For those that do not know we were at Brazil Softex to what was in store for us (South Africa) from the Brazilians in the coming years and in general. So for those that do not know the event was here to showcase Brazilian culture to South Africa but more so we went to see the seminar on their take on software exchange between South Africa and Brazil.

So on Friday 15th June we (from Technorant) were at the Brazilian Sensational Experience but more importantly the (2 hour) seminar which was regarding technology opportunities between South Africa and Brazil. Probably one of the underlying factors was how South African companies can help companies from Brazil to break into the English speaking markets by being an intermediary and vice versa.

One of the more other important topics was the Digital Standard which is being introduced/pushed into the S.A market. The benefits which were mentioned are numerous ranging from Government Services to education not leaving out the clearer signal (obviously). It was said that every province should have 4 channels which are for the government to use which might work in S.A but how well I am not sure. The estimated timeline for the project if they started now would be done around 2020. When you look at the Brazilians who already have the standard in place but completely removing analogue from the picture will only happen by 2015. As great an idea as it is the costs are a lot and for a country plagued with corruption I wonder if the project will be completed.

Moving on, the other interesting part of the seminar was the talk on Open Source software. So it seems that a company in Brazil has developed a piece of Open source software for the government to implement in their public transport industry. The software is fairly simple (ensuring or at the least hoping people in this country will not destroy it) and universal that almost any country can probably use it. They are pushing it to be introduced into South Africa all well and good but in South Africa the main form transport is not trains or busses (not to say they are not used a lot) but rather Tax/Mini buses. So it’s a big iffy situation.

And so that brings an end to our brief look at the tech seminar portion of the Brazil Sensational Experience held at the SCC. There was a lot of other stuff going on but nothing really connected to the technology field.

I have a few of these SATA docking stations at home but this case takes it too the next level. Besides the whole aweomsness in general around the case and the design area.

With around 24hours of video being uploaded to Youtube every minute it has becoming important that picture quality is a very important thing. With this being the focus of the release of the new driver set from ATI we see the release off ATI Catalyst 10.6 driver suite.

With the new drivers AMD scored around 48 percent better then competition and around 87 percent in the integrated graphics area. And a lst point is that the new driver set from AMD supports Adobe Flash Player 10.1.

“Through advancements in AMD hardware and software, we are helping people have a richer online experience,” said Matt Skynner, corporate vice president and general manager, AMD Graphics Division.

So there you have it, for those with ATI graphics time to update.

We have seen 3D glasses, we have seen 3D films and pictures but what we have not seen is this type of a 3D frame. What makes it so different?

Well simply put, it is 3D to the extent that you can look behind the object. Simply put, what it does is you input an image in to the computer and it will then take the image and generate 5 more that are displayed when your head moves to the different directions allowing you to get the full 3D view. I wonder if something like this would be possible with computer games and movies (would take a lot of processing power).

The frame is being developed by Newsight Japan and was shown at SID 2010.

Fujitsu has just announced that they have announced Pinnacle Africa as their new distribution partner. Pinnacle being one of the Top 5 distributors in South Africa creating a very powerful bond that will allow Fujitsu to increase their footprint in South Africa.

Regarding the partnership: Trevor van Zyl, Chief Operations Office at Pinnacle says: “The Fujitsu product range complements our existing offering. Fujitsu has a reputation for quality and reliability and I am confident that our customers will see the addition of Fujitsu products to our portfolio as a further example of the manner in which we add value to their businesses.”

Looking at this on a whole, I just hope that it increases the availability and reduces costs somehow.

It seems that Spanish players will not be able to use twitter or facebook during the world cup. In statements made by the players and the coach:

“The coaching staff has told us that they prefer that we are isolated from everything,” striker Juan Mata told a news conference on Thursday.

“I have to respect that, we must be focused on each match and on our rivals. I don’t think it’s a big deal.”

Barcelona defender Carles Puyol has already said goodbye to his Twitter fans.

“Hello everyone, from today we cannot connect until we get back from the World Cup, I will tell you about it when we get back! Greetings!” he said in a tweet.

Coach Vicente Del Bosque said days before the players gathered for training that they should not use social networking sites in order to focus on the tournament, which takes place in South Africa from June 11 to July 11.

We gather that this is obviously to keep them focused and maybe just maybe in hopes that no one by mistake leaks a small piece of their secret strategy to win the world cup. But do not worry as soon as the world cup is over they will be back and ready to tell their stories to you.

When you actually think about it, it is pretty cool but then again how desperate are you?

Anyways the team behind this is the folks from ModMyi, but an adverse side-effect is that your battery will get drained extremely faster and might mess with your 3G a bit. But hey, it can be done so if you really need to use Netflix give it a shot but keep your charger near by.

Compatible with IEEE 802.11b/g/n standardswith extended coverage 802.11b/g standards.

The DWA-525 also includes Wi-Fi Multimedia and Power Save QoS support to prioritize media traffic while conserving battery power in smaller devices which really helps a lot since when a device does a lot of traffic then it uses a lot more power.

On the security end the device also supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) and also includes 64/128-bit WEP encryption and WPA/WPA2 security to protect user networks and wireless data.

“Higher transmission speeds have become essential for smooth operation in a number of today’s newest multimedia applications and devices,” said Tobie van Schalkwyk, D-Link South Africa Country Manager. “The DWA-525 allows consumers to utilize the high speed that wireless N provides all at an affordable price.”
