What is Privacy? Why is it even important for us?

Today, I am going to write on a very interesting but somehow ignored term by many normal Internet users, and it is Privacy. Privacy is security, privacy is safety. If you don't take it seriously then it's a topic of a little bit (or more) attention. How? We are here for exactly that reason.

We know what is Privacy and we know how to be secure in this world becoming over-transparent, over-insecure (in terms of the Internet).

Are they the questions or even thoughts just crossed through your mind as I said, "I'll talk about Privacy over the Internet"? Might have!

Privacy is not something that me or you going to read in some social media or any type of website's Privacy Policies and then, one would say, Yah, I understood all, they are not taking any single coin from my pocket! Done! But No, It's more sensible and much deeper thinkable point than we can even imagine. One should understand what is privacy and even if we completely read out the Policies and Terms, doesn't mean we are not likely to be at any risk. We should understand what we are sharing and how they can be used.
Let me start talking about this arguably big, real threatening, very important and sensitive topic using some major points and in the end, we are supposed to find out why Privacy is important for us, Is Your Privacy Secure, Good and the ways we can make our Privacy better and secure, How Privacy exists in our Internet Life (Or does not! who knows?).

What Is Privacy?
In simple words, Privacy is something that makes any individual keep themselves and their individuality, information safe and up to them and not compromised or shared without the permission of that individual. It is all about self-identity, personal information/data, public information/data can also be enlisted if they are not wanted to be shared with someone or somewhere specific.
By saying information or data, it could be anything, for instance, it could be your bank account number, your credit/debit card information, your passwords on important sites and services, your or going to very personal things, your likes/dislikes, your crush, even your sexual orientation. They all come under your private data and to keep them safe, Privacy should be concerned.
Privacy is an essential part of life and mostly the internet is the one making it weaker to keep in the safe-box.

What Am I sharing (Un)Knowingly And How My Privacy Can Be Compromised?
While Surfing Websites
Well, In today's time stamp, we're a real and very loyal Internet Lover. Every day we share our personal or public data over the internet while surfing through or using several websites for several reasons, and How? By Cookies, the data and traces we leave behind. Sometimes we care and tighten it and delete them, Sometimes not.
Whatever we surf, whatever we like, Browse, Share on any Social media platform, Whatever we read on news or any blog on the daily basis, whatever we watch or listen to on the internet, all is being written in a file and being saved as Cookies or the servers of the service themselves might be collecting and storing them at their place. Now, any website that specifically uses cookies for some specific calculation and analysis and then uses your data for several things it could be tracking your behavior, What sites You visit the most or frequently, what type of pages or videos you watch, likes and dislikes.
But cookies are not bad, they are for good purpose, they make the pages load faster, our passwords and other details that we enter in are saved to provide us with all that as quickly as we need them back on the spot.

Using Several Sevices Like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, PayPal(Or similar), Google+/HangOut, Flipkart(Similar E-commerce Site), GPS Maps, Cloud Storages

Why only surfing the Internet, even in other ways we might be putting our privacy at risk, they are by using several kinds of services like mentioned above. However, all of them take privacy very seriously and provides Policies that ensure a better Privacy but still what We are sharing is my concern. And Who knows how that Privacy Policies can still give ways to use your data without even of your understanding.

Let's see what we share through several famous services on the Internet that we use daily

Facebook(Social Media Sites): Sharing pictures, plans or events on Facebook, liking posts and news. Hey, Even Your Identity, Places you lived and currently living at, Your Educational and Work Present/History. Even Where you Partying tonight or Your very favorite Tech Conference at some hall or place. Isn't it scary? that all your information about your life, what you did and what you are about to do is available publicly and anyone can use it.

Online Image Sharing Apps/Sites: Using Instagram, Google Photos or similar kind of service We are sharing thousands of pictures.Even if you are saving them on Clouds. We are sharing it.

What We Love To Watch: Using YouTube, I'm giving all the details that what I like to watch or What I really don't or Hate.

Online Bank and Wallet Services: Using PayPal or any online banking and Wallet apps and services, I'm storing my banking data digitally and giving them out to other third-party service providers than our real Bank. My All transactions can be tracked and can be calculated where I spend or from where I really getting money. It is even possible by all those transaction patterns to deduce your Annual or Monthly income.

People Around Me: Using Google+ or Google's Hangout service we are easily vulnerable to provide the data with complete awareness that the people, in our circle and Who and What type of People are in our circles. Our Family, Friends, and Colleagues all information is there.

E-commerce Sites: Using Amazon, eBay, Flipkart or any similar kind of E-commerce website, I'm providing the company all the data about what I like to purchase and What Would I preferably going to purchase if they'll show me a relevant type of ads or recommendations.For example,

In this Screenshot, You can see a third party app had an ad at the bottom showing what was inside my Kart on Flipkart. Alright! How did that third party come to know what was inside my Kart?

GPS maps/Geo-Location services: All these services are always storing my locations and if I use navigational directions then they can easily know where am I going dinner tonight, where did I pick my cab and where I reached.Hmm, Interesting.
And even if You say that you don't really use the map and similar GPS services then the websites, apps and search engine that you use always get your geo-locations by your IPs and ISPs.And I've seen many apps that they even don't work without Location Permission.

Cloud Storages: Clouds are the places where we share our Documents, Files, Pictures, Videos, Even Phone Contacts, and Messages are being back up on cloud storages. Sometimes we share important and sensitive data and information over the clouds. All are there at one place folder and with nice file and folder name with description.

Apps: The apps that we install on our mobile Phones asks for Permissions at the time of installation, Have You ever seen what permissions are they? How and Even Why they want to access to all those permissions asked?
For instance:

Many Apps asks for Files/Folders access, Phone Contacts, SMS, Call Logs access.I'm not saying all apps are gonna steal that information and likely to sell or buy those data. Most apps and services take Privacy very seriously but what if we allow the Fraud app, unnecessary and sensitive data access?

Many Apps which blocks calls and messages have full access to your contacts, that is how, even after not being registered on phone number identification apps, We still see the name of the caller who has no account on that app. Where from they got the information about that number? Of course, someone else gave it access to his/her contacts and they got all the numbers with names.

Our Biometric Data Is Also Not Safe Now(I'm Not Kidding Ya!)

Today with the vision and charm of futuristic gadgets, we are so fond of them and We(even I) want to use all those cool stuff You know.

Like coming from work at night, Locked Doors opening by my Fingerprint and Iris scan or DNA(Futuristic, You Know!) and as I entered the room, My Computer Home Bot turned the lights and Air-Conditioner on and will ask in a ROBOTIC-VOICE, Welcome Manoj, And will ask me my needs, that if I want to take a Warm Shower or Should It prepare the bed and dim lights for my sleep. Interesting?

Well, Some of them are already in our life, now a common part of our Life. You must have used or seen a Mobile Phone having FingerPrint sensor lock, Iris Scanner for the same and Voice Assistants like Cortana, Siri, Google Assistant. They might seem very useful but aren't they also storing our biometric data at the same time?

Our FingerPrint, Our Iris Scan, our voice pattern and voice tone and I forgot to mention those Smart Watches always tracking our pulse rate and movement with every step of our feet. If ever my phone gets hacked or even the database where all my biometric data is saved, just imagine how badly those data can be misused.

So What Have I Shared Till Now?
If all the services mentioned above are already being used by you then till now you have shared....., Wait! Let's make a simple list of them.

Who You are, Where You lived/living and all history of where have you traveled, where you been hanging out with friends and had been.
Where from you did your schooling, What is Your Educational Status, What is your work history and current status.
Your Files(Important/Normal), Photos, Documents, Passwords(Saved in some third-party app or file or even your browser), Any file or folder I have on my computer, Mobile Phone or Tablet.
What People are around me, Who are my family/friends/close friends. Remember just by using some calculation, some third party sites predict who is Your Best Friend just by watching at the data of your social profile? Maths and Codes! They are powerful.
My Geo-location, My Current Location, My past location and Even future locations where I am about to go.
My Bank Details, My Contact Details, My Likes/Dislikes, Even my sexual Orientation can be calculated based on my internet history.
Most importantly, My biometric data. In India, We have Aadhaar, which is a completely biometric-based unique Identity Number for every Indian. Rest......You know it well what is at risk if biometric data saved on mobile phone devices and other electronic devices get compromised.

All these data is enough to be used against you if they are either stolen and sold or get hacked. Companies are just opening their big mouths and want to get all these important data. By selling your data one earns money and by buying those data and using those data's stats they serve you their services and make money.

What Is At Risk And What Could Possibly Go Wrong, If I Don't Go For A Better Privacy?
Well, being frank any data we share on the Internet can be used for either our good or bad or I should say Worst. It's all up to who has our data access.
The worst things that we can consider is either our Data Security is compromised and all the data is stolen or Second to that our data is sold by companies. Well, even If we have read all the Privacy Policies and Terms&Conditions, We still can't say we know all about how our data is to be used, we are just giving it to third parties' hands.

Even after following all the Laws and Policies, We are still not safe. In all those cases too, data and information can still be used in such an unexpected way that is legal and up to the policy mark too.
Companies are willingly interested in buying the information about the users, What are Likes & Dislikes, What they use and Contact Details and Personal Information are at the top.

Everyday Some people at some place get hacked, What next? Data Theft and then sold or worse is Bank Account and Amount is compromised.No information on the Internet is 100% safe, Hackers are there with less blinking eyes to how they can get and use the data. Even if all the companies and service providers go fair with their Policies then hacking is a serious impact on our Privacy.

Who has access to my Private Data and My personal information?
Service Providers over the Internet, say Google, Facebook, Twitter, Any kind of website providing several services, Maps, Cloud Storages and so on. They all are the people on whom we believe that they are going to keep our Privacy safe. The software is not a different tag from the tag list of the subtitle. Our Operating System has all the apps with their data and the data stored and processing on our hardware. That was the first reason I took so much time in switching from Symbian to Android.I never wanted to share my location, what apps do I use, what I use and what I don't. Well, sadly Symbian died( A Very sad moment for me) and I made an early switch to my first Android Phone, Samsung Galaxy S5. That is why I really appreciate Linux and all those hard working developers keeping alive and releasing several open-source software and services. At least, I have control over it and they even collect the data but they mostly use it for the betterment of their great piece of Open-Source software.

Last Few Words
So, I might be looked like a hypocrite or I might have said too much intense but what I wanted to make clear here is What are we sharing, What could possibly go wrong, what is at risk and overall understanding the term 'Privacy' and to make Privacy better are my main motto of this post. Not only Companies should take Privacy seriously but also the users should be vigilant about the data they are sharing and should not share on the Internet.

I'm not really saying that we should stop using all the services as It'll lead to misuse of your data, You should become anonymous, throw your phone away, stop using the internet and go into a cave to live the rest of your life and live there to be safe and to keep your privacy safe. That is all just nonsense.
Use all of them, most of the companies take Privacy and Security very very seriously and most of the reputed and the companies serious about users and about their information security, are not likely to sell your data in any way. All I wanted to say here is Knowledge about Privacy and What we are sharing and how they can be misused. Just try to understand the value of Your Identity and that is your step to better Privacy.

So, It is getting too long and Still, I've to write about how to make our Privacy and Security better, I'm postponing it to the next part.

Well, Today a very quick tip on how to get the list of upgradable software and packages on Debian-based distributions, I know we have the graphical option available but we are trying to do it under the terminal, so to do so just fire up the terminal using Ctrl+Alt+T, and run the following command

1 2	sudo apt update apt list --upgradable

and there you have it, you'll get the list of all the updatable packages available.

How to monitor hardware temperature using Psensor on Linux?

So as we all are well aware of the damages coming in existance in our laptop or desktop hardwares just because of critical temperatures.Now,reasons for high temperature could be any,but as far as it's under our supervision,we can just save our system from getting damages by actions on time.

Psensor is a very useful application available on linux.It shows up most of the supported hardware temperatures,it doesn't stop here,there are mor,check'em out in this post.

Features:

Psensor can detect CPU,GPU,motherboard,Harddisk drives,cpu fan speed,cpu usage etc. with a graphical interface as well.

You can set an alarm for critical temp. , by setting the high threshold temp. for individual hardwares.It's really helpful as you just dont't need to keep checking temperatures mannually all time around.
You can set it to start on every time you restart your system automatically.

How to install Psensor?
To install Psensor firstly you have to install some dependencies.Open Terminal and follow
Use the following commands to install lm-sensor and hddtemp:

sudo apt-get install lm-sensors hddtemp

Next we have to detect hardwares so type-in this command:

sudo sensors-detect

Now finally here is the command to install it:

sudo apt-get install psensor

So mates next time after installing Psensor,you will always be alerted by the temperature of your system and it must be really helpful in keeping your device safe from critical damages due to highly increased temp.

htop Process Viewer to monitor Processes on Linux

htop is a process viewer based on ncurses, running on your Linux system,very similar to top.If you have used top previously to view processes then you're going to feel right at the same home.But, htop stands itself above top by providing extra features.htop comes with ability to scroll up-down and horizontally as well,so it becomes easier to view the complete list of processes and commands of each processes.

Some HighLights of htop

htop is a text-mode process viewer for Linux/Unix based systems.
htop performs real-time monitoring of processes running on the system.
htop is very similar to top.But unlike top,htop supports scrolling vertically and horizontally as well.
Mouse scrolling and selection is available to perform options like killing,renicing.
Specific processes can be searched by names and locations.
Multiple processes can be tagged and a task can be performed for all the tagged processes.

Install htop
htop can be downloaded right from their WebPage in tarball archive or else you can install it right from your terminal by running commands for your distro as htop binary packages are available for almost all major Linux Distros.
Install on Fedora:Simply run this command to fetch htop:yum install htop
Install on Ubuntu(/Debian): For Ubuntu or any other Debian based Distros,you have two ways to get it.
Install it by running following command in Terminal:apt-get install htop
Other way is to get the debian package from Debian WebPage.Well either of them is gonna do the trick for you.I prefer the first one,so easy.For Ubuntu users,it is also available in Ubuntu Software Center.
On Slackware:htop is preinstalled on Slackware.So,just head to /ap section to find and use htop.
After installing htop,you can run it right by clicking on its icon or by typing htop in your terminal.It's way that simple.Now,You have a process manager on your Linux System,from where you can track,kill,view any process running in the background.

Interface Overview

Here,in the above screen shot,you can see we have divided the whole interface in 3 parts.Each has different monitoring.

The first part under the header of htop shows you CPU usage of each core,Memory(RAM)usage and Swap usage.
The second one located on the header, gives you an overview of number of tasks running,an average of load and up time of your system.
Third one is the main part in all.It shows you all the processes running.Here you can scroll,select and kill and can perform most of the actions required in a good process manager.

25 Essential Commands for Linux Newbies

The terminal in Linux, and the need to use it, is a widely known fact, and one of the big reasons why Linux has earned the reputation of being harder to used compared to other commercial alternatives out there.

However, in my experience, Linux isn’t any more difficult to use than any other system. It’s just different. Yes, you will need to use the terminal. But, with a little practice, you can become an expert in the Linux terminal. Once you do, I believe you will find that in many ways using Linux is actually easier and faster compared to the other options out there.

What Is Linux?

At its most basic, Linux is an operating system, much like Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS. It was originally created in 1991 by Linus Torvalds when he became interested in UNIX based operating systems but became frustrated with licensing issues surrounding many operating systems of the time. Linux isn’t a port of UNIX per say, as it’s built from the ground up. But it does share many similarities to UNIX, thus coining the term UNIX-like operating system.

Today, Linux can be found in the form of distributions, created by different groups of people and companies. Some of the most popular distributions today are:

Because of its free and open source licensing policies, today tt powers a majority of the world’s servers, especially for the Internet. But it can also be found powering routers, switches, and even our televisions and many more devices.

The Linux Terminal

The Linux Shell, more often referred to as the Linux Terminal, is a text-based application designed to receive commands from the user and show the output of these commands. From here, you can completely control every aspect of your Linux operating system. While you still may have a graphical user interface for day-to-day tasks, chances are you will have to use the Terminal to properly administer your Linux operating system.

Essential Linux Commands

Now that you understand exactly what the Linux Shell or the Linux Terminal actually is, let’s take a look at 25 essential commands that you will need to know when you start using Linux.

1. clear

When you are working in your terminal, the output can fill up your terminal window. By executing the clear command, you can clear your terminal window of all that added output that you don’t need and start with a fresh, empty terminal window.

2. ls

One of the commands you will use the most, ls allows you to see a list of files and directories of the directory you are currently inside. Adding the -l command will also show you the read/write permissions and group settings while also adding the -a will show hidden files. The most common way i use this is ls -la to show everything with all the details I need.

3. cd

The cd command is used to go to a directory. Simply type cd “directory name”. You can switch to any directory in your Linux file system if you execute the command with the “/” command. For example, typing cd /var while in your home directory will switch you over to the var directory with one command. You can also go up one level in directory structure by typing cd.. followed by enter.

4. pwd

A fairly simple command, the pwd command will tell you exactly where you are in your Linux file system. When you first open the terminal, you will be in your Home folder. But as you work in the terminal, chances are you will end up somewhere completely different. If you forget where you are, this command will be a lifesaver.

5. mkdir

When you want to create a new directory in Linux, execute mkdir “directory name”. This will create a directory in the current directory you are in. By adding a full path to the name, you can create a new directory anywhere.

6. rmdir

When you want to delete a directory, enter rmdir “directory name”. This will remove an empty directory in Linux. However, this command will not delete a directory that contains files. For that, you must use the rm command.

7. rm

The rm command is used to delete files on your system. To delete files, simply type rm “filename”. It will also delete directories with files inside them. To remove a directory, enter rm -r “directory name”.

8. mv

This command is used to move files from one directory to another. You can also use it to rename a file. To use it, type mv “name of file” “path/name of file”.

9. cp

If you need to copy a file from one place to another, or make a copy of the file under a new name, use the cp command. You will need two sets of parameters for this command. First, you will need to enter the name of the original file and then you will enter the location and name of the new file. Executing cp test test2 will create a duplicate of the file with a new name.

10. man

Linux is documented very well. Almost every single command in the terminal contains a manual page to learn more about it and how to use it. To access these manuals, simply type man “command” to display the manual page about that particular command.

11. date

This command will display the date that is set on the system. If the date is wrong, you can execute this command as root using sudo or su to change the date.

12. sudo

Many commands, such as package installation, for example, require root access in order to execute. By default, your user account doesn’t have root access. When you want to execute a command as root, all you have to do is type sudo before the command. For example, sudo apt-get install test would attempt to install a package called test.

13. su

Unlike sudo, the su command will log you in as root. In some systems, this is disabled by default, but can be activated on any Linux system if necessary. This allows you to login as root and make changes to your system without having to type sudo.

14. locate

The locate command is used to find a file in the Linux file system, much like search on Windows and Mac. Simple enter locate “filename” to find the file. If you aren’t sure if the name is in upper or lower case, add the -i switch to the command to ignore case, i.e. locate -i “filename”.

15. chown

Linux uses users and groups to denote ownership and permissions to files. If you want to change the ownership of a file from one user to another, enter chown “username” “filename”.

16. chgrp

You can also change the group ownership of a file so users that belong to a specific group can access a file. To change the group, type chgrp “group” “filename”.

17. chmod

To change the permissions of files or directories, use the chmod command. It makes use of parameters such as number codes like “755” to alter the read, write and execute permissions on files and directories. Such as chmod 755 “directory/filename”.

18. tar

The tar format is a type of compressed file format used on UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems. It uses arguments to manage tarballs, often found on Linux. Depending on which argument you use, you can compress files into a tar or extract them.

19. zip/unzip

The zip command is used to create a zip file of whatever files and folders you choose. For example, executing zip “name of files/folders” will create the zip archive. Unzip, on the other hand, will extract the contents of any zip file you create or download.

20. apt-get

Apt is the name of a package management system found in Debian-based Linux distributions. Using the apt-get command, you can install software, update your package management sources, remove software and more. It often needs to be executing as root or using the sudo command. For example, sudo apt-get install test would try to install a package named test.

21. df

The df command is used to check how much space you have on your hard drives. It will list all of the partitions on your hard disk and how much free space is available on each of them.

22. free

If you want to check how much RAM you are using and how much swap disk space is being used and how much you have, simply type free into the terminal to see how many resources your system is currently using.

23. mount/unmounts

The mount and unmount commands are used to mount any type of media to a specific directory. Using this command you can open DVD’s, external hard drives, USB flash drives, and more. To mount, simply execute the mount command. When you are finished, you execute unmount to remove it from the system.

24. ping

The ping command will check your connection to a particular server. It’s a very handy tool for troubleshooting internal network problems and even Internet connectivity issues.

25. kill

Sometimes a process or application will begin to misbehave, even in Linux. By executing the kill command followed by the process ID, you can terminate the command. Think of it as a task manager for your Linux terminal. When you have an app that is acting up, kill it with this command.

Parting Thoughts

As you can see, there are tons of commands you can learn in the Linux Terminal. These 25 really only scratch the service of the possibilities. But, they will give you a great start on your journey into the world of Linux if you decide to run it on your laptop or desktop. Navigating the terminal and executing commands in Linux is essential to any newbie wanting to take the Linux plunge. Try these commands on your copy of Linux and learn them by heart. Once you do, your Linux experience will get even better.

In current segment we will be learning about basic Linux administration. in previous part we leaned about some basic commands, we will see some more basic but important commands today. Oh! But there is already GUI in many Linux distro, what we will do by learning these commands?? Let me tell you sir, there is nothing more fun than playing with terminal in Linux.

cp : this command is used for copying files into specific folder. there is also another variation of this commands which is used for copying a folder into another. To copy a certain file you have to input command in terminal cp <file name> <destination folder>

In above screenshot we copied file to sample folder using cp command.

The another variation of cp command to copy a folder to another is cp -r. In above screenshot we copied LEL folder to LOl usaing cp -r.
mv : this command is used for moving one file to a folder. this will permanently move a file to a directory. To do this you need to type in command mv <file name> <directory name>

In above screenshot we moved file to LEL folder using mv command.
uname : this commands is used for checking details of your operating system. Simply entering uname will show name of Operating System. On the other hand entering uname -a will show the complete information of Linux platform such as operating system, fqdn, kernel version, date and time of kernel was complete.
man : this command is very useful for knowing details about other commands. In short it opens a help page for specific command.

In above screnshot we opened help page for cp command using man cp command. in the same way you can open help page for any command using man.

[Tutorial] Basic Linux Administration Part - 1

Hi guys, as we promised in the last announcement tutorials will make their way in like before. We are going to start a series of tutorials which will include different processes, how-to, tips for making it easy to learn about Linux. For the starters, we are going to start with basic Linux administration. This will help you to do many tasks on Linux in a simpler way. Also, it will be more helpful in learning the traditional way of using Linux.

In this tutorial, we will learn about some basic command lines which are helpful in day to day life.

mkdir : This command is used for making new directory or folder. To create a new folder all you need to do is open up your terminal and type in mkdir <directory name>

In above screenshots, you can see using mkdir command we created a new folder.

rmdir : this command is used for removing an existing directory or folder. But there is a condition, the directory should be empty for this command to work. to remove a certain directory you should type in terminal rmdir <directory name>

rm -rf : Sometimes the directory you need remove is not empty. In that case simple doing rmdir will return with an error. You will have to use rm -rf command if directory is not empty.

touch : this command is used to create a blank/empty file. if you want to create an empty file just type touch <file name>

in above screenshot, we created an empty file inside our previously created folder using touch command.
cat : this command can be used for two purposes. First purpose is to read the content of files in given directory. Second purpose is to create a read only file in given directory. To create a new file you will have to use command cat > <file name> and after you press enter it will prompt you to write something in file. Once you done with writing part just press ctrl+d to save your file.

as you can see in above screenshot we created a sample file using cat > command.

Now we need to read what is written in the file we created earlier. So, we just entered cat <file name> to read what is written on given file.
ls : this command is short for list. using this command you can get a list of folders and files inside them.

In above screenshot, we created a sample folder and file inside LOL directory. Then we entered ls command to check what is inside the directory. the white colored result shows file blue colored results shows folder.

Before we start, We want to thank Ian Murdock, the man without whom we must not be having the Linux as interesting as it is now to use and of course the availability of a variety of other distros based on Debian can't be ignored.

What is new in here?

Well starting from the very first thing that may decide whether you'll try or use new Debian or not and it is, of course, the system requirement.The new Debian Stretch has more new adds to the system support.With one new added architecture and one removal may make some difference.64-bit little endian MIPS has been added and sadly PowerPC is no more supported in Debian 9.Other than that 32-bit PC(i386) is not kicked out of the supported list, as per many other distributions dropping the support of it.ARM EABI, ARMv7, 64-bit Pc are some other supported architectures.

With the release of Debian 9, Firefox and Thunderbird are making a return.Replacing the long time occupied at their places Iceweasel and Icedove are removed.

Making USB key and Booting - Like many other distro, it is very simple to make USB key of Libre OS USB. Once you get an image file of this distro, you can simply us dd method to make USB key from any Linux distro. Alternatively, if you are using windows then you can use Rufus and select dd image option while making a USB key. Once you are done making a USB key, just plug it in any pc and boot from USB. you will be greeted with a beautiful boot screen of Libre OS USB.
Look and Feel - Libre OS USB is currently using latest MATE desktop environment for their testing versions. This makes the OS quite lightweight and can be used on older hardware. The icons and themes are beautiful.

There is also an option for tweaking themes and downloading more from online sources which make it quite customizable. You can simply choose just light or dark flavor, otherwise you can also customize it further to suit your style.

Well, there is also a beautiful boot screen animation and a good looking lock screen. So when it comes to looks, Libre OS USB is absolutely not a bad choice.

[My Views] Ubuntu 17.04 and future versions

Hi, guys it's been quite a long time since I last talked (rant) about random things while just having a relaxing day. Well, I will be ranting (i mean talking) today about some interesting stuff going on in Ubuntu world. So let's just sit back, relax, get comfy and talk about recent changes and future changes in Ubuntu.

After the release of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, lots of people were frustrated because AMD dropped their driver support for legacy hardware. That mean that legacy GPU won't be running on fglrx frivers anymore. One of our PC is also running with Radeon GPU and we were also frustrated with this move from AMD. We did run Ubuntu on that machine on minimal UI and without driver support. To save the day, there were some open-source alternatives, but those weren't giving enough performance. This was just the same in 16.10. Only newer hardware got supported from AMD with their AMDGPU-PRO drivers. What about the older and legacy hardware??? We lost hope on our AMD machine, but then 17.04 got released. This new version brought new light or AMD GPU users, as also brought support for legacy hardware with its AMD-Radeon drivers. Now Ubuntu works excellent on our AMD machine.

Though it is now running smoothly, but we are still not a big fan of Mir and Unity. Most of the time our team is divided in two when it comes to desktop environments and Ubuntu. One part of the team goes in favor of Unity, while the other on goes for KDE or GNOME. To be honest I loved to GNOME as a desktop environment. It was my first time using a Linux distro and I installed Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 LTS which had GNOME as it's default desktop. I really enjoyed Ubuntu a lot at that time but I was all gone in Ubuntu Natty 11.04. Though initially I wanted to try out Unity a lot but faced disappointments when it came down to performance. From that time I slowly began to lose my interest in Ubuntu and got more attracted to Fedora, SUSE, and Arch. I loved OpenSUSE more than any other distro and I still use it as my primary distro. But now, there was an announcement from Ubuntu team that Unity will be dropped and GNOME will use as it's default desktop again in future versions. This is what made me excited enough to try out Ubuntu once again. It was the decision that I personally liked and appreciated. So now Ubuntu team and Ubuntu GNOME team will just merge and make one single product that will be beautiful and fun like old days which made Ubuntu so good and made a vast community. Well after dropping Mir and Unity, let's see how Ubuntu change the tides with GNOME and Wayland.

Well, there is a lot more I have to say but that will just make this post longer and it will be too stupid to read it all. I will make sure to rant again about more different things in future and present my views in front of you guys. Hi guys, it is been a long pause on our website due to our exams and stuff but we are now back with more interesting stuff for you guys. Today we are going to meet Discord. If you are into online gaming and MOBA type games then you must have used or heard about Discord. It is one of the most versatile app out there for voice and text based chat. There are other apps like Skype or Teamspeak but Discord is unique in it's own way. Let's get to know more about this app.

Cross-platform - One of the most important thing about discord is that this app is cross-platform. You can use it in Windows, Linux, Mac, iPhone, Android and even a web version if you dont like to download and install the app. In Linux we used it on Ubuntu and Arch without any problems.

Stable - This app is seriously stable. It is even more stable then OS sometimes (LOL). It worked smoothly on mobile, on both Ubuntu and Arch. We also used it on windows and it didn't disappoint us there too. Discord consumes very low amount of ram and CPU usage.
Features - Discord probably have more features compared to skype or teamspeak. Most of all it is completely free of cost. It gives IP & DDoS protection. It also gives browser support, mobile support, in-game overlay, multiple channels, bots for customization and entertainment, friend lists, direct messaging, low latency, etc.

Connectivity, fun & bots - Once you get used to discord and made friend over it, you will start to enjoy it even more. There are lots of customizations to channels, one can make separate channels for different games or can merge them all at one place and categorize them. Another fun part of discord is the bots. There are lots of different bots for discord. They can simply manage and moderate your channels, play music while you are having a voice chat or not, can play various games, can predict future (no, but yes :P ) and do many more stuff. bots work same across all the platform and same commands can be used to manipulate them. [Quick Tip] How to reduce brightness during night time in android

HI guys, many times we want to use our phone in night time and it is just too bright for our eyes. Most of phones supports brightness reduction up to certain level but it is still high for our eyes. There is a solution for this problem, you can simply reduce brightness even below phone's minimum range. To do this you will need an app called Screen Filter. To use Screen Filter app you need to have a rooted phone with Xposed installed in it, otherwise it won't work.

Once you downloaded and installed Screen Filter app from Xposed, activate it within Xposed and reboot your phone. After this you are ready to use screen filter app. This app has some basic settings to adjust from. Even though it looks so simple but it makes huge difference. Adjust your settings according to your taste. It also features a color filter to reduce blue light during night time. So We are here with a new segment on Your Tech Spot Blog, TechPhylum, named as My Views.

Who's view? Who is 'My'? What is this new segment going to consist of? What You people are going to do in this? How Would it be helpful for me? (User's Views)
Well, all of these questions might be hitting those minds just processed the title of the post as 'My Views'. Relax, we are going to explain all. Join us and read the following lines, it won't be taking too long time.

What we are up to in this segment is simply the Tech World and view on that Tech stuff of a Simple End User, a normal consumer of technologies. Linux Kernel 4.10.2 released

Linux Kernel stable release, Linux Kernel 4.10.y received second point maintenance update.Linux Kernel 4.10.2 got an announcement of release by Linux Kernel maintainer for stable branch Greg Kroah-Hartman.
Seeing the changes, we have 174 changes made and 1929 files have been added along with deletion of 1010 files from the last kernel point.Seeing the changes we can say that inclusion and works on some drivers with sound and security segments have been worked and troubleshoot.

All the users who are already on Linux Kernel 4.10.y are advised to upgrade to the latest one.

Today We have a very nice or we should be saying very quick way to download youtube videos.
Here we go with step by step quick guide
Step 1

Go to the video link that you want to download. For example, say the link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxjsACmEbJw

Step 2

Simply edit the link by deleting few characters from it, i.e. 'UBE' from the link and it will look like https://www.yout.com/watch?v=BxjsACmEbJw and just visit that link and you will get to a website giving you options to download the video in mp3 or video format with resolutions.

Step 3

Simply switch to MP4(video) and click on the RECORD button. And Done!

WhatsApp's Text Status is back with new name 'About' and A New Look in a beta update on Android

Recently WhatsApp came with a new Status feature which allows users to post Pictures, Videos, and GIFs as their WhatsApp Status with a caption(if needed).But Many of us felt at the very first sight, Text Status is a real missing feature in the new update.Though some appreciated it or were okay with it.

The Text Status Feature is Now Called 'About'
For me it was good but as I gave a FeedBack to WhatsApp team to let the end-user decide what to be as their WhatsApp Status, A Text or A media File.Well, WhatsApp understood the need of the users and finally they have rolled a beta version having the Text Status back.But this time we have it with a new name called 'About'.Well, It is not a status option, but a by default available feature to all users and the media status is still there with same set of functions as it was earlier.

So not only the Text Status is back with a new name in this beta update but also a new updated look of WhatsApp is here.

For now this update is available for beta-testers only.For normal users it may take little more time to get this feature.
