As AI increasingly underpins competitive advantage, UK organizations face mounting pressure to build a workforce capable of using these technologies effectively and confidently.

Universities are central to this talent pipeline. However, many employers see a growing disconnect between what students learn academically and the skills required in today’s workplace.

UK job postings mentioning AI skills are now 127% above pre‑pandemic levels, highlighting how quickly employer expectations are evolving.

To close this gap, particularly amid the ongoing AI skills shortage, higher education institutions need to place greater emphasis on practical, applied training.

That means ensuring students are not only familiar with AI tools, but capable of using them confidently, critically, and responsibly in real-world settings.

Core competencies such as prompt engineering, AI-enabled data analysis, and translating AI insights into business outcomes are essential.

The standard for what constitutes an ‘AI-ready' employee is increasing. As AI shifts from experimental to embedded in everyday workflows, organizations expect new hires to use these tools effectively and with minimal onboarding.

At the same time, many employers lack the internal capacity to build these capabilities themselves. A significant proportion report limited hands-on AI use across their workforce, and relatively few have invested in structured training programs. As a result, businesses are increasingly looking to early-career talent to help close this gap.

However, many graduates still enter the workplace without meaningful exposure to AI in a professional context or an understanding of how it informs decision-making. Universities are on the front line when it comes to preparing students for the responsible use of AI, both during their studies and beyond. But this depends on educators themselves feeling confident in how these tools work in practice.

This includes understanding which tools are appropriate for different use cases, how to incorporate them into learning in a way that builds critical thinking rather than shortcuts, and how to demonstrate responsible, real-world usage. Yet many educators still lack confidence in this area, particularly when it comes to applying AI in daily teaching or administrative tasks.

The challenge is that when educators are not fully comfortable with AI, it becomes harder to equip students with the practical skills they need. To address this, institutions need to move beyond basic awareness and invest in meaningful professional development.

Educators should be supported to understand not just how to use AI, but where it adds value, where it falls short, and how to evaluate its outputs critically. With this foundation, they can then introduce low-risk, practical opportunities for students to engage with AI. For example, using it to break down complex concepts while strengthening independent reasoning.

Embedding AI throughout the student journey

Despite AI becoming increasingly prevalent in the workplace, many students still remain hesitant to use it during their studies. This is often due to uncertainty around what is permitted. Clear and practical guidance from universities is essential to remove this ambiguity, reduce anxiety, and support responsible adoption.

Once expectations are clearly defined, institutions can create learning environments that help students understand not only how to use AI, but when and why. Greater transparency fosters confidence and builds the kind of ethical judgement that employers increasingly value.

In practice, this means modelling responsible use of AI while encouraging reflection and critical thinking. Assessment methods may also need to evolve by shifting focus from the final output to the full process of learning, including research, drafting and iteration.

Regular feedback and check-ins also play an important role. Tools that provide insight into how work develops over time can help educators offer more targeted guidance and create space for open conversations around AI use. Over time, this approach helps students build transferable skills, such as evaluating their own work, applying sound judgement, and clearly articulating the reasoning behind their decisions.

Final thought

The gap between what universities teach and what employers expect, particularly around AI, continues to grow. But with clear frameworks, better-supported educators, and a more deliberate integration of AI across curricula, there is a clear opportunity to realign education with workplace needs.

By investing in AI capability at every level (from faculty development to student experience), universities can ensure graduates leave with more than theoretical knowledge. What, like making a prequel series is hard? I should never have doubted the power of Elle Woods, who at this point feels like the pop culture equivalent of Mother Teresa to millennials.

Since the moment that Elle was announced by Prime Video, I've been it's number one hater. I've written opinion pieces about how its existence is going to destroy the sanctity of Elle's journey at Harvard, and I've spent hours stewing over how anybody could touch the side of Reese Witherspoon's career-defining performance. If we're getting another Legally Blonde project, make it about Elle's Supreme Court Justice years... right?

But oh, how the mighty have fallen. Having now watched all eight episodes of Elle, my hater-self is metaphorically standing in a dumpster fire of her own making. As someone prepared to loathe it, take this next remark with absolute seriousness and sincerity: this series is outrageously good.

In the blink of an eye, I once again felt like my 6-year-old self when the 2001 movie first came out — enraptured, inspired and completely at ease with who I am inside. How? Well, that's just what Elle Woods does, regardless of who is playing her.

But if you'd have told me at Lexi Minetree was actually an AI version of Witherspoon in her twenties, I'd have believed you. Minetree has all of Witherspoon's mannerisms down to a tee, has perfected her voice, and wholeheartedly understands the spirit of the woman we all know and love. It is, frankly, a miracle.

But Minetree isn't the only reason for Elle's success... absolutely everybody, and almost everything, is pulling their weight.

Elle is about to put the Legally Blonde haters to shame — and most of the film's lore holds up

When Elle turns 16, she's forced to leave her Bel-Air luxury lifestyle behind for Seattle, all thanks to a plastic surgery scandal that her father is embroiled it. With her new high school in the grip of the 90s grunge scene, our favorite pink tornado is once again a fish out of water, and she has to fight to fit in.

As I've pointed out, Minetree's freakishly brilliant understanding of Elle — and how unwilling she is to deviate from Witherspoon's blueprint — spearheads the feel-good fun, but let's look at what's happening around her.

Surprisingly, Elle isn't just a nod to Legally Blonde. There are also clear references to big nineties and noughties hitters including Mean Girls, Clueless, Freaky Friday and The Breakfast Club, and the nostalgic yearning is strong. From the corded landlines to the banging soundtrack, our young adult life from this time period is fully and lovingly represented.

As willing as I initially was to write our Seattle newbies off, they're also a treat of an ensemble. Bel-Air bestie Madison (Jessica Belkin) shirks the airhead sidekick stereotype in favor of a grounded spirit and unshakable loyalty, while high school mean girl Kimberly (Chandler Kinney) is hiding a true self that is the last thing you'd expect (no spoilers here).

British boy Dustin (Zac Looker) fuels Elle's curiosity for anarchy and change, while also providing proof that she can truly extract the best out of every walk of life. A more touching shoutout goes to the enigmatic role of Dean Wilson, which marks James Van Der Beek's final acting credit before his death earlier this year.

It's no surprise that my favorite side character is Eva Woods, played by the underrated powerhouse in June Diane Raphael. You only had to briefly see this woman in Parks and Recreation or Grace and Frankie to know how much she truly understands the superficial class, which she poignantly balances with a steady heart and sense of empathy.

Sadly, Perfect Day by Hoku is nowhere to be seen

Now for the most important bit of feedback: the existing Legally Blonde lore. For the most part, I found that it adds to my love of the IP rather than takes away from it, especially when it answers some pivotal questions.

Without giving too much away, we'll find out how Elle gets Bruiser the Chihuahua (who's wardrobe is absolutely jaw-dropping, by the way), how Elle ends up back in Bel-Air in time for the events of the original movie, and how she begins to gain an interest in defending innocent people.

However, it's this last one that's a bit of a sticking point. For those of us who know the 2001 film better than we know ourselves, it's unspoken knowledge that Elle had zero interest in pursuing anything related to a law degree, but was only compelled to do so to win boyfriend Warner back.

That, in a nutshell, is the reason why Legally Blonde even exists. So the mere fact that Elle's rewritten history suggests that this inspiration came much earlier in her life doesn't completely sit with what we know of her adult life. It's clearly supposed to be a seedling for what's to come, but perhaps is a little overplayed.

Even so, I had such a good time watching Elle that I don't even care. The ebbs and flows of high school drama are deliciously played, the script is genuinely hilarious, and the overarching narrative plot is addictively compelling. I've been that engrossed that I'd even go as far as to say that it needs a second season, stat.

Sharing Netflix accounts today isn’t as easy as it was in the mid-2010s, but now the best streaming service has another account crackdown on the way that’s already getting under people’s skins.

A handful of users have noticed a new in-app pop-up asking each member in a shared account to add individual email addresses to their individual profiles, instead of using the account owner’s email address as the primary one. One of the most jarring parts about it is that the pop-up doesn’t clear unless the request is fulfilled.

This hasn’t rolled out to all Netflix account holders yet, but the company informed Ars Technica that the new sign-in update began on June 15, so we imagine a wider rollout is inevitable. The outlet also stated that this pop-up doesn’t apply to profiles that are labelled as belonging to children.

Netflix households accounts have always been built on the traditional 'one email, one password’ foundation, allowing you to create up to five profiles to keep watchlists and recommendations separate from other members in your family. That’s all about to change, but why Netflix has decided to roll out yet another crackdown is the question that everyone is asking.

According to the details mentioned in the pop-up, this is purely a convenience reason. Having individual emails assigned to individual profiles under one account means you won’t have to keep relying on using the account holder’s email to sign in each time. It also means that if you ever need a verification code to log into Netflix, you won’t have to chase up the account holder for it in their inbox.

Additionally, the pop-up also says that adding an email address to your profile will make it a lot easier for you to recover the account when needed, and get personalized content recommendations with more features to come. On paper it sounds like Netflix is adding this requirement as a user experience enhancer, but subscribers are convinced it’s just another way for the company to surveil user activity.

When Netflix rolled out its password crackdown back in 2023, it ended an era of serial account sharing and that’s where the service decided one account was strictly for one household, the ‘Netflix Household’ in official terms. With its latest move, we believe that there’s more than meets the eye — and so do a vast majority of users online.

Over the past few weeks Reddit has seen a swarm of reactions following the first appearances of the pop-up, but the main concern expressed by users is the possibility of this morphing into a payment system, charging account holders to fork out extra just to add more profiles. “This is killing Netflix for me”, one user added.

Based on Netflix’s past crackdowns, the new requirement could also give the streaming giant another way to better distinguish between the activity of individual profiles, or even shift them to individual accounts later down the line. But while users have expressed outrage over this, some say they’ve found a workaround.

It appears that creating email aliases has helped some users get past the pop-up without giving Netflix all of their information, however this has only worked for those using Gmail.

One person in particular says that you can amend your Gmail address in order to create an alias, giving the example that if your email is ‘johnsmith@ gmail.com’ you could set up ‘johnsmith+kid1@gmail.com’. They go into further detail in their Reddit post, while others in the replies who use this workaround for other situations confirmed that it works.

As mentioned, this update hasn’t reached every Netflix subscriber yet and is rolling out slowly to start, similar to how the platform kick-started its password crackdown. Given Netflix’s history, we’re definitely keeping one eye open on this one.

• Users both praised and criticized Edge, but I still prefer Firefox

Apple and Microsoft are known to be arch-rivals in the tech world, so when X user Macfolio asked its followers “what kind of freak uses Microsoft Edge on a Mac?” they might have expected the debate to fall along partisan lines, with rival sets of fans lining up to berate each other’s products.

But while there was indeed a vigorous debate, it wasn’t the pile-on you might have expected. Instead, many users chipped in with reasons why they enjoy using the combination of Microsoft’s web browser and Apple’s macOS operating system.

X user @wiedymi, for example, described Edge as “the best browser for Mac.” User @secretised explained that when they used it, it was “the only browser that didn’t consume 4GB of RAM with four tabs,” while @osxdaily said “It’s actually pretty good!”

For others, the reason was more prosaic, with @asikunaa pointing out that “some internal government sites require you to use Edge actually because they don’t distribute the security certificates for Chrome.”

Meanwhile, user @tarekmohmd9 summed up what many people apparently felt, saying Edge on macOS has “the speed boost of Chromium without the horrible RAM management of Chrome, it’s great (faster than Safari, uses less resources than Chrome, supports most Chromium extensions unlike Opera and Firefox).” They finished succinctly by saying “it is excellent.”

Of course, not every response was positive. User @rafalo claimed that “I just downloaded it and uninstalled it after [five seconds].” And @LansorHQ simply asked, “What kind of freak uses Edge in general?”

Why I use Firefox instead

I’m a long-time Firefox user and have been rocking Mozilla’s browser for over 20 years. I’ve dabbled with other browsers, from big dogs like Chrome and Safari to more niche offerings like Opera and Vivaldi. And yes, I’ve spent plenty of time with Microsoft Edge, too.

Yet despite all that, I keep coming back to Firefox. There are a few reasons for that, and I’ve got to admit that a sizable one is inertia. After so many years of usage, Firefox feels comfortable and familiar. I like how it works and switching would be a chore considering how many extensions and tabs I have running.

But there’s a lot more I love about Firefox. I use both a Mac and a PC in my day-to-day life and Firefox runs on both, unlike the Mac-only Safari. I can also send tabs between any of my devices, which is helpful when I find something interesting on my iPhone and want to read it later on my Mac or PC.

As I've written about previously, it's also a genuine privacy-first browser that goes to great lengths to protect your data, which is something that I truly appreciate. It isolates cookies to stop them building a detailed picture of you, and Firefox limits access to my data that could be used to create a digital 'fingerprint' of my browsing habits.

So despite the debate on X, I won’t be switching to Microsoft Edge any time soon. But the discussion highlights that just because you use one operating system or another, you don’t have to be exclusively loyal to that developer’s own products — you can even switch to those made by their arch-rival.

It appears that it's damage limitation time for DC Studios.

After Supergirl launched — and subsequently bombed — at the global box office, the comic book giant's movie and TV division is seemingly refusing to alter its wider plan for its nascent cinematic universe.

Indeed, speaking to The New York Times (NYT) in the wake of Supergirl's disastrous opening weekend performance, DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran insisted that he, fellow studio head James Gunn, and parent company Warner Bros. "remain confident in" the long-term vision for the DC Universe (DCU). That's despite Safran's admission that the Milly Alcock-starring movie "didn't meet our box office expectations".

Such a statement is a, well, understatement. Following its June 26 release, the film formerly known as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow suffered something of a catastrophic debut. As NYT's report noted, the DCU Chapter One earned a paltry $68 million worldwide — $38 million in North America and $30 million internationally — during its first four days in theaters.

To put the first of those figures in frighteningly bleak context, the much-maligned Spider-Man spin-off flick Morbius, aka the vampiric anti-hero film starring Jared Leto, made just $39 million in North America during its own miserably opening weekend in late 2022.

What makes Supergirl's performance all the worse is, at the time of publication, it holds a middling 56% critical score on review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, Morbius has been stuck at a life-draining 15% for almost four years. The fact that the second DCU Chapter One movie made $1 million less in North America than Morbius, then, should really set the alarm bells ringing at DC Studios HQ.

Why didn't Supergirl fly higher at the global box office?

There are numerous reasons that can be pointed to, including the ongoing superhero fatigue debate, prioritizing a new Supergirl movie over, say, a film starring another of DC Comics' so-called Holy Trinity in Batman and Wonder Woman, and — perhaps most crucial of all — word of mouth. After all, where the last of those reasons is concerned, movies can live or die on what critics and/or general audiences not only think of them, but say about them. You can see what I thought of the Alcock-led adventure via my own Supergirl review.

But I digress. In my view, there's another major cause for Supergirl's incredibly poor performance worldwide — and it's got to do with two powerhouse animated film franchises: Toy Story and Minions.

Where the former is concerned, the critical reception to its fifth installment was as mixed as Supergirl's was. Heck, in my Toy Story 5 review, I gave it three out of five stars, which is the same score Supergirl earned.

Nevertheless, Toy Story's immense popularity means it can — for now, at least — withstand any negativity that comes its way. That much is clear based on its own worldwide ticket sales, which have seen Toy Story 5 rack up an almighty $585 million (per Variety) in its first 12 days in theaters.

Then we come to the other aforementioned billion-dollar-spinning film series in Minions. With its next story — Minions and Monsters — set to not only arrive on July 3, but also predicted to make a similarly huge sum of cash, the timing of Supergirl's release couldn't have been worse. Maybe if its launch had been held back until August when its biggest competitor would arguably have been the next Insidious film, it might have soared higher.

Razer Pro Type Ergo review: two-minute review

Ergonomic keyboards have long been Logitech's territory, but the Pro Type Ergo is Razer's most convincing argument yet that it belongs in the productivity conversation, and not dismissed as just a gaming brand.

It's the brand's first split ergonomic keyboard, and it arrives with a full-size layout, clever software and a mild enough learning curve to make ergo peripherals feel genuinely accessible. There's a lot to like here — the software depth is impressive, the wireless connectivity is versatile, and the adjustment period is shorter than you might fear. But at its higher price tag, the lack of mechanical switches is hard to ignore, and that one compromise colors the whole package.

In practice, the Pro Type Ergo impresses in several key areas. The adjustment period is impressively short — I was largely up to speed within a couple of days, even with some stubborn old typing habits to shake. The fixed vegan leather wristrest is plush, the sculpted keycaps keep your fingers where they should be, and the duplicated 'B' key is a small but smart touch.

Software is a genuine highlight too, with Razer Synapse 4 offering up to 100 mappable functions for the twin command dials, deep macro key customisation, and an AI Prompt Builder that pipes queries into ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot if you want it to. Connectivity is equally versatile, covering three-channel Bluetooth, a 2.4GHz USB-A receiver and USB-C wired, with a claimed three months of battery life per charge and an ideal set of outputs for power users.

However, there are limits that stop the Pro Type Ergo from being an easy recommendation at this price. The most glaring is the switch choice — scissor-actuated membrane keys on a £179.99 keyboard feel like a bit of a compromise, however comfortable and snappy they might be in use.

The Keychron Q13 Max lands at a similar price and is properly mechanical, while the Logitech Ergo K860 covers the core ergonomic brief for roughly half the cost. The Pro Type Ergo's full-size layout and non-removable wristrest also means it takes up a significant amount of desk space, which rules it out for anyone working in tighter quarters – it even made my 120cm desk seem tiny.

At $189.99 / £179.99 / AU$299.95, Razer is asking you to pay a premium for style, software depth and ergonomic approachability — and on the whole, it delivers with a product that's comfortable, likeable, and especially versatile.

Just bear in mind the trade-off by going for a non-mechanical choice at this price. The Pro Type Ergo justifies much of its premium price tag with its versatility, clever software and a learning curve that won't upend your entire working week. If you want to take the plunge into ergo peripherals without sacrificing style or features, this is a very good place to start.

Razer launched the Pro Type Ergo in April 2026, and it's available for $189.99 / £179.99 / AU$299.95, which puts it towards the top end of this non-mechanical market, not least for a more niche product such as an ergonomic keyboard. It's available from Razer's own website and secondary retailers such as Amazon.

For reference, it's possible to get more office-oriented ergo keyboards with a similar split layout for more affordable prices, such as the Logitech Ergo K860. It's about half the cost of the Pro Type Ergo with similar fundamentals, although it misses out on Razer's clever software trickery and the oodles of customisation it comes with.

For a more affordable choice, there's also the Logitech Wave Keys, which isn't quite as drastic with some of its ergo sensibilities, although it lacks the snappiness of scissor-actuated keys with more standard rubber domes.

Outside of the usual mainstream brands, the Keychron Q13 Max is a similar price to the Pro Type Ergo and comes with a full-size layout, a machined aluminium chassis, a command dial and macro keys, plus QMK software powers, and it is also properly mechanical. For a different take on ergonomics, the HHKB Studio is a fellow premium choice, but instead of offering split keys and such, it moves some keys around for a more comfortable layout and is fully mechanical.

Razer Pro Type Ergo review: Design

The Pro Type Ultra is Razer's first split ergonomic keyboard, and it blends several of the brand's key design hallmarks into a brand new form factor. For instance, it comes with its usual modern and understated design language that has characterised a lot of its more recent releases.

The fact that it's a full-size layout keyboard with a number pad, nav cluster and function row alongside a big wristrest and function dials means it takes up an awful lot of desk space. That vegan leather wristrest is a large part of the bulkiness of this keyboard, and it isn't removable.

Nonetheless, Razer has designed this keyboard to be functional and comfortable with that full-size layout in mind, and the fact that this is a milder form of ergonomic keyboard than some of the weirder options from Kinesis and ZSA that can take even more getting used to.

What I mean by this is that this keyboard has a mild split down the middle that's designed to align your hands directly with your shoulders to help reduce the risk of getting RSI or carpal tunnel syndrome.

To Razer's credit, even though the angle of the split is fixed, the keyboard has a natural rise and fall across its chassis to help reduce pronation, or forearm strain. The fixed wristrest is also decently plush in the middle, and you get some excellent two-stage feet in all four corners on the underside of the keyboard to raise the angle up or down as you'd prefer.

This split layout forces you to learn how to touch-type properly, which can take some getting used to if you have an odd technique, as I do, where I rarely use my ring and pinky fingers to type, and usually use my fore and middle fingers to do most of the work, sometimes on either side of the keyboard.

Razer has made some small, but noticeable, changes to a standard full-size layout, making some keys slightly elongated, with the 7, T, G, H and B keys. Weirdly, the B key has been duplicated to improve speed and comfort, and the space between the two Space Bars on the bottom row. The keycaps are also slightly sculpted, similarly to the Logitech MX Keys range of products to help keep your fingers where they should be.

Outside of the ergonomic benefits of the Pro Type Ergo, Razer has also made sure to give this keyboard other accoutrements, such as programmable macro keys down the left side and a couple of command dials in each corner. There are also three silver shortcut keys in the top right corner for opening Razer's own AI Prompt Master software, checking battery status and a custom button, plus there are dedicated buttons for wireless pairing over Bluetooth and the bundled 2.4GHz receiver.

The front interface is quite simple, with a convenient toggle switch for wired or wireless use and a USB-C port for charging and wired use.

Usually I take a couple of weeks to review a keyboard to best understand its quirks and features, but took a little longer with the Pro Type Ergo, owing to its ergonomic credentials. In my experience, it can take a good week or so to get fully used to using an ergonomic keyboard or mouse, so I thought it best to take my time to give Razer's keyboard a fair shot.

To be truthful, the adjustment period of moving to this ergo keyboard wasn't as long as I was expecting it to be, and I found myself mostly up to speed within a couple of days. It took longer to try to get out of some of the habits I've picked up over decades of typing in a funny way. For instance, I found myself usually reaching over to press the Y key with my left forefinger out of habit, which I had to train myself not to do during the review period. It might be useful if Razer put two Y keys to help out with this habit, especially as they've already done it for the B key on the bottom row, but your mileage may vary, of course.

Nonetheless, I found the Pro Type Ergo to be a comfortable device to use, especially after the smaller adjustment period. It makes a product like this a more compelling purchase against ones that force you to make more wholesale changes to your routine, which can be quite upending in some instances.

Under finger, this Razer product isn't mechanical, which surprised me considering its high price tag. Instead, it's using a scissor-actuated mechanism that's similar to what you'll find on the smaller Razer Joro or any of the brand's Blade laptops. This means it's a short and snappy keypress, but one that lacks the precision or tactility of a mechanical option.

There are ergonomic keyboards that are also mechanical, but owing to the bigger size of full-height mechanical switches, they are likely to be bulkier than the Razer Pro Type Ergo – I can understand why this isn't a mechanical product, but it's still a shame it isn't.

Connectivity is versatile, with three-channel Bluetooth and 2.4GHz with the bundled USB-A receiver on the menu, and pairing is simple, too. Simply hold the button down on the keyboard until the button flashes blue and the Pro Type Ergo shows up in the pairing menu of your device. You can also use the bundled USB-C cable for wired connectivity.

As for battery life, Razer also promises three months of use from a single charge, though I imagine you'll have to cut RGB lighting to reach that. You can check the keyboard's battery level with the dedicated button in the top-right corner, which is neat. The Pro Type Ergo takes five and a half hours to recharge, but if the charge lasts up to three months, that's a small price to pay in my book.

Software duties are handled by Razer Synapse 4, and the Pro Type Ergo, unfortunately, isn't compatible with the new web-based variant of Synapse. It's an improvement on the older and clunkier forms of Synapse that came before it, and provides a lot of customisation opportunities for the keyboard, with up to 100 different functions available for the keyboard's command dials, custom key bindings for the macro keys (or you can use built-in ones for apps such as Photoshop or MS Word), and even remapping every other key on the keyboard.

The dedicated AI Prompt button on the keyboard works in a similar way to Logitech's Logi Prompt Builder, allowing you to build a prompt in software, which is then answered by your choice of either ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot in a browser window.

One of the big questions surrounding Samsung’s rumored wider foldable is what it will actually be called.

Early leaks referred to it as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, but then more recently, we heard that it might simply launch as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, with the direct successor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 now being called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Now, though, another possibility has emerged.

Some leaked images have been shared on X by Mohammed Khatri and @thinborne showing packaging for seemingly official cases for the phone, which here is listed as the ‘Samsung Galaxy New Fold’.

But there are reasons to doubt this name, as while the photos are probably real, there’s a high chance the products they show are knock-offs from China.

As one Reddit commenter purported: “These are fake cases made by Chinese companies sold through eBay, temu, shein, ali express, etc... they copy Samsung boxes well, but they don't know the new name of the fold wide, so you can see that on the box where it's just called new fold. Samsung would never do that.”

Another Reddit poster agreed, writing, “I've seen cases like that appear all over Aliexpress and almost all of them are knockoffs with the Samsung logo on them.”

And on top of all that, these are supposedly ‘Kindsuit’ cases, which are a style of case that Samsung offers for last year’s flagship phones, but not for the Samsung Galaxy S26 series. So there’s some doubt over whether the company’s upcoming foldables would get this style of case.

We'll find out soon

On the other hand, questionable name aside, these do look like they could be official Samsung cases, so we can’t completely rule out the possibility that this will be the wider foldable’s official name.

But it would seem an odd choice, as subsequent wide models will no longer be ‘new’ in the same sense, so it would quickly become a clunky naming scheme.

We’ll probably find out very soon anyway, as Samsung is rumored to be launching its next batch of foldables on July 22.

James Gunn and Peter Safran have reportedly found the actor they want to play Batman in the DC Universe (DCU).

According to industry insider John Campea, an unlikely name has been tapped to portray the Dark Knight in Gunn and Safran's comic book franchise.

Campea wouldn't reveal the identity of said actor on the latest edition of his podcast, but says two different sources — one of whom is "well-positioned" to know these things, and neither of whom knows the other — linked the same star to the role.

So, who is this mystery individual? According to other leakers with less reputable track records, including MyTimetoShineHello, it's Tom Brittney.

Who is Tom Brittney and has he actually been cast as the DCU's Batman?

An English actor best known for playing the lead role in seasons 4 to 8 of British detective drama Granchester, Brittney won't be familiar to the vast majority of readers.

However, he's starting to make a name for himself in Hollywood circles. For a start, he was one of three individuals who made it to the final round of auditions to play Superman in the DCU. The others? David Corenswet, who won the race to play the Man of Steel, and Nicholas Hoult, who wound up being cast as Supes' archnemesis Lex Luthor.

Among other roles post-Granchester, Brittney had a small supporting role in hit Netflix movie Back in Action, which starred Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz. He'll next appear on the big screen in Lionsgate's Fall 2: Deadpoint, aka the follow-up to 2022 survivor thriller Fall, which is out in early September. If Brittney hasn't officially been announced as the DCU's Caped Crusader by then, expect him to field many, many, many questions about his potential casting during Fall 2's press tour.

"Great, Tom, but is there any truth to this rumor?", I hear you ask. At the time of publication, Gunn, who isn't shy about debunking hearsay — or, on the rarest of occasions, confirm a casting rumor — via social media, hasn't commented on the matter.

Admittedly, the DCU co-chief has his hands full with Man of Tomorrow, i.e. the sequel to 2025's Superman movie. Unless Gunn raises his head above the parapet to confirm or deny Brittney's involvement, we might not know until, well, tomorrow (June 30) when new scenes are expected to be filmed for Clayface, the next DCU Chapter One film.

Why new filming days for Clayface could confirm Brittney's casting as Batman

According to X/Twitter use 4thdoctorstan74, Clayface's production crew will be back on Merseyside in the UK to shoot more material for the forthcoming body horror flick between June 30 and July 1.

Now, 4thdoctorstan74 has claimed that said crew will only be filming pick up shots. These are usually shot during the post-production process to, among other things, aid a movie's pacing and narrative flow. It's highly likely, then, that the film isn't underdoing any major reshoots ahead of its late October launch.

That said, I don't think we can completely rule out the possibility that one of these pick ups could involve Brittney if he has been hired to play Bruce Wayne and his vigilante alter-ego. After all, there have been countless rumors that Batman won't appear in Clayface, which feels like a huge misstep considering, you know, the titular villain is just one of the Gotham-based crimefighter's many foes. And, with Supergirl currently struggling to make an impact at the box office, it might be in Messrs Gunn and Safran's best interests to introduce the DCU's Batman as soon as possible to maintain interest in their nascent cinematic franchise.

If — and I honestly cannot keep stressing this enough — Brittney is set to portray the legendary hero in this DC comic book universe, it would make sense for his Batman to make his debut in Clayface, even if it's just a cameo, ahead of his standalone DCU film The Brave and the Bold. All eyes, then, are on Gunn's social media accounts and the north-west of England to see whether Brittney has been tapped to play the World's Greatest Detective.

For SMBs that have spent years competing against larger businesses with bigger teams and deeper resources, that is not a small claim. It is the argument for AI in a single sentence.

Businesses still want people at the center of important decisions

Businesses remain cautious about where AI should be used — and that caution is well founded.

Research into how businesses use AI suggests hesitation is closely tied to trust. Businesses are comfortable using AI where the work is routine and easy to review. Areas involving legal judgments, people management, and financial decisions still depend heavily on human oversight.

The businesses getting the most from AI are usually clear about those boundaries. They use it to handle routine work more efficiently while keeping people closely involved in the decisions that carry real responsibility.

A few years ago, many companies were adding software faster than they could properly use it. Today, smaller businesses are becoming far more selective. Tools stay when they save time, reduce pressure, or help teams work more effectively. They disappear when they do not.

That may explain why AI is sticking. For a growing number of UK businesses, AI is no longer experimental. It is becoming part of the operational basics.

BT and Verizon have come together to form a 50:50 joint venture looking to serve around 3,000 multinational customers across more than 180 countries.

The official announcement details the creation of a new "scaled international connectivity platform" designed for a cloud-first, AI-first world.

Martijn Blanken has been appointed as CEO of the new joint venture, the name of which currently remains unconfirmed.

BT and Verizon target multinational enterprises in new JV

By combining their respective expertise, the two hope to provide enterprise customers more resilient global networking, more secure connectivity and infrastructure designed specifically for local laws, regulations and data sovereignty demands.

"Customers will benefit from new, secure and resilient connectivity platforms, which are designed for the age of AI and sovereign where it matters," BT CEO Allison Kirkby noted.

"Our international customers require secure, flexible connectivity that works seamlessly across borders and cloud environments," Verizon CEO Dan Schulman added.

The announcement also implies that, by spinning off a new JV for global enterprises, it would allow the two companies to improve focus on their domestic markets.

BT boasted about its "resilient communication and network services," and Verizon said it would bring secure connectivity via its enterprise wireline arm.

Though it's unclear which type of enterprises the JV will be targeting, it will likely bid on contracts for some of the biggest enterprises given the target of around 3,000 customers. Private enterprise networks, cloud connectivity, cybersecurity and cross-border connectivity will form the basis of the company.

According to the firms, the join venture could target around $4 billion in combined annual revenue.

• Grand Theft Auto 6 could take more than a day to download for those with slow Wi-Fi speeds
• This is according to experts at comparison website Uswitch, who estimate that the game could be around 120GB
• Pre-loading will begin on November 12 for those who pre-order the game

With Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders officially available, many are already making plans for the November 19, 2026, launch date. Developer Rockstar Games has confirmed that those who pre-order the game will be able to begin pre-loading it on November 12, and it seems making good use of that time will be incredibly important for those eager to dive in on day one.

This is because new research by the broadband experts at comparison website Uswitch suggests that the game could take over a day to download for those with slower Wi-Fi connections.

They predict that the GTA 6 file size could be 120GB, only a little more than GTA 5. This means a download time of more than one day if you're stuck on old copper ADSL connections (which offer speeds of roughly 10Mbps), while those with the UK average 170.2Mbps download speed will have to wait an hour and 34 minutes for the game to be ready to play.

Things are much better over in the US, where the average download speed is roughly 300 Mbps, with just a 53-minute and 20-second wait according to Uswitch's download time calculator.

You can use the table above to work out how long GTA 6 might take to download for you based on that 120GB estimate, though Uswitch notes that actual download times can vary based on real-world conditions like server demand and peak-time congestion.

Their in-house broadband expert, Max Beckett, says you can also make sure you're getting the best possible speeds with some "simple moves" like using an Ethernet cable to connect your router directly to your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X or Series S in order to keep speeds consistent.

He also says "positioning your Wi-Fi router in a central, open area of your home can help maximise speeds" and recommends Wi-Fi extenders to ensure coverage in larger homes.

If you're still suffering from slow speeds, then he suggests shopping around for other plans: "You may find that you can get a much faster speed for very similar prices these days."

For the past two years, the generative AI conversation has been dominated by one piece of hardware: the GPU.

GPUs supplied the parallel compute needed to train large language models, and their scarcity quickly became a proxy for AI readiness.

But that shorthand is now incomplete.

The next phase of enterprise AI will not be defined by accelerators alone.

It will be shaped by CPUs, memory bandwidth, cloud capacity, networking, and the workflow systems that allow AI to move from casual experimentation into daily business operations.

AI’s true economic impact will not come from model access; it will come from whether businesses can turn AI into reliable, cost-efficient operational capacity.

AI is Becoming an Infrastructure Problem

The first wave of generative AI adoption was largely experimental. Employees used standalone tools to draft emails, summarize documents, or write code. These ad-hoc use cases were useful, but they did not require companies to redesign how work actually gets done.

The next wave is different. As AI moves deeper into enterprise workflows, IT infrastructure requirements become exponentially more complex.

A customer service tool that drafts a response is simple. An AI system that reads account history, checks policy, updates a CRM, logs the interaction, and triggers a follow-up task is an entirely different beast. This system does not just need a powerful model; it requires compute orchestration, secure data access, software integrations, permissions, audit trails, and fallback logic.

This is where the GPU-centric view fails. While GPUs remain critical for heavy inference, CPUs coordinate how these workloads interact with databases, APIs, security layers, and operating systems. As a result, memory bandwidth, latency, and power availability are becoming the true strategic constraints.

The High Cost of Unstructured AI Usage

The early enterprise playbook was simple: give employees access to powerful tools and see what happens. While this accelerated learning, it also exposed a massive financial vulnerability. Individual, unstructured prompting is expensive, difficult to measure, and hard to tie to tangible business outcomes.

We are seeing a major corrective shift play out among tech giants. Microsoft recently began pulling back internal licenses for Anthropic's Claude Code—which was costing between $500 and $2,000 per engineer monthly due to high token consumption—and is forcing its Experiences and Devices division to transition to GitHub Copilot CLI ahead of its June 30 fiscal year-end.

Similarly, Uber completely exhausted its entire AI coding tools budget in just four months. The ride-hailing giant deployed Claude Code to roughly 5,000 engineers and aggressively stoked adoption using internal leaderboards. The experiment was incredibly effective—assisted systems generated nearly 70% of committed code—but token usage scaled faster than anyone anticipated, forcing Uber's leadership to publicly question the net ROI.

Consequently, the future of enterprise AI will move away from fragmented prompting toward a central intelligence model. Rather than thousands of disconnected interactions, companies will rely on shared intelligence layers—centralized systems that understand corporate data, apply consistent business rules, route tasks across applications, and track performance.

This model is inherently more efficient because the same intelligence is reused across workflows rather than recreated from scratch by individual users.

From Answers to Workflows

The most critical shift in enterprise tech is the transition from tools that answer questions to systems that perform work.

Traditional software is deterministic: a user clicks a button, and a system performs a known action. AI workflows are more dynamic. An agentic workflow can retrieve real-time data, reason through a multi-step process, interact with third-party software, and loop in a human for approval.

This puts immense pressure on the full technology stack. To unlock actual productivity gains, businesses need clean data infrastructure, disciplined governance, and robust integrations. Advanced models are useless if layered on top of fragmented, disconnected corporate systems.

Unprecedented Change Management and the "AI-Native" Workforce

As these agentic systems mature, the impact on global employment will trigger a corporate change management crisis on a scale never before seen. AI will fundamentally alter hiring patterns and role requirements long before it eliminates headcount at scale.

Historically, headcount was the default lever to scale capacity; more customers required more support staff. AI breaks that linear relationship. Instead of asking how many people are needed to handle an influx of volume, leaders will increasingly ask how much of a process can be handled by automated systems.

This environment will aggressively reward adaptability. Professionals who stay ahead of the technology curve, learn to design AI-enabled workflows, and manage systemic exceptions will disproportionately benefit.

Conversely, the risk of displacement is starkest for those relying purely on legacy industry experience. Traditional technical and managerial paradigms are being disrupted by a new cohort of AI-native developers, product managers, and team members. These professionals do not just use AI as an assistant; they build, manage, and think in terms of automated, model-driven systems.

Those who fail to transition from traditional operators to AI-native orchestrators risk being replaced by those who do.

AI Infrastructure is Economic Infrastructure

The broader economic impact of AI will be determined by how deeply it can be embedded into the core systems that run global businesses.

GPUs, CPUs, networking, and data centers form the physical foundation. Agent orchestration, security, and observability form the operational foundation. Together, they dictate whether AI remains a novelty or becomes a scalable business capability.

The GPU race was merely the opening chapter of the AI boom. The next chapter will be defined by the holistic compute, data, and workflow systems that allow AI to do real work at scale. That is the moment AI stops being a tool and truly becomes infrastructure.

There are some caveats, of course. The display is only 300 nits, so it's better suited to an office, home desk or lecture room than bright outdoor use. Our review also noted the keyboard, trackpad and speakers could be better, so I wouldn't buy this expecting a premium MacBook Air feel.

But considering the price, those trade-offs make perfect sense if you mainly need a portable Windows laptop that handles everyday work without any fuss.

I wasted some time looking at parts of words and convinced myself that there must be some canine-themed collection thanks to WOOFER and EMBARK, but ENDING IN PARTS OF A TREE passed me by.

My mistake was a stupid one. I knew that we were threading OLD TIMEY TROUBLEMAKERS, but I included GROOT instead of ROGUE based on some half-remembered slang rather than the Marvel character.

Meanwhile, did anyone else experience deja vu from the green group CONSUME WITH GUSTO? I’m sure we have had this quartet before.

Generative AI is capable of some astonishing feats, with image and video generators, in particular, capable of creating stunning visual scenes based on text-based instructions. Plenty of the images you can generate, however, steal the distinctive styles of iconic artists – and many of these artists aren't best pleased.

Imitation is the best form of flattery

Filmmaker Tim Burton, who created heavily stylistic films like Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas, was among several artists whose iconic styles were showcased in AI-generated images.

BuzzFeed used AI to show us what iconic Disney movies would look like if they were directed by various filmmakers, with a series of garish and creepy results.

Burton, responding to the feature, told the Independent that seeing his own artistry imitated was akin to some cultures believing that capturing your image with a camera takes something away from your soul.

These comments also tap into the debate as to whether media generated by AI can ever be considered 'original' or 'creative' – or if they're simply crude averages.

The rise of AI in the creative industries

Burton's viewpoint mimics the thoughts of the iconic Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, the mind behind Studio Ghibli hits such as My Neighbour Totoro.

"You can make horrible things if you want but I want nothing to do with it. It's an awful insult to life," Miyazaki said in response to learning an illustrator was using AI to aid with his work on Boro the Caterpillar.

But AI has increasingly infiltrated the creative industries, with several major studios finding ways to use AI in the production process, but also on-screen elements, such as in the case of Lionsgate's partnership with Runway AI.

Despite the warning from filmmakers, the trend continues, with the likes of studio A24 also partnering with Google to build AI-powered filmmaking tools.

I live in a two coffee-drinker household, and my husband and I don't always agree on what makes a perfect cup of coffee. My own personal espresso

In addition to changing out the beans, you can also save two different user profiles for each type of coffee you can make with the Ninja AutoBarista Pro.

To set up the first user profile, you select a drink, choose the brew strength, temperature, and number of shots. Press the user profile button and the User One indicator will light up. Press and hold that button for a couple of seconds until you hear a confirmation beep. Now you're all set! Do the same thing for User Two, only you'll need to press the button twice so the second user profile is indicated before doing the long press.

Once you've set up user profiles, the Ninja AutoBarista Pro will always default to User One. If you're User Two, just press the user profile button twice, so the light above User Two is lit up. Then start your brew.

This makes a heck of a lot more sense than having two different coffee machines in one kitchen in order to accommodate two different coffee drinkers' preferences. It couldn't be easier to set up and use; frankly it probably took you longer to read this article than it will take to actually do it.

Tesla has filed a trademark application for ‘Megapod’ as the company begins to expand beyond electric cars, batteries and solar energy. Already with fingers in the autonomous transportation and humanoid robotics pies with Robotaxi and Optimus, the company is now looking to build modular AI data center infrastructure.

Though the filing is based on an intent-to-use application, meaning that no commercial product is available yet, it describes a self-contained AI computing platform that includes servers, AI hardware, networking equipment, power distribution units, cooling and software.

However, the project and associated trademark application has already hit three big walls – the concept already exists, the ‘Megapod’ trademark is already owned by somebody else, and the market itself is highly crowded with Nvidia, Huawei and others already more established.

Megapod could be related to Megapack

Tesla already uses the ‘Mega’ naming strategy, as evidenced by its Megapack. A battery system that offers a similar commercial proposition to the proposed Megapod, consisting of factory-built complete modules that can be deployed quickly with minimal on-site assembly or construction.

Rather than customers assembling servers, networking, cooling and other infrastructure themselves on-premises, Megapod could arrive as a plug-and-play AI data center, expandable by its modular design.

The news comes around a year after Musk’s company reportedly wound down its Dojo AI training computer project, indicating that it’s no longer gunning for the AI chip market. It now looks like Tesla could be going after more complete physical infrastructure using existing chips, instead.

Mitsubishi already has its own MegaPod, and it possesses a trademark already. And it’s not the first time Musk has faced complications over trademarks, failing to acquire a Robotaxi trademark over it being too generic and facing Cybercab trademark delays after another applicant got in first.

Submer even sells its own MegaPod, described as a data center in a box, adding to the naming complications.

Is there room for Tesla to join the market?

Trademarks aside, if Tesla were to launch a Megapod-type product, it would face stiff competition from established rivals. Nvidia’s DGX and HGX platforms are already commonplace in enterprise deployments, and Huawei has also developed its own solutions based around its Ascend accelerators. Server manufacturers like Dell and HPE also have their own hardware.

However, Tesla could bring its broader experience to the market to entice some customers into its ecosystem. Integration with its Megapack could, for example, give it uninterrupted power supply – xAI has already purchased $1 billion worth of Megapacks. Purchasing power and other internal efficiencies could also keep costs low.

While the company doesn’t really have an existing enterprise customer base, AI startups could be sold on its tech.

Integrated cooling could also be a major selling point, with thermal efficiency now nearly as important as chip performance itself. Nvidia, for example, has already introduced next-generation liquid cooling specifically for its Rubin systems.

As for what’s next, given Musk’s track record and those of his companies, we’re probably more likely to learn about any potential Megapod developments via X posts or surprise launches, rather than blog posts and official announcements.

I’m a huge Atlus fan. I’ve played through countless games from the legendary Japanese developer, from the oddball sheep-infused puzzler Catherine: Full Body to my favorite Japanese role-playing game (JRPG) ever made, Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne, which I recently replayed on the PlayStation Portal.

But although I’d typically lean towards the moodier vibe of SMT, I can’t deny that the Persona series is what Atlus is best known for now — and for good reason. Of course, Persona 5 and its refined Royal follow-up saw the series absolutely explode in the West, and these releases sold millions of copies worldwide. But even Persona 3 and Persona 4 (across their numerous versions) are critically acclaimed, beloved releases that really laid the groundwork for P5 to blossom into the politically-charged, mysterious, and vibrant success that it became.

And now, after years of waiting, we finally have a new series entry on the way in Persona 6. The title, which was confirmed at the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, is set on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC. Although we only got a brief teaser for the game, it actually made me feel very hopeful for the future of the series. But why? And what am I expecting the new game to bring? I’ll reveal all in due course.

A more mature take?

Allow me to lay my cards on the table. I think that Persona 5 was a very good game. The Palaces felt a lot more varied than the dungeons of previous entries, the overhauled user interface was a joy to behold, the life sim elements felt a lot more fleshed out, and that soundtrack? It’s simply iconic. But out of Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5, the latter is unfortunately my least favorite.

Why? Well, it’s largely personal. Of course, I shared the frustrations others had with the hand-holding nature of Morgana in the early game; I understood people’s distaste for the Okumura boss fight, and I also agree with many fans’ critiques of the narrative — which is brilliant in moments, but a little aimless in others.

For me, though, it comes down to something deeper.

See, Persona 3’s cast had to navigate experiences of grief while investigating the chilling Dark Hour. And although it's a bit brighter than P3, Persona 4’s cast is forced to face up to their true selves — even the ugliest parts — and solve a gripping murder mystery case. P5, however, takes a more holistic, societal approach — both in terms of its narrative focus and in the way it explores its cast. And while this is largely executed well, I personally preferred the way previous games centered around internal struggle as well as their generally darker feel.

This was even reflected in the games’ environments. For instance, the stylish urban style of the setting was undoubtedly eye-catching, but the isolating nature of P4’s Inaba and the almost unsettling Tatsumi Port Island in P3 helped the darker, more mature themes bloom. There’s no denying that Persona 5 touches on some mature topics itself — the early portion of the game in particular comes to mind — but it doesn’t have that same feeling of dread that previous games conjured up.

And that brings me to Persona 6. In the teaser, we instantly get a taste of something that leans into the more unsettling roots of the Shin Megami Tensei — and in turn — Persona series.

In a short horror-themed video, we see a green-colored sky, some eerie-looking trees, and a chilling graveyard setting. We also see a headless statue, a distorted collage face, and some creepy extended hands. This is all overlaid with pouring rain, radio static, and some ambient, chilling music. Now that’s how to set the tone.

It’s very clear, then, that Persona 6 is going to lean into a more mature direction. Even the game’s Steam listing describes it as a “pulse-pounding, supernatural adventure,” and while previous entries haven’t been quite as focused on these horror elements, I’m still delighted to see the series getting darker again — it already feels like a step in the right direction.

Of course, you can still expect some light-hearted moments in the life-sim segments, and the brilliant aspects of P5 — including its slick UI and varied dungeon design — will likely return. But I’m already hopeful that Atlus will blend all of these innovations with the moodier tone of previous Persona games — hopefully resulting in a ‘best of both worlds’ experience.

What can I say, even though we don’t have a release date yet, I’m already pretty hyped.

Over the years, there's been one iPhone app that keeps drawing me back. It’s called GarageBand, and since its iOS release in 2011, it has consistently managed to keep its claws stuck into me. There’s something about being able to generate good-sounding music with just a few loops that keeps me dreaming of being a music creator!

But, as good as GarageBand is, it’s not the only kid on the block, and I’ve recently been wondering what the alternatives are. There’s Splash, WalkBand, and FL Studio Mobile, to name only a few, but I’ve recently landed on BandLab as my favorite GarageBand alternative.

BandLab is a free music-making app and one of the quickest ways to turn ideas into release-ready tracks. It’s feature-rich, comprehensive, and easy-to-use, all with a nifty (albeit ad-heavy) interface, and it's simple and intuitive to use.

The BandLab app has enough depth to deliver professional results while also being playful enough to have that GarageBand experimental feel. And as you’d imagine, there are a host of AI music generation tools to get your teeth stuck into as well. This is 2026 after all!

Creating music is a breeze

The first step involves creating music. This can be done by uploading an audio file or adding a track. I started from scratch and laid down a drum beat, which I subsequently edited. Creation and editing tools are fast, intuitive, and easy to find, so even though I was new to BandLab, I was able to find my way around without any problem at all.

From there, I entered Studio mode and started laying down multiple tracks, including voice, drum, bass, and guitar. Each instrument comes with its own interface, but with enough consistency between them to not overcomplicate navigation.

Without any formal training, I was able to add effects, crop clips, and perform auto-pitching. With over 300 sound presets, premade drum kits, and 100K+ loop and layer sounds, I effortlessly created a professional-sounding mix.

If at any time I needed to change the settings of my project, I could do so using the Project Settings tab. It's possible to change the tempo, time signature, and project key. Underneath these, there are the app's studio settings, such as changing the input device, which is your phone by default, or whether or not you want a count-in not.

From there, the library of projects becomes your friend. With it, you can manage albums, bands, playlists, and more. It’s also the easiest way to duplicate tracks for creating multiple edits of the same song.

Collaborate and share

One of the best collaboration tools centers around creating music as a band rather than individually. Any project you’ve already created can be assigned to a band, or if you create a new project, then it can be done at the point of creation. Either way, sharing your project lets other band members contribute to the creation process.

With your music created, it’s time to share it. With BandLab, publishing, sharing, and social media tools are built into the very heart of the app experience. Through it, you can easily connect and collaborate with like-minded creators on the BandLab social music platform.

Cast your mind back to the so-called "flopfest" season that is January. Only five short months ago, Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson were fronting Mercy, a new movie following a man falsely accused of murder, only to be tried by an AI-generated court.

The premise is simple: Make the AI judge believe you're innocent through a numerical threshold, and you walk free. Don't, and you die. There's no lawyer or jury — just your brain and access to your life via curated digital files.

After its theatrical release, it has been on Prime Video for the majority of 2026, and I cannot discourage you enough from watching it. It's far from the worst movie of the year so far, but it's bad enough to be a must-miss.

Without boring you too much, the production feels cheap, it struggles to retain momentum, and Pratt (whose character is hilariously also called Chris) being restrained in a chair for 90% of Mercy's runtime runs thin incredibly quickly.

But let's not talk about Mercy... instead, we need to focus on the movie Pratt recommended as a double bill. Not only does it serve as inspiration for Mercy's action, but it's arguably the most underrated Christopher Nolan movie all time.

Perfect timing ahead of The Odyssey, don't you think?

Chris Pratt reveals Christopher Nolan's Memento is a huge inspiration — and you need to stream it ASAP

"There's a little bit of Memento in this," Pratt told me shortly before Mercy's release.

"This is a character who does not know what's going on, and he's unpeeling the layers of his reality as he learns in real time what has happened."

As soon as he mentions it, I remember just how much of an astonishing viewing experience it was. Starring Guy Pearce and Carrie-Anne Moss, it follows insurance investigator Leonard Shelby (Pearce), who suffers from anterograde amnesia.

He uses notes and tattoos to hunt for the man he thinks killed his wife, which is the last thing he remembers. This means that we know as much as he does, making it one of the most unique and interactive crime thrillers of the last 26 years.

You're thrust back and forth in time with so much confusion that you're wondering if you killed your ex-wife. It's no secret just how much of an exceptional director and storyteller Nolan is... but this was only his second movie.

The talent was already off the scale, but it's no surprise that, given just how many corkers came out more recently (his Batman trilogy, Inception, and Oppenheimer, to name a few), Memento has been put on the collective back burner.

For Matrix fans, Carrie-Anne Moss is also the best female lead that Nolan could have picked. Add in sharp 2000s vibes and lashings of desperation, and you're about to stream a movie you'll never forget (unlike Mercy, which you hopefully do immediately).

Apps are the lifeblood of smartphones, and with so many to choose from, we inevitably each have our favorites. As such, the apps I'm about to suggest might not be essential for everyone, but they are for me — and you never know, you might just fall in love with them too.

These are five of the iPhone apps I use most throughout my day, so they essentially define how I use my phone. For the most part, they’re also apps that I actively enjoy spending time in.

So, if they sound interesting to you, then they’re worth a download — especially as they all have free versions.

1. StoryGraph

For a long time, Goodreads was my go-to app for logging what I’m reading, making lists of what I want to read, and finding new books, but recently I’ve largely switched over to StoryGraph.

It's a very similar concept to Goodreads but with an arguably more attractive, modern interface, and without the baggage of it being owned by Amazon — a brand I’m trying to interact with less.

But on top of that, StoryGraph also has far more stats and book details built into it, showing you things like the pace of a book, how plot-driven it is, whether it has strong character development, and more, all based on what readers have said.

You can also see how many books and pages you’ve read, how many books of each genre, what moods your books most commonly feature, how your reading has changed over time, and more. So, if you like stats, there’s a lot to dig into here.

Some features are hidden behind a StoryGraph Plus subscription, but the majority of the app is available for free.

2. Letterboxd

Unlike StoryGraph, Letterboxd is something I’ve been using for a very long time, and it’s a similar idea but for movies — so just as StoryGraph is an alternative to the bigger name Goodreads, Letterboxd is an alternative to IMDb.

But it’s more social and community-driven than IMDb, with user reviews very much being front and center of the Letterboxd experience. And as with StoryGraph, there is a wealth of stats available (though some of these are hidden behind a paywall).

You can see how many films you’ve watched, how many hours you’ve spent watching, the number of directors and countries you’ve watched films from, your most watched genres, your highest rated films from each decade, your most watched themes, and many, many other things.

Plus, of course, you can make lists, view lists created by other users, add films to your watchlist, and even rent movies — including sometimes films that aren’t available anywhere else.

3. Pocket Casts

Podcasts are the soundtrack to much of my day, and Pocket Casts is my player of choice. I won’t pretend this is the only great podcast app, but if you’re unhappy with your current player, then it’s well worth giving this one a try.

Pocket Casts has been around for a long time, and it’s gradually gotten better and better, to the point where now, I can’t think of much that could improve it.

It has an attractive interface with good discovery tools, the option to sort podcasts into folders, both dark and light themes, playlist support, the option to change the speed, boost the volume, and trim the silence, a sleep timer, videos (where available), and more.

Plus, Pocket Casts works not just on iPhone but also on Android, Apple Watch, Mac, Windows, the web, and Sonos; it also supports CarPlay, Chromecast, and AirPlay, so you can listen to your podcasts just about anywhere.

4. Proton VPN

VPNs have always been advisable from a privacy perspective, but never more so than now, when countries like the UK are increasingly requiring you to hand over identification to access large parts of the internet — often outsourcing the data collection to companies that may or may not be responsible with it.

So, VPNs are one way to avoid that risk, but they also have other benefits beyond security and general privacy, such as letting you access streaming platforms that might either not operate in your region or have a different selection of content elsewhere.

As for why I’m recommending Proton VPN in particular, I’m a big fan of Proton in general and also use some of their other services. They take privacy more seriously than some VPN companies, and their VPN has over 17,000 servers in over 120 countries, so it’s a good, reliable service, and I don’t notice significant speed drops when connected to Proton VPN either.

That said, there are plenty of other great VPN providers to consider (check out our best VPNs guide for our full list of recommendations), so while I stand by Proton VPN, my suggestion is more just to make use of VPNs in general.

5. Google Photos

Yes, Apple has its own Photos app built into iPhones, and it’s not bad. But for me, Google Photos is the superior option.

Part of that is because it works across various operating systems, so if I ever switch back to Android, I’ll still have ready access to all my photos. But even if you’re a lifelong Apple user, there are still advantages to Google Photos.

While both apps have a decent search function for finding photos through keywords, Google Photos does this best in my experience, and it comes with far more free cloud storage. So, if you want to back up a lot of photos, then Google’s offering is the clear winner there.

Ultimately, I find myself using both apps, but it’s Google Photos that I’m more passionate about — and that I’ll take with me to non-Apple devices.

• Fake tax notices are becoming delivery vehicles for sophisticated remote access malware

• The malware quietly establishes encrypted communication with servers outside the country

A new phishing campaign is using fake income tax assessment notices to deliver dangerous malware to unsuspecting victims across India.

Researchers at CYFIRMA identified the operation, which relies on a fraudulent website built to resemble official communication from the Indian Income Tax Department closely.

The fake portal, hosted on a recently registered domain, presents a convincing assessment order complete with legal references, financial penalties, and urgent compliance language designed to pressure recipients into acting quickly.

How the infection unfolds

Victims who interact with the fake notice are prompted to download a ZIP archive disguised as official assessment documentation and supporting calculations.

Once extracted, that archive reveals a disk image file functioning as a container for the actual malicious payload.

Inside sits a loader program that quietly triggers a second component, a DLL file disguised to resemble a legitimate Windows service.

Researchers found that this loader uses reflection-based techniques specifically built to make automated detection and analysis considerably more difficult.

Both files were obfuscated using a known protection tool, further complicating efforts by security teams to inspect the code.

Once active, the payload behaves like a Remote Access Trojan, granting attackers persistent, encrypted access to the infected machine.

It can collect system details, monitor user activity, check which security software is installed, and silently load additional malicious components on command.

Communication with the attacker's server happens over an encrypted channel, using a hardcoded address traced to infrastructure based in Hong Kong.

These capabilities point toward a financially motivated operation, rather than one focused on immediate damage or disruption, and they closely resemble traits associated with known commodity RAT families such as XWorm.

However, researchers note that conclusive attribution to a specific threat actor remains unconfirmed at this stage.

Why this campaign matters

This is not an isolated phishing attempt but part of a broader pattern of attackers exploiting tax season anxiety to bypass user caution entirely.

CYFIRMA's findings show the same loader-and-payload architecture has previously been linked to ransomware operators, suggesting this infrastructure may serve more than one type of attack depending on the victim.

• SpaceX is reportedly keen on a Starlink mobile network
• The company might try and build out its own infrastructure

SpaceX is reportedly planning to launch a Starlink-branded mobile network to compete with Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile in the US — though not everyone is convinced that the company will be able to make much of a dent in the market.

According to the Financial Times, SpaceX has recently shared its ambitions with investors, and intends to offer contracts to individual consumers. It already partners with T-Mobile in the US to provide emergency satellite messaging services.

This wouldn't be a satellite-based network though — that wouldn't be able to offer enough capacity on its own. The thinking is that SpaceX plans to build out its own terrestrial infrastructure, and indeed has already paid $17 billion to EchoStar for a chunk of wireless spectrum licences.

And the big three carriers have so far refused to do Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) deals with SpaceX, though some analysts are of the opinion that agreements may be worked out eventually — possibly with the EchoStar spectrum as leverage.

Satellites and broadband

Setting up a Starlink Mobile MVNO, purchasing an existing MVNO, or even acquiring an existing carrier are all options on the table for SpaceX, according to current speculation. All of those paths would seem to be easier than building new cell towers and base stations.

Analyst David Barden, from New Street Research, told the FT that it would be "incredibly hard" for SpaceX to build its own networks in a "saturated" market like the US. However, he also agrees that this might be a negotiating tactic SpaceX is using to get the existing networks to cut a deal.

SpaceX and Starlink are clearly keen on expanding their communications offerings, with next-gen satellites in the pipeline, and all of the top-end smartphones available to buy can now connect to these satellites without any extra hardware.

Add in the growing Starlink broadband business and the reported terrestrial network capacity as well, and we could be looking at a very comprehensive offering from Starlink in the not-too-distant future.

There is a particular kind of dread faced by soccer fans flying long-haul on the day of a big game. You take your seat and try to make peace with the fact that for the next nine hours, you will exist in an information vacuum before landing to a barrage of notifications telling you everything you spent the flight trying not to think about. So it felt like biting from forbidden fruit when, somewhere over the Atlantic and a few miles up, I was watching World Cup goals fly in — and they were live.

I was flying Virgin Atlantic's 'Fearless Lady', one of several newly-configured Airbus A350 aircraft connected to Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starlink Wi-Fi. The flight from Orlando to London Heathrow clashed with both Uruguay vs Cape Verde and Egypt vs New Zealand.

Games for the purists, you might think? Well, both would turn out to be among the best games of the tournament so far, so could the new satellite internet service combat my usual FOMO? A frozen frame during a film is an annoyance, but a frozen frame as a ball comes into the box is a tragedy, so I wanted to see if the airline’s new service could handle the one test that actually matters to most people: handling live sport in real time.

Starlink in numbers

Starlink is SpaceX's low-Earth orbit satellite network, and distinctly different from the in-flight Wi-Fi we’ve all suffered over the years. Traditional aircraft connectivity bounces your signal off geostationary satellites parked some 22,000 miles above the equator, which is why it has always felt like sending a postcard and waiting for the reply. Starlink's satellites sit a few hundred miles up. The round trip is dramatically shorter, and the latency is dramatically lower.

Virgin Atlantic was the first UK airline to announce Starlink being rolled out across the A350 fleet first, with the Boeing 787 and A330neo to follow, and full fleet coverage touted for 2027. For now, it's on select A350 services only, and so new that experienced cabin crew leaders told me they hadn't connected to it themselves yet.

The airline has already given the system a very public dry run, however. In May, it livestreamed an entire Sugababes performance from the Upper Class, beaming to fans on the ground via Starlink, complete with an audience Q&A. If the network could carry a full music gig without dropping a beat, a football match should be small change — in theory.

The one trick worth knowing

A top tip: If the network appears on your device’s list but won’t let you connect, toggle your Wi-Fi off and on a few times.

The Virgin Atlantic network showed up immediately in Aeroplane Mode on my iPad Pro and iPhone, but the sign-in prompt took an age to appear. My first assumption was that we were still over protected US airspace, or the turbulence we encountered on departure was to blame. Neither, as it turned out. A few flicks of the Wi-Fi toggle and the portal prompting screen sprang into life. A teething problem rather than a fault, but not something the onboard signage prepares you for.

From there, it's a series of friendly tap-through screens. A Virgin x Starlink welcome note states "You're connected. Fast, free and all yours." Then there's the etiquette rules: short voice calls only, headphones always ("Yes, always"), and a firm reminder that lights-down means calls off. It is, in essence, a polite request not to be that person everyone on the plane quietly hates.

A word on "free." It is free, genuinely, across every cabin from Economy to Upper Class, with one condition: you must be a Virgin Flying Club member to log in. Membership is free to join, so the asterisk is small, but it's there, and you're paying with your email address rather than your credit card.

120Mbps at 35,000ft

Sat next to a guy named Sam, a Chelsea fan from west London (yes, I was shocked too), we got online at the same time, once we'd cracked the toggle trick. Both of us connected via VPN to ITVX and BBC iPlayer and settled in.

I ran speed checks throughout the flight, and the best I clocked was 120Mbps, which on the face of it looks a long way short of the "up to 1 Gbps" figure quoted around Starlink's aviation product. But that gigabit figure is the total capacity for the whole aircraft, with two antennas delivering up to 500Mbps each, shared across everyone on board, not a per-passenger promise.

Seen properly, 120Mbps to a single iPad, somewhere over the ocean, with a full cabin also online, is not a shortfall, and is roughly double the speed of my rural broadband at home. That’s very impressive, with the best part being that the stream held with no buffering, pixelation, or drops in resolution at crucial moments.

I watched an entire match in full, second-screening throughout, messaging friends to dissect a goal while the live feed carried on uninterrupted beside it. The picture stayed sharp from kick-off to full-time, turbulence and all. Sam, who I suspect boarded as a sceptic, was won over. "Once I got it working, I couldn't believe how stable it was," he told me after. "Being able to message my girlfriend back in Florida is good enough, but I never expected to watch a game. I'm impressed it's free even if you're sitting in economy, and who would have thought Egypt vs New Zealand would turn out to be a bit of a cracker.”

He also made the obvious but useful point that you're not limited to the in-flight entertainment library. So if nothing in the seat-back selection appeals, you can simply log into whatever streaming service you already pay for and watch that instead. Perhaps useful for any House of the Dragon fans flying over the coming weeks.

The strange etiquette of celebrating at altitude

The one odd part of the experience you’re not prepared for is the social contortion of trying to watch live sport in a quiet cabin full of sleeping strangers. When a goal went in I had to contain myself, like an away fan stuck in the home end.

Further forward, I got chatting to Andy from Hampshire, traveling in Upper Class with his family, who flies often enough to have opinions about who he gives his money to. "I fly back and forth from the States fairly regularly on business and was interested to see that even a low-cost carrier like JetBlue is fitting Amazon's satellite broadband," he said. "Not everyone is going to like this, but it means I can get a full day's work done and that tips the needle for which airline I'd choose. Virgin Atlantic and British Airways have little choice but to keep pace or lose customers."

The wider map bears this out. Starlink is gradually being rolled out with United, Hawaiian, Qatar Airways, Air France, SAS, WestJet, Alaska, JAL, Zipair and more, and IAG (British Airways' parent) has signed a deal to fit more than 500 aircraft from 2026.

Qatar Airways has been clocking download speeds north of 200Mbps, while Amazon's Project Leo, the rival low-Earth orbit network Andy mentioned, is due to go live on JetBlue services next year. Amazon has so far launched over 350 of a planned 3,200-plus satellites.

To put that into perspective, Starlink already has over 10,000 in orbit with an eventual “megaconstellation” target of 42,000. Airbus's HBCplus platform is designed to let carriers swap between providers without ripping out hardware, which means this contest could play out over your head for years to come.

The connected cabin, in other words, is fast becoming a competitive weapon rather than a luxury when the Wi-Fi is good enough to work a full day or watch a match without compromise.

Behind the broadcast

It's worth a thought, too, for the machinery putting the match on your screen in the first place. The pictures I was watching had travelled an extraordinary distance before they reached 35,000ft, with this summer's tournament leaning heavily on Lenovo infrastructure.

This includes ThinkSystem servers at the International Broadcast Centre in Dallas, processing and pushing live feeds across more than a thousand screens at venues in near real time. Broadcast delays are driven below five seconds, with AI handling multi-angle views and the vast data pipelines behind all 104 matches.

It needn't be soccer, of course. The same connection should carry matches from Wimbledon, a full Grand Prix, or the final round of a golf major, although a full day’s play at the cricket might be pushing it, for you and the service.

Virgin Atlantic x Starlink: The verdict

What didn't work? Very little, and nothing fatal. The connection hiccup at the start would have flummoxed a less stubborn passenger, and Virgin could do worse than print "try toggling your Wi-Fi" on the welcome card.

I'd also have loved the option to throw the stream onto the big seat-back screen or mirror my iPad to it. Virgin confirmed this isn't currently possible, but is something it would like to offer in future. Watching a match on a tablet propped against a meal tray is fine, but the hardware to do it properly is right there in front of you.

Those are quibbles, but the substance is that I watched live football, in full, in real time, from a plane over the Atlantic, and it was indistinguishable from watching at home. The technology delivered it, and it did so for free in every cabin, and for that, Virgin should be congratulated. Those of you looking for a few hours' respite from work and some escapism from the real world may feel otherwise.

Octopus Energy has outlined plans for large-scale battery projects aimed at accelerating the shift towards electric freight transport across Europe.

The company is working with battery giant CATL on battery technologies for freight transport, energy storage, and grid services.

While the immediate focus falls on commercial transport infrastructure, the partnership could eventually help bring battery swapping into the mainstream European trucking market.

Battery swapping takes priority before household storage

Octopus and CATL have formed a joint venture called Swaptopus to expand battery swapping infrastructure throughout European freight networks.

Instead of waiting for charging sessions to finish, electric lorries will exchange depleted battery packs within a matter of minutes.

CATL's largest commercial vehicle batteries can reach 1000 kWh, roughly 20 times the capacity found in an average electric passenger car.

"Electric trucks already beat diesel on running costs, the challenge is keeping them moving. Battery swapping changes that. Instead of waiting for hours, trucks can be back on the road in minutes,” said Greg Jackson, CEO and Founder of Octopus Energy Group.

“By combining Octopus’s software and energy expertise with CATL’s world-class battery technology, we’re making clean freight practical at scale across Europe."

The first large battery swapping hubs are expected to begin operating during 2027, beginning with sites located within the UK.

Octopus and CATL intend to increase that network to more than 30 large hubs operating throughout Europe by 2035.

According to figures released alongside the announcement, the infrastructure could eventually support more than 300,000 electric trucks.

The companies also estimate the project could unlock more than £30 billion in private investment over the coming years.

Vehicle-to-Grid plans could support future batteries

Beyond freight transport, both companies are also examining energy storage technologies and wider electricity management opportunities across Europe.

One proposal involves expanding Vehicle to Grid technology across CATL's global network of automotive manufacturing partners and customers.

The companies believe millions of future electric vehicles could eventually return electricity back into national energy networks during demand peaks.

“Battery swapping will be a significant part of the future of commercial transport. We have field-proven this technology in China, and we are delighted to bring it to the UK and Europe…” said Dr. Robin Zeng, Chairman and CEO of CATL.

“Together, our expertise in battery swapping, B2G (Battery-to-Grid) and energy storage, paired with Octopus’s AI-powered energy trading and management technologies, will speed up the electrification of road transport across the region.”

Swaptopus believes battery swapping hubs could eventually serve purposes extending well beyond keeping electric trucks on the road.

“We believe the future of land based transport is electric and autonomous, and battery swapping is a massive part of the enabling infrastructure,” said William Rowe, CEO and Founder of Swaptopus.

“Not only does it significantly reduce down time but since the batteries at the swapping stations can be charged and discharged when the grid needs it, they act as a virtual power plant and in turn lower costs for consumers.”

You must freeze your ingredients in the provided container for 24 hours, so be sure to plan a day ahead.

Protein shakes

I've made a number of different protein-forward Creami recipes, but it might take some experimentation to find the ones you like the best. The simplest option is just to freeze a protein shake (or your milk of choice plus protein powder.) If those taste too plain or icy, you can doctor them with extras like vanilla extract, cacao powder, xanthan gum, pudding mix, collagen powder, cottage cheese, or fruit. You can process them on the CreamiFit setting if your Creami has that; if not, the Light Ice Cream setting will work. Personally, I’m not a big fan of protein powders and shakes. But if you do like them, you’ll like them even better as ice cream.

Just yogurt

Another very simple high protein option is to simply freeze a tub or two of your favorite flavored yogurt. That won't need any doctoring to produce a perfectly textured frozen yogurt treat. I used the Frozen Yogurt setting and sometimes also put it through the Swirl mechanism for a true frozen yogurt shop experience. Of course you can skip that step if you have a regular or Deluxe Ninja Creami and not the Swirl model. Either way, you'll probably want to experiment with mix-ins and toppings. Granola, fruit, and/or a drizzle of nut butter make nice breakfast frozen yogurt toppings. I’ve frozen a number of yogurts; my favorites have been apple pie, tiramisu, and creme brulee.

High protein base

Honestly, I have not yet found the perfect 'healthy vanilla Creami base', but I tried this concoction of vanilla greek yogurt, skim milk, and cottage cheese. Sure, it was healthy, and the texture was great, but it didn’t taste like much. The mangoes on top helped! There are so many recipes online, I’ll have to keep searching.

Simple frozen fruit sorbets

I often eat chia pudding for breakfast, a simple concoction of chia seeds, almond milk, and Greek yogurt. I recently made my usual chia pudding, but instead of topping it with fruit, I topped it with seeds, granola, and a few scoops of simple Ninja Creami sorbet. The one-ingredient sorbet was simply a can of peaches in juice, dumped into a Ninja Creami container. I processed it on the Sorbet cycle. This is delicious and works with any kind of fruit. Pears, mangoes, and pineapple are particular favorites. Of course, you can just make simple fruit sorbet for a light, refreshing breakfast.

Açai bowls

I made my own açai bowl with store-bought frozen açai cubes. I blended them with some fruit, milk, and sweetener and used the Lite Ice Cream setting. I topped mine with fruit, granola, hemp seeds, and almond butter, but you could also add coconut flakes, honey, yogurt, other seeds, nuts, or anything you like. This was tasty.

Yogurt, milk, and fruit

A simple cherry vanilla Creami, basically just equal parts milk of choice, vanilla yogurt, and cherries came out quite nicely. You could do this with any kind of fruit you like.

We've tested a lot of crazy workout gear over the years, from Adidas' pressurized workout shoes to elaborate virtual coaching booths, but never anything from space.

Let me confirm that I haven't actually worn anything from outer space: this is a workout layer from premium activewear company Walero, which also makes professional-grade motorsport gear. The Walero Active temperature-regulating baselayer incorporates Outlast technology, which is a fabric system originally developed for NASA to clothe its astronauts.

The Outlast website says "the most important part of fabrics and materials with this NASA technology is the microencapsulated wax, which is usually won from rapeseed oil.

"When the temperature rises, it causes the wax in the capsules to melt. During this phase shift, the temperature cannot increase any further. Heat peaks are reduced or even prevented and as a result, sweat production decreases by up to 48%."

So the wax hardens and softens inside the fabric based on the wearer's temperature, capping it. Clever.

While the Walero baselayers only consist of 20% Outlast technology, I was intrigued enough to try it when I was offered to test one. Given that I also test the best running shoes in addition to fitness gadgets, I'm always intrigued when I hear about performance-enhancing technical fabrics and materials in addition to smartwatches and other gadgets on my usual beat.

So, without further ado, I laced up my Saucony Ride 19s and hit the road, wearing it on as many runs as I could (in between washes) over a month.

Beat the heat

I tested the Ben Nevis long sleeve half-zip Walero Active top, but I found it difficult to judge its results in an objective, numerical fashion. Walero claims its kit is scientifically proven to lower heart rates by 8%, and sweat production by 30%.

However, one person's sweat production and heart rate can change dramatically for all sorts of reasons, ranging from what they've eaten that day, to the weather, to their previous night's sleep. I normally test the best smartwatches against a Polar H10 heart rate monitor to obtain numerical data, but I found it difficult to deliver any meaningful comparison data on a regular workout vs. one in the top. An 8% decrease in heart rate isn't a massive change for the average runner to measure, although it could mean everything for an elite athlete. How does a mediocre but enthusiastic runner quantify this sort of thing?

Nevertheless, after running 10 kilometers in a UK heatwave, during which I would have normally worn as little clothing as possible (and certainly not a long-sleeved top) I must admit I was partially convinced. I wore a sleeveless t-shirt underneath, and hadn't needed to remove the long-sleeved top at all during the run.

Other runs in the top, some shorter, some similar distance, were done in cooler conditions, including one in the rain. At all times, the layer stayed on, apart from one exceptionally hot day. I didn't see any historic achievements or plateau-breaking as a result of wearing it, but my runs felt strong and the top was comfortable. I didn't need to shed the layer in most hot conditions to avoid overheating, or feel like it was insufficient in cold.

Will it really increase performance?

At the end of the day, it's a very premium-priced (a hefty £195, around $250 / AU$370) baselayer with a nice feel. Will it increase performance? Perhaps. It's definitely going to be a go-to when exercising in the cold, as the 'layering problem' rears its ugly head most often in transitional seasons. You start out cold, and end up baking due to over-layering. I see this piece as an answer to this issue.

One independent study testing the thermo-regulation property of Outlast fiber by means of thermal analysis found that the 'smart fiber' as its called, has "been certified [for] its obvious capability of temperature regulation". So the Walero top will reduce sweat and keep your body regulated with its 20% Outlast fibers woven into its construction, in theory.

In practice, for most of us, it's a fun novelty that seems ideal to wear in most conditions, and most suited to cooler changeable weather. You'll get a lot of wear out of it as it's very adaptable, but it's certainly more expensive than most baselayers. It's a cool gimmick to chat about as you queue up at the startline of your local parkrun, but whether it represents good value will depend on your budget. An amateur athlete looking to save money (most of us) won't get enough mileage out of this top to justify the expense, while a high performer with deep pockets will likely live in it due to its thermo-regulating qualities.

OpenAI says ChatGPT has become less literal and more conversational after quietly updating GPT-5.5 Instant for everyone. Naturally, I wanted to know whether I could actually tell the difference.

After spending the day chatting with the updated model, both by text and in Voice Mode, I came away with mixed feelings. Some conversations did feel more natural, but others reminded me we're still a long way from talking to AI as effortlessly as we talk to another person.

Rather than making ChatGPT dramatically smarter, OpenAI says the update should make it feel easier to talk to. The AI is supposed to infer what you're trying to accomplish instead of taking every prompt literally, adapt more naturally when you change your mind, and keep track of the thread of a conversation without needing as many reminders.

Fade into the background

Now, a lot of that will naturally fade into the background as you talk to ChatGPT, since none of it is designed to stand out, so it can be hard to quantify if the update is objectively better. In my own testing, I noticed ChatGPT felt quicker to adapt when I clarified what I wanted. Instead of sticking rigidly to its original interpretation, as it often does, it seemed more willing to adjust course as the conversation evolved.

I still have to tell it if it's off the mark, but I get the feeling that it’s actually listening to me and is going to remember what I want and deliver it next time.

It's not reading my mind. I still have to tell it when it's misunderstood me. The difference is that, once corrected, it feels more likely to carry that feedback through the rest of the conversation instead of slipping back into its original interpretation.

In fact, I’ve been quite impressed by how much more insightful it appears when I bounce ideas off it. Instead of simply agreeing with my first suggestion, it's become a little more likely to ask whether I'd considered a different angle.

Voice Mode

Of course, because Voice Mode also uses GPT-5.5 it has also received an update. To test it out, I fired up ChatGPT Voice Mode on my iPhone and had a quick chat with the AI. Despite it telling me that it now had “more nuance and contextual awareness” I didn’t really notice a difference in this mode.

I decided to try tripping it up with a bit of sarcasm. When I replied "No way!" after one of its suggestions, ChatGPT took me completely literally and assumed I wanted to end the conversation. So much for all that extra contextual awareness.

Using ChatGPT in Voice Mode still feels a bit unnatural to me, just like it did before. I still prefer to ‘talk’ to ChatGPT via text.

So, while the GPT-5.5 update means that ChatGPT may have just got a bit more natural to converse with, at least by text, I’d say we’re still a way off completely smooth human / AI vocal interaction. At least we’ve taken a small step in the right direction.

There's 50% off a ton of The Criterion Collection's 4K Blu-rays at Barnes & Noble, so I thought I would pick my six favorite discs, all of which I've tested as part of the Blu-ray Bounty. This is our monthly feature where I try the latest 4K releases, judging whether they make a worth addition to your collection.

Criterion is a regular feature in the Blu-ray Bounty because it's superb at 4K restorations. Double Indemnity is still one of my top examples of what 4K can do for a classic movie, while Breakfast Club and Chunking Express are much more colorful, bolder movies that show off Criterion's 4K prowess.

Dead Man is another black and white, contrast-rich move that looks staggering in 4K, and 3:10 To Yuma (1957) is another Western classic that shines in this image quality. Yi Yi is a quietly brilliant 4K restoration that has its moments where it will know you out, but looks great throughout.

Double Indemnity

Double Indemnity tells the story an insurance agent (Fred MacMurray) who conspires with the wife (Barbara Stanwyck) of a wealthy man to capitalize on his life insurance using a particular clause.

Double Indemnity is an excellent-looking 4K disc. The restoration is fantastic, and has not only given textures a 3D-like effect, but contrast looks superb as well. Black tones are inky, whites have a nice, punchy brightness to them, and there's a great range of gray tones to give the picture more depth. There's still film grain present for cinephiles, but new life has been breathed into this movie. If you have one of the best TVs, this contrast-rich disc will look superb.

Despite only having a monaural soundtrack, dialog is clear throughout and sound effects are accurately mapped to the action on screen. The score is delivered with real clarity too.

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is John Hughes' classic '80s coming-of-age story about five high school kids from different backgrounds serving a Saturday detention at the same time.

Where The Breakfast Club really thrives in 4K is in its color reproduction. Reds in particular pop on screen, shown in the reds of Bender's plaid shirt and the glossy Coca-Cola cans as the gang eats their lunch. Textures have been upscaled nicely, giving skin a realistic look but there's still film grain retained to keep the movie's iconic look.

The disc's DTS-HD 5.1 MA soundtrack sounds great. While not an audio showcase, it delivers the smaller details with precision, such as the scratching of a pencil, the squeaking of Bender's leather boots or the incessant ticking clock in some scenes.

Dead Man

Dead Man tells the story of William Blake (Johnny Depp), a banker on the run who meets a Native American named Nobody (Gary Farmer) who believes he is the reincarnation of William Blake the poet.

Dead Man looks awesome in 4K. With some of the richest contrast I've seen on a 4K Blu-ray before. Presented in black and white, white tones are stunning and black tones are deep and bold. This is balanced with a big range of gray tones to give the picture real depth. Textures are crisp and and look incredibly lifelike, especially in the marks on people's faces. Those with one of the best OLED TVs will be rewarded here.

Equipped with a DTS-HD 2.0 MA soundtrack, speech is clear throughout and the chugging guitars of Neil Young's excellent soundtrack is refined, powerful and balanced. Other effects such as gunfire are clear too.

Chungking Express

Chungking Express follows the story of two different policemen in Hong Kong, both of whom fall in love. One falls for a mysterious woman, while the other falls for a server at a restaurant he regularly visits.

Chungking Express is a visually engaging movie that's given another dimension on 4K. While there's no HDR included, colors are still punchy and vibrant, whether it's the neon of the Hong Kong markets or Faye's bright yellow top. Textures have been upscaled here too, with details in the wrinkled shirt of the cop or in people's hair, it's a great-looking restoration.

Throughout the movie, the DTS-HD 5.1 MA soundtrack does a great job of capturing the immersive feel of Hong Kong's busy streets. Clinking plates, raised conversations and horns of passing traffic are all accurately placed and well-balanced, allowing each element to come through loud and clear. Through a great surround system, this will sound totally immersive.

3:10 To Yuma (1954)

3:10 To Yuma tells the story of rancher Dan Evans (Van Heflin) who is tasked with guarding and escorting an outlaw named Ben Wade (Glenn Ford) until the train to the town where his trial takes place arrives.

3:10 To Yuma (1957) is another superb Criterion restoration of a classic movie. Contrast is strong, again with punchy white tones, rich black tones and a full range of grays in between. Textures look detailed and realistic, with the deep frown lines on Dan Evans' head or the stubble and sweat on various character's faces showing the brilliance of this 4K disc.

There are two soundtrack options but really it's the DTS-HD 5.1 MA mix that shines. There's deep, rumbling bass from the gallop of horses, precise placement of gunfire and clear speech throughout. The soundstage is wide enough that all these elements are given ample room, delivering an immersive sound overall.

Yi-Yi

Yi Yi follows the story of the Jian family, who are based in Taiwan, focusing on the perspectives of three family members in particular: N.J, the father; Ting-Ting, his teenage daughter and Yang-Yang, his young son.

Yi Yi is a detailed and sometimes visually striking 4K disc. Textures such as hair and skin look realistic and the disc does a great job of showing off the more intricate details in environments. Every so often, the disc then hits you with a reference-level scene, namely the wedding at the start. The bold, punchy of the reds really pop on screen, and yet still manage to look natural. There's still a good amount of film grain retained, too.

While there aren't many sound system-testing scenes, dialog is consistently clear and there is a good sense of space to the mix. One karaoke scene does a great job of utilizing every channel in a sound system, with the singer's voice from the center and the applause of audience from the reae speakers.

Grand Theft Auto VI is not due on consoles until November 19 2026, but official preorders open soon, and cybersecurity researchers have warned criminals are already exploiting the wait with a coordinated wave of fraudulent websites.

Malwarebytes and NordVPN have both flagged sites promising "VIP early access" or exclusive beta keys to one of gaming's most anticipated releases.

The schemes ask victims to hand over money, personal information, or both, often before any real product changes hands.

How the scam works

Some fraudulent sites ask players to pay a few hundred dollars in cryptocurrency for a so-called VIP beta key. This method makes refunds or fraud reports practically impossible once the payment clears.

According to Stefan Dasic of Malwarebytes, GTA VI is "the perfect bait" that can be used by cybercriminals.

The franchise sold hundreds of millions of copies and went 13 years without a new entry — conditions that make hype, and therefore impatience, unusually intense.

Gerald Kasulis of NordVPN said scammers now use AI to mimic Rockstar's official branding so convincingly that polished emails and websites slip past a gamer's usual scepticism.

Some pages invoke the phrase "help us build Vice City," a reference to the game's fictional setting, to create a false sense of insider access.

Victims are sometimes directed to download software branded as an early build, including one fake file called GTA Mobile 6.

According to researchers, this file contains malware capable of letting fraudsters remotely access the victim's device, often bypassing antivirus software.

NordVPN has separately traced some of these fraudulent domains to a wider network with a documented history of spreading banking trojans, infostealers, and ransomware.

Other variants simply harvest names, addresses, dates of birth, or existing GTA login credentials, data that can then be resold.

Several of these scam sites even target PC and Android users, despite Rockstar never confirming that those versions exist yet.

Who is being targeted?

The typical victim tends to be someone too young, too eager, or simply underinformed, and primarily driven by a desire to be first in line for the game.

However, Malwarebytes' assessment of the scam wave reveals that the trick itself is rarely sophisticated, yet it consistently fools people regardless of age.

The character of those falling for these scams goes beyond simple naivety, since urgency and curiosity are what scammers are really exploiting across these campaigns.

Younger players and newcomers to online gaming appear especially exposed, given their relative unfamiliarity with how official preorder and beta access processes normally function.

Neither company has data on exactly how many people have visited these sites or lost money so far.

Rockstar Games has not responded to requests for comment on the ongoing scam wave or its impact on players.

Security researchers are urging anyone tempted by claims of early GTA VI access to pause and verify the source before entering any personal or financial details.

Players who have already entered credentials or payment information are advised to change their passwords immediately.

They should also contact their bank without delay, since cryptocurrency payments in particular cannot be reversed once sent.
