Flash for Android Based Phones

Google announced that it is working with Adobe to roll out Flash 10.1 onto its Android devices. This is a strategic move, as Apple’s iPhone and the recently released iPad do not support Flash capabilities. This has led to some speculation as to whether or not Adobe and Apple are distancing themselves from each other for some reason, but needless to say Android owners seem to be coming out on top in all of this. Even Microsoft’s 7 Series devices will not support Flash in their first iteration. Those seeking to find software from open source or homemade application are at risk of violating end-user agreements with Apple.

During the demonstration at the GSM World conference, Eric Tsen, Product Manager for Google, assured the attending audience that this was not Flash-lite or some home-brewed version of Flash, but rather the full version of the software developed by Adobe to take advantage of the graphic processing abilities native to Android devices. This was shown by playing a flash-based movie trailer on an Android mobile phone.

This is a huge boon for Google. According to a recent report by comScore Media Metrix, over 70% of videos viewed on web sites are Flash-based, and this number is growing. With Adobe Flash installed on Android devices, this would allow Google to essentially corner the ability to watch web-based videos until Apple and Microsoft start to listen to their customers’ wants and needs. Being able to take full advantage of the processing power and integrated graphics rendering capabilities on Android hand held devices is something that Google customers are looking forward to, as Google itself is excited to have in its partnership with Adobe to keep its edge in the field of versatile mobile devices.

Mobile Digital TV

A free local mobile TV service featured on several new devices made its appearance at the CES Conference last month. There are currently 30 broadcasters in the US carrying free digital mobile television signals.

As part of a trial, between 200 and 300 people in Washington, D.C., will be carrying Samsung cell phones with Sprint service that includes free mobile digital television in the first quarter of 2010. This phone has an added telescoping antenna for TV reception and a screen with organic light-emitting diodes.

A new LG DVD player has an antenna connected to it that will carry free live digital television. You will be able to purchase it for $249.00 once it hits store shelves.

The standard was adopted in October of 2009 and test broadcasting is currently happening in several different markets. Backers of the technology are saying there are advantages to this service over previous streaming services on other devices.

AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless use a subscription-based service called FLO TV that delivers live broadcasts from several cable channels including MTV, ESPN, and Comedy Central. Subscriptions start as low as $15.00 a month.

Mobile DTV is different from FLO TV in that it provides local channels with traffic, weather, and sports content at no cost to the consumer. A major goal of the Washington, D.C. consumer trial is to figure out how much people are willing to spend on a device that carries TV service.

One advantage to mobile digital television is that it originates with local broadcasters, thus making the channels free to watch on your own personal device. An availability of local news could also give the mobile TV service industry a leg-up with its competitors when it becomes available to more markets later this year. CBS, NBC, PBS, Ion, and Fox have already started broadcasting on mobile devices late last summer.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Nintendo’s latest Super Mario installment is here and makes a delicious mixed drink of old school and new. Mario can also perform the ground pound and many types of special jumps, as well as advanced movement and combat techniques. Of course, there are many secrets to unfold in the game to add to Mario’s madcap arsenal. But of course, one of the biggest features to improve the game is the multiplayer.

Up to four can play on screen at once and quadruple the mayhem and koopa stomping fun. Friends can play through the campaign together or face off in the competitive games. Players can choose to play the story mode or Mario vs. Luigi and Mini games.

In the campaign there are 9 worlds to explore, jam-packed with coins to collect and secrets to find, and with Princess Peach waiting for her rescuers at the end. Players can choose out of Mario, his brother Luigi, and two Toad heroes (all with equal abilities) as playable characters to explore these worlds. Many of the classic boss fights have made a return, like the memorable Koopa children. As an added bonus, Nintendo has added a feature dubbed the Super Guide. This guide will aid young or new player by showing the computer’s play through of a level, effectively showing the player ways to succeed. But if the campaign doesn’t quench that multiplayer thirst, the competitive games will.

Versus mode offers several games, adding a touch of chaos to the mix. Each game tracks everything you do in a race to outdo your friends. When this competition is coupled with the campaign in free mode, things get wild. Players race and battle across the screen for kills and coins until the bitter end of each level. The competitive aspect of this installment has great potential for fun and hilarity.

myFord Driver Interface

Ford has just announced the release of the myFord Touch Driver Interface for some of its newer cars. In 2012, it will come with the Ford Focus. This system has a touch screen device where you can listen to Pandora radio and you can also use Twitter. The system will interact with your mobile device that you can have sitting in the car beside you via bluetooth.

You can tell the system using your voice which stations you would like to play and tell them if you are liking that particular radio station. The system will play songs that you like depending on what you tell the system. There is a good voice recognition system available. There is a touch screen on board where you can control all of the different options and you can even change the temperature of the interior of the car. Future Technology

According to Steve Wozniak in a recent interview, the technology world is on the verge of some fairly major changes, exciting changes.

In the area of memory and chip size, Wozniak pointed to the chips used in cameras and talked about using them in other ways, inside of computers on cards.
