Import mails and contacts from other accounts to Gmail

It’s been a quite long when everyone switched from various other mail accounts to Gmail not because it belongs to the GOOGLE family. We always had good reasons to support, may it be different interfaces like standard, HTML, Mobile or Text or may it be the first of its kind with huge amount of space for free and others features like chat, filters, labeling of mails and also one account to use so many applications.

Even after so long we still have to track other accounts as well but Googlers have found a solution to this also…

Now one can track his other email accounts like Yahoo!, Hotmail, AOL, etc. by using the one single Gmail account.

To start with this one needs to go to “Gmail Settings” and then to “Accounts and Imports” tab. Remember if u have an old Gmail account this feature may not available for u now but it is there for new accounts, Google will soon be upgrading the old accounts.

In the meanwhile if you are so eager to use this service then create a new Google account and use this feature and again redirect all the mails to your old existing account…

Image In-lining in Gmail

This is a new feature added to Gmail to avoid its users waiting to upload and attach an image. Also this gives it a nice appearance.

All you need to do is that in the in rich formatting mode just click on the image icon and there you will have two ways to add images i.e., uploading images directly from your computer or by providing URLs.

Palm to release next-generation operating system

We all know palm since long has been deveoping and releasing operating systems for mobile phones an smartphones.Here's some history for u:

In 2003 palm developed and released the palmsource(software) along with the hardware (palm) which could not gain much appreciation and the company has been on a declining spree since then.It has been known only for it's palm centro since the start of this century.Another well-known collaboration of the palm was with microsoft releasing the Windows Mobile-based Treos.

Now palm plans to take the world by storm by releasing the next generation Nova powered smartphone

The device will have a full QWERTY keyboard that will slide under the touchscreen.

Nova is based on Linux and the company hopes to bring back it's lost glory through this move.

Apparently Lenovo is planning to unveil a ThinkPad notebook with a dual display in a about a month's time,though this is a news yet to be released but here are some of the features that are planning to be included in this unique new laptop

As the name suggests it's a laptop with dual screens,the main screen is 17 inches and the secondary screen is 10.6 inches.

The dual-screen setup is basically designed for photographers, graphic artists, and application developers.

It offers either an Intel Core 2 Quad Core or a Core 2 Dual Core, and it can be configured with a solid-state drive.

One drawback to this laptop can be the increase in weight due to the weight of the other screen but the features overshadow the drawbacks and is a good buying option with additional features like the face recognition tool.

The lappy will be released in a month's time in las vegas at the consumer electronics show.

Google announced that its Google Friend Connect product, which plugs social-networking features into participating sites, is now compatible with Twitter.

Well this enables you to log on to a site which uses google friend connect with your twitter id and password.Also, you can send out a "tweet" announcing that you've joined up.

Now for those of you who do not know wat twitter is ,twitter was one of the launch partners for the MySpace Data Availability service, now known as MySpaceID which is not launched as yet but the introduction of this feature indicates that the project is definately underway.

Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome release their latest versions

On monday mozilla released it's latest version of the firefox 3.1 beta.since we all are addicted to using firefox a lot some enhanced features include:

1.Incorporates a new java script engine called 'Tracemonkey' which helps web applications to load faster.

2."Private Browsing Mode" that enables users to surf the Net without leaving a trail of URLs and histories.Moreover history can be deleted according to the time used i.e if wanted not all the history can be deleted and sum can be retained with well defined history deletion tools.

3.Browser performance is improved by a new technology called webworker threads which helps the processing of heavy websites faster than the old ones.

4.Option of displaying the desired fonts.

Google chrome has also released it's new version chrome 0.4.154.33 and has sum new features like the chrome v8 search engine with customized searching properties and better interfaces,the drawbacks of the chrome do overtake it's advantages as discussed earlier such as images cannot be blocked,adding plugins is a problem,some flash images and videos cannot be blocked hence not a gusd alternative for limited broadband users.

All these are the news we have been hearing for the past 6 months or so or even more.The situation is such that the biggest banks of usa have become bankrupt and the epidemic(if we may call it is spreading like wildfire).As far as india is concerned the economy though quite down is still being able to hold on to respective levels.

Even in such bad times the Indian Economy has still an edge over the rest of the world's economy.Here are some of the positives to consider:

1.Inflation rates dipping day by day and as analysts predict inflation may ease upto 1% by march 2009.This means everything from vegetables to commercial commodities to consumer goods is gonna be at it's lowest(now that's a gr8 news isn't it)

2.loan rates specifically car loans and home loan rates became cheaper by more the 1 %.

3.Rates of cars and other automobiles have dropped a significant amount(so if u plan to buy a car sumday this is the best time to)

4.similarly reduction in home loan rates along with reduction in actual amount for purchasing homes and plots indicates that it is the best time to get a newly furnished dream house for urselfs.

5.With RBI taking innovative measures and decreasing repo rates every now and then and also with the government introducing the stimulus package in phases, all this spells gud times for the indian economy.

6.Petrol and diesel prices have dipped a significant amount and further reduction expected.

and with all this the GDP growth of indian economy is above 7% most of the time.then wats the worry.

Google Chrome Comic...

Comic???yup true Google has now brought out new comic to justify their launch of Google Chrome and link for that comic.

Of course we appreciate the fact that there is at least one organization that is working on their products from the scratch then iterating it. Google is making all possible effort to remove the bugs but somewhere down the line this is also a fact that it lacks certain expected basic features however its updates are coming quite soon.

Barack Obama is a BlackBerry user and loves to send emails to his friends and colleagues from it. He also reads speeches and reports on it. He may, however, have to sign off his digital assistant due to concerns about email security. And it would be better if he just doesn’t send them. Indeed, Clinton and Dubya both gave up email when they took up the top job. But Obama’s thought to be the first US prez with a BlackBerry addiction.

Also he would be the first to use a notebook at his Oval Office. A solution if he is allowed to have only inbound mails.

Skyfire is a free, downloadable internet browser for S60 cellphones. Its quite similar to Opera Mini but its simple, quick nd more efficient.

Previously the browser meant for only US citizens but finally its open for all. Sky fire also won One of Top mobile applications award for year 2008.

To get SkyFire:

1)Go to the SkyFire Register page Here.

2)Fill in your details. Do give a real email address as you'll need it later on. In the phone number field enter any number.

3)You'll get a confirmation email that contains a link saying 'Download to PC', click on it for further steps.

5)Copy the installation file to your phone and install as normal. When opening SkyFire for the first time you'll be asked to input the email address you registered with and the password you created in the previous step.

GMAIL On The MOVE!!!!

In the year 2007 after the launch "GMAIL FOR MOBILE" i.e. GMail 1.5 obviously another Beta from Google's backpack.

As far as a new offerings are expected to be, it was still very decent but only as far as checking mails was concerned. Sadly it didn`t either allowed me to compose, draft or forward any mails. And other major concern was even when the signals gets lower than usual it takes hours to even respond and lastly when any of the mails were deleted or moved changed were not reflected on logging on to the computer.

So finally I am glad that Google acknowledged the faults in the product and came up with GMAIL 2.0 for Mobile and guys after thoroughly using the software I am writing this review that GMAil 2.0 truly delivers what it promises. No such problem is encountered with the newer version.

Goooogle shines with Chrome!!!!

Another new great Beta offering from GOOGLE, a less demanding, quick and efficient browser Google Chrome.

The best thing I personally liked about chrome is that it is quick atleast 2 times than any Firefox version or Opera and as usual Internet Explorer prefers to stay in the back seat.

One really outstanding feature of chrome is that its Java based performance is something that people favorite browser whether it be firefox or opera lacks, websites with java base ads and applications tend to slow down these browsers but with chrome it appeared as if it is not affected at all.

Google chrome is expected to affect windows market share the most.

But google has to keep on improving the chrome as it also lacks certain feature as people with limited data transfer plans can`t stop loading images or flash or ads that are really annoying which is easily with firefox and it small addons(Adblock, FlashBlock and FireFTP). This has actually given other rivals an edge to compete with Google.

Also similiar to other browsers, Indian Govt. sites are also not best viewed in chrome one still have to refer IE.

For a novice Chrome is good but for other section of users it is not meant for them at this point, they will have to wait for some more time.

Google executives, Sundar Pichai, the company's vice president of product management, and Linus Upson, director of engineering, said that developers are working on versions for both Mac OS X and Linux, currently only Windows XP/Vista version is available.

An INDIAN winning a Gold Medal at the Olympics may come as a surprise to many, but this was always destined to happen atleast for Abhinav Bindra.

Abhinav Bindra always had the potential, more than that he always had a dream to conquer the world. Here are the few extracts from his interview after he returned from the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

" When the Indian contingent left for the Commonwealth Games, I had promised myself that I would do my best in my event and win the first gold medal for my country. I am happy that I was able to achieve what I had dreamed of."

"When I went in for my first event at the Games, I was calm and content; I concentrated hard." (Well thats what he was after winning as well)

He went on & said " By the grace of God, if I am able to shoot to my full potential, I will be able to do well. Of course, my ultimate dream is to win a gold medal for India at the Olympic Games."

A Sample BEC Statement of Results

Some organizations like i-Flex Solutions(now Oracle Financial Services) require their candidates to sit Business English Certification(BEC) Preliminary before they join their organization.

Here are a few points regarding the BEC Exam: (I have tried to include sample papers, previous year papers and a few audio resources, but the content you see here might be found through google search also or through some rapidshare links, the resources available on the net are very limited but it hardly matters as the Prelim Level is really easy.)

1. Firstly go through this page & check out the exam pattern and sample papers. You can get the application form here

2. It consists of 4 sections:
a) Reading- Very easy
b) Listening- Easy but practice a little by listening to some Audio as the accent can be quite tricky
to understand for first timers.
c) Writing- It consists of writing letters, memorandums, emails, notes etc.. A little practice of formats is required. Your score in this section depends on the relevancy and the language you used.
d) Speaking- Again really easy but speak to the point and speak at your own comfortable speed but clearly.

3. You can go through this book Click here. It doesn't contain Audio. Go through this book only if your English is below a basic level. For other similar stuff click here

4. If you want to practice for the writing section buy PASS CAMBRIDGE BEC PRELIMINARY Student Book by Ian Wood & Anne Williams. It would cost you around Rs.150.

5. The results of the examination are declared usually after 50-60 days of the examination. To view the results online candidates are issued a Secret ID & a password at the centre of the examination or they can get this id & secret number through email by requesting for it in the following format:
