There was a time when music was on just about every website. The reason for that was that it was a new and exciting idea. Internet speeds had only just grown to a speed where having a whole track of music stream from a site was possible, and so every web designer and his wife thought it would be a good idea to make use of that.

And in theory music in a website design is a cool concept – as music can perfectly create a particular mood or style by playing over the top. If you want your website to evoke feelings of futurism and excitement, then a space-age techno soundtrack replete with bleeps and swooshes could definitely accomplish that. Meanwhile if you wanted your website to create a feeling of calm and relaxation – which could certainly help to keep someone on your page if they enjoyed that – then having a kind of ‘new world’ soundtrack or the sounds of the forest would be a great way to accomplish that too.

In theory this way you can help to set a scene, turn your website into a sensory experience, and generally create a site that will be more memorable.

The Problem

There are of course problems with including music and sound in your web design however. Perhaps the biggest issue is that it can surprise people and thereby play when they weren’t prepared for it – for instance when they’re browsing while riding in the quiet zone on the train – or more commonly when they have their own music playing in the background which then results in a clash of noise that can cause anyone to quickly navigate away from your site.

Then there’s the fact that your music is always going to be a subjective matter – some people will like it, some people will not. As such if you hope to include music in your site you’re certain to alienate at least some people (though that of course is always going to be a risk to some degree).

Similarly your music will quickly become repetitive – meaning that if someone is going to be spending a long amount of time on any one page they are going to have to hear the same thing over and over – which isn’t going to be nice for them. And then finally of course there are also the bandwidth and loading speeds to consider.

Managing Sound on Your Site

So is music on a website a lost cause and something better avoided entirely? Well perhaps not always. You see in a small number of cases the strengths can still outweigh the benefits. I was looking at booking a hotel spa the other day, and the website had a beautiful flash design with lots of calming music. In a way I thought it was old fashioned – but I can’t deny that it also put me in the mood for that particular holiday. In this case then, when you are trying to make someone make an emotional impulse to buy something, you might well want to consider using all the tools at your disposal – including music. The fact that the site was low on content also ensured it was more supplementary and less relaxing.

Similarly I have seen sites that use smaller snippets of sound in a good way – buzzes on MouseOvers for instance and little trumpeting introductions. They’re kitsch but memorable and because they’re so short they don’t really interfere.

How to Use Sound Yourself

So if you’re going to use sound yourself then make sure it is appropriate for your particular site – and consider strongly all the negative points. Meanwhile look for ways to make it as unobtrusive as possible – keep file sizes short, music relatively low key, and always provide an option to mute it. Finally, make sure the music you choose is good but also that you have the rights to it – if necessary use a sound editing tool like Musagi to compose your own tracks.

Friends…

Some fans will write to you and gush about your YouTube videos and your writing style and these messages can be fun to answer – you get an ego boost and they get to hear back from someone they clearly admire. However you also need to know where to draw the line here and when to cut things off. If someone continues to e-mail you multiple times a day then this can simply take up too much of your time when you could be working. Likewise if they become too obsessive… well it’s a little bit creepy.

The solution is to be friendly but somewhat removed in all of your communications with fans and to take your time responding so that they don’t come to expect a fast reply. Another tip is to make sure that you have somewhere to talk such as a forum or a comments utility on your site. This way if they are taking up too much of your time you can simply ask that they correspond from now on using your forum. This is a good strategy because it then benefits your SEO and because it means your discussions are now public and thus less creepy…

Spam

Spam is a big problem if you give your e-mail address out on your website, and the obvious solution is to write your e-mail address without the @ and to avoid using a mailto link. However if you find this creates a barrier and stops you from being contacted as much then you might want to write a PHP contact form with a spam filter to solve the problem. Finally, it’s always a good idea to have a separate e-mail for business and for leisure.

In TechnoStreak, I have already discussed about this trick earlier which is now working no more. So, I have planned to teach you an updated and working trick of Posting Music in your Facebook Post. Particularly, MP3. Only MP3 Formats can be used in this trick.

You can use this trick to post music on,

1. Your own Timeline/Wall.
2. Friend’s Timeline/Wall.
3. Your Facebook Fan Page.

Earlier trick which I posted doesn’t works now. As Facebook has updated its PHP file to uiserver.php, a new code should be used to make this trick possible. This update occurred recently.

I would like to explain it in a step wise manner so that beginners could easily grasp this trick.

Step 1: Browse web to get a direct MP3 URL of your Favorite song to be inserted in your Facebook Post.

Step 2: Copy the below code and paste it in your favorite text editor, say Notepad.

Step 3: Facebook Music player doesn’t syncs the music details from the link. So, you must replace the text MUSIC LINK HERE, MUSIC TITLE HERE, ARTIST NAME HERE and MUSIC ALBUM HERE with your direct MP3 link of your favorite music, Title of your music, Composer’s name and Album Title respectively in the code.

Step 4: After replacing, your code becomes ready for the usage. You can now paste the entire code in your Address bar of your Web browser. Paste them there and hit Enter. When you see a music player embedded in your post, you are successful in making use of this trick. Just click the Play button on the player to test whether it Plays or not. When you get better results, you may click on the Share button to spread among your Friends.

Replace USER ID OF THE PERSON to your Friend’s ID. Please note that I said ID, not username. To find the ID of the person, Go to his/her timeline and click on the Gear icon. Make a ‘Right Click’ on See Friendship menu. Choose ‘Copy Link Location’ option from the pop out menu. Just Paste it in Notepad and analyze the Link.

You will see a link similar to this: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=123456789&and=98765431. Here 123456789 is your ID and 987654321 is your Friend’s ID. I just explained from the example link. You can grab this by experimentation.

To Post Music in your Fan Page, you need to insert two lines in the code which you use.

&from=PAGE ID
&target_id=PAGE ID

Insert the above lines at the end of the code. Replace PAGE ID to your Facebook Fan Page ID. Please see that both &from and &target_id must contain same ID of your Page. If you did not specify &from, then it posts with your name and not as your page.

To get the Page ID, open Admin Panel in your Page’s Timeline. Right Click on the See All button in the notification section. Choose Copy Link Location and paste it somewhere in Notepad. Just analyze the link. You could find your Page’s ID. Insert them directly here.

Facebook seems to have patched the way used to show animated images.All images are now static.But if you are curious Give it a try…

Have you seen some Facebook pages posting Animated Pictures on their Page? Have you ever tried to do it for your own page? Most of you might be eager to know about this. We, TechnoStreak recently posted a tutorial to insert Animated Pictures on Facebook by using some codes where some of the users felt uneasy to edit them.

This trick makes your Fans to get attracted the most. Most of the users share your page directly without noticing that it is a page’s link, they share due to an attracted animated picture posted by you. Still confused? Wait for a while.

Before starting this tutorial, I would like to thank people who provided us Comments and Feedback. Your support made me a way to experiment your ideas. I would like to receive further comments and feedback so that we still provide you better services on Technology.

And finally, here’s the tutorial.

To work out this trick, you need the following requirements:

1. Google Chrome (Newer version Recommended)

I think most of you may have this stuff. After confirming that you have this requirement, just follow simple 8 steps shown below.

Step 1: Open Google Chrome and Log in to your Facebook account.

Step 2: Navigate to a Facebook Fan page what you want to share.

Step 3: I think, now all Facebook pages might have got Timeline view. Click on the Gear box and choose Share.
You will get a dialog similar to this.
Step 4: Now right click on the white space in the Dialog and click Inspect element.

Step 5: Now find a code link similar to the below picture. If you scroll down or up for some distance using scroll arrows, you might get this. Just right click them and Choose Edit as HTML.

Step 6: Do you find a image link which is in JPG format? Just replace the link with Animated Picture link. Get Animated Pictures link from: http://pastebin.com/nqSv29zZ

In the above picture, I have inserted a link of Animated Picture. Please keep in mind that pictures only from Facebook server works. If you specify a picture that is hosted in other sites, you can’t expect animation.

Step 7: Again, Right click on the Thumbnail of the Share Dialog and choose Inspect Element.

By doing this, you will find another code which contains a JPG picture link. Just Replace the with the Animated picture link which you used in Step 6. But here, the code looks similar to the picture shown below.
Step 8: Now right click on the code and choose Edit as HTML. Replace your Animated picture code.
I have replaced my Animated picture link in the code. Now it’s time to Share. After completing all the steps, give a click on white space of the Share dialog.  If you see changes in the Share dialog, you are successful. You can now click on Share Page button to Share your Page.
