Apple CEO Tim Cook visited Turkey as a part of his ”world tour”. During his visit, Cook has met Turkish President Abdullah Gül at the presidential residence. This meeting has been described as a ”return visit” since Abdullah Gül had visited Apple campus at Cupertino, CA two years ago.

During his visit at Cupertino, President Gül had complained about the lack of Turkish keyboard on iOS. After Gül’s visit, Apple has added Turkish keyboard to iOS 6 which was released at the fall of 2011. Gül thanked Cook for the addition of Turkish keyboard.

During today’s meeting, Gül has come up with a new request about iOS. Turkish President stated that he would be happy to see Apple’s personal assistance app Siri speaking Turkish. Gül also underlined the importance of increasing Turkish content on other Apple apps.As a reply to Gül’s request about a Turkish speaking Siri, Cook said: ”We are getting lots of tweets from our Turkish users about this subject, we are going to work on this.”

Apple CEO also described iPhone and iPad as ”necessities of modern life” and stated these devices should be removed form luxury tax category.

A possible Apple R&D investment in Turkey was also one of the topics of Gül-Cook meeting. President Gül uttered that Apple should pay more attention to Turkey about R&D. ”If you put yourselves in our position, no country wants to be labelled only as a ”buyer”. An R&D investment in Turkey would also improve the company’s public image in Turkey.”Gül said.

Gül also described Cook’s visit ”as an important effort to meet Turkey better” and hopes that this visit will improve relations between Turkey and Apple. Pointing out the demand for Apple devices in Turkey, Gül said: ” As Turkey becomes wealthier, Apple’s sales will increase. Apple’s existence in Turkey is important for our country.”

Tim Cook spoke about Apple’s first physical retail store in İstanbul, also in Turkey. which is going to be opened in April. CEO said that the store will be unique and the concept of the store will be ”the first of its kind”. Cook also underlined the importance of Turkey for Apple and stated the company is tracking many subjects, starting with educational Fatih project.

Stressing the significance of education and software for Apple, Cook stated there are 70000 registered iOS developers and 9000 apps in Turkey. He also shared his belief about increasing this number with education. Apple CEO reminded that the company’s retail store is not only about selling devices and education is an important aspect for stores. In addition to educational matters, Cook said Apple is exploring possibilities about producing Apple accessories in Turkey and the company will monitor R&D investments in Turkey closer.

Recently Apple is co-operating with four Turkish universities and Cook defined education as ”an equaling factor”. Stating that his family was not wealthy and he owes his current position to his education, he described Apple as ”a company that wants open digital content for everyone”.

Nokia Lumia 1020, which was announced at an event in New York in July, will be launched in Turkey this week.

Finnish outfit’s latest camera phone which boasts 41 megapixel sensor with Carl-Zeiss optics is offering perfect and detailed shots to its owners. Lumia 1020 users will get a chance to take shots with Nokia’s special Pro Cam application, which offers both automatic settings and manual controls with an easy-to-use interface.

Nokia Lumia 1020 has 4.5-inch, 1280 x 768 AMOLED display similar to Nokia Lumia 925. Besides, it features 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB storage, Adreno 225 GPU, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3, NFC, HSDPA 42.2 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps, and LTE.

Lumia 1020 includes the upgraded version of 41 megapixel camera which was first offered in Nokia 808 PureView, launched last year at Mobile World Congress 2012. This camera takes full 38 megapixel and 5 megapixel versions of the same frame simultaneously. Therefore you can edit the full resolution version with some tools that Nokia offers, and share the 5 megapixel version via e-mail or social media channels, easily. Optic image stabilization system leads more stable stills and videos. While you can record 1080p/30fps Full HD videos, you can also use 4x lossless digital zoom and video light.

Nokia Lumia 1020 will be exclusive to Turkcell at the beginning. The handset will be on sale this week from 1999 TRY + VAT (approximately $1000 + VAT). Besides that, Turkcell offers some 24-month contract options with payments starting from 83 TRY per month.

Fourth-generation mobile data communication technologies have been emerging all around the world. However in Turkey, where 3G services launched in 2009, it is assumed that 4G wouldn’t be available until 2015. At the moment, all of the three mobile operators operating in Turkey offers dual-carrier technology in their 3G networks, so users can deliver data at speeds of up to 43.2 Mbps. Considering that active LTE networks offer data rates in the range of 20-30 Mbps, people in Turkey don’t suffer from the lack of 4G networks.

Nevertheless, mobile operators are working for 4G networks in order to be ready at the time when 4G networks would be permitted in Turkey. Turkcell and Vodafone have just announced that they had been testing with 4G LTE Advanced networks which allow data rates up to 1 Gbps, theoretically.

Turkcell made a demo on Wednesday, and showed that it could achieve a download speed up to 900 Mbps, which is theoretical. On the other hand, it offered some daily life instances with a single LTE Advanced modem connection. An Internet connection speed test, conducted on Speedtest.net web site gave a download speed over 200 Mbps, and an upload speed around 50 Mbps. Additionally, a download of a 1 GB DVD movie lasted only 38 seconds.

At the same day, Vodafone Turkey announced that it had reached a top speed of 300.1 Mbps with a single LTE Advanced modem in its test which was conducted in Vodafone Turkey HQ in Istanbul, Maslak.

What is LTE Advanced?
LTE Advanced is a fourth-generation mobile communications technology that allows combining frequency band in the same or different channels, and achieving very high speeds. By using the 100 MHz which is the combination of different carriers, it is possible to achieve theoretical download speeds in the range of 750 Mbps – 3 Gbps.

High data rates with LTE Advanced increase effectiviy in mobile health and mobile education applications, also it allows faster data sharing, and more enjoyable gaming experience with low latency. In addition, more HD video content is being used by users.

Samsung’s widely expected flagship Android phone Galaxy S4 is now official. Galaxy S4 is announced on Unpacked 2013 which took place in New York. The device resembles its predecessor Galaxy S III in terms of design. It is also understood that photos and specs which have leaked from China during the week are accurate. Galaxy S4 would be available in 155 countries and 327 carriers by the end of April.

Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with 4.99 inch, Full HD Super AMOLED display. The display presents a a sharp quality with its 441 ppi pixel density. Despite having the Pentile technology, it is told that blue-greenish colour effect is not dominant at all, thanks to the very high resolution. We also should underline that using Galaxy S4 is possible with gloves. Galaxy S4 weighs 130 grams and has a polycarbonate case. Color options are black and white. The device offers a large list for wireless connection support. 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, IR LED port, MHL 2.0, 4G LTE are available on the phone. Hence there is 4G LTE on the list, we predict that HSPA+ is also on the list.

Exynos 5 and Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro are options for the processor. The distribuiton between these two processors will be based on region. It is almost certain that Galaxy S4 will come to Turkey with Exynos 5. Galaxy S4 also has 2 GB RAM, and 16/32/64 GB storage options. 2600 mAh battery is quite satisfactory for the device. There are 8 different sensors on Galaxy S4, including infrared, gesture, temperature and humidity.

Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 13 megapixel rear camera. It is not hard to notice that the camera is improved and comes with enhanced features. Some features like mode quadrant and a few scene modes are transferred from Galaxy Camera. Eraser mode captures a few shots very quickly, then erases the one which contains background movement. Eraser mode helps getting clear shots easily. Dual Shot is another camera feature that Samsung presents with Galaxy S4. This features gives the chance of getting shots by using both front and rear cameras. DramaShot enables successive shots and these shots could be combined by users. Cinema Photo mode is used for getting shots which resemble GIFs.

Samsung Galaxy S4 runs Android 4.2.2. The additional features that Samsung has added on Android takes Galaxy S4 one step ahead. S Translator app translates text messages and e-mails between different languages. With the help of ”Air Gestures” feature users can navigate on photo galleries and web without touching the screen. ”Air View” feature is used for previewing e-mails and calendar entries while hanging a finger above the screen. A similar feature is also available on Galaxy Note II with the help of S Pen.

S Health, a new health app steps on the stage with Galaxy S4. With the help of the app, Galaxy S4 could track their health records quickly and properly. The app also has the ability to create a healthy living program for user, based on the data has been given by her/him. An additional accessory named S Band which syncs with Galaxy S4 via Bluetooth is used for keeping the track. Infrared port enables WatchOn app on Galaxy S4 and makes using the device as a universal remote control possible.

Another innovative feature that Samsung has presented with Galaxy S4 is Group Play. By using this feature, Galaxy S4 owners could share a song or a photo with another Galaxy S4 owner around. This feature also supports multiplaying options on games like Asphalt 7 and Gun Bros 2. Samsung meets expectations on hardware basis with Galaxy S4 and offers a smartphone with a better display, camera, processor. Also its innovative approach on software continues with Galaxy S4. You can find product specifications of Galaxy S4 below.
