Windows 8 will Boot Faster

Windows 8 boots so fast, users will likely not have time to trigger the boot menu before the PC boots, Microsoft claims.

In a blog post this week, Chris Clark, a program manager on the Windows User Experience team, again claimed that Windows 8 will boot in less than 7 seconds on a PC equipped with a sold-state drive.

In older PCs, users have had plenty of time to hit the F2 or the F8 key and trigger a boot menu before the machine POSTs, and could use that menu to run diagnostic tools and boot from alternate devices. With Windows 8, that “window” to push the F8 key is less than 200 ms, Clark wrote, fast enough that even a gamer might be hard pressed to hit the correct keystroke in time.

Instead, Microsoft had to come up with some alternative methods of getting to the boot menu.

In Windows 8, users will automatically be taken to the boot menu in the case where Windows can’t boot – even in situations where Windows thinks it can, such as in the case of a faulty display driver. In that case, the boot options menu is presented.

Users can also manually access the boot options. The primary method of doing so, Clark explained, is from the Advanced startup on the General tab of PC settings. Users can get to PC settings from the Settings charm, or by searching from the Start screen using specific search terms, such as boot, startup, safe mode, firmware, BIOS, or several others, he wrote.

Probably the most common way of reaching the boot options menu, however, will be clicking and holding the SHIFT key while choosing the restart option, in much the same say that sleep and hibernate options can be selected under older Windows PCs.

“The reason that we added this Shift+Restart option to the shutdown menu was because the boot options need to be available even when no one has signed in to the PC,” Clark wrote. “In the old hardware model that allowed keystrokes in boot, anyone with physical access to the PC could press a key to interrupt boot and use the available boot options. To preserve those scenarios, we needed a way for someone who hasn’t signed in (but is still physically using the PC) to use the boot options menu.

Microsoft also added a command-line option: “Shutdown.exe /r /o”, where the “/o” flag will load the options menu.

How to delete all messages on Facebook

Facebook has integrated system to send and receive messages from other Facebook friends. We have already seen easy way to filter Facebook messagesamong: unread, archived, email only and spam. By default, if you click X cross sign next to messages, it is not deleted – instead that messages is archived. Are you trying to figure out way to delete messages in your Facebook account?

Delete & remove Facebook messages one by one

At first, it appears – there is no way to delete messages. However, you can delete specific messages one by one using following procedure.

1. After Facebook login, click on Messages option on left sidebar. Now you should see list of messages that you have received over period of time. Click on specific message that you want to delete.

2. This will open complete message conversation. Now click on Actions button and then click Delete Messages option. You should see pop-up to delete all or delete selected messages.

Similarly, you can open other messages and delete them as per requirement. Over a period of time lot of messages accumulate, you can always delete them for cleaner messages section of your Facebook account.
Wipe & delete all Facebook messages in one go

By default, you need to open single message and then delete it. Facebook does not provide ‘Delete all’ button to wipe delete all messages in your account in single click. You can add this feature to your Facebook account by using Facebook Fast Delete Messages Chrome extension.

1. Open Google Chrome browser and download Facebook Fast Delete Messagesextension. Once this extension is installated, open and login into your Facebook account.

2. Goto to messages section and you should see new “Delete All’ button next to “New Message” button. Click Delete All button to delete and remove all messages in your Facebook account in single click.

The Google has announced some new additions in gmail to make easy integration with Google+.

Among this additions is that you can see you google circles at the top of the inbox which gives you a quick access to your contacts.

Quick access to contact details When you search for an e-mail address [in Gmail], the search results will now show you contact details in addition to that person's [Google] profile photo [if he or she has one] and the e-mails sent from and to them. From here, you can start a chat, call their phone and more. Plus, if your contacts have a Google+ profile, this information will stay up to date automatically. You can get to these same results in a variety of ways including from the people widget, contacts, and the chat list search menu.
Improved circle integration and circle search In addition to adding contact details to search results, we've made some improvements to the [Google+] circles integration announced in December. When you select a circle, you'll now see profile photos of people in that circle at the top right of the page. Plus, when you click on these images you'll be taken directly to search results with contact details.
Circles are also now supported in search and filters. Find messages from a specific circle by typing circle:[circle name] in the search box. You can also find mail from any of your circled contacts by searching with has:circle. You can refine your search even further with other criteria and create filters based on circles. This means you can now view all the unread e-mails from your "Friends" circle or automatically star every message that comes from your "VIP" circle.

Circles are now supported in Gmail search box. Typing circle:friends will show your friends above the inbox and so circle:Your circle name to display the specified contacts list above inbox.

Mark Zukerberg Changes His Relationship Status To Married

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg updated his status to “married” on Saturday.

Zuckerberg and 27-year-old Priscilla Chan tied the knot at a small ceremony at his Palo Alto, Calif., home, capping a busy week for the couple, according to a guest authorized to speak for the couple. The person spoke only on the condition of anonymity.

Zuckerberg took his company public in one of the most anticipated stock offerings in Wall Street history Friday. And Chan graduated from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, on Monday, the same day Zuckerberg turned 28, the person said.

The couple met at Harvard and have been together for more than nine years, the person said.

Zuckerberg designed the ring featuring “a very simple ruby,” according to the person.

The ceremony took place in Zuckerberg’s backyard before fewer than 100 guests, including Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg.

The guests all thought they were coming to celebrate Chan’s graduation but were told after they arrived that the event was in fact a wedding.

“Everybody was shocked,” the guest said.

Rather than his trademark hoodie, Zuckerberg wore a suit for the ceremony, while his bride wore a traditional wedding dress.

Food was served family-style and included dishes from the couple’s favorite Palo Alto sushi restaurant. The two had been planning the marriage for months but were waiting until Chan had graduated to hold the wedding, the guest said.

The timing wasn’t tied to the IPO, since the date the company planned to go public was a “moving target,” the guest said.

Even after the IPO, Zuckerberg remains Facebook’s single largest shareholder, with 503.6 million shares. And he controls the company with 56 percent of its voting stock.

The site, which was born in a dorm room eight years ago, has grown into a worldwide network of almost a billion people.

Zuckerberg founded Facebook at Harvard in 2004.

He was selected as Time’s Person of the Year in 2010, at age 26.

Zuckerberg grew up in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.

Chrome Becomes Second Most Used Browser In India

Google’s browser has just celebrated its third birthday, and here comes a birthday gift from India! Chrome has surpassed Internet Explorer in India, and now it is the second most popular browser in the country with 31.75% browser market share.

According to the report of StatCounter.com, Firefox is the most popular browser in India with 32.97% market share. IE and Chrome have 31.33% & 31.75% users respectively.

If we consider individual browser versions, Chrome 13 is the most popular browser version in India with 21.28% usage share. This should be noted here that Chrome updates automatically, and it is considered as the most important feature of Chrome.

I believe that there are three main reasons behind this success: Advertisements, promotion through other Google services and Support for Windows XP (XP is not supported by IE9+). In past few months, Google has promoted Chrome specially on TV channels. TV is the most effective medium in India, and this promotion may be a reason behind Chrome’s increasing user base. PC 'MK802' A Micro Pc Which Runs Android And Linux

Here comes a tiny PC, the MK802 - a USB-sized device, which runs both Android 4.0 and Linux, and has been priced at $74.

A Chinese company by the name of Rikomagic has begun shipping this $74 micro PC, which is said to have similar form factor as the recently released Raspberry Pi. The device features a 1.5GHz AllWinner A10 Cortex A8 ARM processor, 512MB of DDR3 high-capacity memory and WiFi connectivity.

Powered by a MALI400 graphics processing unit, the device has 4GB Flash storage, a microSD slot, and two USB ports - one full-sized and one micro, as reported by PC World.

The video output is via 1080p HDMI. But an HDMI cable needs to be added separately. Also, it is said that users can tap either an Android virtual keyboard or add a wireless mouse and keyboard.

Reportedly, users will have to rely on third party sources for apps as Google's Play store is not included.

Moreover, the best thing is that users can run Ubuntu, Debian, or another Linux distribution of their choice via microSD card.

This micro PC is more expensive than the $35 Raspberry Pi, but on the other hand it is also cheaper than the $199 Cotton Candy.

How to Optimize The CPU In HTC One X

If you’re an Android user who loves to root your phone, you’re probably well versed on the benefits of apps that allow you to control your phone’s CPU. From over and under clocking, to setting CPU governors, apps such as SetCPU give you ultimate control over the performance and power saving of your device. Now the good folks over at XDA-Developers have developed a similar app for the quad-core HTC One X.

CoreControl, created by XDA member Meltus, allows you to control how many cores in the HTC One X are active at time. Root access is of course a requirement, and the app will simply force close on an unrooted device. The app is quite useful if you aren’t getting the battery life you need, or your quad-core beast starts running a bit hot.

Features:

As you can see in the screenshot, CoreControl gives you many options beyond just how many cores are running. Similar to SetCPU, you can set different profiles, and each profile allows you to set how many cores will run based on two factors. First, you can set a profile that will change how many cores are running based on battery level. Alternatively, you can set another profile to set the amount of running cores based on battery temperature. Another nice feature allows you to set CoreControl to start every time your phone boots so you don’t have to start it manually.

CoreControl is being constantly updated, and more features are soon to be added. Upcoming features will include screen-off and charging profiles. More colors indicating battery temperature will also be added; it currently only displays in green and red. The layout is also expected to be tweaked.

Currently the app is somewhat buggy, which is understandable considering it’s very new in development. Fortunately the bugs rarely hinder the basic function of controlling the cores. The developer has only seen one instance when profiles were set but reverted to default settings. To be sure, Meltus recommends installing an app called TegraStats to monitor active cores.

Go Backup V 1.0 Beta 1 By Dev Team

GO Dev team has released first beta of GO Backup for Android which backs up contacts, SMSs, Go Launcher settings & all other apps. Off course it requires root access (?) to backup apps/app data. Backing up apps is particularly useful for people like me who often flash & try new ROMs. Titanium Backup was a go to app for this purpose previously, but the interface of GO backup is just too simple. If you had used Titanium Backup, you would know how painful it is to restore all the apps, you have to go through Android install app prompt for each of the app. But in GO Backup, you click only on one button “Restore” and it takes care of the rest!

How To Backup Facebook Tagged Photos To Dropbox

We have complete control of photos which we upload on Facebook. But not on photos which are uploaded/tagged by others. Your friend may choose to delete your photo anytime without your knowledge. It is a good idea to have your own backup of photos of yours which are tagged by others.

We will achieve our desired task by using ifttt.com (If This Then That), which automates the whole process. If you don’t have a Dropbox account already, go signup for a free account before proceeding. So let’s get started:

Signup at ifttt.com if you haven’t already
Goto http://ifttt.com/channels and activate Facebook & Dropbox so that ifttt will have permissions to access your accounts.
Goto this recipe http://ifttt.com/recipes/1760
Change your Dropbox folder path if you wish to & click on “Create Task“. Don’t change anything in File URL.

And you are done, next time when someone tags you, that picture gets automatically uploaded to your Dropbox. If you have Dropbox desktop client installed, all these pictures will automatically appear inside your Dropbox folder. One limitation of this ifttt task is that it works only for photos which will be tagged from now on, it won’t backup photos which were tagged before creating this task.

HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT PROBLEMS WHILE INSTALLING MAGENTO IN LOCALHOST

I have to agree that most of us face a lot of issues while installing the latest version ofMagento 1.4.2.0 in localhost. The version was released on December 8, 2010. So I thought of writing an article that would sort out the basic issues one would face during magento installation. I am not much familiar with magento and this is my first experience trying it.

Invalid Base url ( Please enter a valid URL. Protocol is required (http://, https:// or ftp://):

You will face this error usually when the base url entered is like http://localhost/…./, you can easily resolve this issue either by simply replacing localhost with “127.0.0.1″. So your url goes like this

http://127.0.0.1/magento/

or else you can force magento to accept your localhost as url by modifying thevalidation.js file which is present in the magento installation directory atjs\prototype\validation.js (note I don’t recommend doing this for any live servers, just for development and testing purpose).

If you believe or not, Magento will create about 318 tables in your database. I was astonished becoz I used to work with very light content management systems like wordpress etc and this is the first time I am trying a powerful e-commerce site like Magento which has hell lot of tables.

This is the reason why many of us end up with an error “Maximum Execution time exceed error.” The default maximum time execution limit for php which we have configured is not enough to posses such a powerful system.

So if you are using a distribution system like xampp or lamp, you can simply find the php folder and configure the php.ini file

Usually php.ini file can be found in c:\xampp\php\php.ini

find two values which usually present at line 440 and 450. Change the default value to either 0 or 3600


max_execution_time = 3600
max_input_time = 3600.

assigning value as zero (0) would give it infinite time for execution.

These are the common issues one face during the installation of latest version ofMagento 1.4.2.0.

Unable to login after Magento installation in localhost:

After the installation, I faced another problem. It wont allow you to login if you have used localhost as your base url instead of 127.0.0.1. This is because it wont accept cookies from localhost. You can resolve it by commenting out unwanted variables in session cookies in Varien.php. This file can be found in app/code/core/Mage/Core/Model/Session/Abstract/

go to line 78 (varies based on versions) and you will find the array as shown below

How to Root Your AT&T HTC One X

Credit goes to XDA Developers member kennethpenn, who has managed to provide a simple and 1-click root method for HTC One X. This will root your One X, install Busybox, and install the SuperSU application for rights management. It won’t unlock the device bootloader. Carefully follow the below instructions to proceed with rooting –

1. Download and install the HTC mobile phone drivers on your Windows system.

2. Download the root.zip file. (Mirror 1 | Mirror 2)

3. Then Extract root.zip into a directory on your computer.

4. Plug your HTC One X into your computer via USB. It’s recommended to plug your device’s USB cable into the back of your computer if using a desktop PC.

5. Enable USB Debugging on your HTC One X. This can be done from Settings > Developer Options > check USB debugging option.

6. Double click root.bat to run the script. (On Windows)

Linux users: double click root-linux.sh.
Mac users: double click root-mac.sh.

7. That’s it. Your device will reboot a number of times and then it should eventually have full root access. Enjoy!

Reset Firefox To Fix Some Problems

Firefox after using for a while it slows down or crashes, which gives a lot of irritation to the people. And we install some unwanted toolbars when we install any softwares which makes the firefox a bit slow while using it. This is a great addition to Firefox as users would now be able to fix most issues simply by resetting and without requiring any type of manual troubleshooting.

Resetting doesn’t hard reset the browser, it works by creating a new profile folder while preserving your Bookmarks, Browsing history, Passwords, Cookies, and form auto-fill information. To make the restoration seamless and effective, Firefox does not saves your extensions/ add-ons, themes, open tabs/windows, tab groups, download history, and more.
To reset Firefox to its default configuration, click on the Firefox button located at top-left corner, open the Help sub-menu and select ‘Troubleshooting Information’. Then click on the ‘Reset Firefox’ button, a confirmation window will appear, tap to continue. Upon resetting, Firefox will list the information imported. Click Finish to open!

Samsung SIII To Get More Than 9-Million Pre Orders.

Samsung Galaxy SIII, the device recently launched in London with a worldwide announcement of features, has received over 9 million pre-orders worldwide according to the Korea Economic Daily. If these numbers are to be believed, then Samsung is almost close to the half of the 20 million SIIs they sold overall till FEB 2012.

According to a separate report by Reuters, the company’s factories are producing 5 million units monthly, so it does not seem like stocks should be an issue once the device does get launched.

HTC One XT launches on China Mobile

Another addition to the HTC One family has just been released into the wild. The HTC One XT makes its debut in China today. The latest Android powered handset is essentially a HTC One X (the international version, not the AT&T varient) that is customized for its carrier.

The HTC One XT sports the same quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor that’s found inside the One X. The only real change is that the HSPA+ connectivity is dropped in favor of support for China Mobile’s 3G.

Perhaps where the HTC One XT packs the hardest punch is in the wallet. This handset costs 5,688 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately $899 in the U.S. It’s not clear how many of China Mobile’s over 650 million subscribers will be willing to pony up for HTC’s quad-core goodness, but it is one of only a few high-end, non-Chinese brand options that also supports China Mobile’s 3G.

HTC and SAMSUNG both are leading brands of mobiles. Both are manufacturing awesome smart phones.
HTC used to get their phone with windows OS and SAMSUNG's most phones used to have bada O. Now these manufactures have a lot of smart phones running android and windows OS.

Every young teenager now-a-days wants to buy a smart phone. Because these phone make your life easy offering you with awesome applications, navigation, camera, music, HD video playback, and many other services. But the question arises when you go to buy a smart phone. Which one to buy because all phones look good with big screens awesome colourful displays.

Build Quality:

Build quality of htc devices is way better than that of samsung devices..htc devices have metal and strong plastic in them while the samsungdevices are generally plasticky.

Looks:

Free Calls And SMS World Wide With Viber (Android, iOS, Windows, Blackberry)

Some Questions Can’t Be Answered by Google

Want to know the current time in London, or how much is 10 pounds in grams? Google can directly answer some of these common questions without requiring you to sift through pages and pages of links.

However, it is not the only tool that offers instant answers. Wolfram Alpha, a search engine developed by Stephen Wolfram, can solve a much wider array of problems and unlike Google, it doesn’t require to type queries in any particular syntax. Here are some examples:

1. Your Location

A query like “where am i” will reveal your IP address and your current geographic location. Alternate queries that will get the same information about your computer include “who am i” and “what is my ip.”

2. Date and Time

You would normally need an Excel spreadsheet and may have to learn some formulas to perform basic calculations involving date and time but not with Wolfram Alpha. The tool lets you work with dates using natural English (similar to Outlook Calendar).

If you are to calculate the number of days before your next holiday, use “how many days until <holiday name>”. You can subtract dates like regular numbers or compute new dates with natural phrases like “second saturday of next month” or “now + 10 days.”

3. Food

Wolfram Alpha can instantly answer most of your food and nutrition related questions like how many calories are present in a bottle of Coke? Which is healthier – the french fries served at Burger King or the ones at McDonald’s?

4. Time Zones

You know that a query like “time in <city>” will display the current time of that city. This works for most search engines but Wolfram has an additional feature that works in reverse.

You can specify the time of any city and it will convert that time into your local timezone. This should be handy when a client suggests a meeting time using his timezone and you have to quickly figure out if that time works out for you.

5. Astronomy

If you are a fan of Astronomy, you’ll absolutely love Wolfram Alpha and it can compute the position of stars and planets for any given day.

The tool can tell you the exact dates for astronomical events like when the next solar eclipse will take place while a specific query like “solar eclipse in new york” will show you the date for the next eclipse that will be visible from New York.

6. Finance

Want to know the number of people who are working for a particular company. Wolfram Alpha can get this information and more using simple queries like “market cap of Apple” or “revenue of Google.” You may also use the tool to query past stock prices and indices.

7. Colors

What do you get when you pour some red paint in a bucket of yellow paint? What’s the HTML and RGB equivalent of Purple?

8. Comparisons

Wolfram|Alpha is an excellent tool for performing comparisons and it presents results in a neat table making it easy for you to interpret the data.

You may compare almost anything and everything from airports, universities, size of popular structures (Statue of Liberty vs Eiffel Tower), quantities (10 lb vs 12 kg), stock quotes, sales tax rates in various cities, sports teams, and even standard paper sizes.

9. Weather

Most search engines offer weather forecast for the next 7 or 10 days but with Wolfram Alpha, you can get historic weather conditions of a city as well for any given date.

And unlike Google which will only give you sunrise and sunset times for the next day, Wolfram Alpha can compute that information for any past and future date.

10. Understand Relations

This is one of my favorites. Put it any complex family relationship – like your mother’s sister’s son’s wife’s father – and Wolfram will map it into a genealogical tree making it easier for you make sense of that relation.

Did you ever gone through a QR code? What is a QR code? QR code(Quick Response Code) is a trademark for a type for a type of matrix barcode.
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of a QR Code? A confusing maze of black rectangular patterns arranged on a white background?

True, most QR Codes are available in black and white but they don’t have to be that way.

There’s an excellent online QR generator at qrhacker.com that lets you create colorful QR codes and what makes this tool different is that it provides you can option to embed photographs and logo images to your QR codes. You can even edit the colors of individual pixels that form the code.

To give you an example, here’s a QR code made using a picture of Zuckerberg and if you scan the code with an app on your phone, say Google Goggles, it should take you to Facebook.

Every QR code has a unique URL for easy sharing or you can download the image locally in PNG or PDF.

How To Create Website Shortcut On Your Desktop

There can be few websites, few applications or nay other utility which you might use again and again while working on your system. Far any application you can go for creating their shortcuts by going to their context menu and then select the option under ‘Send To’, after creating the shortcuts for your application you can also put them on the taskbar toolbar as your taskbar shortcuts. But you might now have these options for a particular website like Facebook or GMail which you keep on visiting most of the times throughout the day.

The best which you can think of is creating the bookmarks in your browser, but I will be helping you with a tutorial with the help of which you will be easily able to create the shortcuts of the website son your desktop and can add them on your taskbar. Now before proceeding further I would suggest you that you should only create the desktop shortcuts for the website which visit most of the times, as if you started to create the shortcuts for which visit most of the times, as if you started to create the shortcuts for all the websites then it will make your desktop overpopulated and then this tutorial will not do any benefit.

Please follow the steps mentioned below. Go the desktop and then right click to reach the context menu of the desktop, click the shortcut option highlighted in the screenshot.

You will see a window as mentioned in the screenshot below. Now enter the link of the website which you to visit often and then click the next button.

Now you are supposed to give a name to the shortcuts icon. Here I have mentioned the link to Facebook, so I will put the name as Facebook.
