However I would want something more than just those features. I would love to see something which can take the gadget to the next level. I know that Google Glasses will have an in-built video player. But something is making me that it won’t be enough. It will lack some features which will suit the glass. A video player with many advance features should come out having almost each and every option a video player should have. Like multiple subtitles, sound equaliser, network streaming, brightness control, etc. I am sure that a video player like that would make me watch movies on the glass.

Auto Bar Code and QR Code scanner

We have the Application of scanning Bar and QR code on our smartphones. But taking out the phone, scanning the code and fetching results take a considerable amount of time. But in the glass, a program can be added on the background which can automatically read bar codes and display the result when asked. This would be better than using the ones in our smartphones.

Product Review

If in case I go for shopping, I would love to buy the product which is better than others. I want an App to identify the product and tell me if it’s worth the money or simply suggest me another one which is better than it. Or if I am in a bookstore, I would love to see if there is any online market providing me the same thing for lesser price. Moreover I would also like to read reviews of the people who have read the book.

Onscreen translator

Imagine you are in a foreign country and come across a board or a hoarding which is in a language you don’t understand. An app which translates that to me back in English or my mother tongue would just please me. It would help us not get scammed by anyone. Moreover it would be good to have that while learning a new language.

I want an App which would capture a photo every 15 - 20 minutes. That way whatever happened in the entire day can be summarised and be kept as a diary or a memory book.

There are many web sites who host .swf files for video. We need to buffer the file to watch the video or the animation whatsoever.

Sometimes it happens that it gets stuck on buffering and doesn't move even when you wait for years. ;) So I've found a solution to Save Flash File Using Firefox.

If it is hosted on reliable sites like Youtube, Metacafe, Daily Motion or any similar video hosting site, then there will be no problems. But when it is hosted on a ordinary website's server. You may face issues in viewing the file.

So I find for the solution of it, and came off with this solution. You can save .swf files directly to your computer using this simple trick. All you need is FireFox web browser. It is very popular web browser with lots of features in it.

This is one of its features. You can save any flash file from any website to your hard drive using this trick.

Here is the formula to Save Flash Files With FireFox:

Go to the page where you found the Flash File.

Now right click on that page anywhere (where its blank space).

Select View Page Info.

It will bring up to a pop-up box with the information of page in it.

At top, you will see Media Option. Click it.

Now Scroll down and find the file with .swf extension in it.

Now click on Save As.

A navigation box will pop up, now choose the path where you want to save the file.

It will be downloaded to the area you chose. !

Enjoy !

Now you have successfully saved the Flash File to Your Hard Drive.

You can view it with Peace now, no buffering or no lags. :)

Clash Of The Flagships: HTC One vs Sony Xperia Z vs Samsung Galaxy S4

The dawn of 2013 had some exciting new launches from the cellphone giants: HTC, Samsung and Sony. Lets take a quick glimpse at what they have to offer.

Design

Although all the three of them have a very similar screen size, when it comes to design, they are words apart. HTC has come up with this amazing aluminium unibody, whereas Sony has gone all glass. Samsung, is playing it safe by sticking to the polycarbonate plastic body like the previous Galaxy devices. Some may find it 'cheap', some may find it premium.

Screen

The S4 and Xperia Z come with a 5 inch 1080p resolution display, but the One has a smaller 4.7 inch display with the same resolution. The One and Z offer LCD displays, but the S4 has its Samsung special 'SUPER AMOLED' display. The Xperia Z comes with a mediocre TFT LCD whereas the One comes with a rather better technology: Super LCD3. In terms of contrast and brightness, the AMOLED display wins.

CPU and RAM

The HTC, Sony and Samsung are all packed with 2GB of RAM. The S4 is powered by an Octa Core processor ie a 1.6 GHz Quad core processor and a 1.2 GHz Quad core processor, whereas Xperia Z and HTC One are powered by quad core processors clocked at 1.5Ghz and 1.7Ghz respectively. Here are some benchmark tests we ran.

Camera

All three of them have brilliant cameras. The Xperia and S4 come with a 13MP sensor, but the HTC comes with a 4MP sensor. This may sound weird at first, but HTC has come up with a whole new technology called UltraPixel. In this, the size of the pixel is larger and the size of the sensor is 1/3rd that of any other regular 8 or 13MP snapper. Because of this, the camera can capture 300% more light. All three of them record video at 1080p resolution. The S4 has a 2 MP front camera, the HTC has a 2.1 MP front camera and the Xperia has a 2.2 MP camera. Not much of a difference though.

Battery life

The HTC One comes with a 2300 mAh non removable battery and the Xperia Z comes with a 2330 mAh non removable battery. But the S4 comes with a 2600 mAh removable battery. That is one more plus point for the S4. The S4 also has an option of wireless charging, but a separate accessory is required which does not come with the box. Another thing that worries us is that with such powerful battery and 8 cores, will the S4 have heating issues??

Storage

The S4 comes in 16/32/64 GB variants and the Xperia Z comes only in a 16 GB version. Both these phones have microSD slots, so expandable memory isn't a problem. The HTC comes in 32/64 variants but unfortunately, no expandable memory.

This year's smartphones have brought new technologies, upgraded the old technologies and set a new standard in the world of mobile phones. Will the leading giant Samsung and it's 'Life companion' win over the market or will the 'SENSE'ible HTC take it home or will the 'best of Sony in a smartphone' actually be the best in the market?

CM10 for Galaxy Ace Plus

Galaxy Ace Plus is a Mid-level Android smartphone. It is equipped with a 5 MP Camera, 3.65 inches screen and a stock Gingerbread running. It came as a little disappointment as it wasn't included with the new version of Android that is the Ice Cream Sandwich. However as time passed, the Samsung developers promised a Jell Bean update for Galaxy Ace Plus users. Till now Samsung hasn't done anything about that. In my recent phone call to the Samsung care center the person informed me that there wont be any Galaxy Ace Plus Jelly Bean update.

Being an Indian, the first thing I tried to see was, if there are any Indian newspapers. Well, I was very happy to see that there were 115 newspapers just from India.Next thing I did was download Times of India, which apparently is my favorite newspaper.

Reading Experience

Reading the newspaper was extremely crispy and smooth. I could quickly rush through all the pages without any lag. The option of looking through pages for landing upon the page wanted was aone of those features which takes the app to the next level. Zooming too is flawless and does exactly what is expected. The content present in the articles has click-able URLs, phone numbers, addresses and emails. Which can be of great use if we wanted to access those. Imagine doing that with a normal printed newspaper, you will have to manually enter the URL, phone number, email and other things, which not only wastes a lot of time, but also is inaccurate at times.

User Interface and Settings

User Interface is pretty simple and informative. You can easily navigate through all the options available and read without getting into much turmoil. The application guides you itself and creates a comfortable environment while reading.

Price and Plans

The App is itself free however downloading and reading newspapers is priced as low as 0.99$. Along with this plan, the App also gives us the option of spending $29.95/month which will allow the user a full fledged downloading the entire month without any restrictions.

With almost all phone carriers choosing 4G LTE as their preferred technology, could we be about to see a worldwide standard in telecommunications?

Trying to map the evolution of mobile networking is difficult due to the plethora of confusing acronyms and tech language involved, but here is a guide to the journey that mobile networking has taken so far and to how the future may look with 4G.

1G and 2G

The primary distinction between the first generation (1G) and the second generation (2G) of mobile phones is that the former worked via analogue and the latter worked digitally (allowing for the invention of text messaging and other digital data services). The way in which phones were programmed to receive 2G data however varied, as there was no industry standard at the time and different countries allowed the development of different technologies. This led to the creation of three distinct types of data transfer protocol, GSM, CDMA and TDMA (the later of which was later incorporated into GSM).

The primary difference between GSM and CDMA was the way in which they access signal. With CDMA each call on a network is given a unique code which allows all of the signals to be transmitted simultaneously whilst still reaching the correct destination. GSM however simply split the allocated spectrum based on time, so that callers in essence took turns using the network. At first, CDMA phones and networks tended to be slightly faster and because of this the technology caught on in the American market. In the rest of the world however, GSM took hold and many tech companies and inventors made use of its adaptability. In the ‘2.5’ era, several add-ons were created for GSM like GPRS and EDGE which increased the flexibility and speed of the technology.

3G

Third generation or 3G mobile standards were supposed to allow for increased data speed which would enable usable of mobile internet, and at first many thought this would lead to unified standards and the end of the GSM versus CDMA battle. While an industry group did meet to try and design a universal standard in 2003, they were unable to agree on a course of action. Therefore those behind GSM and CDMA standards simply developed upgraded versions of their existing technologies, prolonging the split and angering consumers.

GSM and TDMA evolved together to create the new 3G WCDMA/UMTS standard (still sometimes referred to as GSM) whilst CDMA carriers simply upgraded to CDMA 2000. Again, GSM’s ability to evolve with new 3G add-ons like HSPA allowed them to gain a technological advantage, and soon flaws in CDMA’s system (like being unable to call and transmit data at the same time) began to emerge. While CDMA was originally the ‘better’ technology during the 2nd generation, GSM’s worldwide coverage allowed it to evolve on a grander scale. While CDMA survived due to massive companies like Verizon being able to pressure manufacturers into making CDMA compatible phones, they have so far continued to be on the back foot.

4G

The choice of 4G LTE has been been a popular one for mobile networks, meaning that for the first time mobile networks both in the US and worldwide are converging on the same standards. As both GSM and CDMA networks naturally progress to 4G LTE, disparate networks like Verizon, Sprint and AT&T will all one day be using the same standards.

That does not mean however that there will suddenly be a miraculous interchangeability between phones and networks: different networks are still using different bands which prevents complete compatibility, and US networks will still use their separate GMS and CDMA 3G networks as back-ups for at least a decade. Hopefully though, all companies using the same technology standards for 4G will eventually put an end to the confusing acronym parade and let consumers make the best choices based on their own needs and not on the technological boundaries set by carriers.
