Facebook certainly has become an indispensable part of our day to day digital life. It helps us to stay connected with our friends and family. It’s undeniable that most of us are very much addicted to this awesome social network finding it difficult to keep ourselves away from it. Some make it a daily routine to visit Facebook at least once a day even in a busy schedule. But for others Facebook is everything they live and breathe it. Their day might start and end with it. If you are one such fan this article is just for you.

You might find it difficult and annoying to type your username and password each and every time to log in. If you are using a multiple user PC it is certainly not a good option to enable keep me logged in feature. I was certainly finding it irritating so, came up with a small JavaScript Bookmarklet that lets you automatically log in to your Facebook account with one click. All you need to do is visit Facebook.com and click on the bookmark. You will be automatically logged in. I am sure this will save some time for you.

Let’s see how to install this, it just takes few seconds.

Bookmarklet: Auto-Login to Facebook with One Click

← 1. Drag and Drop this Facebook Auto Login bookmark to your browser’s bookmark bar or right click on it and copy the link address, then create a new bookmark and paste the copied link on to Location/URL field.

Note: Preferably give your Bookmark a misleading name for security reasons.

2. Now you need to edit the bookmarklet to change username and password. Change admin@techawakening.org to your email id and change abc@123 to your password. In chrome right click bookmark and select edit, in Firefox right click and select properties. Once modified save it.

3. Test it by going to Facebook.com and click on the bookmark you made. You should be automatically logged in now.

Gmail is one the most widely used web mail service. Google has always been constantly updating its services to provide the best to its user. Gmail does offers you with some stunning feature which other web-mail might not provide but at the same time it does lack some essential features for example the ability to sort email by sender, date etc., Most of us use Gmail for both personally and official purpose. On many occasions official emails tend to have attachments that come along with it. At times we would like to search for emails by entering keywords inside the attached documents. But does Gmail support this feature?

Consider a Situation: You are urgently in search of an important document that came as an attachment in one of your email. But you neither remember the one who sent that email nor the subject or body of the email. All you remember is some sentences within the document. So how will you find the email?

Answer: Doing a search in Gmail will not give any results unless the attachment is a text (.txt) file. But sadly most of the time office related documents are in Microsoft Office format or in PDF format. The answer is to use Attachments.me, which lets you search within documents in Gmail attachments.

How to use Attachments.me to Search inside Gmail Attachments?

1. First install Attachments.me app.

2. Log-in to your Gmail account and authenticate the app by allowing access to your account.

3. Now you will get a greeting email from Attachments.me. Allow few minutes for the service to index attachments in your account.

4. Start off by searching for cat. You will be able to see a new search results section just below the search bar.

To find attachments containing any word or sentence just key in them and hit search, attachments.me will display all the documents with matches.

I tested by searching for a sentence within a DOC and PDF file, the service was able to find them correctly while Gmail was unable to find it.

Save Gmail Attachments to Cloud-Storage Based on Rules

Another amazing feature of this service is it allows you to set rules, based on which your email attachments can be moved to cloud service like Dropbox and Box.

1. Click on the floating attachment icon on the top.
2. Click manage rules and then create rules.
3. Set the rules and destination location. For the first time you need to authorize your Dropbox and Box account.

3. Google will now ask you to authorize the access request. Authorize it by clicking Allow access.

4. Once authentication is completed, RSS feed for your Google Plus profile will be generated. Note down the feed link which will be something like this

5. Now go to ifttt.com and signup, if your already have an account sign in.

6. Visit this ifttt recipe which automates the sharing of Google Plus posts on your Facebook account.

7. Activate both Feed and Facebook channel under Missing ingredients.

8. Once the channel has been authorized and activated, replace the Feed URL with your URL which you noted down on step 4. Now click Create Task button on the bottom.

That’s it. From now on your Google+ feed will be monitored and if there is any change it will be automatically posted to your timeline.

Consider a situation you are away from your computer and in travel waiting for an important email which you need to reply in a timely manner and all you have with you is your mobile-phone. Instead of constantly checking your inbox you can setup SMS alerts which notify you on receiving emails. Recently we saw how to use Google Docs to monitor multiple sites and send free alerts when they are down. In this article we are going to see how to turn Google Docs into Email Notifier to send you free SMS alerts for important and new incoming emails on Gmail.

There are already some ways to achieve this using third-party services or using free SMS gateway by setting up email forwarding. But they do have restrictions and limitations. E.g.: Country based limitations. Sometimes they don’t work at all. Of course privacy is another important concern. I am sure many of us are in need of this SMS alert feature, number of queries raised in various Google forums are a proof for this. So, let’s create our own email notifier service with Google Docs.

Below trick is pretty simple it just takes at the max of 5 minutes to setup. It only uses services provided by Google, no third-party services are involved. Importantly it works in almost all countries, free of cost.

How does it work?

1. Creating a filter condition and linking it to a label in Gmail.

2. Google Docs periodically monitors the label thread for new incoming emails and creates a Google Calendar SMS reminder on receiving it.

3. Google Calendar sends you a SMS alert containing the subject of your message.

So lets see how to set it up. Might look lengthy but it’s very easy.

Get Free SMS Alerts for New and Important Emails on Gmail with Google Docs

1. Setting up Google Calendar to make SMS as default reminder channel

You can follow the instructions on how to configure for Google Calendar for phone notification from our previous article.

2. Creating filter condition and linking to Label in Gmail

• Login to Gmail.
• Click on the Gears icon on the top right and select Settings.
• Go to Labels tab.
• Scroll down and click Create new label.
• Give label name as sendsms and click create. Now label creation is done.
• Now click on filter tab.
• Click Create a new filter.

If you want SMS alerts only for emails from some important person such as your boss. Set the filter condition using ‘from’ field.



If you want SMS alerts for all incoming emails. Set the ‘Has the words’ field with is:inbox



• Click Create filter with this search.
• Now check Apply the label and select sendsms from the drop down. Finally click create filter.

3. Configuring Google Docs To Poll for New Incoming Emails

1. Login to Google Docs.
2. Click here to make copy of the spreadsheet. Click Yes, make a copy.
3. Now select Tools-> Script Editor. Then Resources-> Current script’s triggers.
4. Select click here to add one. Under events select Time-Driven then minutes timer and every minute and save it.
5. Click Authorize and then grant access. Now click close and save the trigger again. That’s it.

So, now on Google Docs will be polling your Gmail Account every minute for new incoming messages through the label you have created and will send a free SMS alerts as and when they arrive.

Facebook recently has been introducing many GUI changes to make the user experience better. Some changes have got a good response from users while few a pretty bad response for example Timeline Feature. One such recent change that Facebook brought was Full Screen Photo viewing. This lets you view photos in fullscreen mode without any sort of distractions. This feature is best put to use when you are viewing a series of photos as your birthday photo collection. If you notice, this feature is not just hiding the address bar and maximizing the window size to give a full screen illusion instead it is an absolute full screen mode without any browser interface as if you are viewing a slideshow or viewing videos in fullscreen mode in your media player.

So, how did Facebook implement this photo viewer feature? You might have also noticed this kind of feature in YouTube where you can view videos in full screen.

Want to implement such feature in your own project or for your client? The answer is to use FullScreen API. This JavaScript API lets you display web contents to be presented using the user’s entire screen hiding all browser user interface and other applications from the screen.

If you want to display HTML elements in fullscreen without any parts of the browser like bookmarks bar, address bar or toolbar visible this is the API you have to use. The implementation is fairly simple and straight forward.

The element that you want to be presented in full-screen mode should make requestFullScreen() method call. You can also use jQuery Fullscreen Plugin to implement this.

Web has shrunk the world. Even personal views of an individual from the remote part of the world can reach worldwide thanks to the internet. Social Networking sites and blogs have made it possible. It does not cost you a penny to start a blog or website, there are many services who offer it for free. Some write in blogs as a hobby while others do it as a professional or a part time job. If you own a website you might be interested in monitoring its availability around the clock and getting notified when your site is not accessible. When you involve yourself totally on it making it your profession,then it becomes even more important to monitor your site constantly.

There are many free website monitoring sites that lets us do this job. But they are only trial version or come with some limitations. For example Pingdom lets you track only one website and offers only 20 SMS alerts for a free account. So why not build your own website monitoring service? Google Docs helps you do this. I recently came across an article in Digital Inspiration where Amit had demonstrated how to use Google Docs to monitor your website and get email alerts for free. So I thought why not extend the script to allow Google Docs to send you free SMS alerts too when your site is down. Also the current script was supporting the ability to monitor only single site, you had to create mutiple copies to track many sites. So I have also updated the script to support monitoring of many sites with a single doc itself.

How to Use Google Docs to Monitor Multiple Sites and Get Free Downtime SMS Alerts

Google Calendar will be aiding Google Docs to send free SMS notification when site is down. Whereas the actual monitoring is done by Google Docs.

• Configuring Google Calendar for Phone Notification

1. Log in to Google Calendar

2. Click on the Gears icon on the top right and select settings.

3. Now click on the Mobile Setup tab.

4. Select Country, enter your Phone number and now click Send Verification Code. Now enter the code you got on your mobile and verify your number. If you don’t receive the code check if your carriers fall under supported mobile providers.

5. Now in Notifications select SMS as your default notification channel and save it.

Now you are done with the Google Calendar configuration part. All that is left is to copy the Google Docs provided below and set the polling frequencies.

• Configuring Google Docs To Monitor your Sites

1. Log in to Google Docs

2. Click here to make copy of the Google Spreadsheet.

3. In F3 to F6 cell you can enter the URL of the sites you want to monitor. Currently supports up to four sites. You can tweak the code to support many more.

4. In cell F8 enter your Email Address into which you want to get alerts. Entering phone number is not required as it will be picked up from Google Calendar.

5. Now select Tools-> Script editor.

6. Select Resources-> Current script’s triggers. Under Run select “isMySiteDown” then in Event select Time-Driven, Minutes timer and Every minute and save it. Now click the Authorize button and then Grant Access. Save the trigger again.

Now on Google Docs will be polling and monitoring all the sites you have entered every minute. You will be getting SMS alert, Email alert when any of the mentioned site is DOWN, the exception/error details will be logged in ‘C’ column and URL will be logged in ‘B’ column helping you identify which site was actually down. Similarly you will be getting alerts once the site which was DOWN is UP again.

Mozilla recently launched Firefox 11 on March 2012. This version included many useful features for web developers like the Style Editor, 3D page inspection of Webpage DOM structure and redesigned HTML5 video controls. Apart from this it included other features like data migration from Chrome and Add-on Sync. One feature that has caught the eyes of many is the capability to view and inspect a site in 3D view. Though I am not sure how practical it will be in debugging layout issue it is certainly stunning and eye catching! This feature seemed to be liked by all sorts of users given the awesomeness of it. This post aims at addressing what to do when you are not able to see the 3D button though you have updated to Firefox 11. This is the button which helps in inspecting a page in a multidimensional view.

Firefox put-forth some places where this feature will come in handy:

1. If your HTML is broken causing layout problems, looking the page in a 3D perspective can help find where you’ve gone wrong.

2. 3D view helps you in sorting out the problem when content isn’t displaying properly because this view lets you zoom out to see elements that are rendering outside the visible area of the page, thus enabling you to track down the problematic content this way.

3. Helps in identifying ways in which you can optimize your layout.

This feature isn’t something new in Firefox it was previously available in the form of Tilt 3D Add-on. Which now has been integrated into Firefox.

How to Enable 3D page inspection feature in Firefox 11

1. To access this feature, first update your Firefox to 11 from Help-> About Firefox and click check for updates.

2.Once updated go to the page you want to see in 3D. Right click and select Inspect Element (Q). Now you will see a breadcrumb bar below with three buttons on the right corner namely 3D, HTML and Style.

3. Now click on the 3D button. You can now use your mouse to zoom in and out or turn around the page. In case you don’t see this inspect button read ahead.

Why 3D inspect button is not visible in your Firefox 11 ?

For getting this feature work. Your video card needs to support WebGL. Do the following

1. First check if WebGl is enabled in Firefox. Type about:config in address bar and press Enter. Then click the I’ll be careful, I promise! button.

2. Type webgl in search. Check if webgl.disabled is set to false. If not double click to toggle its value. Similarly check if webgl.force-enabled is set to true.

3. Now visit Check WebGl Support site. Typically you should see a spinning cube if not you need to update your graphics drivers to enable the 3D inspection button.

4. You download the latest driver from official site of your card manufacturer. To find the manufacturer right click My computer-> Properties-> Hardware -> Device Manager-> Display Adapters. Now expand the tree to see to find what card you are using. Download drivers from the below official sites.

- Intel
- AMD/ATI
- NVIDIA

Select the appropriate card name, download the drivers and install them. If you are not sure of the card series or if it is not available in the list use auto detect and install feature if available which I did in my case for ATI drivers.

5. Once installation is completed, restart your PC. Confirm WebGl support by going to previously mentioned site. Now check if 3D button is enabled for you.

[Update- April 13,2012] If you see spinning cube yet unable to see the 3D Dom inspector, try force enabling by doing the following:

- Go to about:config and set webgl.force-enabled as true.

- Set webgl.msaa-force as true.

- Set layers.acceleration.force-enabled as true.

- Set gfx.direct2d.force-enabled as true

Now restart Firefox and check it. Even then if you don’t find the button you can try manually installing Tilt 3D addon and restart again.

Activate Tilt via Tools-> Web Developer -> Tilt or by pressing Ctrl+Shift+M. Find the below screenshot where button is not available yet I am able to do 3D inspection using Tilt add-on.

In this article we will be seeing various ways to save your browsing history in Firefox and how to restore them back. Wondering what’s the use of doing so? Read ahead. Firefox has been my favorite browser when it comes to browsing the internet. Very stable and crash proof with abilities to handle many open tabs. We come across different sites while we surf the net. Some gets our attention unlike others. It might be very interesting or informational. We tend to bookmark them for later reference. But at times we forget to bookmark it and later finding them again in the ocean of internet might be difficult unless you remember the site address. In times like this browsing history can be our savior with which we can easily track down by filtering with keywords and date. If you have a tendency to clear your histories often it is better to save them on to a file.

How to Backup and Restore Browsing history in Firefox:

1. History Export Add-on: This add-on lets you export your Web history in variety of formats including plain text, XML, HTML and JSON. You can access it from History -> History Export. Set the preferences specifying the format and location to be saved and then click Export. Though it does not provide option to directly restore data onto history instead you can import it onto bookmarks and access it from there. So preferably export in JSON or HTML format so that you can import it via Import and Backup option in Library window.

2. MozBackup: This utility lets you backup your entire Firefox profile from history, to bookmarks, extensions and more. It is compatible with other applications like Thunderbird, Sunbird, SeaMonkey, Songbird, Netscape, Wyzo and more! This tool does provide the option to directly restore the history data unlike the above one.

3. Backup Places.sqlite: If you were wondering where does Firefox save browsing history? Places.sqlite is the file where it saves details like bookmarks, favorite icons and browsing history. So you can directly take a copy of this file for later use. To restore the history simply copy, paste the file.

In this article we are going to see a solution to one of the annoying errors of Pinterest. In order to pin an article you need toenter the URL and then click Find Images. Pinterest grabs hold of some images available on the page from which you can select the one you like and then add a description and post it on your boards. But sometimes you end up getting this error “We Couldn’t Find Any Images:No Usable Images Found“. It really does frustrate you because even though the page has many to be shown the Pinterest does not seem to pick up any of the image but instead shows this irritating error message, preventing you from pining! I am not sure if this is some sort of a bug but lets see how to overcome this.

1. Whenever you come across this error the simplest alternative to overcome this is to use “Pin It” bookmarklet.

Now visit the page for which you got the error message and click on the Bookmarklet. Voila! You get all the images in the page and you can select the one you want and pin it as usual.

2. If even the above method does not work you can always manually upload the pin. Download any pic you want from the page. Click Upload a Pin and select the pic you downloaded then add description and pin it.

Note: Most of the time I got the problem resolved with first method.
