Samsung Galaxy S III with Exynos 4 Quad Core Processor

As Samsung's Galaxy event comes near, more and more information is coming to light about the Most anticipated Mobile phone Galaxy S III – if that's even what it's going to be called. The latest roumors are confirmed by Samsung itself: Samsung announced that the upcoming phone will feature the Exynos 4 Quad, as previously rumored. This clashes with benchmarks for a phone labelled the Galaxy S III posted to the AnTuTu database earlier today, claiming that the phone used a dual-core Exynos architecture.

Samsung went on to describe the next-generation quad-core chip as using a 32 nanometer High-k Metal Gate construction, allowing for considerably better performance than conventional mobile processors. The chip will run at 1.4Ghz on all four cores (at least in the upcoming Galaxy phone) and has a claimed efficiency boost of 20% over similar 45nm chips. Each core can be dynamically turned on and off as extra power is needed or not needed.

Samsung's Senior Vice President of Product Strategy Team Hankil Yoon had this to say:

"The application processor is a crucial element in providing our customers with PC-like experience on mobile devices. Samsung's next Galaxy device, which will be officially announced soon, offers uncompromised performance and ground breaking multi-tasking features, thanks to Exynos 4 Quad's powerful performance and efficient energy management technology."

Samsung did not give specifics for devices beyond their next Galaxy phone, which the company did not name. But presumably this is the same quad-core Exynos chip destined for the upgraded Galaxy Note 10.1, and perhaps the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 as well. It's also likely that the Exynos 4 Quad is the chip powering the Meizu MX Quad-core, announced last week for a May release. Gadget Review : Micromax Funbook

We got a lot of queries from many eager buyers about the device and here's a comprehensive review of the Funbook- the cheapest Android tablet in India.

First looks

Micromax has a good skill of making its devices eye catchy, which means many people fall in love with its products. Same is the case with Funbook. The 7 inch tablet is without doubt sleek and stylish with a dual tone colour scheme that adds a touch of class to it.

Micromax has managed to keep the tablet at less than 400 grams, which comes in real handy while traveling or holding the device for long. The display has been protected with a scratch resistant layer, which runs edge to edge giving the device a flush and neat front.

Design
With the 7 inch tablet segment growing bigger by the day there are many manufacturers in this arena. Funbook too is one of them.

Some of the buttons are placed on the right side of the Micromax Funbook making them extremely handy to use. They comprise six hardware keys, of which three are for volume and power /standby, and the rest are in the front for interface control such as home, return and the menu/option short key.

The screen
Micromax Funbook has a 7 inch display with 800 x 480 pixel resolution. The resolution is certainly on the lower side but since it is a low cost tablet, we have no regrets with that as the display performed well in most scenarios. In terms of colour reproduction, the display is a bit disappointing, but when it comes to brightness levels, it is highly impressive and complements every application or game that is run on the device.

Hardware and operating system
Featuring a dual core processor which is based on ARM Cortex A8 architecture and runs at 1.2 GHz, the Funbook is speedy enough to handle most tasks and multitasking requirements with light to medium usage. The processor is coupled with 512 MB of DDR3 RAM, which is a must have for the device, but we somehow feel that it should have had more RAM for faster performance.

Performance

The device performs well under normal conditions, but once you start stressing the device with multiple applications multi tasking starts slowing down because of the low RAM. Operating system optimisation for the device is spot on and you won't face any compatibility issues.

All in all, the Micromax Funbook is a great product that offers superb value for money and features that would definitely put users in the fast lane.

Google got fined for USD 25K by FCC

Google is in problem as google got $25,000 fine for impeding a Federal Communications Commission investigation into the technological giant's data-collection practices.

The world's pioneer search engine came under fire before two years when it was revealed that its popular but controversial street-mapping program -- in which cars snap photos of homes, intersections and other neighborhood features -- was also picking up sensitive information from home wireless networks such as email and text messages, passwords and Internet usage history.

The FCC, which filed its 25-page huge report on Friday, said despite Google admitting wrongdoing at the time, the company has since "deliberately impeded and delayed" the agency's probe into the matter, according to the New York Times.

Specifically, the FCC said Google was not responding to email requests for more information and was refusing to identify the employees involved.

Despite the relatively small fine, the FCC noted that the data collection was legal because the information was not encrypted, according to the New York Times.

The investigation raises a fresh round of questions over the right to privacy in an increasingly digital world. In a recent statewide poll, the vast majority of Californians said they were worried about the data collected by smartphone and Internet companies, and most said they distrust even firms that are known for having tens of millions of users, such as Facebook.

Calls and emails to Google were not returned Sunday morning.

Two years ago, a separate probe by the Federal Trade Commission into Google's Street View project led the agency to announce that it was satisfied with the tech firm's explanation into its data-collection practices and would not impose any fines.

In a recent major change in blogger platform, free blogs from india at blogger.com will be automatically redirected from .blogspot.com to .blogspot.in.

This is a major change and it is affecting the alexa rankings as well as country wise google rankings.

Eg: The URL like www.technosurfer.blogspot.com will be changed to www.technosurfer.blogspot.in, if it is operated from India. Google has not yet released official statement about this major blogger change.

Apple may launch iPhone 5 soon this summer (April)

World's largest Mobile Phone maker company, Apple may release fifth generation iPhone 5 this summer (April), according to a report published on a website.

Quoting sources at Foxconn a manufacturing company for Apple iPhone, which , the website (9to5mac.com) said, “We received word from a reliable source at Foxconn in China that the iPhone 5, as it is currently being called, is now gearing for production. The source said various sample devices are also floating around (they vary slightly from one another), so it is impossible to tell which one will be the final.”

This Reliable Report Says, the Apple iPhone 5 may have a 4 inch display and would have a different design than its older cousins like iPhone 4S and 3GS. The upcoming Apple iPhone 5 would be longer and wider, the report added.

Apple has managed to keep growing though there is Android boom in market. According to a latest market research, Apple has managed to grow its market share last year significantly to become the world’s largest handset maker. The release of iPhone 5 is expected to give its sales a further boost and also supports to get the big potential market share.

Merck pharma challenges facebook after loosing its page

The German drugmaker Merck KGaA has begun legal action against Facebook after discovering what its lawyer described as the "the apparent takeover of its Facebook page".

The webpage is being used by the German firm's US rival Merck & Co.

Merck KGaA said that the social network "is an important marketing device [and] the page is of great value", adding that since its competitor was benefiting from the move "time is of the essence."

A Facebook spokeswoman said: "We are looking into it."

Merck KGaA said it had entered into an agreement with Facebook for the exclusive rights to www.facebook.com/merck in March 2010.

The German firm said a number of its employees had been subsequently assigned administrative rights to the page.

However, Merck KGaA said that when it had checked the site on 11 October this year it had discovered it had lost control of the page, and that content on the site now belonged to Merck & Co.

Divided

The two drugmakers both stem from the same firm set up by a pharmacy owner in the German city of Darmstadt in 1668.

The business was split in two after World War I as part of the reparations package imposed on Germany.

Merck KGaA's lawyer, Robert Horowitz said he had sent a letter and a series of emails to various Facebook staff asking to discuss what had happened to the webpage.

However, he said the respondents "either did not understand the problem... [or were] intentionally giving unresponsive answers".

Mr Horowitz said that when he had requested a telephone conversation, one of Facebook's staff "incredibly replied that 'no-one is available for a call at this time'".

Legal steps

Merck KGaA has since filed a petition with the- Supreme Court of the State of New York.

"We took legal action versus Facebook to ask for information why a website we thought we owned isn't ours anymore," Dr Gangolf Schrimpf, a spokesman for Merck KGaA, told the BBC.

"We are just trying to learn what happened."

However, the court filing notes that: "Merck is considering causes of action for breach of conduct, tortious interference with contract, tortious interference with prospective business advantage, and/or conversion."

Interaction

Merck KGaA stressed that it had not taken any action against its US counterpart at this stage.

Facebook was unwilling to make a comment beyond saying that it was looking into the case.

Branding experts say the case reflects a growing belief that social networks can offer firms a better way of reaching their customers than through their own websites.

"Company communication departments have realised that many of the people they want to reach and influence are already on Facebook," said Simon Myers, from the consultancy Figtree Network.

"As corporate content becomes more tailored and engaging, social media sites such as Facebook represent a brighter future of greater customer dialogue and interaction than the current corporate website with static content and pictures of people shaking hands."

Selling at a price of $499 for 32-gigabytes of built-in storage, or $599 for 64-gigabytes of storage, the Transformer Prime features a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, 1-gigabyte of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

The tablet will also have a mini-HDMI port for connecting to an HDTV and a microSD card slot for added storage.

But the bigger draws of the Transformer Prime, so far, have been the potential performance might of the device's Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor. Asus has also said the slate will be among the first to run Google's new Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. Quad-core processors, so far, have been found only in desktop computers and high-end laptops. Whether or not this will result in a better tablet, with tangibly superior performance over dual-core tablets such Apple's iPad 2, the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Motorola Xoom, among others, remains to be seen. But the PC comparisons aren't lost on Asus. For a price of $149, the Taiwanese company is making available a full-sized keyboard and trackpad dock that will allow the Transformer Prime to mimic the look (and ideally the operation) of a laptop.

Googleplus Get 50 Million Users in 88 Days

Google's Own Social Networking Site Google+ is likely crossed the 50 million user mark. And since being opened to the general public (over age 18) last week, Google+ has been growing by at least 4% per day, meaning that around 2 million new users have been signing up each day at Google+, Which is much more faster then the other social networking sites.

There is no doubt of that Google+ is now a socialite. As per now it is hard for me to imagine a scenario where Google+ doesn't end up with hundreds of millions of users. It is nothing but just a matter of time.

By Google+'s integrating +1 and Circles (targeted audiance or users sharing) and other Google+ functionality into its Chrome web browser, Android mobile phones (and portable tablets), Blogger, Gmail, Google Photos, Google Reader and other products, Google+ will give its more than one billion users repeated chances to sign up for and use the functionality of Google+. Like the Chrome commercials say, "the web is what you make of it." And with Google+, you can make so much more of it that ever before.

Effects on the Facebook :

This is not to be considered as a bad news for Facebook. Competition can make companies much better. Facebook has improved its functionality in the past few weeks by implementing changes inspired by Google+ (lists, longer posts and comments, the subscribe feature, etc.) At the same time, they have leaped forward in other ways with new features like Timeline and by partnering with music and media companies.

Google Discontinues Knol, Wave, Gears and More Products

Google is on its way to trim and shut down more of its products that are not doing so well. Google calls them "off-season spring cleaning series". These cleaning service also included before the discontinuation of gogle products like Aardvark, Google Desktop, Fast Flip, Code Search, Buzz, Jaiku, and even Google Labs - and today, it's announcing a new batch of products that will be shut down in the coming few months.

Google had already announced the end of Google Wave (which Google ended development over a year ago) and Google Gears, their respective demises now have specific dates attached. Additionally, Google's long fogotten Wikipedia competitor Google Knol has been added removal list.

Knol, in particular, comes as something of a surprise to me — because I figured Google had already shut it down. The site first launched back in 2008 to much fanfare, as Google introduced a potential Wikipedia challenger that would allow article contributors to monetize their content. But the product languished, and back in July 2010 some extended downtime made us wonder if Google had forgotten about it.

Here's the full list of products being shuttered, from Google's blog post:

Google Bookmarks Lists - This is an experimental feature for sharing bookmarks and collaborating with friends, which we're going to end on December 19, 2011. All bookmarks within Lists will be retained and labeled for easier identification, while the rest of Google Bookmarks will function as usual. As Lists was an English-only feature, non-English languages will be unaffected.

Google Friend Connect - Friend Connect allows webmasters to add social features to their sites by embedding a few snippets of code. We're retiring the service for all non-Blogger sites on March 1, 2012. We encourage affected sites to create a Google+ page and place a Google+ badge on their site so they can bring their community of followers to Google+ and use new features like Circles and Hangouts to keep in touch.

Google Gears -In March we said goodbye to the Gears browser extension for creating offline web applications and stopped supporting new browsers. On December 1, 2011, Gears-based Gmail and Calendar offline will stop working across all browsers, and later in December Gears will no longer be available for download. This is part of our effort to help incorporate offline capabilities into HTML5, and we've made a lot of progress. For example, you can access Gmail, Calendar and Docs offline in Chrome.

Google Search Timeline -We're removing this graph of historical results for a query. Users will be able to restrict any search to particular time periods using the refinement tools on the left-hand side of the search page. Additionally, users who wish to see graphs with historical trends for a web search can use google.com/trends or google.com/insights/search/ for data since 2004. For more historical data, the “ngram viewer” in Google Books offers similar information. Google Wave—We announced that we'd stopped development on Google Wave over a year ago. But as of January 31, 2012, Wave will become read-only and you won't be able to create new ones. On April 30 we will turn it off completely. You'll be able to continue exporting individual waves using the existing PDF export feature until the Google Wave service is turned off. If you'd like to continue using this technology, there are a number of open-source projects, including Apache Wave and Walkaround.

Knol -We launched Knol in 2007 to help improve web content by enabling experts to collaborate on in-depth articles. In order to continue this work, we've been working with Solvitor and Crowd Favorite to create Annotum, an open-source scholarly authoring and publishing platform based on WordPress. Knol will work as usual until April 30, 2012, and you can download your knols to a file and/or migrate them to WordPress.com. From May 1 through October 1, 2012, knols will no longer be viewable, but can be downloaded and exported. After that time, Knol content will no longer be accessible.

Renewable Energy Cheaper than Coal (RE<C) -This initiative was developed as an effort to drive down the cost of renewable energy, with an RE<C engineering team focused on researching improvements to solar power technology. Samsung Galaxy S II in white color, looking really pretty [Update]

The Samsung Galaxy S II in white is on its way to T-Mobile USA -- same phone as before, same price, just a different color. As I am a die hard fan of white color smart phone so it was catchy news for me so I am writing it on my web here.

The Galaxy S II -- my current favorite all-around Android smart phone on the market -- launched on T-Mobile back in October in a sharp shade of black with a gunmetal-gray band around the side of the phone, at a price of $229.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate card and a two-year voice-and-data plan.

And now, like the iPhone 4 and 4S, the HTC Evo and Evo 3D, and the Samsung Nexus S (among many other phones out there), the Galaxy S II is being released in a simple white plastic casing too.

A T-Mobile spokeswoman emailed an image of the white Galaxy S II, saying the phone doesn't yet have a solid release date but that "it will be available in time for the holidays."

The specs of the white Galaxy S II are the same as the black model -- a 4.52-inch touchscreen with an 800 x 480 pixel resolution, a 1.5-gigahertz dual-core processor, 1 gigabyte of RAM, 16 gigabytes of built-in storage, an 8-megapixel camera on the back that can shoot 1080p video, and a 2-megapixel camera up front.

The Android mobile operating system is the most popular platform for new malware, according to a report. [you can see the increasing bars in the graph, which shows the attacks of malware on android.]

The McAfee Threats Report for the third quarter said there's been a continued emphasis on mobile malware and that "Android is clearly today's target."

Malware authors have gotten more clever, with Android malware signing users up for subscription services without their knowledge, recording their phone calls to steal data and gaining access to system databases.

McAfee said the cumulative malware number has exceeded 70 million, and the company expects to count about 75 million unique malware samples by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, spam around the world has continued its downward trend and is at 2007 levels. Still, even though spam volume is way down, McAfee Labs said it saw targeted spam, often called spearphishing, at its greatest development in years.

"The signal we need to hear is that the bad guys have changed their tactics. They are protecting their business models and are doing so with a sophistication that creates a more dangerous threat than before," the report said.

Researchers from the University of Washington and Aalto University in Finland are one step closer to developing a contact lens that may one day allow you to see words displayed over your regular field of vision -- just like the Terminator, RoboCop and EVA.

Potential applications of this developing technology include navigation, gaming, and receiving instant data on the vulnerabilities of those you are trying to destroy.

In a study published in the November issue of the Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering, the paper’s authors explain that the lens would receive data through an antenna that is embedded right inside it--- (the round gold circle in the picture above). The contact lens also has a tiny silicon power-harvesting and radio-integrated circuit, metal interconnects, insulation layers and a very small transparent sapphire chip containing a custom-designed micro-LED.

So far, researchers have only been able to put one pixel on the contact lens, which would manifest itself to the wearer as just a tiny dot of light. But scientists involved with the project see the success of the one-pixel lens as proof of concept for producing lenses with multiple pixels, which could eventually be used to display short emails and text messages right before your eyes.

The lens has not been tested on humans, but it has been tested on rabbits, and so far no adverse reactions have been noticed.

Co-author of the study, Professor Babak Praviz of the University of Washington, said in a statement that there is still a lot of work to be done before the Terminator-style contact lens is a functioning reality.

“We need to improve the antenna design and the associated matching network and optimize the transmission frequency to achieve an overall improvement in the range of wireless power transmission,” he said. “Our next goal, however, is to incorporate some predetermined text in the contact lens."

In other words, he'll be back.

Google Plus Launch Circle Chat Feature

Continuously updating Google has added a new chat feature to Google+.

When I opened up the service this morning, I was greeted with a message described in below picture. After seeing that alert message I clicked the "Learn more" link in that Google Said "Google Chat makes it easy to chat with people you have relationships with. In Google+, you can chat with anyone in your Circles who also has added you to their Circles. And, when you are not using Google Plus, you will still be able to chat with them using Google products including, Gmail, the Google Talk client, iGoogle, Orkut and 3rd party apps."

Before today Google Plus was not allowing chatting with friends in Google+ unless you have their email id. That means, You could only chat with people if you knew their email address, so this opens up a whole new line of instant communication, and eliminates one of Facebook's major advantages in terms of features.

The Friend-list Display in chat is quiet tricky. Rather than displaying all of your contacts in a single chat list, it will show you contacts from your most recent conversations that are online. You can also use the search box to find the others.

Chat is obviously one of the most social features of any product online. It's direct, instant conversation. I don't know how crucial it is to the success of Google+, but it certainly can't hurt. I know Facebook chat gets used quite a bit.

Google needs to integrate the group messaging of the Google+ mobile app here as well. As it stands right now, I have an ongoing discussion going among myself and a few other people via the messaging feature, but no way to access that conversation from the web interface.

It is really interesting that Google+ launched with video chat (hangouts) ahead of text chat, but now it has both, and should be better for it. By the way, you can video chat from the chat feature itself as well.

Mother gets back Dead Son's Phone with Last Message

A woman got back her lost mobile phone that contained the last voice messages of her son who died of cancer, thanks to an internet campaign in China. One of the messages said: "Mom, don't cry. I love you".

Police in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region traced the phone following tip-offs from microbloggers.

The phone belonged to Wang Guolan, whose 19-year-old son Cheng died last year, the Shanghai Daily reported citing the Shanghai Evening Post.

The phone was a "spiritual support" for Wang since it contained Cheng's messages.

The voice messages included "Mom, do you miss me?" and "Mom, don't cry. I love you".

Police found the man who said he had picked up the phone on the street.

When police handed the phone back to her, Wang broke down and said her son had come back.

Facebook to Facebook calling now on skype [update]

On Thursday, Skype announced an update to its Windows and Mac OS X apps that enable the Internet calling service to offer users Facebook-to-Facebook video chatting.

It's a natural move for Skype, which has powered Facebook's video chat feature since its debut in July.

"Our approach to social is about personal connections with people," Rick Osterloh, vice president of product at Skype, said in a blog post. "We are on a mission to connect over one billion people and our continued partnership with Facebook brings us one step closer to this goal."

Those looking to start video chats with their Facebook friends from Skype simply need to sync their accounts from the two services to get the ball rolling. Once that is completed, a user's Facebook friends will show up alongside the user's Skype contacts in the app.

"This new feature lets you maintain social connections with your Facebook friends and compliments previously announced features such as being able to see when your Facebook friends are online, read their status updates and IM them all from Skype," Osterloh said.

Video calls placed from Skype can be answered in either Skype or Facebook -- depending on which service the recipient is logged into at the time.

The update also integrates Facebook Messenger for instant messaging from Skype to Facebook.

The increased Skype and Facebook integration is good for Skype's parent company, Microsoft, which owns a stake in Facebook, partners on ads with the social network and has a deal in place that makes Bing the search engine used inside the world's most widely used social network.

The second part is about increased penalties for all infringements. The House Judiciary Committee scheduled a hearing on the Stop Online Piracy Act for Nov. 16.

The bill has received a lot of support from the entertainment industry and leaders from both political parties. The opposition of major tech companies helps balance the playing field.

iPhone 4S: Battery issue is still not solved [Update]

Now this battery issue is dragging since so many time it should have some permanent solution. Apple's iOS 5.0.1. update was supposed to relieve the battery drain on the company's latest iPhone, but some users are complaining that the fix didn't work and, in some cases, made the problem worse. Little disappointing.

"The recent iOS software update addressed many of the battery issues that some customers experienced on their iOS5 devices," Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller said. "We continue to investigate a few remaining issues."

The update was released Thursday, and by Friday, many users had taken to Twitter and other forums to discuss the efficacy of the update.

"Is it just me or did the #iOS5 update do absolutely nothing to address the battery issues?" chadmolloy said on Twitter.

"iPhone 4s has gone down to 34% battery in 7 hours... Update never worked," richcovephoto tweeted.

Twitter user DanGunam had a more successful experience, writing: "I can already see the difference with the new iOS5 update 5.01 my battery life is longer."

So, bottom line is - For some people it worked and for it didn't, I thing Apple will come out with some more powerful solution and there will be no more battery problem. As I read on the internet somewhere that Apple is tacking back their 1st generation iPod nano because of battery problem. So the people who have that 1st generation iPod nano should check online by entering their product number to see whether they are eligible to get a replacement or not.
