There’s a plan to tie-in Lost with the new show FlashForward. But how will ABC do it? And should Lost fans tune in?

Have you heard? There’s word that an attempt is being made to tie ABC’s new “Flash Forward” series to “Lost”. It would make a lot of sense to try to capture those Lost cult-like followers. They’re very loyal viewers. They’ve stuck around year after year on the glimmer of hope that eventually they’ll get some of the answers to the mysteries of the Island.

At this point, let me fully disclose that I am indeed one of those Lost fans.

As the final season draws to a close I find myself already looking for its replacement. Anticipating Lost-withdrawals, I want to get right into a new show that has me dizzy with questions. I’ve tried a few, but have always felt left down.

I thought “V” would do nicely, but its first episode seemed too rushed. The earthlings were ready to accept the aliens within the first episode. Heck, they applauded the spaceship’s first appearance over earth. It was just forced. Too much, too soon.

I gave “Flash Forward” a chance. And although I enjoyed the first episode and wanted to see more, I found myself forgetting about the show after a few days and never saw episode #2. There was just something not quite right with Flash Forward. Once again, I felt it was a show trying to do too much too soon.

But now I hear that Lost’s final episodes will somehow tie-in to Flash Forward. This rumor seems to have been proven by an image inside one of the Flash Forward episodes showing a billboard for Oceanic airlines, and how they have a “perfect safety record”

But how will these 2 shows be tied together? At this point, no one’s really sure. But I do have a theory.

The alternate reality where the plane doesn’t crash (aka the Flash Sideways) could be the currently reality for Flash Forward. Meaning that the Jack with a son and the Sawyer who’s really a cop actually exist in the Flash Forward world. This would be a fabulous idea, at least in regards to marketing. Those Lost fans who just aren’t ready to give up their favorite characters could easily be drawn into seeing a show where Kate and Jin and the others live on. The obvious problem with that is there are 2 Lost actors (the ones who play Penny and Charlie) that are already on Flash Forward, but as characters other than Penny and Charlie. It’s possible that this situation wasn’t originally intended by the Flash Forward writers/producers, but with the show struggling in the ratings maybe this is a tactic that they’ve only recently implemented, not until after they had already hired “Penny” and “Charlie”.

I do hope the Lost “Flash Sideways” scenes are not solely for the benefit to get us viewers to start watching Flash Forward. As a Lost viewer, I’m already finding these stories to be annoying. With just a few episodes left I want to finally be getting answers, not seeing possible alternate-world scenarios with new characters… and not even knowing if this alternate reality is actually happening or if it even means anything. I will be horribly disappointed if I find out these stories are just part of one huge marketing ploy for Fast Forward.

What I do know is that whatever tie-in between Lost and Flash Forward better be well-planned. It cannot be some last-minute attempt to save a new show’s ratings. It had better have been planned before Flash Foroward producers started shooting even one minute of their first episode.

Because I really want to find an adequate replacement to Lost. And I’m running out of time to find it.

A satirical article about a deadly intelligence and speech impairment that has been hitting the UK following the broadcast of a popular TV show.

PADDY MCGUINNESS has been hailed as starting the decline of the English Language (and intelligence generally) following his massively popular programme about something to do with women and a bloke, and stuff.

His current show, ‘Take Me Out’ (which is exactly what most people would like to do to McGuiness if given the opportunity, and a gun), follows a group of women who have to press buttons that turn lights on. The women do this until they realise their own stupidity or become aware that they’re being manipulated to entertain similar types of people, the type of people who would be just as equally entertained watching two dogs having sexual intercourse.

A term that language experts have coined the ‘McGuinness decline ‘ describes the point where an adult, who having reached their maximum capacity to pronounce, retain and understand words, begin to reverse the process of learning to speak, starting with saying things such as ‘No Likey, No Lighty’ gradually becoming worse resulting in uttering such incomprehensible drivel such as ‘bish bash bosh’ before succumbing to gurgling sounds.

The danger of the adults suffering from the McGuinness decline is that soon a large population of the working class will return back to their primitive state, chasing women in aggressive and drunken manners in seaside towns. There are fears that this could already be happening in certain parts of the UK.

Whilst the fear of losing the ability to speak and being reduced nothing but gurgling sounds is worrying some adults, the good news is that even if a person does fall to such a state they’d still have a good two or three hours worth of funnier material than a Paddy McGuinness stand-up show.

ITV are already toying with new show ideas featuring Paddy McGuinness following his success, including one where a young female stands on stage and an audience of sleazy men throw various reptiles at her as she takes her clothes off , the show is expected to be called ‘No Nakey, No Snakey’. Other show ideas include ‘No Brainy, ITV will commission-y’ etc.

The tough-as-nails trainer on The Biggest Loser will now star in her very own show. This summer Jillian Michaels will have her own weight-loss show on NBC.

It was announced on March 16th that The Biggest Loser’s female trainer Jillian Michaels will have her own show on NBC starting this June. The show will simply be called: Losing it with Jillian.

The 36 year-old trainer will get close and personal with her new clients. Jillian will actually move in with her new clients. Yes, clients – plural. She moves in with an entire family in need of a major weight change.

Jillian is known for her no-nonsense attitude. She definitely has the right attitude for her job. Trying to put with people’s excuses isn’t a job for just anyone. Yet despite her rough exterior, there always seem to be several moments in every Biggest Loser season where we get to see her softer side. Jillian’s the type of girl that will kick your butt, but then hand you a Kleenex to wipe your tears after.

NBC is smartly pairing up Jillian’s reality show with an already successful reality show. Losing it with Jillian will air the same night as America’s Got Talent. While not the best rated show on television, America’s Got Talent does bring in solid summer ratings.

It’s the norm for the big networks to turn to reality shows in the summer. June is also usually the month CBS airs its summer reality series Big Brother. Summer can be a great testing ground for reality shows. If Losing it with Jillian does well, NBC may be tempted to move her into the colder months, when more viewers are watching television.

Either way, this is the summer for anyone who can’t get enough of Jillian Michaels and her fabulous abs.

The Marriage Ref disappoints, proving that even the all powerful Jerry Seinfeld cannot save this doomed NBC network.

They had an Olympics-sized opportunity. And they failed. The executives at NBC decided the Marriage Ref was one of the few new shows they were going to push hard to their millions of new viewers during the Winter Games. It was a gamble. And it’s proving to be a losing one.

The Marriage Ref is a show created by (and starring) Jerry Seinfeld. Being that he was responsible for what made NBC unstoppable in the 90’s, the executives must have thought he was their savior for the new decade. They were wrong.

The Marriage Ref shows clips from real husbands and wives involved in some dispute. Husband wants a stripper pole in the bedroom, wife doesn’t. Husband wants their dead dog mounted in the living room, wife doesn’t. You get the idea.

What makes this different than the dozens and dozens of reality shows already out there is that actual celebrities come on stage to judge the argument and decide a winner. It’s obvious Seinfeld has connections. Marriage Ref showcased some MAJOR celebrities like Alec Baldwin and Madonna. That’s nothing to sneeze at.

But unfortunately that’s not enough to polish this turd. The show just isn’t that funny. It isn’t even all that original. Now I understand humor and taste is subjective. My opinion may not be the same as yours. But the numbers show that although many people have sampled the show, most are choosing to not come back for more.

Its premiere episode aired immediately after the Olympics’ closing ceremony. It drew a pretty huge audience, 14.4 million viewers to be specific. It was the number one show on TV at its first airing.

However its second episode came in 2nd (out of the top 3 networks). With just 7.7 million viewers it just barely squeaked by the 3rd place of ABC’s Private Practice. Its most recent episode got about 2 million LESS viewers than Private Practice. At about 6 million viewers, its ratings are not much better than what Leno had in Primetime before he was canceled.

It doesn’t take much of a referee to know the Marriage Ref has struck out.

Do you hate "American Idol" this season? It is being called the worst season of "American Idol" ever.

This season of “American Idol” is being called the worst season ever in terms of talent. Is the singing competition really that bad this year? Is it possible that any of the “American Idol” contestants could be talented enough to have a future music career?

Is There Natural Talent on “American Idol” This Season?

There are several “American Idol” contestants which seem to have very natural talent, as well as voices which are simply meant for the radio. Female contestants Crystal Bowersox and Lilly Scott may be some of the most unique and talented vocalists that “American Idol” has ever seen. Male contestant Lee Dewyze is about as good as Chris Daughtry, and it is likely that we can expect to hear his voice big on the radio in the future.

As for the other “American Idol” contestants? There is no doubt that some of the other vocalists in this singing competition have great voices. Katie Stevens, Aaron Kelly, Katelyn Epperly, and Casey James are all “American Idol” contestants who have shown that they do have great voices. Unfortunately, most of their performances have yet to seriously impress the judges. It seems that if all of these artists can strengthen who they want to be as musicians, they may have a shot at winning “American Idol.”

Could Any of the “American Idol” Contestants Make it Big?

The upcoming weeks will help us better predict which “American Idol” contestants could be around for the long haul. There are undoubtedly a few great vocalists on the show this season, and it is easy to picture some of them – such as Lee Dewyze or Crystal Bowersox – growing in fame. All that some of these “American Idol” contestants really need to do is find the song which best represents who they would like to be as an artist. It feels as though many of the song choices this season seem to be somewhat older than they have been in seasons, and simply not well suited for the contestants who are singing them.

We have seen in the past that you do not necessarily need to win “American Idol” in order to make it good as a musician. It seems that some of the current contestants could develop large enough fan bases based on their performances in order to make it big in the world of music. On a similar note, there have been some “American Idol” winners who haven’t made it big. It’s all about talent – and while there may not be tons of contestants on “American Idol” this season who seem to have the natural talent it takes to make it big, there are definitely a select few who could go somewhere!

Though the Bachelor Jake made some controversial choices this season, they are not all that surprising.

When Jake Pavelka, aka “Mr. Perfect,” was announced as the bachelor, I remember one of my friends saying, “He can’t be the bachelor-it will be so boring!” Well, very quickly into the season quite the contrary proved to be true. Though many have disagreed with his final choice, I don’t think anyone can contest that is was a memorable season. I think we all learned quite a bit from Jake’s bachelorettes.

First things first, whether it’s asking to feel someone’s famous abs, shaking a peacock feather to attract a mate, or making a list of ten things to know about yourself, you have to make an impression. First impressions last. You have to make an effort to stand out and be remembered, those who didn’t made an early exit. Jake mentioned that some of the girls stood out to him on that first night and none of them were sent home.

Be genuine. Jake kept saying how much he appreciated honesty and loved girls that were comfortable being themselves. He described these girls as “refreshing”. People respond well to authenticity and we saw that he did not have patience for games. Elizabeth made a strong first impression and she was clearly a front runner in the beginning. However, we saw her fall behind as Jake sensed he was being toyed with.

Make yourself vulnerable, the two girls that were left in the end made an emotional connection with Jake right away. Tenley and Vienna both shared painful insights into their past relationships openly and both made it to the final rose ceremony. Ali shared her fear of flying and Jake responded to that immediately. She also shared the pain of the loss of her grandmother with Jake and we could all see that it was a strong bonding experience for them. Jake repeatedly sent girls home because he didn’t feel a connection, and none had opened up to him on this scale. Gia said it herself, she couldn’t open up and that is why she did not make it to the final two.

Do not undermine the competition. Some girls unfortunately got caught up in Jake’s relationship with other women and let that become their focus. It quite possibly pushed Jake toward Vienna when he was told not to like her. Nobody wants to be told who they can and can not like. Also, Jake is a gentleman and the protective type and I think he felt the need to defend Vienna. It in a way pitted them against the world, which inevitably brought them closer together.

X factor, or magical spark. We did also learn that some things can’t be forced. I would suggest that they can be facilitated. Though Jake attributed his final decision down to something that he couldn’t explain, I think I can propose a few suggestions. The two most eventful dates were the first two dates with Ali and Vienna. On their first date Jake and Ali overcame Ali’s fear of flying and a night full of surprises. Vienna and Jake; both petrified of heights jumped off a bridge together. That is certainly a good way to form a bond. In addition to that, studies have shown that the level of attraction increases right along with adrenaline. Tenley secured the first physical connection with landing the first kiss, the rest were left to their own devises to ignite a spark. Unfortunately for them it wasn’t enough to keep them around.

Now the turbulence of the season has past, the seatbelt sign is off and you can feel free to move about your lives again. Our pilot on this journey made threw us for a loop several times. However, even if you did not like the climax of the season, you can at least walk away with some lessons learned from the bachelor.

The Leno Disaster. The New Show Letdown. Is NBC becoming a joke?

Remember when NBC was the dominate network? There was Seinfeld and Friends and ER. NBC coined the phrase “Must See TV”. And it really was must-see. Will Ross and Rachel get back together? Will the Soup Nazi let Kramer order a chicken noodle? Will George Clooney return? NBC was just wiping the other stations away in the 90’s.

Fast forward to the 21st century. Right now NBC is trying to remedy its Leno mistake. The network destroyed its 10pm ratings (9pm Central). Although NBC was happy to continue with Leno, because it was still a money maker at 10, the affiliates across the country responded with a resounding “hell no!”

So NBC “fixed” the problem and put Leno back at 11:30. However “fixed” could easily be replaced by “exasperated” for fans of Conan O’Brien. A true assessment of how well Leno is doing back in his old timeslot won’t come immediately. Just as what happened in the early days of his 10pm primetime show, expect the first weeks to be high-rated, ratings that may either stay up or eventually drop below Letterman.

That leaves us with five hours to fill. And if you’ve been watching the Olympics you’ve gotten a pretty good peak at some of what’s taking the space Leno left behind.

Cover of Parenthood (Special Edition)

Parenthood

First, there’s Parenthood. Not only is this a remake of the 1989 movie Parenthood (starring Steve Martin and Mary Steenburgen) this has also been tried before. You might be surprised to learn Parenthood was a TV series first in 1990 (starring a 16 year-old Leo DiCaprio). There aired only one season.

Parenthood isn’t a bad concept for a show. In fact it’s already doing pretty well on ABC. Maybe you’ve heard of it, it’s called “Modern Family.” Even if Parenthood has been in works before Modern Family, they’re coming to the game too late. We’ve already got a family show… and we love it.

Marriage Ref

NBC has also decided to give us “Marriage Ref.” Have you seen these promos? I do not understand the appeal. If we wanted to see married people argue, there are dozens and dozens of reality shows that have that. If I wanted to hear from celebrities, well… they’re on TV all the time as it is.

I have a feeling this show must be blamed on what I’m calling the “Seinfeld syndrome”. The most successful comedian in the world comes to the failing NBC network saying “I have an idea.” I can only guess the suits were happy to sign the deal before they even knew what Seinfeld’s idea ever was. I’m so unimpressed by what I’ve seen in the promos, I don’t even have the interest to go on about how bad I’m expecting this show to be.

Minute to Win It

And that leaves me with the last show that has gotten lots of promo time during the Oympics, Minute to Win It. It’s average Joe and average Jane playing I guess what could be called “office games” for a million dollars. Really? This is what you think will bring in the viewers? When I first saw the ads I thought this was a short-term show to air only during the period of the Olympics – playing off the competitive feel the country was experiencing during the games. But, no. I was sadly mistaken.

New Shows to be optimistic about:

What may not completely suck is their new Celebrity Apprentice. They rounded up a good crowd this time with Rod Blagojevich, Brett Michaels and (my favorite) Cindy Lauper.

And a show that I expect could be really good, but will still bomb in the ratings department, is “Who do you think you are” where we see celebrities discover their ancestral lineage. This is a bit too PBS to make it very far amongst the mainstream viewers.

While I see NBC slipping further into the abyss, they are still too big to fail. They are still bringing in millions of viewers every night. But one day… and hopefully that one day is soon… the suits at NBC will realize they might not have the right people deciding what America wants to watch. That guy who correctly thought Friends would be a hit in the 90’s might not have his finger on the pulse of today’s America.

Could being a panelist on a game show affect society in a positive way? Could a person's wit and infectious smile change to world for the better? The answer is yes on both points, and Nipsey Russell's career is the proof.

If you were alive during the 1970s, you may remember Nipsey Russell as the ever smiling, game show panelist, with the ability to make up a rhyme on the spot. In the 1990s you may have seen his comedy sketches on The Late Show with Conan O’Brian. If you did not see any of these appearances by Nipsey, when they first aired, you may have seen one of them on a rerun, on The Game Show Network. You may have wondered who was this wacky man with that huge infectious smile. Then again you may have just taken his presence for granted. His presence on these game shows was a positive one, in more ways than just that infectious smile and bubbly personality. There was also more to Nipsey’s career than those appearances on game shows.

Nipsey, was born Julius Russell, September, 15th, 1918, in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, and in 1936, went to The University of Cincinnati, for one semester. In 1941, during World War II, Russell enlisted in the United States Army, as a private, served as a medic in Europe, and made his way to a rank of Second Lieutenant, before his return to The United States, in 1945. After, his return to Atlanta, he worked as a carhop at a drive-in restaurant, The Varsity, where his comic ability lead to increased tips from the customers. In The 1950, Russell began to preform at comedy clubs, which lead to “Party Albums” being produced, from recordings of his stand-up routines.

By the middle of the 1950s, Russell had teamed up with comedian, Mantan Morland, to replace his straight man Ben Carter. Their act, consisted of conversations between the two men, that were done in incomplete sentences, where each man anticipated what the other was going to say next. Examples of this act can be seen in the films, Rhythm and Blues Review, and Rock and Roll Revue. Also this act was dramatized in, Spike Lee’s 2000 film, Bamboozled, by Tommy Davidson and Savion Glover. In the later 1950s Russell went solo, and had an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.

In 1961, Russell landed a supporting role, as a New York City Policeman, Sargent Anderson, on the comedy series Car 54, Where Are You?. In 1964, Russell became the first African American, to become a regular panelist on a weekly game show. The show was ABC’s Missing Links. Also, because of Russell’s uncanny sense of rhyme, he became an essential part of another ABC game show called, Rhyme and Reason. In 1965, Russell, joined the Les Crane Show, on ABC, as co-host. In 1968, Nipsey became a panelist on the revived version of the game show, What’s My Line?. As the 60’s grew into the 70’s, Russell became a co-star, of a comedy series, Barefoot in The Park, which was also on ABC. During this period of time Russell, also made regular appearances on The Dean Martin Show, The Dean Martin Comedy World, and The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

In 1971, Nipsey became one of the featured panelists on the game show, To Tell The Truth, which was followed by the same status on The Match Game. He made regular appearances on Pyramid, during its run from the mid 70s into the 80s. In 1978, Russell, played The Tin Man, in The Wiz. Which allowed him to show off his talent as a dancer. He made another notable film appearance in the, 1994 film adaptation, of the series Car 54, Where Are You? His character of Sargent Anderson, was promoted to Captain, in the film version. In 1985, Nipsey, went from being a game show panelist to being the host of two game shows, Your Numbers Up, and a revived version of Juvenile Jury, both shows had brief runs. In The 1990s. Russell became regular on The Late Show with Conan O’Brian. Throughout the years Nipsey, also made several appearances on the beloved game show, Hollywood Squares. Russell’s final television appearance would be, as one of the panelists for the week, on Hollywood Squares. On October, 2nd, 2005, Nipsey lost a battle with stomach cancer. He was cremated and his ashes were scattered in The Atlantic Ocean.

Nipsey Russell may not have been a politician, or activist, that we look at as being at the forefront of The Civil Rights Movement. Nipsey was, however one of the leaders of a velvet revolution that took place in the world of media, which had a great effect on The Civil Rights Movement. Nipsey was not in the media vocally demanding Civil Rights. That has its place. Nipsey simply did what he did best. He made people smile. He made people laugh. Nipsey’s contribution to The Civil Rights Movement, was that he put in himself in the publics view. He was where, some people at the time did not think he should be, on television. Nipsey just lived, laughed, made others laugh, and, rightfully, acted like he should be there. Nipsey’s talent and personality broke the color barrier on television game shows. You may think “these were only games shows, big deal”. I have a saying on my desk, that says “Everything Counts, Be Thankful!”. I am thankful that Nipsey Russell existed, and that as a child I saw him on television. As a white child, watching Nipsey on television in 70s, I did not think to myself “this man is black and he is making me laugh”, I only laughed. Nipsey’s appearances on these simple little game shows, played an important role in social transformation, by breaking down color barriers in the media. For that reason, they can not be ignored, also for this same reason, Nipsey was far more than just a panelist on a game show. Thank you Nipsey, your contribution to society, your wit, and your infectious smile are remembered.

Why are we so interested that Boner is Missing? Remembering 80s and 90s tv shows like Growing Pains, and what made them great.

To prove the cultural staying power that 80s tv shows still have, the story that “boner” is missing is front page magnitude. I grew up in the 90s, yet have seen almost every episode of “Growing Pains”, but I still wondered why the story that the actor who played one of the show’s minor characters is missing is suddenly a popular topic?

I know that missing people are nothing to be scoffed at, but I’m amazed at how even after 30 years, this show is still catches headlines, and maintains interest in the American viewing public. I think for a lot of people, shows like Full house, Growing Pains, Family Matters and Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, represent a more innocent time. A time before Nipplegate, a time before Bush Jr. screwed up the economy, and a time before reality tv ruined it for everyone.

For those of us who grew up in the 80s and 90s, these shows represent fond memories of going home after school, eating hot pockets or pop-tarts, relaxing with friend,s and doing homework. The fact that “Boner”, (Mike Seaver’s best friend on the show) is missing captures interest because of the significant place shows like this have in our cultural memory banks.

If you’re like me, you’re missing Boner too.

ABC's Lost is a very popular television, however it was not the first series named “Lost” on Televison. In 2001, NBC had a series entitled Lost. Did NBC's Lost, fail because of bad programming by NBC, or because it was preempted by 9/11?

Like many other people, I love the ABC television show Lost. In fact I think ABC’s Lost is one of the most important television shows ever made. I even went so far as to write an article entitled “Lost,The Most Important Television Show, Ever”, however it was not the first show on U.S. Television to be called Lost. In the fall of 2001, NBC television aired a series entitled, Lost. Unlike, ABC’s Lost, it was not a series in the fantasy genre. It was another show in the emerging genre of reality television. NBC’s Lost was a show much like, the CBS show, The Amazing Race, as it had teams, who raced to reach a final destination. However, this show had one huge difference. These teams were put out in the middle of nowhere, with very few clues, as to where they were or how to get where they were going. This is why the show was called Lost.

The show was to feature three different sets of three teams. The teams of the first set, which had a starting point in Ohio, were told that they would win, $200,000, if they were first to reach the final destination. That being The Statue of Liberty in New York City. The teams were not allowed to carry bank cards or anything that would give them an unfair advantage. Contestants were searched by show officials, wearing latex gloves, to ensure they did not have any such contraband. The three teams of the first set had, one team that included Carla, a make-up artist, and Lando, a student, while the second team was made up of Celeste, a fashion designer, and Tami, a mother of four, and the members of the third team, were Joe, a graphic designer, and Courtland, an artist.

After being given survival gear, and a few items to barter, the teams were blindfolded and flown to an isolated location. In the first set, the location was somewhere in Mongolia. The teams then had to find clues and come to a conclusion as to where they were. When they figured out their location they had to then call the producers of the show to confirm, then from there find their way to the finish line. The series’ first episode, which premiered on Tuesday, September 4th 2001, appears to have left many viewers as confused as the series’ lost contestants. According to Melissa Gollob, in a September 6th 2001, article in The Michigan Daily, the show failed to excite viewers. The second episode of the show, which would have shown the winners of the series’ first set of teams, was preempted due to the 9/11 attacks on the U.S. Because of this NBC, at the time, blamed the series’ poor ratings on the 9/11 attacks. However, Melissa Gollob’s article, on September 6th 2001, points to lack of interest in the show. Her article was written pre-9/11. NBC decided to put the show on hiatus during this time.

NBC brought the show out of hiatus on Sunday December 23rd 2001, in a 7:00 PM time slot, with the second set of teams, who were, this time, abandoned in Bolivia. Being a person, who at the time, was actually excited about the show, I tried to watch it. I tuned into my local NBC affiliate and there was a sporting event on, preempting the show until later that evening. I switched the channel to something else, then kept checking back until the show finally came on. I missed about ten minutes of this episode. The ratings of this episode were very low. The lack of information I have been able to find, on this set in the series, suggests that hardly anyone watched or cared about the series, at this point. Because of the low ratings NBC, reworked the final episode of this set, from two hours to only one. When it was scheduled to air, I, once again, tuned in to to my local NBC affiliate to find a sporting event being aired, instead of Lost. As I had done the previous week, I switched to something else, and flipped, back and forth, between channels, until the show was on. After another night of poor ratings, NBC scrapped the entire third set of this series.

This brings us to the questions, if if 9/11 had not have happened would would NBC’s Lost have been a hit, and would we then have ABC’s Lost. Certainly, if 9/11 had not happened, ABC’s Lost, if it was even produced, would be a very different show. For instance, I doubt the writers would have included, the character of Sayid, a Iraqi Republican Guard torturer. As with everything about ABC’s Lost, one could go on and on about all of the meanings in the show and where the inspiration came from. The question, of how ABC’s Lost would be different, had 9/11 not happened, would fill volumes. For this reason I am not going to examine all of that now. Getting back to NBC’s Lost, I do not feel that 9/11 caused the demise of this series. I feel that NBC’s Lost, was a show that would appeal to a very limited audience, and because of this NBC needed to place it more carefully. The series’ original Tuesday time slot was actually a better one for it, than the Sunday time slot. In that respect the only way that 9/11 could be blamed for affecting the series’ performance, would be for the preemption of one episode. Which would be a ludicrous conclusion, as everything was preempted on that Tuesday, back in 2001, even QVC, a shopping channel, gave up its air space to CNN for the night.

Ultimately, NBC’s Lost failed because, it was a show that appealed to a limited audience, and of its network, blaming a tragic event for low ratings, in the shows original time slot, which caused a move to a time slot, that spells doom for many shows. That time slot being one that is consistently prone to the preemption and postponing of shows, because of sporting events. New shows should never be put in time slots that are prone to preemption and postponement. For about the last ten years, it seems that, the programming department at NBC, more than any other U.S. Television network , has failed to see this.. Maybe this is why CBS and ABC, now have more shows, that are “must see”, than NBC does. Personally, I am very hesitant to get involved in a new series on The NBC Network. However, that being said, it could be that this lack of vision over the years, at NBC, set the way clear for, what I feel is one of the most important television shows ever made, ABC’s Lost.

Another version of the reality show, Lost, was aired on The UK’s Channel 4. It also aired during the fall of 2001. Having not seen it, I have little knowledge of that show. However, it is said that it also had a time slot that caused a limited audience and acceptance. If you have seen the UK version, please feel free to speak up about it in the comments section.
