SCM subscribers to enjoy greater value and convenience with three new channels at no additional cost

SINGAPORE, 13 October 2011 – FOX International Channels (FIC) and StarHub announce the roll out of a new STAR Chinese Movies (SCM) Pack, allowing movie fans to watch their favourite movies from all five SCM channels at the existing subscription rate, with no further extra charge, starting 15 October 2011.

The newly launched SCM Pack will include the current STAR Chinese Movies(StarHub TV Channel 866) and STAR Chinese Movies 2 (StarHub TV Channel867) channels, as well as three additional channels: STAR Chinese Movies HD (StarHub TV Channel 877), STAR Chinese Movies On Demand (StarHub TV Channel864), and STAR Chinese Movies 2 On Demand (StarHub TV Channel 865),all at the usual $12.84 (with GST)1 for the entire pack.

Fox International Channels (FIC) has renewed its carriage deal with StarHub in Singapore for its channels and services such as Nat Geo Wild, which is adding Malay- and Tamil-language options for the region.

The deal includes STAR Movies, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild, STAR World, FOX, FX, FOX Family Movies, Channel [V] International, Channel [V] Taiwan, Channel [V] China, STAR Chinese Movies, STAR Vijay, STAR Plus, tvN, Phoenix Chinese Channel and Sky News. Eight channels of the FIC HD channel bouquet are part of StarHub's HD offerings to viewers in Singapore.

As part of the renewal deal, Malay- and Tamil-language tracks will be made available to viewers of Nat Geo Wild starting today. These language tracks are in addition to the currently available English and Mandarin audio, making Nat Geo Wild the first channel in Singapore available in all four official languages in the country.

Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 motherboard with mSATA PCIe SSD interface

According to OCWorkbench Facebook fanpage, Gigabyte will introduce a new Z68 board with Intel Smart Response Technology using a PCIe based SSD connector at the centre of the mainboard. According to the post, the Z68XP-UD3 will be showcased at Computex Taipei 2011 trade show to be held next week in Taipei, Taiwan.

From the looks of the board, this board supports both SLI and CrossFireX. It also has 1394, Realtek 8 ch audio, Dual BIOS, Dolby Home Theatre, Etrontech powered USB 3.0, DES, On/Off Charge and features a 2x copper PCB.

This is the upcoming Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3. This new board has a new feature mSATA. If you look at the centre of the mainboard, you will see a PCIe slot socket where you can insert a PCIe based SSD.

With the SSD, the Intel Smart Response System can be enabled just like any Z68 board. Instead of using a SATA port and hook it up with a SSD ...as the "cache", it now uses the PCIe based SSD.

Unfortunately such SSDs are not readily available off the shelves in this part of the world. I feel that such design is more suitable for notebooks.

For the first time ever, viewers in Singapore will be able to catch the French Open Finals in 3D on StarHub TV, in the comfort of their own homes. Roland Garros French Open

The French Open, more commonly known as Roland Garros, is one of the most popular tournaments in the tennis calendar. The 2011 event recently premiered on Racquet Channel (StarHub TV Channel 211). Defending champion Rafael Nadal, who has won the Men’s Singles title at five editions of the French Open, may have to give up his crown this time to make way for current World No. 2 Novak Djokovic. Djokovic defeated Nadal twice on clay this year – once at the recent Rome Masters and the other earlier in Madrid this year. Will the Djok make it an unprecedented hat-trick of clay court victories over Nadal and secure his first Grand Slam on clay; will the Muscles of Mallorca run himself ragged to salvage his clay court season and take an unprecedented sixth Roland Garros title, or will World No. 3 Roger Federer take the world by surprise and snatches the title from the two hot favourites?

2011 Copa America

Making its return to StarHub TV this year, the Copa America tournament is likened to be the UEFA Euro of South America. This year’s Copa America will see 10 South American countries and two invited teams taking part in the tournament, whereby the winner will go on to represent South America at the 2013 Confederations Cup. The participating countries are Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela while the two invited teams are from Costa Rica and Mexico.

Football Channel (StarHub TV Channel 222) will air all 26 matches ‘live’ from 1 to 24 July 2011. Football fans can expect to catch stars like Lionel Messi, Robinho, Diego Forlan and Antonio Valencia in action at the upcoming tournament and cheer their favourite teams on. Defending champions Brazil will be in for a tough fight with first runner-up Argentina in the 43rd edition of the Copa America tournament.

Annex 1

How to watch a ‘live’ 3D programme?

· Tune to the designated channel showing the 3D programme. You will see two side-by-side images on the channel.

· If you do not have 3D TV sets, you will not be able to view the programme in 3D. Simply tune to the channel that is showing the programme in 2D.

· For customers with 3D TV sets, you can press the “3D” button on your TV set remote control to set your TV set to 3D mode. As the steps may differ among the 3D TV sets from the various TV manufacturers, we would recommend you to refer to your TV manual on the exact procedures.

· Select the “Side-by-side” mode in your 3D settings, after confirmation, the screen will display a “Blurred” image.

· Put on your 3D glasses to start enjoying the programme in 3D. If you are using an active pair of 3D glasses, do remember to power on your glasses.

· When you tune to other 2D channels or when you wish to use the TV Guide, do remember to change your TV set settings back to 2D.

Starhub to introduce more HD channels Channel 560, 569 and 580

A check on Starhub TV channels shows us that there are at least 3 English channels under the English Entertainment group. The 3 channels, which the genre is unknown an be found on Channel 560, 569 and 580. As the numbers are in the upper series of 500, we presume these 3 channels are HD channels.

SPE Networks Asia: Channel ONE – Your Favourite SBS Television Shows Brought to Singapore

Singapore, 5 April 2011 – ONE, the first Asian general entertainment TV channel from SPE Networks – Asia (SPENA) and its high-definition feed ONE HD, have expanded their distribution to Singapore via StarHub TV.ONE and ONE HD will be available to StarHub TV customers from 9 April 2011 via channels 823 and 876 respectively in the Chinese Entertainment Basic Group.

With ONE and ONE HD, viewers in Singapore can enjoy the latest Korean dramas, some premiering within weeks of their debut broadcasts in South Korea. ONE is the first and exclusive destination of shows produced by SBS through its supply deal with the Seoul-based content supplier and broadcaster.

Starhub might launch a CHinese HD channel

If you have been surfing the variuos channels on your remote control, you would have noticed there are two new Chinese channels. It seems that one is a SD and the other is a HD channel. The HD channel, supposedly a movie channel can be found on Channel 876. The SD channel is on Channel 823.

Would they be entertainment channel or a drama channel ? Let's wait and see.

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Intel Corp.’s (INTC) chief executive said the chip giant remains committed to its MeeGo operating system and doesn’t believe ARM Holdings PLC (ARMH) will be competing in servers anytime soon.

Intel partner Nokia Corp. (NOK) said last week that it was shifting strategy to adopt Microsoft Corp.’s (MSFT) Windows Phone as its main smartphone platform rather than MeeGo–something Intel Chief Executive Paul Otellini characterized as a financial decision on the part of Nokia Chief Executive Stephen Elop.

“Between Microsoft and Google [Inc. (GOOG)], he was getting incredible offers [of] money,” Otellini said at an investor conference in London.

Huawei launches IDEOS Google Android 2.2 handset in Hong Kong today

Google and Huawei have announced an Android smartphone that runs the Android 2.2 mobile OS. Huawei says the IDEOS phone is the first mass-market handset to be offered with the Android 2.2 OS preinstalled.

The Huawei IDEOS will carry a SIM-free price tag of between US$100 and $200 depending on where it’s bought. Huawei is currently in active negotiations with a number of carriers keen to offer the Google-branded device. The phone is set for “commercial launch” in mid-October in Europe and Asia-Pacific.

The Huawei IDEOS Android smartphone offers 3G HSDPA connectivity as well as 80.11n Wi-Fi. This, explained Nicola Philbin, Huawei’s director for terminals, UK and Ireland, offers web connection speeds up to six times faster than standard Wi-Fi. The phone also supports 3G tethering, allowing it to act as modem for a laptop to connect to the web where a Wi-Fi or Ethernet broadband connection is not available.
The Huawei IDEOS smartphone sports a 2.8in QVGA capacitative touchscreen, has a 3.2Mp camera, Bluetooth A2DP and 512MB of internal memory. Running a Qualcomm 528MHz processor, the IDEOS handset has its own media player and accepts microSD cards up to 32GB.
The Huawei IDEOS was co-developed by Google and the Chinese hardware manufacturer and is effectively a successor device to the high-end Nexus One smartphone that Google co-developed with HTC. While the Google Nexus One showcased the Android 2.1 clair version of the mobile operating system and was pitched against the likes of the Apple iPhone, the IDEOS is a mass market handset thats natural rivals are the HTC Desire and Legend.

Preinstalled applications include Google Talk, Google Maps and the Android Market app download service. Since the Huawei IDEOS is equipped with the newest version of the Android OS, it will support the ability to run applications stored on a microSD card, deftly getting around the limitations of the handset’s 512MB internal memory.

The HTC Desire handset was the first device on which the Android 2.2 Froyo upgrade was offered, having originally been sold as a 2.1 clair smartphone. HTC and its partners have come under fire for the tricksy upgrade path for the HTC Desire, caused in part by the Vodafone 360 and Samsung TouchWiz user interfaces overlaid on the standard Android interface.

The IDEOS handset will be available in blue, black, purple or yellow versions. The front of the smartphone is black, though largely dominated by its bright, responsive capacitive touchscreen, while the rear has a colourful backplate and is branded ‘with Google’. It is named the IDEOS because of its industrial design, evolutionary status and its innovative operating system. These elements, Huawei believe, fit neatly with its company philisophy of a “simple device; smarter world”.

Camera maker Nikon has unveiled its new slim Coolpix compact, boasting a 14.1 megapixel lens, high-definition (HD) filming and with an easy-to-use touch screen.

Weighing 133g (including battery and memory card) the Coolpix S80 is lighter than some mobile phones, yet packs a 5X zoom and 720p HD video camera.

However, it is the high resolution 3.5 inch organic LED touch screen that Nikon believes has raised the bar for its compact cameras.

Mark Pekelharing, product manager at Nikon said: "The S80 demonstrates Nikon's commitment to lead the touch screen camera category.

"The high-quality screen allows you to interact with your images with ease whilst its high-speed performance captures the perfect shot quickly and in clear definition. Providing substance as well as a unique sense of style, the S80 is the perfect camera for the fashionable photographer."

For example, the S80's Touch Shutter function allows users to focus or take a picture just by touching the relevant area on the screen, and makes framing shots more intuitive.

With the screen's 819,000 pixel resolution, editing - using the cameras inbuilt filters and colour effects - is also possible without the need to upload photos to a computer first.

Despite its tiny proportions Nikon said the S80's battery life is capable of taking 150 shots.

The compact is also packed with features to improve portrait photography, like its face-priority focus, skin softening, smile timer, automatic red-eye remover and blink proof shooting - which takes two sequential shots.

The S80 costs £329.99. It hits shops on October 7.

Singapore digital-cable operator StarHub has teamed up with Fox International Channels (FIC) to launch a new Star Movies Pack from next week.

Launching on Sep 16, the pack includes Star Movies, Fox Family Movies, Star Movies HD and Star Movies on Demand. The package will cost S$17.12 per month. Star Movies is already available to StarHub subscribers, with customers currently paying S$12.84 a month for just the one channel.

Fox Family Movies is launching for the first time in Singapore and will be available for free until October 13 to all StarHub subs. Offering family movies from studios including 20^th Century Fox and Walt Disney, premieres include 102 Dalmatians and G-Force while library fare includes Pirates of the Caribbean and The Chronicles of Narnia.

Star Movies on Demand will include 30 movies available to watch at any time, with movies changing each month.

Meanwhile, Star Movies HD simulcasts Star Movies in high definition, for which subscribers will need to take one of StarHub’s two high definition set-tops.

Service revenue up 4.8%, Net profit up 1.5%

SINGAPORE, 15 July 2010 - M1 Limited today announced its unaudited group financial results for the six months ended 30 June 2010.
Operating revenue at S$472.1 million increased 25.3% year on year due to higher service revenue and handset sales. Service revenue rose 4.8% to S$364.0 million, benefiting from an enlarged customer base. EBITDA at S$156.7 million was up 1.0%. Net profit after tax at S$80.1 million was 1.5% higher. For 2Q10, net profit at S$40.8 million was 10.0% higher year on year.
M1’s total customer base was 1.849 million as at 30 June 2010. For 2Q10, M1 added 53,000 customers, of which 21,000 were postpaid customers and 32,000 were prepaid customers.
Non-voice services contributed 30.8% of service revenue, up from 25.1% a year ago, driven by growth in the mobile broadband and smartphone customer base.
M1’s Board of Directors has declared an interim dividend of 6.3 cents per share.
Ms Karen Kooi, M1’s Chief Executive Officer, said : “The impending launch of the new all fibre network will change the current competitive landscape for fixed services. M1 will capitalize on the opportunities presented to address both retail and corporate segments.”
“Based on the current outlook, net profit after tax for the year 2010 is likely to improve, compared to 2009,” she said.

SingTel and StarHub bring 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in 3D to Singapore viewers for the first time

Singapore, 9 July 2010 – SingTel and StarHub today announced that they will be showing the final match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ between Netherlands and Spain in 3D, in conjunction with partners Resorts World Singapore (RWS) and Marina Bay Sands (MBS) respectively.

The FIFA World Cup™ is the most widely-viewed sporting event in the world, and for the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup™, the tournament is broadcast using the next-generation technology 3D.

The screenings mark a milestone in the broadcasting of sport in Singapore and would place viewers here among the world's first to catch a FIFA World Cup™ match in 3D. Over a total of 1200 guests have been invited to the sessions, with SingTel and StarHub facilitating the broadcast at RWS and MBS, respectively.
