There are some television commercials that are so stupid that I have to take a moment to make fun of them.

I think that there are some television commercials that are such an insult to your intelligence that you lose I.Q. Points just from watching them. Talk about total brain rot.

The ones that really get me are the ones that sell this new product that is supposed to solve all of your problems related to that sort of product. Like the pocket hose. Sure you’re tired of having to wrap up your garden hose after you use it. The Pocket hose collapses making it so you don’t have to wrap it up. They show some moron who has a hose wrapped around his neck practically strangling himself with it. Now if you have that much of a problem with a garden hose, at least to the point where you almost strangle yourself, you are an idiot. There is no helping a moron like you. I sure hope you don’t have a hunting license.

Then I flip through the channels to see some dopes dancing around because they are testing out some new adult diapers to see if they will leak. First of all, I would think that most people who pee-pee themselves would not want to test to see if their drawers leak. I would think that they would walk around carefully as not to cause any potential leakage. They are doing the twist with a big smile on their faces. What happens when they start to notice a leak? Do they suddenly stop dancing and make way for the nearest rest room? Then they think to themselves” “Damn! I knew I shouldn’t have done the twist. Maybe I should have tried a slow dance first; maybe a little soft shoe. But nooooo, I had to do the twist and then the frickin’ Charleston!”

What about those laxative commercials? You see all these people dancing around because they are not constipated anymore. What is the point they are trying to make. Oh, I feel ten pounds lighter now? Wow, look at me dance. I felt much too bloated before to dance before I took a dump!

I Think infomercials are even worse. They always have this audience of overacting goofballs that act so amazed over the stupidest little thing. I don’t care what it is, I am not going to get all that excited over a food processor. Sorry, I just can’t get that giddy over a lousy kitchen appliance. Not gonna happen.

I still remember the old commercials for decaffeinated coffee. Somebody would snap at someone else and then say that you’ll have to excuse them because they have had too much caffeine. Then the person they just got all nasty with recommends decaf. First of all, if you just outright snap at people like that in this day and age, don’t be surprised if you end up spitting out teeth like chick-lets when they belt you one right in the mouth. They probably won’t tell you to try decaf, they’ll tell you to pull the wild hair out of your butt.

Now, I am not saying that commercials all have to make perfect sense. Just don’t insult our intelligence. What are the odds of someone practically strangling themselves with a garden hose? I mean, really. How many times have you seen a headline in your local newspaper referring to a freak garden hose accident being the cause of a person’s death? I would probably guess not too often. And how many people have you seen dancing around in the adult diapers aisle giving you the thumbs up on the adult diapers to let you know you don’t have to worry about leakage?

Maybe both companies can save money by going halfsies on a commercial. The laxative company can go in with the adult diaper company. The actors can dance around and you can guess if they are dancing because they are no longer constipated or if they finally went and are testing to see if it’ll leak out. Make a game show out of it. Or better yet, a reality TV show called Dancing with the Diapers. What the hell, bring in some really old celebrities that are dying for a paying gig.

Oh well, that’s all I have to say right now. These are just a few thoughts wandering through an extremely bored mind. Now it’s time to think about something else.

On shows such as Survivor and Big Brother you will often hear contestants say It is Just a Game, but is this fair, is it really true, are such reality shows only just games.

There are different types of reality television shows. On reality shows such as Big Brother and Survivor we often hear of “Game Play” and so forth with contestants reminding themselves and each other that it is “Just a Game”, but is this fair?

Game play typically involves stabbing each other in the back, lying and cheating. This is a part of the strategy many people use to get them to the end to win the prize, often half a million, or a million dollars.

In some cases people who are already wealthy will justify being on the game by saying “This game is not about who needs the money, it is about who plays the game well”. In theory that is correct, the person who plays the game best will get further ahead, except if others vote them off for being a “threat”. The fact that one person has money and another has debt really makes very little difference in the game itself, but in terms of beyond the game it does matter.

Sometimes people in debt got there due to their own foolish spending, greed, and so forth. Other times (particularly in the USA) the debt may be because of health care costs. Some people got rich through hard work, others merely inherited wealth.

But the point is that in the end reality shows such as Big Brother and Survivor should not be seen as being “Just a Game”.

First of all for those with very little money winning half a million dollars, or a million dollars, can be a life changer. Additionally there is a good amount of fame that comes with being on a reality show, how much fame do you get from playing scrabble with your kids? For those who have a lot of money already I suppose it is possible for them to say it is “Just a Game”, a multi-millionaire who wins a half million is not so much affected by the money as he/she is by the win itself.

Reality shows, such as Big Brother and Survivor, are not just games, they are entertainment to the fans, and they are sometimes eye openers about what a person will, or will not do, for money. Does a person do whatever it takes to win? Do they keep their morals?

“Just a Game” is an excuse for cut throat behavior. These shows are competitions, not just games. Now I am not saying that lying and cheating are wrong within the context of the show, bu to be fair, the show is larger than just being a game. The impact of being a winner on such a show can be a life changer.

Sky One's latest delivery is a comedy spoof of the great British cop TV dramas of the last twenty years.

DI Jack Cloth (John Hannah) is a cop on the edge; haunted by the death of his wife (Kate Fleetwood) some years earlier, he finds it difficult to cope. But life takes a turn when DC Anne Oldman (Suranne Jones), and a serial killer hits town, first taking out an old age pensioner, then a celebrity chef, what ties these killings?

A Touch Of Cloth is a amusing wake up call in the world of the British crime thriller, it’s stupidity must undoubtedly owe a nod of gratitude to the Police quad series and succeeding Naked Gun movies, yes A Touch Of Cloth is this sort of comedy.

From the opening scene introducing Jones’ character Anne Oldman (pronounced An Old Man) you know exactly which way this comedy is going. Meanwhile Cloth’s superior officer ACC Tom Boss (Julian Rhind-Tutt) and Todd Carty (who plays himself) both use every opportunity to refer to Cloth in different comedic ways by ending the sentence with a word that fits the surname of Cloth (example washing up Cloth, face Cloth. polishing Cloth, and even ass Cloth).

This is not a subtle comedy show, while something is happening in the foreground, something is often occurring in the background, and this is the power of the show, not one single minute goes by where something amusing occurs, to ensure at least 45 smirks per show, is an absolute achievement.

The dialogue is often a bit near the knuckle, especially when Dr Natasha Sachet (Daisy Beaumont) comes into a scene, her overtly sexual jokes, and dripping pussy will cause tears to build in your eyes. While an incredibly graphic court appearance featuring Tom Boss, is wrong but incredibly funny on so many different levels. While Naked Gun will ultimately be the comparison piece for the show, this is in no way so innocent.

The show is penned by Charlie Brooker who when not penning books, or his own show Screen Wipe, was also behind the zombie reality show spin on Big Brother, Dead Set. While the show is incredibly silly in places, it also bares a little bit of the Brooker sophistication with more subtle jokes.

A Touch Of Cloth compares in some ways to all the great detective shows from British television over the last two decades Messiah, Prime Suspect, Inspector Morse, and of course A Touch Of Frost are all given their own hat nods, by Brooker.

Currently the show is enjoying a run on Sky One (at the time of writing) in the UK, global audiences should be able to pick the show up in the near future. There are three stories (grouped into two), that run for six weeks, expect to see a second series next year.

Bob Denver, whose portrayal of goofy castaway Gilligan on the 1960s TV show “Gilligan’s Island” made him an iconic figure to generations of TV viewers, has died. He was 70.

He died Friday at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in North Carolina of complications from treatment he was receiving for cancer, his agent, Mike Eisenstadt, told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

His wife, Dreama, and children Patrick, Megan, Emily and Colin were with Denver, who also had undergone quadruple heart bypass surgery earlier this year.

“He was my everything and I will love him forever,” Dreama Denver said in a statement.

Denver’s signature role was Gilligan, but when he took the role in 1964 he was already widely known to TV audiences for another iconic character, Maynard G. Krebs, the bearded beatnik friend of Dwayne Hickman’s Dobie in the “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis,” which aired on CBS from 1959 to 1963.

Krebs, whose only desire was to play the bongos and hang out at coffee houses, would shriek every time the word “work” was mentioned in his presence.

Gilligan on the other hand was industrious but inept. And his character was as lovable as he was inept. Viewers embraced the skinny kid in the Buster Brown haircut and white sailor hat. So did the Minnow’s skipper, Jonas Grumby, who was played by Alan Hale Jr., and who always referred to his first mate affectionately as “little buddy.”

“As silly as it seems to all of us, it has made a difference in a lot of children’s lives,” Dawn Wells, who played castaway Mary Ann Summers, once said. “Gilligan is a buffoon that makes mistakes and I cannot tell you how many kids come up and say, `But you loved him anyway.”‘

TV critics were less kind, dismissing the show as inane. But after it was canceled by CBS in 1967, it found new audiences over and over in syndicated reruns and reunion films, including 1981’s “The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan’s Island.” (It also led to the recent TBS reality series “The Real Gilligan’s Island.”)

One of the most recent of those films was 2001’s “Surviving Gilligan’s Island: The Incredibly True Story of the Longest Three Hour Tour in History,” in which other actors portrayed the original seven-member cast while three of the four surviving original members, including Denver, narrated and reminisced.

“Gilligan’s Island” writer-creator Sherwood Schwartz insisted that the show had social meaning along with the laughs: “I knew that by assembling seven different people and forcing them to live together, the show would have great philosophical implications.”

Denver went on to star in other TV series, including “The Good Guys” and “Dusty’s Trail,” as well as to make numerous appearances in films and TV shows.

But he never escaped the role of Gilligan, so much so that in one of his top 10 lists — “the top 10 things that will make you stand up and cheer” — “Late Show” host David Letterman once simply shouted out Denver’s name to raucous applause.

“It was the mid-’70s when I realized it wasn’t going off the air,” Denver told The Associated Press in 2001, noting then that he enjoyed checking eBay each day to keep up on the prices “Gilligan’s Island” memorabilia were fetching.

“I certainly didn’t set out to have a series rerun forever, but it’s not a bad experience at all,” he added.

—————————————————————————————————————–

The following is a synopsis from the romantic/erotic/action/thriller, First Degree Lust, from this author:

A night out on the town was all Dennis had in mind. He wasn’t looking for a hookup or even a one-nightstand. But a few spins on the dance floor with Minako quickly lead to much more in her bedroom. And after just one steamy night the married woman decided that she wanted Dennis all to herself, permanently. Not wanting to fall into an escape-proof love trap with a married woman, Dennis succeeds in breaking away from Minako.

But his issue with Minako ends up being far from over when she’s found brutally murdered and the evidence points to him. Becoming the subject of an irresistibly huge and highly-publicized bounty imposed by Minako’s immensely wealthy husband, Tetsuya, Dennis spends an entire weekend trying to stay out of the clutches of ragtag bounty hunters while the city is nearly set ablaze.

He succeeds in clearing his name only to find his life in even graver danger. Someone is now trying to kill him. Who’s trying to kill him and why? And what’s the connection between the people who now want him dead and Minako’s murder?

It left television screens 21 years ago, leaving an audience of fans heartbroken after over a decade of constantly twisting turns, Dallas was one of the biggest shows in television history…. Now it’s back, and better than ever.

In section 15 of Southfork Ranch, John Ross Ewing (Josh Henderson) and Elena Ramos (Jordana Brewster) are digging for oil. After years of searching, they finally struck oil, where else but on the very estate owned by their family.

Christopher Ewing (Jessie Metcalfe) is at a Tennis club trying to gain investors in his renewable energy idea, energy generated through natural methane dug from the sea bed.

Both Ewing’s have something interesting on the table, much like their fathers J.R. (Larry Hagman) and Bobby (Patrick Duffy) used to over two decades earlier. But neither like the plans of the other cousin, and it’s a given that neither will their respective fathers.

Bobby is sick, he has a intestinal cancer, and quick treatment will ensure that the disease does not spread. Before he submits to surgery that may either renew or end his life however he wants to make sure all the family are working on the same team. Visiting J.R. in his nursing home where he has sat in a dormant state for the best part of a decade, Bobby tells J.R. he wants the boys to get on, no fights like they used to have.

Instead of dampening the fire, the opposite occurs and both cousins and Bobby end up in a feud with each other trying to keep or break Miss Ellie’s (J.R. & Bobby’s mother) dying wish, not to drill for oil on Southfork. On Christopher’s wedding day things come to a head, and J.R. wakes from his haze, bitter and burning with hatred for Bobby and his siblings. But does J.R. hold all the cards?

21 years may have past since Dallas left our screens, but little has changed, some of the key players may be different, but those that truly hold the power are still the same. Behind every powerful man is a woman scorned, and Sue Ellen Ewing (Linda Gray) returns as a strong power base and ally for John Ross. And while he is not there from the start, the series has the mysterious feel of Cliff Barnes (Ken Kercheval) the Ewing’s biggest enemy, all over it. Popular characters Ray Krebbs (Steve Kanaly), and Lucy Ewing (Charlene Tilton) are also on hand to lend a little support.

In the US Dallas has scored a regular 8 million viewers, a record for a cable network (the show is shown on TNT), and the stories that are weaved are better, more twisted, and exciting than they ever were. All we need now is someone stepping from the shower after being dead for a long period and we’ll be back on top form.

From episode one the groundwork is set on story arcs that spread beyond the first series (a second series has already been commissioned). And these arcs are on a truly massive scale, with affairs, conspiracies and murder all order of the day.

Unlike the original series there is no time to breath at least not during the first series, each episode is jam packed with important plot (in a Lost style), no one scene has no value, everything moves slowly towards playing a bigger picture.

On the really positive side, I suspect that many will be expecting the old cast to have minor roles, this is not the case, they are their in the action all the way through. And as soon as you see J.R. on his two feet for the first time, you just know that the game is well and truly on.

Dallas is definitely the one to watch, whether it gets the popularity it received last time remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain, the global audience has not yet seen enough of the Ewing’s.

Dallas returns to the UK on Channel Five at the back end of September, and begins on various European Channels from December. Other audiences will get to enjoy Dallas from early next year.

With perhaps the show's biggest star departing, what does the future hold for Saturday Night Live? It's anyone's guess, but here are some ideas.

Though official word has not come from NBC as of yet, after the musical send-off skit at the end of last weekend’s Saturday Night Live, it seems obvious Kristen Wiig will not be returning to the show next season.

For those who did not have the opportunity to watch the show, the final skit started with host Mick Jagger acting as a school official at a ceremony for recent high school graduates. The cast made up the graduates, each wearing graduation robes and caps. Wiig was called to the front of the stage by Jagger and soon music began. What followed was each member of the cast, including producer Lorne Michaels, performing a brief dance with Wiig. By the end of the emotional skit, Wiig was in tears.

There are also rumors that Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg might not return next season, but apparently no decisions have yet to be made concerning the pair.

Wiig has been a huge star on SNL for several years, having first appeared on the show seven years ago. Her presences will be missed by many fans. Some might argue Wiig has even carried the show the last season or two, and while I will not argue with such an opinion, I personally feel other cast members have also had moments of shining through, including Fred Armison, Taran Killam, and Bill Hader.

But there is no doubt SNL has lost its current biggest star. I have watched the show regularly for thirty years and I have not once witnessed such a major send-off skit for a cast member who is departing. It seems not only will fans miss Wiig, but the SNL crew will as well.

But with Wiig leaving, and the possibility of Samberg and Sudeikis leaving, what will next season hold for Saturday Night Live?

Obviously there will be a few new faces. It’s also quite likely at least a couple of this past season’s featured players will be bumped up to regular cast members. It’s not impossible some other regular faces will disappear, as Abby Elliott had apparently had ties to another TV show that was not picked up.

With the next season kicking off during a presidential election session, it’s quite possible SNL will shine brightly, as it did during the 2008 election. However, there is no Tina Fey or Amy Poehler around this time, and with Wiig leaving and possibly Sudeikis, there could be a lack of skilled political comedians.

In my opinion, what should change for SNL’s next season? For one, I’d like to see Sudeikis come back, at least for the political portion of the season. A guest appearance, or even a hosting, by Wiig might be expected, though I sort of feel she should have a year away from the SNL crew, if for no other reason than to give viewers time to miss her.

I would like to see changes made at Weekend Update. I’ve never cared for Seth Meyers on his own, though I have found his banter with another news anchor. If Meyers returns, I suggest he have a co-anchor, though I’ll admit I’m not sure who of the remaining crew would be strong enough to pull off such a gig, perhaps Killam or Abby Elliott.

I have not warmed to Kate McKinnon, who was added late in the season after the departure of Paul Brittain (who I was just warming up to), but I do not fault her for that. So far McKinnon has not had much of a presence on the show, though her minor additions have not been bad. I would like to see more of her next season, with the possibility of her having one or two regular characters and skits. Who knows? She might have the chops to pull off a co-anchor spot on Weekend Update. We don’t know because we’ve not seen enough of her yet.

Jay Pharoah needs to be given more to do, because he appears to have talent. I’d like to see Nasim Pedrad grow a little stronger, and I think she has the potential. Bobby Moynihan? So far he’s not quite “star” material, but he is excellent in the important role of playing secondary characters, and he’s been around long enough to continue. I still miss Will Forte and would love to see him return, especially if Sudeikis is still around (those two played well off one another in several sketches … and for those who think SNL alum never return, don’t forget Al Franken).

The truth is no one knows what next season will hold for SNL. Probably Lorne Michaels isn’t sure at this early stage. A few old faces will return. A few famous names will likely show up. And politics. Other than that, it’s anyone’s guess.
