My mechanic says my injectors are dirty and need cleaning. What does this mean?

“Dirty” is a misnomer. Injectors rarely covered with earth. On the contrary, are usually clogged or restricted by the buildup of fuel varnish deposits. This reduces the amount of aerosol fuel injection, which can cause the engine to run lean and misfire, hesitate or stall.

A fuel injector is nothing more than the spray nozzle. With mechanical injectors, a spring-loaded valve allows fuel to flow the nozzle when line pressure exceeds the spring tension that keeps the valve closed. With electronic injectors, a solenoid valve spring pulls open or swivel ball valve when the injector is activated by the computer. This allows the fuel pressure in the fuel line to flow through the injector and the jet nozzle.

Injectors come in a variety of styles. In the early style Bosch injectors have a pivotal valve and are more prone to fouling. In 1989, General Motors introduced its new injectors “Multec” style have a conception of the ball valve and is said to be more resistant to fouling. Other injectors have a disc design of the valve which is also said to resist clogging.

The truth is that anyone can clog the nozzle. Injectors one is immune to such problems, but some are obviously better than others.

Problems can occur even with a slight buildup. Because the injector orifice is so small it does not take much crap to restrict fuel flow or change the shape of the jet. For good combustion, the injectors must produce a good cone-shaped mist of fuel vapor. Wear or deposits in the nozzle can create “streamers” of liquid fuel that vaporize and burn poorly. This, in turn, may cause doubts, emissions and performance problems.

Injector cleaning
The remedy for a set of blocked injectors is cleaning – or replacement if they are so badly clogged to respond to clean. The injectors are expensive to replace. New domestic injectors sell for $ 60 to $ 100 each, with the import injectors fetching $ 125 new $ 175.Injectors must be replaced as a last resort.

If the nozzles are clogged, they can be cleaned with pressurized solvent, or removed to clean the vehicle. There are also additives in the fuel tank designed to clean the clogged nozzles, but the cleaning is minimal. So save your money and put it in a professional cleaning.

There are do it yourself car in the injection pressure cleaning kits that are similar to the use of professional teams. But some teams may be difficult or dangerous. Our advice is to let a professional do it.

On cars injector cleaning involves feeding solvent under pressure in the fuel injector rail or supply line. Concentrated solvent passes through the injectors and loosens and removes accumulated varnish deposits. The results are generally good, and make a noticeable difference in idle smoothness, emissions and fuel economy.

If the nozzles are clogged and do not respond really well for cleaning cars, cleaning the vehicle using special equipment for cleaning fuel injection would be the next logical choice. Some of this equipment is designed to “reverse” flush the injectors so any debris that is trapped inside the injector or above entry screen will also be deleted. Outside the car cleaning also allows a mechanic to observe the jet injectors to ensure that no banners or problems. Outside the car cleaning is more expensive because of the work required to remove the injectors, but the results are better.

Keep nozzles
The best way to reduce or eliminate the need for cleaning of the injector is to use a quality brand of gasoline that contains sufficient detergent to prevent the accumulation of varnish. Most species have now registered enough detergent to do this. In general, premium grades usually contain a slightly higher concentration of cleaners.

You can also use fuel tank additives to keep the injectors clean. These products are not really necessary if you use the essence of quality. But if you buy the cheapest gas can be found, with an additive might be good insurance.

GM will need a big push to sell 10,000 Volts this year

When General Motors introduced the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid last December, aims to not only sell a car, but a new corporate image as a leading high-tech. The technology has been proven, many owners report goes 100 miles per gallon of gasoline, and no major flaws have emerged. The problem for GM is that there are far fewer owners Volt than I expected.

GM announced today that it sold in October 1108 volts, the best month to date, total sales increased from 2011 to 5003. This is still well below the target of 10,000 volts GM delivered to buyers in the U.S. this year, GM and challenges long-term plan to increase production to 60,000 volts in 2012. To achieve its goal, GM will double its sales in November volts, and add another 50% in December – a quick ramp for a car with a sticker price about $ 40,000 before a $ 7,500 tax credit and other federal incentives from the state.

GM officials had said in previous months were still online store volts after the closure of the factory in Detroit for updates this summer, most buyers of the Volt should come from California and The Costa. However, online research indicates that there is now a healthy group of volts available for sale throughout the country.

Meanwhile, Nissan has been no delay to its all-electric Leaf, the Volt beyond two to one, although the blade is limited in scope and some owners have been taken after the execution of power unexpectedly . GM Volt was the combination of an electric motor and gas engine to allay concerns about anxiety range of electric vehicles, although the technology was more expensive. Until now, consumers are on the side of their portfolios rather than their fears.

It is becoming to say because of changes in the design of tires and suspension. But in general, ”normal” wear is when the tread wears evenly across the surface of the tire. The edges and center sections of the band to wear at a rate approximately equal, and no signs of irregular wear, address, cup-shaped with feathers or grow in the tread.

In addition, two front and two rear wheels are about the same speed. Front and rear tiresusually wear at different rates depending on what is driving. The front tires on front wheel drive cars and vans, for example, lead to a rate much faster than the rear tires. The rear tires on the drive performance at the back in the cars or vehicles driven by someone with aheavy foot also tend to wear out much faster than the front. But what is ”normal” for the wayyou drive the vehicle.

The wear heavy shoulder on the tires is also considered ”normal” if a vehicle is driven hardin corners. The rapid wear of the shoulder on the front tires is ”normal” in some trucks and vans because of the steering geometry of the vehicle. The front wheels are supposed to”feet” with respect to each other when they turned to one side to compensate for the different way in and out of the wheels continue to turn a corner. Some vehicles are better designed than others to achieve this goal. Those who are not tend to produce moreshoulder wear than those that do. Rotating your tires frequently (every 8,000 miles or less)can help balance this type of tire.

Abnormal Wear
Wear “abnormal” tire is any other type of wear that results from a problem in the suspension or alignment, tire failure internally, or driving with low tire pressure or over-inflated.

The abnormal wear would be the inner or outer edge or shoulder of the tire shows extreme wear, but the rest of the band shows little wear. This is called “tilt” the use and results of the wheels on or off (it should be up and rolling on the road). Use the rope can be caused by a misalignment of suspension, a strut bent, tower leg mislocated (often the result of unrepaired collision damage), weak or broken spring, a bent shaft or bushings or unconscious control damaged arm.

The suspension should be inspected for worn or damaged, and the alignment is performed to determine what needs to be fixed to correct the problem.

If the band is developing a model wearing feathers or direction, where the group feels soft to get your hands on it one way, but it feels rough when rubbed in the opposite direction, which has a ”foot” wear problem. Toe refers to the parallelism between the wheels, such as rolling on the road. If the wheels are pointed or with respect to the other, the tread is zero and to develop a model to wear feathers. This may be due to misalignment of the foot, use the tight ends, using crazy weapons, the transmission arm bent or curved direction towards. As with the lead rope, the suspension should be inspected and checked the alignment to determine what is causing the problem.

A “glass” model of the tire can be caused by a wheel and a tire that is out of balance or weak shock absorbers or legs. This type of wear is that the wheel bounces up and down as it rolls down the road. The remedy here is that the balance or replacement of shock absorbers or legs.

If the center of the tread is worn on the shoulders, may be the result of excessive inflation. That is putting too much air in the tires, which makes it excel in the center and uneven wear. They refer to the inflation pressure recommended in your owner’s manual or tire label in the glove compartment or door jamb.

If the shoulders of the tires will wear more than the center, it may mean that the tire does not have enough air in it. Under-inflation of changes in the weight carried by the tire on the edge of the tread causing the shoulders to more wear than the center. As with hyperinflation, refer to the recommended inflation pressure for your vehicle.

NOTE: As mentioned earlier wear, heavy shoulders can also be caused by driving difficult, especially on winding roads or curves. In this case, said nothing wrong, and the only correction that is needed is a change in driving habits.

Some performance tires low profile tend to develop what is called pattern “heel and toe” wear if it is rotated every 5000 miles 8.000. This is caused by the tread and flexible design of the tire belt. If this type of tire wear pattern is not rotated, the sculpture can develop a washboard wear causing annoying vibrations and / or noise at speeds above 40 mph.Once the wear pattern is established, it may be too late to reverse the rotation of the tires.Replacement tires (and change the brand and design that is less “special”) may be the only way to cure this problem of wear.

Most manufacturers recommend changing the oil once a year or every 7,500 miles in passenger car and light truck gasoline engines. For diesel and turbo petrol engines, the usual recommendation is every 3,000 miles or six months.

If you read the fine print, however, to discover once a year, 7,500 mile oil change is for vehicles driven under ideal circumstances. What most of us regard as “normal” driving is actually “severe service” driving. This includes frequent trips of short duration (less than 10 miles, especially in cold weather), stop-and-go city traffic driving, driving in dusty conditions (gravel roads, etc.), and conduct sustained high speeds during hot weather. For this type of conduct, which is actually “severe service: driving, the recommendation is to change the oil every 3000 miles or six months.

For maximum protection, most oil companies say to change the oil every 3000 miles or three to six months, regardless of what type of driving you do.

A new engine with little or no likelihood that will happen in 7500 miles oil changes. However, as an engine accumulates miles, blowby increases. The more unburned fuel tanks in the crankcase, the oil dilution. This causes the oil to decompose. So if the oil is not changed frequently, you end up with accelerated wear and all the engine problems that come with it (loss of performance and fuel economy and increased emissions and oil consumption).

Oil Analysis
Truck fleets often monitor the status of the oil in their vehicles by having samples analyzed periodically. Oil samples are sent to a laboratory that analyzes the viscosity of the oil and acid content. Oil is burned in a device called a spectrometer that reveals various impurities in the oil. From all this, a detailed report is generated that reveals the true condition of the oil.

Oil analysis is a great idea for fleets and trucks that have a lot of oil. But most consumers find it difficult to justify the expense. After analyzing an oil sample usually costs $ 12 and $ 20 for lab work and report. Most quick lube shops charge $ 16.95 to $ 19.95 for an oil change. So why spend your money on a report that will probably tell you that the oil needs changing? Just change the oil every 3000 miles and not worry about it.

Regular oil changes for preventative maintenance are cheap insurance against engine wear, and still save money over time if you keep a car for more than three or four years. It is very rare to see an engine that has been well maintained with oil changes develop major influence, ring, cam or valve problems under 100,000 miles.

What happens to the oil filter?
To reduce cost of ownership and maintenance of vehicles, car manufacturers many say the oil filter should be replaced every oil change. Most mechanics will tell you it’s a false economy.

Oil filters on most of today’s engines have been reduced to save weight, cost and space. The “standard” filter-fourth the size that was common in most engines have been replaced by a pint-size (or less) of the filter. You do not take a genius to realize that a small filter has less total filtering capacity. However, the filters need to be unsuitable for an oil change interval of 3000 miles – but may lack the capacity long before the second oil change at 6,000 or 15,000 miles.

Replacing the oil filter every time you change the oil, therefore, is highly recommended.

Main driver of online protection against abrasion and premature wear it causes is the oil filter. The work of the filter is to remove solid contaminants such as dust, coal, oil and metal particles before they can damage the bearings, the journal and cylinder wall surfaces in the engine. Dirt and other contaminants, the filter can trap and retain the best.

In today’s engines, all the oil is collected by the oil pump is routed through the filter before going to the crankshaft bearings, cam bearings and Valvetrain. This is called “full flow” filtration. It is an effective way to remove contaminants and ensures that the filtered oil is supplied to the motor. Over time, however, dirt and debris trapped by the filter begins to clog the flow of oil. The filter must be changed before this point, so that the filter should be replaced when changing the oil.

If you wait too long to change the filter, there is a danger that could be connected. To prevent this from causing a catastrophic engine failure due to loss of lubrication, oil filters are equipped with a safety device called a “bypass”. When the pressure drop across the filter exceeds a predetermined value (which varies depending on the application of the engine), the bypass valve opens and the oil can continue to feed the engine. But this allows unfiltered oil into the engine. All contaminants that end up in the crankcase is pumped through the engine and accelerate wear.

Replacement Filter
If you do your own oil change, make sure you have the correct filter for your engine. Follow the filter manufacturer lists in its catalog. Many filters have the same on the outside have different internal valves. Many overhead cam engines, for example, require a “backflow prevention” valve in the filter to keep oil out of the filter when the engine is off. This allows oil pressure to achieve faster parts critical engine when the engine is restarted. The filters are mounted on the side of the engine usually require anti-drainback valve.

ATTENTION: The son of a cartridge filter must be the diameter and thread (SAE or metric) for your engine. If you install a filter with SAE son of an engine that requires metric threads (or vice versa), can damage the son holding the oil filter in place. Problems of overlap may also allow the filter to work loose, causing a sudden loss of oil pressure can ruin your engine!

Some people say it is better to change the oil when the oil is hot (for example, just after driving), while others say it makes no difference. CAUTION: Hot oil is thinner and runs faster, but it can also burn if you’re not careful. In any case, avoid unnecessary contact with oil because oil is a carcinogen (causes cancer).

Change the oil cold can take a little longer because the oil will drain more slowly the engine, but there is no danger of burning. In addition, most of the oil have been drained down into the sump when the engine has sat for a period of time, which means it is really going to be a bit of oil used in the engine if you try leaks still warm.

Used motor oil must be disposed of properly. The Agency of Environmental Protection does not consider used oil a hazardous chemical, but it can contaminate groundwater and contains traces of lead. The best way to dispose of the used motor oil is to take it to a service station, quick lube shop, parts store and other facilities for recycling. Your used oil or other lubricants regenerated or petroleum products or fuel.

Do not dispose of used motor oil in the ground in a drain, sewer or a place in the trash. Many landfills do not accept used motor oil, even if in a sealed container, because eventually seep into the ground. If you can not find an environmentally acceptable way to dispose of things, maybe you should not change their own oil. Service facilities that do oil changes have storage tanks and recycling programs to dispose of the oil used.

If you’re like many people feeling the crunch, their inclination is to obtain the minimum insurance coverage required by law in your state. This is a good place to start, even if the minimum can not completely protect – or – if you make a claim. We recommend that you get more than the minimum coverage, unless you drive a beater and have no assets to protect.

Each state of the nation except New Hampshire and Wisconsin, require you to have liability insurance, and mandatory coverage varies by state.

In the chart below, the minimum limits of liability shall read as follows (in thousands):

Liability for injury to a person in an accident
Injury liability for all persons injured in an accident
Liability for property damage accident
For Alabama, the minimum is $ 25 000 for liability bodily harm to a person, $ 50,000 bodily injury liability for all responsible persons and property damage $ 25 000.

Protection against personal injury (PIP) or medical expenses (MedPay) in some states to pay their own medical expenses, wages and other costs may arise when you are injured in an accident. Usually, about 80 percent of their losses, and pays a death benefit. PIP is required: Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and the Utah.

Some states also require you to buy car insurance to cover their medical expenses, pain and suffering and loss, in some states, damage to the car if the other driver is at fault and is uninsured or under- insured. See the table below to see if this applies to you.

Although each state has a minimum (or no) requirements for liability for personal injury, is likely to be in your interest to purchase higher limits. If someone is injured and who is at fault, the minimum liability insurance may not cover their medical expenses in this case, your lawyer will most likely come after your assets. It is generally recommended that you purchase 100/300 limits of bodily injury liability. On the other hand, if your property does not matter, you do not have much to worry about them, so that the minimum requirements that you can actually go and save money so badly needs .

In addition to various forms of liability insurance, there is no collision and comprehensive coverage auto insurance to consider. Collision covers damage to the insured vehicle as a result of running in any way or in another car, a fire hydrant or a streetlight. Comprehensive coverage takes care of your vehicle in case of theft, fire, falling objects, explosion or other unforeseen problems.

Collision and comprehensive coverage is needed in most leases, and are essential if you own a luxury car. If you’re driving an old beat-up, on the other hand, the amount of the premium and the deductible approach or exceed the value of your vehicle, you may want to consider doing without this coverage.

Before purchasing any type of auto insurance coverage, be sure to study your other insurance policies that do not end up paying for something that is not necessary. If you have an insurance plan decent health can get away with buying the bare minimum of protection coverage for bodily injury, or not at all if your state doesn ¿t require. However, you could end up paying a co-payment and deductible that would not apply if you or PIP MedPay.

Protection against uninsured motorists or underinsured could also be a good buy, even if you have full medical coverage, which can pay for pain and suffering damages. If you belong to an organization that provides roadside assistance is not necessary to purchase by your insurer. The same applies to the mechanical breakdown insurance if you own a new vehicle financed or leased is still under warranty.

It’s easy to resent the money spent on insurance. Note that auto insurance is likely to come to your rescue at some point, it is necessary to purchase a policy that pays off. Knowing what type of coverage you should have and what type of additional coverage fits your lifestyle. So if there are problems, you are ready.

If you lease a car, you still need to buy your own auto insurance policy. The auto dealer or bank that is financing the car will require you to buy collision and comprehensive coverage. You’ll need to buy these coverages in addition to the others that may be mandatory in your state, such as auto liability insurance.

• Collision covers the damage to the car from an accident with another automobile or object.

• Comprehensive covers a loss that is caused by something other than a collision with another car or object, such as a fire or theft or collision with a deer.

The leasing company may also require “gap” insurance. This refers to the fact that if you have an accident and your leased car is damaged beyond repair or “totaled,” there’s likely to be a difference between the amount that you still owe the auto dealer and the check you’ll get from your insurance company. That’s because the insurance company’s check is based on the car’s actual cash value which takes into account depreciation. The difference between the two amounts is known as the “gap.”

On a leased car, the cost of gap insurance is generally rolled into the lease payments. You don’t actually buy a gap policy. Generally, the auto dealer buys a master policy from an insurance company to cover all the cars it leases and charges you for a “gap waiver.” This means that if your leased car is totaled, you won’t have to pay the dealer the gap amount. Check with the auto dealer when leasing your car.

If you have an auto loan rather than a lease, you may want to buy gap insurance to protect yourself from having to come up with the gap amount if your car is totaled before you’ve finished paying for it. Ask your insurance agent about gap insurance or search the Internet. Gap insurance may not be available in some states.

Your auto policy may include six coverages. Each cover is sold separately.

1. Bodily injury liability
This warranty applies to injuries you, the designated driver or policyholder, cause to others. You and family members included in the policy are also covered when driving someone else’s car with permission.

It is very important to have adequate liability insurance, because if you are involved in a serious accident can be sued for a large sum of money. Definitely consider buying more than the minimum required by the state to protect assets such as your home and savings.

2. Medical payments or personal injury protection (PIP)
This warranty covers the treatment of injuries to the driver and passengers of the insured vehicle. In its broad sense, PIP can cover medical expenses, lost wages and the cost of replacing services normally performed by someone injured in an automobile accident. It may also cover funeral costs.

3. Liability for damage
This coverage pays for damage you (or someone driving the car with your permission) may cause to property. Generally, this means damage to someone else’s car, but also damage to lamp posts, telephone poles, fences, buildings or other structures your car hit.

4. Collision
This warranty covers damage to your vehicle resulting from a collision with another vehicle, object or as a result of return. It also covers damage caused by potholes. Collision insurance is usually sold with a deductible of $ 250 to $ 1,000 more than the deductible, the lower the premium. Even if you are responsible for the accident, collision coverage will reimburse the costs of repairing your car, minus the deductible. If you are not at fault, your insurance company may seek to recover the amount you paid the insurance company of the other driver. If successful, also be reimbursed for the deductible.

5. Complete
This guarantee will reimburse you for any loss due to theft or damage caused by something other than a collision with another vehicle or object, such as fire, falling objects, missiles, explosion, earthquake, hurricanes, hail, flood, vandalism, riot, or contact with animals such as birds or deer.

Full insurance is sold at $ 100 to $ 300 deductible, but you can opt for a higher deductible as a way to reduce your premium.

Full insurance will also reimburse you if your windshield is cracked or broken. Some companies offer glass coverage with or without excess.

6. Cover uninsured or underinsured
This coverage will reimburse you, a family member or a designated driver if one of you is defeated by an uninsured motorist or hit and run.

The coverage of underinsured motorist coverage comes into play when an at-fault driver has insufficient insurance to pay for your total loss. This coverage also protects you if you are beaten like a pedestrian.

Green cars are not usually turn heads in eco-obsessed San Francisco, where hybrids are common and even $ 100 000 electric Tesla Roadsters are not uncommon. But when a trio of Mercedes-Benz F CELL recently controlled the streets of the city, hands and horns honked agitated. For it is not often that you catch a glimpse of the future practical.

Mercedes has brought these four doors, the Class B machines to the city by the bay in one day 125, January to June, 18,000-mile trek to mark the World 125th anniversary of the invention of Carl Benz the automobile. In many ways, these cars are as radical as when a bond Benz introduced its motorized vehicle. Although the focus of alt-fuel most of the companies of the automobile is the gas-electric and pure electric motors, some companies remain committed to the vehicle is called fuel cells.

Simply put: A fuel cell car carrying tanks full of hydrogen, which when exposed to oxygen for electricity that is stored in the lithium-ion batteries. The main issue is plain water.Mercedes F CELL can get about 400 kilometers (250 miles) per four kg hydrogen tank, which means about a $ 48 fill-up to a deposit of hydrogen in Europe. The potential F CELL let an engineer in particular almost giddy.

“Think about it, it’s a car with a range of 250 miles, a time of three minutes of supply, with all security and reliability,” says Christian Mohrdieck, head of Daimler’s fuel cell development program and the battery. ”There are only two obstacles. Infrastructure and costs. But these two things can be worked.”

The good news? Americans can drive the CELL F today. The bad news? Not that many of us. Mercedes-Benz 200 car rental worldwide, three have already been delivered to drivers in Southern California, currently one of the few places stateside reliable refueling of hydrogen. The rental program costs $ 849 per month, full inclusion, and anyone interested should apply to www.mbusa.com / FCEL.

Mohrdieck said he and his engineers are working to make fuel cells smaller, and moving the position of a sub-floor to “the place that is occupied by a four-cylinder diesel engine,” which in turn releases even more passenger room. He felt that the ideal price point for a cell F would be “around which you could pay for a diesel hybrid vehicle, which I think we could achieve if we could build them in sufficient volume.”

This does not mean Mercedes-Benz is planning a future hydrogen fleet. Mohrdieck says the company still plans to maintain “a wide variety of powertrain technologies” and that in 10 years, perhaps 1 percent of sales of Mercedes vehicles could be fuel cell.

So what about the real limiting factor: the hydrogen stations? ”Look,” said Mohrdieck, “100 years ago the cars were new things that people would go to pharmacies to get gas. This is where we are now on hydrogen, but we work with companies like (based in Munich) The Linde Group (a global leader in the production of specialty gases) to see that the filling of these cars is becoming easier and easier. ”

Drive a F CELL through the streets of San Francisco makes you want to revolution of hydrogen to begin with. The spacious Class B scoots about his business with a confident car electric hum. While the wood and leather interior avoids the high quality fabric and plastic (weight gain is the name of this game), the car displays a common structural integrity to the products of three-pointed star. Reads single dash monitor consumption of hydrogen in place of a speedometer is a dial that goes from green to white to red. In the red, you are burning hydrogen in a hurry, while the deep green means you are actually recover electrical energy through regenerative braking.

But the real breakthrough of the cell F is that you can ignore all these inputs and be satisfied that you were just zipping around town in the family machine, your impression is that the flow of occasional runoff of water in your exhaust pipe.

Step 1: Beginners
When it comes to auto insurance, you want to be adequately covered if you have an accident, but will not pay more than necessary. So how can you navigate through this dark matter?
Do you keep saying there is money to be saved. How? Hundreds, even thousands per year. For example, one of our editors wrote all your insurance information in a comparativeinsurance service. The quotes (for basic coverage on two old cars) ranged between $1006 to 1807 dollars - a difference of $ 801 per year. If you’re currently dumping thousandsinto the coffers of your insurance company due to a pair of tickets, an accident or aquestionable credit rating, shopping your policy against others may be worth the effort.

Look at it this way - you can convert the money you save on the purchase of something youhave long desired. They argue that the goal in mind.

Step 2: How do you need coverage?
To find the right car insurance, start by determining the amount of coverage you need. This varies from state to state. So take a moment to find out what coverage is required where you live. Make a list of different types of coverage and then return for the next step.

Now that you know what it takes, you can decide what you need and more. Some people are very cautious. They base their lives on worst case scenarios. Insurance companies love these people. This is because insurance companies know what their chances of being in an accident, and how likely it is that your car is damaged or stolen. The information the insurance company has collected over previous decades is crunched into “actuarial tables” that give insurance adjusters a quick look at the probability of any event.

So how should you buy a minimum insurance beyond your state?

Experts recommend that if you have many assets, you must obtain liability insurance for your protection. For example, if you buy $ 50 000 liability insurance for bodily injury, but $ 100 000 in assets, attorneys could go after their treasure in the case of an accident where you are at fault and the other medical bills part exceeds $ 50 000.

General recommendations for liability limits are $ 50,000 bodily injury liability for one person injured in an accident, $ 100 000 for all persons injured in an accident and liability insurance $ 25,000 property damage (ie, 50 / 100/25), as half the cars on the road are more than $ 20,000. Again, however, that your financial situation be your guide. If you are not active, do not buy excess coverage.

Another issue to consider is that the limits of any uninsured motorist coverage and / or underinsured you purchase can not exceed the limits of liability coverage. Such coverage, he says, can be valuable because it covers loss of income if you are unemployed for several months after being injured in a serious accident.

Your driving habits may also be a consideration. If your past is filled with crumpled wings, if you have a lead foot or a long walk on a treacherous winding road, then you should get a more complete coverage. Note that you do not have to buy collision and comprehensive coverage. If your vehicle is older, if you have a good driving record, and if there is a low probability to be reached in an accident, but a high probability of having it stolen, you could buy the collision, but not complete.

Step 3: Check your driving record and current insurance policy
Before buying insurance, you should check the following: the status of your driving record, your current coverage and the premiums you pay.

You need to know how many entries we have had recently. But time plays tricks and our memories repress painful incidents. If you do not remember how long that speeding has been placed in his file, check with your state’s DMV. If your record will soon improve, and the points you earned will finally disappear, wait until that happens before you get quotes.Nothing raises the price of insurance as a poor driving record.

Also, you should contact your car insurance company or a recent bill. Consider the amount of coverage you have and what you pay for it. Please note that monthly and annual cost of insurance because many of your appointments will be provided in both directions. Now you have a figure in mind to try to beat.

Step 4: Solicit competitive quotes
Now that you have taken several practical and philosophical decisions, it’s time to start shopping. To begin with, leaving aside an hour for this task. Bring all your documents – your current insurance policy number, driver’s license and vehicle registration. Drinking too much coffee. Do you have a phone at your side. And, of course, the power of your computer.

Start with the online services. If you go to InsWeb.com or other insurance quote sites online, you can enter information and a list of comparative quotes. These forms take about 15 minutes. If this bothers you, just remember how much you can save and use the money to buy something good for you. If the purchase process takes two hours to complete and you save $ 800, you are actually earning $ 400 per hour.

Some things to consider: 1) When using the quote sites, you can not get a budget. Some companies may contact you later by e-mail, and some that are not “direct providers” may put you in touch with a local agent, with an estimated budget for you. (A “direct provider” as Geico, sells an insurance policy to you directly, other companies like State Farm sell insurance through local agents, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each more ..) 2) It is not easy to get quotes from these sites in all states – if you live in New Jersey, for example, is likely to be found quickly pick up the phone, since most insurers in this state are not currently provide online quote.

You can also try to get quotes from several insurance companies listed on the website Edmunds.com – Liberty Mutual, Geico, or Progressive. These forms take about 10 minutes each to complete.

Step 5: Record and compare offers
While you are looking for companies to take notes on a separate computer file or on a sheet of paper divided into categories. This will avoid duplication of efforts. When you visit the various sites online insurance, you should take note of several things:

Annual and monthly rates for different types of coverage – make sure to keep the coverage limits the same way that you can make “apples to apples” comparisons
An 800 number to call for questions that can not meet online
The policy of insurance payment (When your payment? What if payment is late?)
The discounts offered by the insurance company about you
The insurance company says its share of the State Department of Insurance website (see below)
Insurance Company AM Best and Standard & Poors rating (see below)

Step 6: Work phone
Once you’ve exhausted your options online, it’s time to work the phones. Companies that have not been able to get a quote online should be contacted. Sometimes this process verbally can actually go faster than the Internet version, provided you have all the information on your driver’s license and vehicle registration close at issue. When you get an appointment, be sure to confirm the price. In addition, we ask you to fax or email the quote to you as a record.

Step 7: Look for discounts
While talking to telemarketers insurance, be sure to explore all options for discounts.Insurance companies offer discounts for good driving record, good credit score, safety equipment (eg, anti-lock brakes), certain occupations or professional affiliations and more. For further guidance in this area, see “How to save money on car insurance.”

Step 8: Selecting the Right Insurance
You now have most of the information in front of you that you need to make a decision. However, there is more to consider. You can clearly see that the company is cheaper, but when you need it to cover a loss, what kind of work they do? In other words, what is the insurance company the most reliable?

Below, we provide a number of questions to guide their thinking and help you decide:

1) Visit your state department of insurance and check complaints and ratios based on comparative surveys on prices.
2) Contact your local store or dealer you trust and ask which insurance companies they recommend.
3) Consider contacting an insurance agent for additional information about a particular company.
4) Take a look at the financial strength rating of an insurance company by referring to the AM and the Standard & Poor’s highest rating.
5) Search on surveys by JD Power and Associates customer satisfaction review of auto insurance companies.

Step 9: Check the policy before signing
So you’ve done your research and you are planning a business. Before signing, however, read the policy. In addition to verifying that contains the coverage you want, there are two you should look for clauses in the contract:

1) Retain your right to sue. “Find out if you are giving up your right to go to court and will be forced into arbitration if there is a disagreement [between you and the insurance company],” one expert advised. “You’re much better off if you don’t give up this right…. It makes it easier for [insurers] to take advantage of you.” If you find a clause to this effect, all isn’t necessarily lost. “At least in theory, a contract is a mutual agreement, so you should be able to cross out that line in the policy,” he said. If the company won’t agree to the policy sans clause, then you should probably take your business elsewhere.

2) Avoid aftermarket parts requirements. If an insurance company has written in the policy that “new factory,” “like kind and quality” or “aftermarket parts” may be used for body shop repairs, go to another company, one expert advised. If you own a relatively new car that you plan to keep for a while, you will probably be much happier if you spend a little more time researching companies on the front end rather than try to fight the company when you have a claim.

Step 10: Cancel your old policy
After setting the policy you want with the company you choose, you have to do two things. The first is to cancel coverage with your insurance company existing. Second, if your state requires you to carry proof of insurance, make sure it in your bag or glove compartment of your car (some experts discourage this, however – if your car is stolen, the thief has allnecessary to demonstrate that the vehicle is to you).

Now there is one last thing to do: reward you with savings on car insurance every second.

Checklist
Determine the needs of insurance in your state.

Consider your own financial situation over the necessary insurance and consider buying more to protect their assets.

Check the status of your driving record – Do you have any outstanding tickets or points on your license?

Review your current coverage to determine the premiums they pay.

Receive offers on the jurisdiction of a secure website as InsWeb.com and YouDecide.com InsureOne.com.

Monitoring of telephone calls to insurance companies for additional information on the cover.

Ask for discounts that apply to you, as a multiple policy discount.

Assess the reliability of the insurance company you are considering visiting their insurance status over the Internet.

If you have chosen a new insurance company, remember to cancel your old policy.
