A small two year old start-up, Carveniche has received funding of Rs. 1 Crore from Venture funding group Mumbai Angels . The Bangalore-based education technology company offers content-based mass-education focused products and services & utilizes Cloud-based technology with an aim for delivery of content throughout the country. Though the amount of funding may appear small in comparison to what we are used to hear , the company plans to use the fund infusion judiciously, says Avneet, co-founder and president (business strategy & operations) of Carveniche, “ The funding will be primarily used for expanding the sales team as we are looking to enter the North Indian market soon. In addition, we will utilize it for R&D, product expansion, etc. ” We feel, companies still have to go a long way before seamless education through electronic media becomes a reality. With Tablets like Aakash though selling like hotcakes , the user-experience may not be top notch as some other devices offer . Hence, unless India is able to bring down the hardware costs, such endeavors will be limited to schools, colleges & other educational institutions. Education, as a field offers unlimited potential . Further the newly developed Cloud computing has offered remote delivery of content which was hereto simply impossible. Recently, many companies have attempted various delivery techniques including mobiles to get the educational content to the masses. Why the sudden spurt of interest in Bangalore? Mumbai-Angles had recently shown interest in Bangalore based tech companies with funding in Edusoft . Anil Joshi of Mumbai Angels may have the answer, “ Bangalore is contributing a lot to the start-up ecosystem and a hub of investors in the city was really needed at this time .” Looking For A Social Media Agency?? - Contact WATConsult - India's Leading Social Media Agency

Google announced today that another of their products is getting a Google+ integration. Google Voice, the company’s solution for voice calls via the Internet is getting the Circles functionality from Google+. They posted in their official blog that this feature will be rolled out today. Google Voice is still not available in India but may do so soon. The good thing about Google Voice is that for a fee of $20 you can port your existing mobile number to the service. Imagine if this came to India! All the Telecom companies would be in for a huge challenge. This integration signifies Google’s long term strategy with Google+. In this sense, Google+ is much more of unifying social layer for all Google products under one umbrella. On the topic of this particular integration, Googler Tom Ford says, “T o help make it even easier for you to organize your contacts, today we’re adding Google+ Circles to Google Voice. Circles give you more control over how you manage your callers; for example, calls from your ‘Creepers’ circle can be sent straight to Voicemail, only your ‘College Buddies’ circle will hear you rap your voicemail greeting, or you can set your ‘Family’ circle to only ring your mobile phone .” Other Google+ integration features include Youtube , Search plus your world , Reader and Blogger . There has been some backlash to ‘Search, plus your world’ from advocates of the free web because filtering of search in relation to Google+ contact will give unfair competitive advantage to Google products. One thing is certain. Google+ will play a big role in the coming months as far as Google services are concerned. If you have been using Google products lately, you will have noticed that they are even going to change their privacy policies and unify them into one standard policy. What do you think of these upcoming changes?
Tata Docomo announces its new music discovery platform “ Grab a Song “ for all its GSM and CDMA users with a catalogue of more than 400,000 songs available in 20 languages. Tata Docomo is an unified telecom brand under Tata Teleservices Ltd. and it wants to extend its portfolio to better services. ‘Grab a Song’ is an initiative to cater to the humungous music fans in India and they can also use the service to set what is known as “Call me” tune. AP Sriram, the COO of Tata Teleservices Ltd exclaimed on this, “ This new innovative service caters to the increasing consumption of music and is aimed at cutting across geographical and socio-economic boundaries by providing easy access and downloads. This initiative is in keeping with TTL ’s stated objective of providing a best-in-class and ground-breaking telecom experience to its customers, in this case, providing them easy access to the country’s best music in 20 different languages .” Grab a Song works in an interesting way. The usage is easy and any Tata Docomo user just needs to make a call to 57878 and then hold the phone near to the song source say a laptop, TV or radio or any other. The voice recognition software on the other end will detect from this the availability of the song in the Tata Docomo “Call Me Tune” database at the back end. Once the identification is complete, the customer will recieve a confirmation SMS ensuring activation and the song details. This service has a subscrition charge of Rs 30 per month for both GSM and CDMA users and songs can be downloaded at Rs 15 for 90 days on GSM and Rs 10 for 30 days on CDMA. Grab a Song comes with a gamut of options like customers can discover new songs or even add a song to their personal playlists at 57878. They can set any song as Call Me Tunes and Welcome Tunes. Last year Tata Docomo was in its full form advertising itself on many channels. For example: they started advertising on Twitter , they also brought out location based service & breaking news service for 2G and 3G customers , affiliating with SwanBay mobile T.V they started providing video streaming service , also they also tied-up with VoiceTap and brought out ‘Tutor on Mobile’ service. While Indian startups are all set to rev up the music scene with social music applications like Gaana and Saavn , Tata tries to lay its hands on mobile users.
A panel headed by Nandan Nilekani, has suggested to make any payments above Rs. 1000 be made or received electronically. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) chairman feels this move should be really helpful in cutting down the amount of money siphoned of as graft or kick-backs. The panel is of the opinion that this alteration will boost transparency & increase accountability. At present Govt. hands out subsidy & benefits to the tune of Rs. 3.5 Lakh Crores. This amount to almost 3.5% our National Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Circumstantial evidence shows that large sums of these monies go missing because of pilferage or leakages in the system. The panel’s suggestion to set up a network of 10 lakh interoperable micro-ATMs which will help moving the funds electronically should prevent such blatant stealing from National treasury. The micro-ATMs will be jointly used by business people & Government Authorities to transfer & receive money. To support the genuineness of the transaction Aadhar Identification cards will be used as “ Financial Address ”. These small ATMs will be evenly distributed across villages. Reassuringly, the recommendations have been accepted ‘In-Principle’ by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. He further confirmed that necessary steps would be taken to implement the recommendations of the report. The implementation of making all payments to Govt. & receiving them in electronic form may be an uphill task to begin with . However, it is certainly a step in the right direction, especially when companies sometime have to down shutters owing to scams. Surprisingly, the banks will earn through this system as the panel has recommended a transaction fee of Rs. 20 or 3.14% (whichever is lower) for every transaction. Mobile commerce was to make a comeback , but combination of Mobile number linkage with Aadhar & Govt. e-payment gateways , will surely pave a new way for Banking for Front-line development & grass-root workers. We sure hope this is implemented. What are your views? Looking For A Social Media Agency?? - Contact WATConsult - India's Leading Social Media Agency

Airtel has expanded its mobile wallet venture ‘Airtel Money’ to 300 Cities across India. Airtel has been one of the pioneers of m-wallets in India & has worked relentlessly since its pilot launch in Delhi & NCR last year. Airtel Money claims to be an easiest to operate Mobile Payments system that enables payments across a wide range of services like Utility bills, mobile & DTH recharges etc. Airtel Money works on the simple mechanism of Load & Use . Airtel subscribers who wish to avail the service have to fist open an “Account” by either self-registering through the mobile or visiting Airtel Galleries or even online at AirtelMoney.in . Once that is done successfully, user need to load the m-wallet with money from either online Bank Transaction or visiting Airtel galleries. While this appears to be a great initiative with ability to pay at over 7000 merchant outlets & cashless transactions and all, we wonder how effective is the method in today’s world where Debit Cards & Credit Cards are so very commonly accessible. Nokia too, introduced a similar initiative last year. Having said that, we do see a change for better in the remote corners of India, where mobiles have already reached, but banks have yet to place ATMs. We had predicted a revival of payments through mobiles, but the field has yet to see wide adoption. Once this method receives a thumbs-up from the common man, the services should see an upswing in regular use. Speaking of adoption, even Vodafone has yet to release an update on it ‘ m-paisa ’. The government too seems supportive of this method, having lifted the Rs. 50,000 cap as a New year’s gift!. For Airtel users, presently there are two options; Express account or Power account . The Express account has a daily spending limit of Rs.10,000 and is applicable to utility and recharge bills, while Power account has daily spending limit of Rs. 50,000 and can be used for utility and recharge bills and also merchant outlets, online shops and transfers.
