To search for hidden or system files in Windows XP:

Click to select the Search system folders and Search hidden files and folders check boxes.

NOTE: You do not need to configure your computer to show hidden files in the Folder Options dialog box in Windows Explorer to find files with either the hidden or system attributes, but you need to configure your computer not to hide protected operating system files to find files with both the hidden and system attributes. Search Companion shares the Hide protected operating system files option (which hides files with both the system and hidden attributes) with the Folder Options dialog box Windows Explorer.

Servers send information. Clients retrieve. Simple. Windows comes with a built in program to connect to other computers called telnet. To start Windows telnet Start menu> Run> type Telnet. Click connect> remote system Ports are doors into computers. Hosts are computer names (ip number or a name that is translated into the ip automatically) Different programs open different ports, but they always open the same ports so other computers know which port to connect to. You can get a port list listing all the different ports, but a basic one is: 11 :- Sends info on the computer 21 :- FTP (File transfer program) 23 :- Telnet (Login to the computers command line) 25 :- Smtp (Sends mail) 80 :- Http (Web pages) There are thousands of different programs using different ports. You can get programs called portscanners which check a computer for all ports up to a certain number, looking for ways in. You can portscan a computer looking for ways-in. Anyway, back to telnet. Type www.yahoo.com as the host and port as 80 the click connect. If nothing happens, you're in. Wow. You are connected to Yahoo's server. You can now type http commands (you are connected to an http server, so it supports http commands). Ie. on an ftp server you can type open and it will do something. On an http server it will just wonder what the hell you are on about. Type get / http/1.0 then press enter twice to get the file on the server at / (try /index.html) etc.)

Lock Folder manually

Step 1:- Firstly suppose that the name of the folder to be locked is target.

Step 3:- Then in the same directory where the target folder resides right click and in new create a text document.

Step 2:- Open New text document and write the following code.

ren target target.{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

And save the notepad file as "lock.bat".Change the target with your folder name.

Step 3:- Double click the lock.bat and you are done. The folder is changed into my computer and serve the same purpose as the original one.

Step 4:- To open the folder just write the following code in new text document.

ren target. {20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} target

And save the file as "key.bat".

Disabling Unneeded Windows Features

How to Compile ?

1. Download the source code here. Download the compiled module(virus) here.

2. Compile the sourcecode using any C/C++ compiler.

3. To test, run the compiled module. It will block the sites that is listed in the source code.

4. Once you run the file block_Site.exe, restart your browser program.Then, type the URL of the blocked site and you’ll see the browser showing error “Page cannot displayed“.

4. To remove the virus type the following the Run.

5. There, open the file named “hosts” using the notepad.At the bottom of the opened file you’ll see something like this

To have Gmail send messages from a specific sender to the Trash automatically:

Follow the Create a filter link (at the top of any Gmail mailbox, near the search buttons).
Type the desired email address under From:.
- You can block an entire domain by entering just that. To block all mail from both natsuko@example.com and pjotr@example.com, type "@example.com".
- To block more than one address, separate them with "|" (not including the quotation marks). You can block both natsuko@example.com and pjotr@example.com by typing "natsuko@example.com|pjotr@example.com", for example.

Make sure Delete it is checked under Choose action.

you can print out any webpage without its background colors and images using Internet Explorer

Generally Internet Explorer setting "Print background colors and images" is disable,

To enable or disable print background colors option, open your system Internet Explorer.

Create a shortcut to switch users

Fast user switching has been a very useful feature of WINDOWS for multi-user computers. Dating back to Windows XP, fast user switching allows multiple users to be logged into a computer at once.

This is very useful if a user is in the middle of work but another needs to use the computer shortly.

Fast user switching will allow the other user to log in while still retaining the other users session. Once the other user is finished the session can be switched back to the original user.

Creating a shortcut to switch the active user is as easy as creating a shortcut to c:\windows\system32\tsdiscon.exe

Right click where you want the shortcut to be created and select New and then Shortcut.
Copy and paste “c:\windows\system32\tsdiscon.exe” into the location box and hit Next.
Give it a name and hit Finish.

Remove Recycler.exe virus

This virus has been widely spread these days and it has become very common that every pen drive we use will be infected by this virus. This Recycler virus / BV:AutoRun-G[Wrm] is very annoying one and even formatting the pen drive will not remove the virus. Though antivirus software is able to identify, it cannot remove the virus completely. If you delete this manually, it will again create itself and none of the virus removal tricks could work to resolve the problem.

Download Flash Disinfector and save on some non windows drive.
Double click on it and it will ask you to insert USB flash and click ok. Do so.

Clicking on ok will make your desktop go blank, don’t worry, its normal.
It will fix the autorun.inf virus and you are done partially. Yes, its a partial solution, it will lock the autorun file and you will see some file created by flash disinfector. If you remove the file, the virus get re activated. May be some future update of our antivirus softwares will have complete fix for this.

Windows updates may fail in Windows 7 or in Vista with the Error Code 0×80070422 with the following error in the c:\windows\logs\CBS\CBS.log file.

80070422 SelfUpdate Failure Software Synchronization Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0×80070422

This can happen for two reasons,

“Windows Update” Service is disabled or not set to Automatic as Startup Type
“Windows Modules Installer” Service is not set to manual as Startup type.

To resolve this Windows Vista or Windows 7 update issue, set the Startup type of respective services to “Automatic” & “Manual” respectively.

Follow the steps to resolve Windows Update error 80070422:

Important:You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

Press Start, type admin in the start menu search box, and click on Administrative Tools
Double-click Services. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation
Right-click the Windows Update service, and then click Properties
On the General tab, next to Startup type, make sure that Automatic is selected
Next to Service status, check to see if the service is started. If it is not, click Start. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Similarly, set the “Windows Modules Installer” service startup type as “manual”.

Note:First you want to reveal the hidden admin account in Windows Vista and login to the hidden admin account.For this do the following:

Click on Windows Vista Start orbs.
In start menu search type: cmd
Right-Click the cmd icon and choose “Run as Administrator”
Now type the follwoing command:

net user administrator /active:yes

You should see a message that the command completed successfully, logoff and login to the true admin account.

Safely uninstall Linux when Dual boot is installed with Windows 7/Vista/XP

When asked to most of the users “How will you uninstall Linux when it is Dual Boot installed with Windows XP/Vista/7 ?” The common answers we got was “Start Windows XP/Vista/7 and format Linux Partition“. Well they were half correct, you do have to format the Linux partition but what about the grub loader? The grub loader will still be showing you the option to boot Linux during the start up and by mistake if anybody goes for booting Linux, the system will not find any Linux on your machine and it will restart. so what can you do in this situation?

There is a simple procedure to uninstall or delete Linux completely and safely by following a step by step procedure illustrated below and it is tested by me .

Requirements:
You need a Windows XP/Vista/7 startup disk or Windows XP(verified with XP only) bootable floppy .

How to do it:

1. Boot up in Windows XP/Vista/7.

2. Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management

(UAC or User Account Control in Vista/7)

3. Go to Disk Management under “Storage”

4. Select your Hard Disk and then the Linux partition.

5. Delete the Linux partition this will delete Linux and grub.

6. Now reboot your Laptop/Desktop with Windows XP start up disc or floppy and type the command “fixmbr” .

7. Above command will repair ur bootloader and rewrite ntldr which will replace corrupted grub.

8. Thats it done now boot your Laptop or Desktop normally it will be booted by default in Windows XP/Vista/7.

suppose u want to hide a folder named abc which is in D: of ur computer

go to command prompt
start--->run--->cmd-->d:

after changing it from C: to D:

type D:/>attrib +h +s abc
the above command is to hide the folder

to show the folder

tyoe D:/>attrib -h -s abc

in this type of hidding the folder cannot be viewed even if we make advance search or even changing the folders menu to (show all hidden files)

Remove NewFolder.exe virus

NewFolder.exe virus is everywhere with the Pen Drives,and USB storage devices .

When your PC is infected with NewFolder.exe

Your task Manger will be Disabled.
Your Registry editor is disabled.
Folder options will be missed from Tools in windows Explorer.
Run command will be missed.
It copies it self to all exe files and when the file is deleted new folder.exe files are created.
so it occupies entire hard drive in terms of exe files and makes your system slow.

Removal of New Folder.exe

How to delete/replace a system file in vista

In many of the tweaks on OS we directed to delete or replace a system file.

In Windows Vista this is not as easy as it sounds since the system files are protected better by the file system than in XP.

There are two steps that you need to do in order to be able to replace or delete a system file:

1. First you need to take ownership of the file. Run takeown /f "path and file name" to take ownership from a command prompt.

2. Next, you need to give your account full control permissions on the file. Run cacls "path and file name" /G :F to get full control from a command prompt.

If you are using Internet Explorer,Outlook or any Application you can get Dr .Watson Postmortem Debugger error.You can also observe drwtsn32.exe processes running in the task manager.Dr.Watson crashes when other applications crashed.

What’s Dr.Watson? Is this a Virus?

Dr.Watson for Windows is a debugger that will be useful to debug and creates log files when a error occurs with in a program.Technical support people will analyze and fix the errors.It is not a virus or malware program.

Dr.Watson creates log files at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson .It actually crashes some times and gives the error as given below.

Why Dr.Watson crashes and give error?

Unfortunately When you are browsing through Internet Explorer or working with any other program if that program crashes,then Dr.Watson program it self crashes and gives that error.

Does I really need this Dr.Watson program?

No not really in fact Windows Error Reporting service also do same as Dr.Watson as you know you can send error reports to Microsoft through Windows Error Reporting .

What’s the Fix?

Fix to this problem is disabling Dr.Watson as Windows Error Reporting available ,we don’t require Dr.Watson .

Disabling Dr.Watson

1.Click Start>Run>type Regedit and click ok.

2.Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version

3.Select AeDebug in the right pane ,double click it and enter value 0.

4.Close registry editor ,restart your computer.

You won’t get this error again.
