A newfangled wheel has begun rolling out of a need and struggle When Israeli farmer Gilad Wolf broke his pelvis in 2008, and turned his wheelchair into a workhorse.And thus came across the ever suffered pain of disabled which they had to suffer on bumpy and rocky surfaces when they attempt to their outdoor needs. He then began developing new designs better suited to off-road applications and ultimately took his concepts to the Rad-BioMed Technology Accelerator in Tel Aviv where it became a reality with name SoftWheel.

Rad-BioMed Technology Accelerator in collaboration with Ziv-Av Engineering Group, for about an period of three successful years had come up with a design what the company promises to be a “breakthrough technology that changes the perception of the wheel and its function.”

With a goal of remaining “smart and stylish,” the wheel is especially shock absorbent and capable of dampening the blows felt from obstacles and bumps in the road, replacing the complex suspension systems found today in most vehicles

This technology, the company explained, is rooted in an innovative suspension mechanism.
It’s not just about putting the suspension inside the wheel, it’s selective and symmetric

The “selective suspension” mechanism remains static on standard floors or pavements, but prompts a shift upon hitting an obstacle.

Upon hitting the bump, the wheel’s hub moves into action, extending or shrinking symmetrically as needed and dramatically reducing the shock transmitted and that’s a game changer innovation.

In traditional wheelchair designs up to 30 percent of expended energy is lost because they lack suspension, leaving only 70-80 percent of the energy put into the chair for propulsion. This creates uncomfortable rides and fatigued drivers.

And its compatible too. “We bought off-the-shelf bicycles and within 10 minutes we put SoftWheels on them; it was just plug and play,” says Barel.

Although the company is initially designing wheels for wheelchairs, city bikes and aircraft landing gear, the firm emphasizes that the technology is suitable for all forms of transportation vehicles.

By integrating the Soft- Wheel system into bikes, the company said that the riding experience will become much more efficient and generally perform better.

Although the technology is certainly applicable to cars, Barel said that entering the automobile industry requires between seven and 10 years of research and development.

The wheelchair and bike markets are much easier to penetrate, he said.

Having recently completed the development stage for its wheelchair wheel, the Acrobat, SoftWheel has just begun producing these wheels for sale.

Barel said he hopes that by winter or spring of 2015, the Fluent wheels for bicycles will also be ready, adding that development of the aircraft landing gear was underway.

While all research and development is being conducted in Israel, SoftWheel is marketing its products abroad, he said. The company has just entered its second stage of fund-raising.

Ooho : An Innovative Edible Water Bottle Free From Plastics

We have been using disposable plastic bottled water which has proved to be a convenient and portable for carrying drinking water. At the same instant it is also seriously harmful to our environment. The reason behind San Francisco banning plastic bottles. If plastics are banned then how would we be carrying water and drinking it? Three designers from London seem to have come up with an interesting and mind blowing design.

Ooho , a biodegradable membrane that is made from calcium chloride and brown algae to form a gel around water making it easy and safe way to carry drinking water.

While some has named it as an "edible water bottle," Ooho is actually more of a droplet. The three London-based design students Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez, Pierre Paslier and Guillaume Couche who developed this idea aimed to make a cheap, sustainable, portable and durable way to replace plastics, so they moved towards a very old culinary technique called "spherification."

The use of a double membrane is just to ensure that it is durable and also offers a way for a label to be placed in between the two membranes when the product is finally ready to hit the markets. Though Ooho is not ready for market it’s a very interesting thought of drinking water from Ooho.

All you have to do is put the whole Ooho into your mouth, as the container is edible. Alternatively you can poke a hole in the membrane and then just suck out the water.

When the company tested it, they did find that using this method means that water goes everywhere, so it does look like it needs some more work before release.

All things considered, Ooho is a pretty cool, though slightly absurd invention and a beginning of a new way to think about food packing

And Ooho not the only one onto this edible packaging idea, either. In the next month or so, Wikipearl will make its debut on the shelves of Whole Foods around Boston.

The design of these little balls was inspired by biological cells and they actually are supposed to be eaten like bon bons. For now, however, it's safe to say that products like Ooho and Wikipearl are a novelty. An intriguing novelty! But a novelty nonetheless

Local Motors Announces Its All New Drift Trike: VERRADO ELECTRIC

Drift Triking is one of the most rapidly growing sports around the world. Since originating in New Zealand in 2009, this sport of trike drifting has slowly but surely spread to hilly regions all around the globe. Now, Arizona-based Local Motors has developed an electric-powered drift trike dubbed Verrado, which aims to extend this form of recreation to residents in flatter parts of the globe ... or just make it easier to get back to the top of the hill.

MORE POWER = BIGGER DRIFT

A conventional drift trike could be described as an extreme tricycle for adults.
The front forks usually harbor a BMX wheel with either pedals or stunt pegs protruding from the axle, while two smaller go-kart wheels bring up the rear.
As the trike turns and the rider shifts his or her weight, sleeves fixed around the rear wheels, generally made from either PVC or polyethylene, create a loss of traction and set the drift in motion.

Looking to make trike drifting possible on flat ground, Local Motors’ engineers experimented with a hub motor and battery pack from one of Local Motors’ electric bicycle prototypes and produced the first iteration of an electric-powered drift trike.
It combines a BMX fork with a 20” heavy duty front wheel featuring an aluminum casting around the brushless hub motors, two rear karting wheels lined with PVC pipe, a strong disc brake and a powerful programmable electric motor.

The Verrado’s electric motor lets you to drift on flat surfaces like asphalt, allowing you to ride almost anywhere with complete control (with practice, of course!).

The Electric Verrado uses a Lithium Cobalt Manganese battery that’s easy to charge in about 3 hours. With a full charge, it will run for 45 minutes, or around 12 miles. Mileage and duration vary based on the amount of drifting you do.

The 5” steel rear wheels with 10” karting tires feature sturdy ⅞” thick PVC wheel sleeves making it easier than ever to drift, whether you’re on a flat surface or a hillside.

The high-quality disc brakes, combined with a motor that employs regenerative braking, give you the ability to stop you when you really need to. The brakes are durable, long-lasting, and make the Verrado one of the safest production drift trikes you can find. The front wheel features textured custom pegs for extra traction and stability.

A cushioned seat will make sure you stay comfortable, even when you ride your Verrado for an extended period of time. The steel chassis is made in the Local Motors Phoenix Microfactory and is powder coated in four different colors giving the Electric Verrado a professional finish.

THE VERRADO STORY :

On July 30, 2013, Local Motors Mechanical Engineer Matt Jackson posted a new project on the Local Motors website called “LM Drift Trike!”

The initial gravity trike was the first, followed by a 500W golden motor kit using two 5-cell lithium polymer batteries in series to prove the powered concept. Several test mules were built to determine the best wheelbase length and head angle, and to develop the removable axle solution.

The original, non-powered drift trike was given its first serious test in the neighborhood of Verrado, Arizona, and the Verrado Drift Trike was born.

After all this test verrado electric still facing problems which includes finalizing the axle attachment method, the battery bracket design, the rear wheel selection, the front peg design, the wire routing and the harness design.

PULL-CLEAN: A Smart Sanitising System To Get Handle On Infection

Hospitals are generally associated and committed in providing better treatment when illness or accident strikes Health care workers’ failure to clean their hands is the most important cause of hospital-based infections and now the inclusion of a smart door handle could help them to keep germs away too.

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention One in 25 patients acquires an infection during their stay in the hospital. Clean hands can help to solve the problem, but getting hospital workers to use sanitizer regularly have proven to be a toughest job all the time. Thanks to British design studio Agency of Design which has come up with a concept of PullClean, custom door handles that are able to dispense hand sanitizer and encourages people to clean their hands every time they use it.

The handle, PullClean, was developed by the British studio Agency of Design for Altitude Medical an health organization.. The aim, the designers explain, is to “make it so simple that sanitizing becomes habitual every time you open the door.”

Hospitals are already littered with sanitizer bottles and wall-mounted dispensers. But the problem isn’t that hospital workers avoid using them; it’s simply that they forget to.

The big insight with PullClean was to combine that sanitizing act with something hospital workers already do every day. and what could be the better idea than a door handle.

The design of the handle was carefully tuned to encourage use.“We wanted to make the interaction as simple as possible, trying to make it almost subconscious,” Gilbert says. “You’re already holding it, so you might as well use the other hand to dispense sanitizer.”

A clinical trial in a U.S. hospital saw the rate of sanitation rise from 22 percent to 77 percent after the prototype handle was installed.

Placement of sanitizers inside the door handle is a superb idea and a very clever one. The smart hardware is only part of the solution. but there is a chance that it can be ignored. However the smart door handles also come with built-in sensors and software that has the name of CountClean which links to a web application, letting administrators track the handle's use.

“Today and every day, more than 1/10^th of people with healthcare-associated infections will die during their hospital stay.” Clean hands won’t solve the problem completely, but building sanitation into the day-to-day work flow of hospital employees certainly can’t hurt.

It is thought that it could be used to encourage people to sanitize their hands in schools, libraries offices and any other location where there are public gatherings. In short the PullClean system aims to make people more consistent when it comes to getting rid of germs.

Pull Clean has decided to ship later this year with a price tag of $200.

Headway’s CEO, Sophie Willborn explains that the device “turns the whole helmet into an acoustic resonating body with outstanding audio quality.” A music and motorbike enthusiast herself, she realized that there was nothing on the market that enabled people to comfortably listen to music whilst wearing a helmet, hence Headway was born. “I was overwhelmed by the sound inside the helmet,” she says.

Frustrated with having to deal with awkward headphone cables and ear buds that become easily dislodged, she went about finding a solution. One of the ideas she tried was surface transduction and it proved to be surprisingly successful. "I was overwhelmed by the sound inside the helmet," she says.

After working with the Berlin Startup Academy, Willborn was able to develop protoypes until a final design resulted in a 3D-printed device that could communicate with a smartphone through Bluetooth “It’s like being in a sound box. The whole helmet is the acoustic resonance body so you can hear the music from everywhere around you. The best thing is, you can feel the bass. The whole helmet vibrates when you hear music with strong bass.”

The next step for Headway is to secure funding through crowd sourcing this April.A variety of issues were tackled during the development process, including what material to use, how long the battery should last, how the device should be attached to the helmet and what features the app should have. The name of the device was also changed from Rockatoo to Headway.
Despite these challenges, and only being at the development stage, Headway has already won several awards, including first prizes at Idea Camp and the Betahaus Festival Hardware Pitch.and if all goes to according to plan, then you can expect to see the wearable speaker later this year with a price tag of around $270

Glassdoor, a website that catalogs information about workplaces, published a list of the top 50 highest rated company CEOs, based on “ employee feedback ”. In 2013, Zuckerberg, Facebook's well-known CEO, topped the list with a 99% approval rating. He's been bumped down a few notches this year, but still managed to rank as one of the top ten tech company CEOs.

Other big names, including Jeff Bezos of Amazon and Marissa Mayer of Yahoo were noticeably absent (they were 13 and 14, respectively, and Mayer is the only woman to crack the top 50). There just isn't enough room at the top.

Here are the 10 tech CEOs that rule the list of 2014 thus far, according to Glassdoor.

1. Jeff Weiner — LinkedIn

Soaring in at the top overall spot with a 100% approval rating is LinkedIn's Jeff Weiner. He's been at the company since 2008, and received great reviews from former employees (who prefer to remain anonymous through Glassdooar).

“The CEO is what helps spread the culture. He emphasizes culture,” a LinkedIn associate web developer said.

LinkedIn is a business-oriented Social networking service. Founded in December 2002 and launched on May 5, 2003, it is mainly used for professional networking. In 2006, LinkedIn increased to 20 million viewers. As of June 2013, LinkedIn reports more than 259 million acquired users in more than 200 countries and territories.

2. Paul Jacobs — Qualcomm

On the overall company list, Jacobs actually ranked fourth, but was lifted to second place in the tech realm. He nabbed a 95% rating at Qualcomm, which makes wireless telecommunications products.

“Visionary leader, great technology portfolio and offers opportunities to work on many different projects," a Qualcomm senior learning and development specialist said.

Qualcomm Incorporated is an American global semiconductor company that designs, manufactures and markets digital wireless telecommunications products and services.

3. Brad Smith — Intuit

Smith placed sixth overall, but third on the tech list. Intuit's CEO since 2008, his employees at the software company give him a 94% approval.

“At the very top, Brad Smith and team are well-respected and keep things moving in the right direction,” an anonymous Intuit employee said.

Intuit Inc. is an American software company that develops financial and tax preparation software and related services for small businesses, accountants and individuals. It is incorporated in Delaware and headquartered in Mountain View, California.

4. Mark Zuckerberg — Facebook

In 2013, Zuckerberg was rated the top CEO overall, with a 99% approval rating. This year, the face of Facebook pulls in at fourth on the tech company list (ninth overall) with a 93% rating.

"Mark is an incredible leader who wants to make the world a better place, and I love doing work for a mission I care about," a Facebook analyst said.

“Larry wants us to keep the soul of a startup, even though we no longer are one," an anonymous Google software engineer said.

Benioff wears a lot of hats at Salesforce.com. He's the cloud computing company's co-founder, chairman and CEO. He ranked 12th overall, but sixth on the tech list, with a 93% approval rating.

“Marc is the best CEO in the business — different for sure — but the best," an anonymous Salesforce employee said.

Jerry Kennelly was lucky number 13 on the full list, but lands the seventh spot on the tech list. The CEO and chairman of Riverbed, an application performance company founded in 2002, landed a 93% approval rating.

“Jerry is a fantastic CEO with tons of enthusiasm and energy. Very personable and cares greatly about his company and people. Couldn't possibly be any nicer of a human being running a $1B company on this earth,” a Riverbed technology sales employee said.

Aros is a new in design,beautiful with it's looks and as well as smart with its features . a air conditioner that will appeal to home owners who are conscious with energy usage . This is said to be one of the most complicated product ever built by the Quirky company and they hope that it will be able to solve the problems and issues on the window A/C unit that haunts it , since it has arrived in the 1970s and been unchanged. This is about to change the way of air conditioning

This was the result of the partnership GE with Quirky more than a six months ago; this was a union of one of the youngest (Quirky ) and one of the oldest (GE ) consumer technology producers. While the team have produced many in this short span of time .including “connected” gadgets during their time together, this happens to be the first time that they have felt they have made an earnest product with Aros. The CEO of Quirky said that the product has been in the plans of the two companies ever since they got together.

He said “We want Quirky to be a company that makes invention accessible, not just cool kitchen gadgets and fun toys,” he says. “GE gives us the ability to take on these really complex inventions.”

As with all of the products to come from Quirky family , Aros was the brainchild of Dr. Garthen Leslie. He uploaded the idea to the forums of Quirky after noticing the A/C units on a hot summer’s day that were hanging on the sides of the buildings. He said that he was fed up of having to choose between a waste of energy or having to put up with the stuffy summer heat of the day.

Soon there after GE professionals caught the idea , who have been making air conditioners for more than 70 years, and were working on the concept idea. The project seemed to be on a very short schedule, which was unthinkable. Kevin Nolan from GE Appliances said “I thought the guys were crazy.” He went on to say that “We as a company are learning a lot about how we can be bolder and take more risks.” Typically a product such as Aros would take around one year to design, but today, which is less than six months, the idea has become a reality.

Surprisingly Aros comes with a low price tag at $300, as it is a product that says it reinvents a category. The price tag is similar to other A/C units on the market. Quirky along with GE built the conventional in-window unit that is able to cool a maximum of 350 square feet with 8,000 BTU which is approximately 0.6 tons capacity which is obtained from its unique design sucking hot air and cooling it instead cooling cool air as our conventional air conditioners . Along with this, Aros comes with some nice detailing. This includes upward airflow, three cooling and fan modes, front facing panelling that is sleek and fabric panels that insulate.

It is the built in software that make the air conditioner so unique and smart. This is linked up to a smart home app designed by Quirky and which can tether to the home Wi-Fi too. A smartphone can then be used as a remote control. The system can be switched on when you are on your way home and it can be used to switch the system off when you leave. The system will learn from your use and it will work out a schedule.

If you are a money minder then this could be the perfect system. One of the in-app features allows you to set a monthly budget for the energy bill. When that limit is coming close Aros will let you know so that there are no nasty surprises in store when the bill comes in at the end of the month. And it also suggests you with the best operating mode depending upon your energy usage and surrounding temperatures.

So it looks like the days of the lumbering dumb A/C units are over thanks to Aros from Quirky and GE. Kaufman said that this was just a taste of things to come. “You’re going to see less gadgets and doo-dads and more sophisticated products that are completely rethought categories.” He added . Torque or Turning Force:

Torque is the tendency of a force to rotate an object about an axis. Just as a force is a push or a pull, a torque can be thought of as a twist to an object.
Loosely speaking, torque is a measure of the turning force on an object
The magnitude of torque depends on three quantities: The force applied, the length of the lever arm connecting the axis to the point of force application, and the angle between the force vector and the lever arm.

Couple:

Two forces that are equal in magnitude but opposite in direction (and acting along parallel lines), thus creating the turning effect of a torque or moment.

Moment:

It is the amount of moving effect which is gained for action of turning force.

Stress:

The internal distribution of force per unit area (pressure) within a body reacting to applied forces which causes strain or deformation The amount of reactive force per unit area is called stress. e.g. Tensile Stress, Compressive Stress, Thermal Stress.

Strain:

If a force acts on a substance, then in that case if the substance would deform. Then the amount of deformation per unit length of that substance is called strain.

Spring:

It is one type of device which is being distorted under certain amount of load & also can also go to its original shapeafter the removal of that load.
Its function:
To store energy.
To absorb energy.
To control motion of two elements.

Stiffness:

Stiffness is the rigidity of an object — the extent to which it resists deformation in response to an applied force.
The complementary concept is flexibility or pliability: the more flexible an object is, the less stiff it is.

Specific Weight:

· Weight per unit volume of the fluid.

Specific Volume:

· Volume per unit mass of the fluid.

Specific Gravity:

· It is the ratio of specific weight of required substance to specific weight of pure water at 4 degree centigrade temperature.

Specific heat:

· The amount of heat required to increase 1 unit temperature of 1 unit mass.

Viscosity:

The property of a fluid that resists the force tending to cause the fluid to flow.
A liquid's viscosity depends on the size and shape of its particles and the attractions between the particles.
A fluid that has no resistance to shear stress is known as an ideal fluid or inviscid fluid.
Zero viscosity is observed only at very low temperatures, in superfluids. Otherwise all fluids have positive viscosity.
A liquid whose viscosity is less than that of water is sometimes known as a mobile liquid, while a substance with a viscosity substantially greater than water is called a viscous liquid.

Dynamic Viscosity:

The amount of resistance of one layer of fluid over other layer of fluid.

Kinematic Viscosity:

It is the ratio of dynamic viscosity to density.

Buoyancy:

When a body is immersed in a liquid, it is lifted up by a force equal to weight of liquid displaced by the body. The tendency of liquid to lift up an immersed body is buoyancy. The upward thrust of liquid to lift up the body is called buoyancy force.

Mach Number:

The ratio of the speed of a moving body to the speed of sound
Mach number varies by the composition of the surrounding medium and also by local conditions, especially temperature and pressure.

Fluid discharge/Fluid flow:

Quantity of fluid flowing per second.
(through a section of pipe/ through a section of channel)

where, V= velocity of fluid,A= cross-sectional area of pipe/channel

Hydraulic Machine:

Uses kinetic energy of fluid as a working medium
example :Turbine,Pump,Compressor etc.

Draft tube:

It attaches with reaction turbine . Its function is to reduce energy loss from reaction turbine & it also reduce pressure at outlet which is must blow the atmospheric pressure.

Thermodynamics:

The science concerned with the relations between heat and mechanical energy or work, and the conversion of one into the other.

Zeroth Law of Thermodynamics:

If two body are in thermal equilibrium with a third body then these two body are also in thermal equilibrium with each other.

First Law of Thermodynamic:

In a closed system, work deliver to the surrounding is directly proportional to the heat taken away from the surrounding.And also, In a closed system, work done on a system is directly proportional to the heat deliver to the surrounding.

Second Law of thermodynamic:

It is impossible to make a system or an engine which can change 100 percent input energy to 100 percent output

Entropy:

A Thermodynamic quantity representing the amount of energy in a system that is no longer available for doing mechanical work

ds = dq/T

where, ds = change of entropy, dq = change of heat, T = Temperature.
In adiabatic process, entropy can not change. Actually,lacking or mal-adroitness of tranfering energy of a system is entropy.

Calorific Value of fuel:

The amount of heat produced by the complete combustion of a material or fuel. Measured in units of energy per amount of material, e.g. kJ/kg.

Boiler/Steam Generator:

A closed vessel in which water is heated to make steam for powering turbines, supplying heat, etc.

Economiser:

It is a part of boiler. Its function is to heat feed water which is supplied to boiler.

Superheater:

A superheater is a device used to convert saturated steam or wet steam into dry steam used in steam engines or in processes, such as steam reforming.
There are three types of superheaters namely: radiant, convection, and separately fired.
A superheater can vary in size from a few tens of feet to several hundred feet.

Air-Preheater:

It is a part of boiler. Its funtion is to preheats the air to be supplied to furnace and it recover heat from exhaust gas.

Boler Draught:

It is an important term for boiler. It is the difference of pressure above and below the fire grate. This pressure difference have to maintain very carefully inside the bolier.
It actually maintaind the rate of steam generation. This depends on rate of fuel burning. Inside the boiler rate of fuel burning is maintained with rate of entry fresh air.
If proper amount of fresh air never entered into the boiler, then proper amount of fuel inside the boiler never be burnt. So, proper fresh air enters into the boiler only by maintaining boiler draught.

Nozzle:

A nozzle is a device designed to control the direction or characteristics of a fluid flow as it exits an enclosed chamber or pipe.
A nozzle is often a pipe or tube of varying cross sectional area, and it can be used to direct or modify the flow of a fluid.
Nozzles are frequently used to control the rate of flow, speed, direction, mass, shape, and/or the pressure of the stream that emerges from them.

Scavenging:

Scavenging is the process of pushing exhausted gas-charge out of the cylinder and drawing in a fresh draught of air or fuel/air mixture for the next cycle

Supercharging:

Actually, power output of engine depends on what amount of air enter into the engine through intake manifold. Amount of entry air if increased, then must be engine speed will increased. Amount of air will be increased by increasing inlet air density. The process of increasing inlet air density is supercharging.
The device which is used for supercharging is called supercharger.Supercharger is driven by a belt from engine crankshaft. It is installed in intake system.

Turbocharging:

Turbocharging is similar to the supercharging. But in that case tubocharger is installed in exhaust system whereas supercharger is installed in intake system.
The key difference between a turbocharger and a conventional supercharger is that the latter is mechanically driven from the engine, often from a belt connected to the crankshaft, whereas a turbocharger is driven by the engine's exhaust gas turbine
Compared to a mechanically-driven supercharger, turbochargers tend to be more efficient but less responsive. Twincharger refers to an engine which has both a supercharger and a turbocharger.

Governeor:

Its function is to regulate mean speed of engine when there are variation in the load.
If load increases on the engine, then engine's speed must decrease. In that case supply of working fluid have to increase. In the other way, if load decrease on the engine, then engine' speed must increase. In that case supply of working fluid have to decrease.Governor automatically, controls the supply of working fluid to the engine with varying load condition.

Flywheel:

A flywheel is a rotating mechanical device that is used to store rotational energy.
Its main function id to store energy in the time of working stroke or expansion stroke. And, it releases energy to the crankshaft in the time of suction stroke, compression stroke & exhaust stroke

Rating of fuel

S.I. Engine:

Octane number : Octane number indicates ability of fuel to resist knock.

C.I. Engine:

Cetane Number : Cetane number indicates ability of ignition of diesel fuel. That means, how much fast diesel fuel ignites .

Stoichiometric ratio:

It is the chemically correct air-fuel ratio by volume. By which theoretically sufficient oxygen will be supplied to burn all combustible elements in fuel completely.

Heat Transfer:

Heat transfer is a discipline of thermal engineering that concerns the generation, use, conversion, and exchange of thermal energy and heat between physical systems.

Thermal Conductivity:

It is the quantity of heat flows between two parts of solid material by conduction. In this case following consideration will be important fact-
Time------ 1 sec
Area of that solid material-------- 1 m²
Thickness of that solid material------ 1m
Temperature difference between two parts of that material------ 1k

Heat Exchanger:

A device for transferring the heat of one substance to another, as from the exhaust gases to the incoming air in a furnace.
The classic example of a heat exchanger is found in an internal combustion engine in which a circulating fluid known as engine coolant flows through radiator coils and air flows past the coils, which cools the coolant and heats the incoming air.
More examples : intercooler, preheater, condenser, boiler etc.

Refrigeration:

Refrigeration is a process in which work is done to move heat from one location to another

1 tonne of refrigeration:

It is amount of refrigeration effect or cooling effect which is produced by uniform melting of 1 tonne ice in 24 hours from or at 0 degree centigrade or freezing 1 tonne water in 24 hours from or at 0 degree centigrade.

Humidification:

The process of increasing the water vapour content of a gas.

Dehumidification:

It is the removal of moisture from the air without change dry bulb temperature.

Gear Train:

A system of interconnected gears
Some important features of gears and gear trains are: ⁕The ratio of the pitch circles of mating gears defines the speed ratio and the mechanical advantage of the gear set.

Heat Treatment:

Heat treatment involves the use of heating or chilling, normally to extreme temperatures, to achieve a desired result such as hardening or softening of a material.

Clearance:

It is the difference in size between mating parts. That means, in that case the outside dimension of the shaft is less than internal dimension of the hole.

Stiffness:

It is the ability to resist deformation.
Stiffness is the rigidity of an object — the extent to which it resists deformation in response to an applied force. The complementary concept is flexibility

Toughness:

It is the property to resist fracture.

Fatigue:

When a material is subjected to repeated stress below yield point stress, such type of failure is fatigue failure.

Nuclear Fission:

A nuclear reaction in which a massive nucleus splits into smaller nuclei with the simultaneous release of energy

Nuclear Fussion:

It is also a nuclear reaction by which one big nucleolus will produced by adding two small nucleolus.

It is the process of joining two similar or dissimilar metal by fusion.

Dyson's original Air Multiplier, released in 2009, was the first fan to use brand new blade-less technology.
Do we people know it ? No, that got some of its quiet reasons.
This revolutionary technology was Invented almost by chance and its totally different from our conventional fans we use in our daily life which chops the air with its high speed blades,this new technology sucks air Instead, airflow came from the base was amplified in a loop before being pushed outwards a concentrated area. With no blades chopping through air, and it is also said that this fan produced a smoother, quieter breeze but not actually it does.

Revolutionary as the product was, it didn't stand too long as the design as believed was not as quieter as it was promised . so the company had a hard time to redesign this and this as a major concern the designers had gone with many hurdles and finally produced a revolutionary new Air Multiplier which is promised to be 75% quieter than the first generation.

To get there, Dyson’s engineers deconstructed the original blade-less technology. In the process of silencing the design, they came across the principle of the Helmholtz cavity. It sounds new right? Actually it's very old principle

In a Helmholtz cavity, also called a Helmholtz resonator, sound gets reflected through hard, curved surfaces. The phenomenon explains why holding a seashell to your ear will produce a breathy, whirring sound, or why blowing air across a glass bottle top makes a hum. Noise is created through the Helmholtz resonator principle, but more importantly what I want to explain is noise can be meticulously controlled.

“It’s a classic way of addressing this sort of issue,” Baptiste tells Co.Design.

For this the engineers had carefully calculated and designed the new concept with a revolutionary design that mimic helmhots principle and making it quiter

As I mentioned you that this was not very well recognized as the price for this beautiful and 2^nd generation concept was very high for a middle class employee.
However ,this was an beautiful attempt as it was safety with no-blades and beautiful with its design and efficient with its technology and the thing that itz costlier will definitely screw this design

“Unlike metal, the composition of silk protein may be similar to bone composition,” says sources.
“Silk materials are extremely robust. They maintain structural stability under very high temperatures and withstand other extreme conditions, and they can be readily sterilized.” Says Mr.kaplan an associate of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC)
“One of the other big advantages of silk is that it can stabilize and deliver bioactive components, so that plates and screws made of silk could actually deliver antibiotics to prevent infection, pharmaceuticals to enhance bone re-growth and other therapeutics to support healing,” says again Mr.Kaplan.

This is not only on papers but has been its impact on practical issues as to test the new Devices, The investigators implanted a total of 28 silk-based screws in six laboratory rats. Insertion of screws was straightforward and assessments were then conducted at four weeks and eight weeks, post-implantation.
“No screws failed during implantation,” says Kaplan, explaining that because silk is slow to swell, the new devices maintained their mechanical integrity even when coming into contact with fluids and surrounding tissue during surgery.

However, It takes some years to be implemented on Humans so guys please be careful with your bones till it gets implemented fully and sources reveal it might be used in years around 2020.

NOKIA after having a long time to think has finally decided to include android as a part of nokia family.

And after a numerous rumors and leaks ,Nokia finally unveiled their first ever family of android smartphones at MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS (MWC) at Barcelona
Nokia presented Nokia X and Nokia X+ and Nokia XL as the part of their new android family ,are specially design to first time smartphone users

The Nokia X, are priced at € 89 (Rs 7,500),
Nokia X+, € 99 (Rs 8,500), and
and Nokia XL € 109 (Rs 9,300)
However, only Nokia X will be made available in India by March end this year and its Indian price will be revealed at its launch.

All the three smartphones under the X series are not like the previous Android smartphones instead they are heavily -customized to give a feel of windows phones .
The phones come with tile-based home screen like that of Windows Phone. having fastlane home screen resembling windows and a notification bar on top as Android had .
These phones are not inspiring Google play access or apps but have their pre-installed apps like Facebook,Skype,maps,plants v/s zombies..etc ,although you can download .apk files from other free apps markets

After having a long reviews from various sources and spending some time with all the three devices and here is out first impression about Nokia X and X+.

Nokia X and X+ smartphones are meant for first time smartpone users and not meant for Android loyalist. Both the phones have simple user interface and easy to navigate the only disappointment is the camera PART. The initial performance of the phones seems to be good.

In the budget category as compared to other phones Nokia X series of smartphones have a cool looking design with a splash of colors to choose from so that can choose the shell according to his taste. The Hennessey Venom GT has set a speed record after hitting 270.49 mph on the space shuttle’s landing strip. At that speed, former race driver Brian Smith was covering nearly 400 feet per second while shredding the previous record of 268.86 mph held by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport in the year 2010
Its a 7.0 liter LS7 Turbocharged V8 Twin Turbo V8 Engine producing 1244 hp, Corvette ZR-1 engine

Hennessey and Bugatti have been competing for years, with bragging the records going back and forth between their headquarters in Houston and Alsace, France. This latest round occurred on Valentine’s Day, when Hennessey’s crew and the independent speed recorders from Race-logic descended on the 3.2-mile landing strip at Cape Canaveral. By the end of the day, Smith the driver of Venom had made a GPS-verified run of 270.49 mph (435.31 km/hr).

Hennessey’s official page data indicates the car was still accelerating at 1 mph per second and Smith said he could go faster still “if we could run on an eight-mile oval.” That’s a dig at Bugatti, which set its record on Volkswagen’s test track in Germany.

How ever, Bugatti will remain its place in the book of Guinness world records reports said.
Even before Guinness started looking into the speed limiter issue, Hennessey announced the Venom GT had achieved 265.7 mph. That’s nice, Guinness said, but that number is unsanctioned and unofficial, so no record for you. All of this meant that the 256.14 mph benchmark set in 2007 by the SSC Ultimate Aero, another American super-car few people have ever heard of, stood.

It did not end with that Guinness disqualified the Veyron Super Sport and awarded the “world’s fastest” title to Bugatti in 2013. “A change to the speed limiter does not alter the fundamental design of the car or its engine,” Guinness said of its decision. The trophy went back to France, along with bragging rights. Hennessey could not let that go unchallenged.
Not satisfying with the title of " the quickest car "when it went shot from zero to 200 mph in 14.51 seconds–more than three seconds faster than the Koenigsegg Agera R and more than seven seconds faster than the Veyron Super Sport,Hennessey was fighting for the fastest car title too.

The title of fastest car is still not on the records as per the rules of the Guinness world records as the run should be tested on both directions,make it a more controversial issue .

We wanted to run in both directions, but the NASA guys wouldn't let us,” Hennessey said. “The morning was relatively calm, about a 3 mph quarter-crosswind. If we’d run in both directions, the result would have been pretty much the same.”

Even if Smith had made a second pass, Guinness almost certainly wouldn't have recognized it. Hennessey plans to build just 29 Venom GTs, one short of the number Guinness requires for “production” classification. But don’t bet against Hennessey building just one more, if only to thumb his nose at Bugatti with another run for the official record

This European Automaker with an eloquent sign shows their commitment towards Indian Market.where high-riding compact crossovers are the norm, and the Kwid is Renault’s attempt at getting up-and-coming younger buyers into the fold.

Obviously, the inclusion of a quadcopter — or “flying companion” is more of a gimmick than a production or practical reality, but it still makes a sick bit of sense.
The tiny drone can be controlled through either a tablet on the dashboard or by setting GPS way points that's semi-automatic , alerting the driver of obstacles in the road, beaming pictures back to the car, or videoing the Kwid’s travails.

The interior design was inspired by bird nests and the front seat can supposedly accommodate three companions, with the driver in the middle making it weird, while two more passengers can camp out in the back.
This machine is powered with a 1.2-liter engine that sends its measly grunt through a dual-clutch gearbox for low fuel consumption and down to the front wheels yes its and two wheel drive system, and Renault hints at the possibility of the Kwid using an electric motor, with a charging slot in its rear logo.

Naturally, it’s a concept, so the Kwid is more of a styling exercise that will point the way forward for Renault’s designs, but in the interim or practice , Jeep buyers would be wise to look into their own drone retrofits.

But historically, silicon has proved difficult to use in batteries, because it gets brittle and break easy property. and Additional to this, silicon reacts with other chemicals in batteries, creating a gunk that eventually kills the whole system and making it dead.

The designers at Stanford solved this problem by encasing the silicon nanoparticles in a cozy membrane of carbon--much like the way pomegranate seeds are housed within a squishy pulp.

During charging, the silicon seeds can swell within the membrane, lessening breakage and reducing gunky interactions between silicon and other battery chemicals.

And their had been a news that,Experiments showed our pomegranate-inspired anode operates at 97% capacity even after 1,000 cycles of charging and discharging, which puts it well within the desired range for commercial operation," said Yi Cui, associate professor at Stanford and lead researcher, in a press release.

"While a couple of challenges remain, this design brings us closer to using silicon anodes in smaller, lighter and more powerful batteries for products like cell phones, tablets and electric cars.”

It might take few more years,before you start charging your very own pomegranate battery--the designers are still perfecting the design and are sourcing cheaper silicon particles to make it affordable for the consumer market. But however long it takes, it's an exciting step in battery design.

MILITARY ROBOTS TO GUARD 2014 WORLD CUP :

This year’s World Cup has thirty new soldiers that will be tasked with protecting and monitoring 12 cities during the games.
They are PackBots from iRobot, and they will be rolling around keeping everyone safe very soon.

PackBots are one of the most versatile designs from iRobot for searching an urban area for anything dangerous and destructive.
Each 40-pound bot can be carried to a remote location in a backpack, as sown below and when it is deployed the PackBot can reach up to 9MPH with treads capable of traversing all kinds of complicated terrain.

They can even travel in water up to two meters deep if necessary, and can climb most stairs with relative ease with its powerful design. The Brazilian government has entered into a $7.2 million deal with iRobot to see 30 of these machines deployed in 12 cities during the World Cup, just to make sure everyone is safe.

Given their size and maneuverability, PackBots would be able to be used as perimeter monitors
where found to be attempted or similar dangerous situations can be deployed on the event
These bots can be remotely controlled from great distances, and offer the driver everything from HD imaging to temperature readouts while putting as few people in danger as possible.

They are also small enough that there’s a good chance an excited crowd might see one and try to walk away with it during the celebrations, but I’d wager the Brazilian government has a few ideas on how to discourage that kind of behavior.
However, this packbots could not be a substitute for human security and with a taunt that Brazilian government is just making an attempt to make this event more eye catchy.

Designer is Sangho Kim who is student at Art Center College of Design. The power source is typical American “muscle” engine – 6.2 liter V8 engine with 430 HP. This vehicle is offered with several options, such as leather interior, satellite navigation system, power windows ,locks and more.
It’s main purpose is off-road activities, but the Rally Fighter is street legal and it would not look ridiculous in urban conditions too.

And this beautiful monster is available to you with a price tag from $74,900 and depending on options you want to include, the price may grow to $80 000.

What is unusual from the most common cars is the Rally Fighter needs to be assembled before you can drive it.
yes exactly, you will receive the vehicle disassembled, in kit form, and needs to be assembled by you in order to drive it. But at least you’ll be guided, purchasing the Rally Fighter leads you to what is known as the “Local Motors Build Experience”.
And this what i call a passion where the monster is assembled as per customers desire.

In business, time is money, and that’s exactly what the designers at Spike Aerospace had in mind when they dreamt up the Spike S-512 jet.

This awesome design Measuring in at 40m (131ft) long with a wingspan of 18m (60ft), the S-512 is built to carry 18 passengers from point A to point B post-haste. With a cruising speed of Mach 1.6 and a top speed of Mach 1.8, and thats too fast than thr current world's fastest business jet, the Gulf-stream G650 as well as the upcoming cessna citation X with a top speeds of .875 and .935 Mach respectively. the S-512 is looking to become the World’s first supersonic private jet.

At those speeds, Spike claims that its S-512 will clip 3 hours off the six to seven hour jaunt from New York to LA and slash the transit time from LA to Tokyo in half. Taken in total, a one-way trip from New York to Tokyo could be done in about 13 hours.
However, given the jet’s 7,400 km (4,600 mile) range, making it a big lag off for time

And With initial designs only just unveiled; Spike Aerospace’s jet could still see much reconfiguration in the coming months and years.
For now, the company is stating that its speedy jet will run customers $60-$80 million each; maybe a bit too pricey for individual use, but certainly in the realm of possibility for large, multi-national corporations.

Although its initial designs are impressive, Spike Aerospace still has a lot to prove before it convinces investors to support the firm. One of the S-512’s most puzzling mysteries is how it will deal with the requisite sonic boom that accompanies supersonic flight.
With strict FAA regulation limiting how and where the phenomenon can occur, the S-512 might find itself entering a niche aerospace realm home only to the commercially unviable Concorde. while Cessna citation X awaiting for FAA certification.

If Spike Aerospace can successfully navigate its regulatory and design hurdles the company expects its first supersonic private jet to hit the runway in December 2018.

Role of cannons during world world-2:

A destructive feature of the World War II artillery is the cannons .Usage of these canons in 20th century began with the Big Bertha (also known as the “Fat Bertha”) during World War I. Big Bertha proved its effectiveness against older fortifications by destroying several Belgian and French forts.
However, these cannons were almost helpless against newer constructions built of concrete reinforced by steel.

Evalution of these useless powerful monsters machines :

Now let’s take a look over the largest cannons ever used in battle. These are the 800 mm Schwerer Gustav and Dora, railway guns developed by the Krupp family company who also developed the Big Bertha cannons in WWI.
They were designed in the 1930s in order to destroy the strongest defensive facilities of their time – the Maginot Line in France.

This defensive line was built by the French people along the frontier with Germany and consisted of different obstacles, concrete bunkers and fortifications, and weapons installations. For that purpose cannons should be able to destroy 1 meter thick layer of steel or 7 meter wide wall of reinforced concrete.
When the war began, the Wehrmacht invaded France by passing through Belgium, thus escaping the Maginot Line and conquering France without necessity of destroying the defensive line.

Schwerer Gustav was 1350 tons heavy and was capable of firing 7 tons heavy projectiles at a distance of 47 km.
The gun was destroyed in order to avoid capturing. The Schwerer Gustav
cousin – Dora, was intended to be used at the siege of Stalingrad. The menace of Soviet capturing forced German army to withdraw Dora from the siege. and later Dora was also destroyed before the end of the war.
The project was called Landkreuzer P. 1500 Monster and had to be powered by 4 submarine diesel engines. It was planned to be armed with Schwerer Gustav as main cannon and two smaller, 150 mm howitzers. The armament would have also included several 15 mm machine guns for air defense. The project was cancelled in 1943 and it remained on the drawing table only.

yes, though these machines were not used they had been considered as the most innovative and fragile
though the power of these monster machines when compared to present mini drones is not competable over itz structure could itself fill a fear in your hearts
