I have decide to write this article as a result of numerous emails. It seems more and more people are falling victim to bad SEO. The main complaint is that they are paying entirely too much for little or no results. Additionally, many fall prey to bad SEO practices. If you plan to hire an SEO pro in the future, I suggest you use this article as a set of guidelines.

Before going with any SEO firm or individual, do the following:

A) Find out how established and experienced an SEO firm is before you negotiate.

Do they have a sizeable client list under their belt?

Are they published?

B) Scrutinize their portfolio.

What kind of results have they achieved?

Contact a few of their clients. Were they satisfied with the work performed?

C) Consider and confirm their methods?

How will they optimize your site to reach your keywords?

Do they use organic methods? Some individuals or companies use doorway pages, hide text in the background, utilize re-directs and other blacklisted methods. Stay away from these.

D) Get a least three proposals from different SEO firms.

Look at each one carefully. Are there similarities? Proposals will help you see which companies are honest and which are trying to sell you something you don’t need.

What is the cost? The cheapest isn’t always the best, however, the highest price may not be attached to a comprehensive and viable course of action. Try to find find an individual or organization that will give you what you want within your SEO budget.

E) Contract, Contract, Contract.

Get everything in writing. Look over the document carefully. Be sure it covers everything you have discussed, including methods of achieving your desired results. Have the copies signed by both parties. If the job is a large one you may want to consult a lawyer.

F) Clearly state the terms of payment.

While most SEO firms will not do any work for free or agree to a results based pay scale, many competant SEO professionals will not shy away from a base plus performance incentive package. I am not a firm believer in prepaid contracts.. Most SEO professionals will abide by the 50% up front, 50% upon completion standard. Make sure all financial terms are as clearly defined in your contract as the actual scope of work. This will protect all parties involved in the event that expectations are not met.

All in all, try to do your best to educate yourself on SEO. Have a basic understanding of SEO terminology and SEO methodology. Anyone offering SEO services should not have a problem explaining how they intend to get you results. If they fail gain your confidence or raise a red flag for any reason whatsoever, keep searching. You will eventually find someone who will help you reach your goals for a fair price. Happy hunting.

Some people say XHTML on the web has failed, but I say it is our biggest success in the fight for Web Standards.

There is a myth going round in the world (both on- and offline) that says: XHTML is hot and modern, fast and efficient, flexible and userfriendly; and some of my friends (Creating myths) use this myth to plead their case against XHTML (The myth of XHTML).

XHTML is a good thing for the web, though, and it’s a shame that people are trying to make a case against it. To prove this, I’ll flesh out the myth for you and then show you why XHTML is the best thing since sliced bread, when it comes to our fight for Web Standards.

Hot and Modern

Fact of the matter is, XHTML simply is hot, and virtually every company that has heard of Web Standards but has no real knowledge of the Internet considers an XHTML-website to be the hot modern thing to have.

Fast

This is more tricky. If, and that is a big if, you have a valid XHTML document sent as application/xhtml xml, then complying browsers (pretty much anything that isn’t Internet Explorer) will be able to render the page much faster. When you send it as text/html however, there is no implicit speed advantage whatsoever.

Efficient

As for the efficiency, it’s very subjective all around. Some people look at efficiency in bytecounts (Bandwidth), and if you then compare XHTML to HTML you can clearly see that XHTML requires more bandwidth. Others look at how fast one writes a simple XHTML document versus an HTML document, and measure their own typing speed rather than anything else. Overall, XHTML has no implicit efficiency-advantage over HTML: it depends greatly on how you write your pages. That part of the myth holds true, indeed.

Flexible

Flexibility is, of course, a fairly vague concept. What may be flexible to one can be far from it to another. However, most people, when confronted with XHTML and Web Standards, see sites like the CSS Zen Garden (CSS Zen Garden) and mistakenly assume that the flexibility of a table-less design with CSS for the layout is the flexibility of XHTML. That part of the myth holds true, as well.

Userfriendly

Userfriendliness has absolutely nothing to do with XHTML or HTML, it’s a design aspect and thus has more to do with CSS than anything else. Obviously, this part of the myth holds true as well. So what have we learned? Most of the myth of XHTML holds true. But then here’s my question: so what?

Plenty of people are saying we shouldn’t use XHTML on the web (Sending XHTML as text/html Considered Harmful), unless you’re a certain mathematician (Musings - read: have real functional uses for XHTML). This is where the case for XHTML comes into play. XHTML on the web is good, real good, and I’ll tell you why.

Anne (XHTML versus HTML) showed us in February of this year (2004) that XHTML is much more strict than HTML. I would even say, HTML isn’t strict at all. His example is an excellent display of the looseness of HTML, the looseness that translates into unreliability. For what? you wonder. Well, the new wave of course.

I’m willing to bet that almost 90% of all people currently in the webdevelopment sector, on international level, have started out with their HTML’ing skills by looking at the source of pages and copying the (X)HTML for their own needs. One of the biggest problems is that people copy from poor sources; pages made with Frontpage or other such horrible clients. This is hard to avoid, because 99% of the web is a poor source. But lo and behold, the answer to our prayers came to us, the answer being Web Standards, its form being… XHTML!

Why XHTML kicks HTML’s ass

We, as cognizant webdevelopers of today’s Internet, have a certain responsibility. We speak of Standards, we speak of separation of structure and presentation, we speak of CSS-layouts instead of tables… but so far, we seem to forget how our audience works: by use of examples.

I believe that XHTML is our future. Perhaps not the long-term future that the Web of 2015 will be built on, but the future of Web Standards themselves. We’re fighting the cause of Web Standards, and XHTML is our weapon.

Sure, we should inform companies of the benefits of Standards themselves, rather than the benefits of XHTML. But it is XHTML that will boost our cause. Most companies that are becoming aware of the changing situation on the web are calling for their sites to become XHTML. It may be a myth that XHTML will solve all those problems that we see in old websites, but whether or not it is a myth is completely irrelevant: XHTML is what is getting companies to become aware of Web Standards. Not HTML.

I can’t stress that point enough: companies are becoming aware of our fight for Standards thanks to the existance of XHTML. If you think otherwise, you’ve clearly not had many companies ask you to build their website in a new and modern way: XHTML is one of their first demands.

So what message are we giving out by saying we shouldn’t use XHTML? Exactly, that Standards aren’t good. Any webdeveloper who’s even just remotely up to date with the current web will say that’s nonsense! absolute bullocks! — and they’re right. But we shouldn’t be trying to convince ourselves, we should be trying to convince the rest of the world (for a change)!

Telling a customer that their demand for XHTML is foolish (but then using terms you can say to a customer, of course) will cause more harm to our fight for Standards than anything else. The customer will think you’re trying to convince them that modern webbuilding isn’t a good thing, maybe because you’re used to using Frontpage (the customer doesn’t know, they’ll fill in these blanks on their own!), maybe because you find it too costly to build according to Web Standards, maybe something else. But under no circumstances will a customer, who has no interest in the details of Web Standards and therefore never investigate on the matter, think that you’re merely saying that XHTML isn’t right and that HTML is better. Isn’t HTML that outdated thing that people keep warning about all the time? Like, my neighbor says HTML is bad because it’s “so 1996″. That’s how the companies will respond to you if you push HTML instead of XHTML.

text/html 101

So seriously, what’s the big deal with an XHTML document being sent as text/html, when you do it on a customer site? Yes, I know that the official specification says it should be application/xhtml xml, the specification also says that for backwards compatibility we’re allowed to send it as text/html though. Yes, I know that XHTML sent as text/html will be parsed as “tag soup” (*groan*) by Internet Explorer… but did anyone realize that Internet Explorer will treat it as tag soup either way? Okay, okay, if you do everything completely by the book, you can get IE to work in Standards mode — but IE’s Standards mode is far from Standards compliant, so why should we care? Weren’t we working in favor of Standards, here? Hello! Using XHTML is in favor of Web Standards, using HTML is against! Let me back up that statement with some examples.

HTML is not strict (XHTML versus HTML), and thus unreliable material to be used as an example. The more we spread HTML out there, the more people who are -just- getting into this world will think HTML is fine. They’ll discover that certain tags, like

, can be omitted. They’ll stop using those tags and proceed to give an even worse example to the people that look at their source.

Now imagine doing that with XHTML. Your pages won’t validate if you omit such tags; people looking at your source will copy it, and if they ever accidentally forgot a closing li tag, their page won’t validate. They’ll correct the problem and other people looking at their source will still have a good example in front of them to learn from. All in all, the Web is slowly becoming a stricter place, and that is what we ultimately need to achieve, if we wish to have Web Standards become truly successful.

Admittedly, this whole example is of much less value when people write XHTML pages that don’t validate. But even then, an XHTML page can be better than an HTML page.

Additionally, it should be noted that Web Standards-aware people should really just work with something that ensures valid XHTML and simply send it as application/xhtml xml — such as this site right here. No such tools yet? Create them! Or urge the creators of your tool to focus on ensuring valid XHTML. There are excellent modules that you can incorporate (HTML Tidy Library Project), if you care enough to ensure valid XHTML, and really, people creating blogs like Movable Type or Wordpress should most definitely care enough.

On the current web, however, there is no serious downside to using XHTML with a text/html MIME-type. Sure, some people (Sending XHTML as text/html Considered Harmful) proclaim that it is harmful — but the situation of 2 years ago is not the situation of today. Additionally, that document on XHTML contradicts itself. It says using XHTML is considered harmful, then proceeds to say that there are no cases where it causes actual harm. It makes things more difficult if you’re used to a certain behaviour, true enough, but that’s not harmful.

However, there are two little parts from Ian Hickson’s (Sending XHTML as text/html Considered Harmful) document that I want to carefully address:

The only real advantage to using XHTML rather than HTML4 is that it is then possible to use XML tools with it.

With HTML being counter-productive to our fight for Web Standards — and XHTML being extremely productive — there is a much bigger advantage to using XHTML. The advantage is that XHTML makes companies worldwide become aware of Web Standards. HTML has severely failed to do so and continues to fail by not being strict enough to be of any use to us.

Also note that I would personally suggest that even advanced authors not use XHTML sent as text/html, since many authors copy and paste markup from others and thus may easily end up copying the valid XHTML markup but using it as HTML4.

This is definitely a 2002-statement, as I don’t see that happen much at all anymore on the web of today. Rather, people copy source and validate as XHTML, and if they mis-copy (or copy from an invalid page) they’ll realize they did something wrong, because the Validator will tell them they did something wrong. With the debate on XHTML and Web Standards being so incredibly prominent everywhere you go when you look for webdevelopment-related information, we should stick to giving a good example by giving them good XHTML to learn from.

So to conclude, sending XHTML as text/html causes no damage or harm anywhere today, as long as your XHTML does validate. And if you want Web Standards to become more and more wide-spread, stick to using XHTML and validate your pages.

No Webmaster or person with any online presence can afford to ignore the subject of traffic. Without enough traffic, no site can ever hope to be successful. Yet the reality on the ground is that competition for traffic is fierce and it is for this reason that most webmasters are always struggling to gain and maintain a reasonable flow of traffic to their site.

Content is King But You Need A Good Vehicle To Carry It In

There is no denying the fact that content is king and will always be the major determinant as to how much traffic your site can actually attract and retain. But it is also equally true that you will need a vehicle to carry that content. Good books will hardly get read if they are not attractively packaged, complete with a well-designed beautiful cover. Readers will find it difficult to read if the pages have not been neatly and attractively laid out so that reading is made as pleasurable as possible.
This applies even more in the online world because it is not very easy to read something on a computer for long time. This means that webmasters and site owners have to make that extra effort to present their content in a manner that is attractive and pleasing to the eye as possible.

Take A Closer Look At High Traffic Sites

Just take the time to have a closer look at your favorite, high traffic sites. You will quickly notice that without exception, all of them are beautifully and attractively designed in such a way that it is easy for you to make your way around the site.
Good web designs will not attract attention to the design as such, but people will find that they unconsciously stay longer at the site and end up enjoying their visit immensely. It also becomes easier to lure them back for more visits again and again. Everybody knows the value of returning visitors in any site.

Excellent Web Design Can Be Free

This statement may sound like a lie even to the very experienced because people have often paid out a lot of money and have still ended up with a lousy design. How then can one get a good design for free? Or a unique amazingly well designed and attractive choice of templates that are free? The truth is that different top design companies have different business models and some of these business models favor the user in giving for free certain services that many paying clients do not receive.
One site whose design aspects and available templates stand out is Sitekreator.com. What has further contributed to this site’s rapid growth is the fact that web design and building tools at the site are very easy to use even for newbies. Other strong and useful points that stick out for users are consistency of layout and formatting and the ease with which one can switch between designs swiftly and without having to interfere with the content. Serious webmasters or marketing-oriented people will also love the site traffic statistics that are very easy to follow and analyze so as to implement improvements and adjustments quickly at the site.

Many people mistakenly think that they have to hire a hot web designer for thousands of dollars in order to create an eye-catching website. This is not true, especially for the do-it-yourselfer who wants more control over the look and feel of a website.

Most websites are based on only one web page template. That’s right, just one. This means that all you have to do in order to get started is to buy a web page template that will work well for your web business and use software such as Macromedia DreamWeaver or Microsoft FrontPage in order to modify the template to your needs.

Now, many new web entrepreneurs find even the thought of designing their own web pages to be an overwhelming task. Others do not have the time and would rather contract this work out. One thing that can save you money, though is finding a web page template to base your site on and hand this over to the web designer to modify, rather than having them create one from scratch. This alone could save you hundreds of dollars in web design costs.

There are many places all over the Internet to find web page templates. Some companies charge per template and others charge on a subscription basis, so that for one fee you can download as many web page templates as you want for this fee. For those who wish to have more choices or who intend to put up multiple websites, the subscription-based service is the way to go.

Now that you’ve bought your web page template and want to get started, how do you learn DreamWeaver or FrontPage? First, there are many good “Dummy” and “Idiot” books on the market for both of these web design software packages. Most will find FrontPage a little easier to learn when first beginning, but I recommend learning DreamWeaver from the get-go since this is a more powerful package and the standard package of the industry. The longer you are a web designer, the more you’ll want DreamWeaver so you may as well learn this package upfront.

Many web entrepreneurs who finally take the plunge and put up their first website, will eventually go on to put up additional sites as well. Why? In many web businesses, it helps to put up slightly different websites focused on a slightly different target market. For instance, you may have a website about auto parts, but wish to put up another one about customized auto parts or one about BMW accessories. In this case, you’ll need a handful of web page templates at your disposal for your different web businesses.

No matter which direction you go in hiring a web designer or doing it yourself, you can save money by picking and handful of web page templates that suit you and your business needs.

If you’re just starting out in your career as a web designer, you likely have a lot of work left to do before you have an established portfolio. After all, it’s hard to convince potential new customers that you have the talent and skills to create a website if you have no portfolio to show them. You’re caught between a rock and a hard place - you need clients to build a portfolio, and you need a portfolio to gain new clients. On the other end of the business is the solo web designer who has been successful for many years but finds that they can’t keep up with the demand. There’s only so many hours in a day and the unique challenges of designing web sites for other people can be very overwhelming.

What to do?

Web page templates offer a number of solutions which can help both new and experienced web designers alike. For those who don’t know, a web page template is a fully designed web page which contains blank elements that you fill in - such as title, content, etc. There was a time when web page templates were virtually non-existent, but once marketers began to see their potential, so did the demand from the public grow for them. These days you can find them everywhere, ranging from mere pennies to hundreds of dollars each.

The Originality Quandary…..

Now you might be thinking “But they’re not MY designs. There’s just something not right about it…..”. Well, yes, that’s a valid thought. The artist within you is protesting the use of something which was crafted by another designer. You might even feel like you’re violating your own creativity. Pride and ego are powerful forces indeed. But, you also have to remember that you are in business, and sometimes that means making decisions you don’t necessarily like to better the company.
There is another element to this as well - you must never let your own creativity become more important than fulfilling the needs of the customer. This is a huge mistake too many people make. For example, if you think the background should be red, and the customer wants it to be purple, it is something you must respect. While subtle persuasion sometimes works (and that’s another topic altogether), the point is that by focusing on the client’s wants and needs is more important than your ego. They don’t care if you used a template, and most won’t even know what it is anyway - but if they actually like it and want to use it, then why not?

So, just what can web page templates do for you?

Save Time
With web page templates, the actual design process is already done. All you need to do is customize it, add content and basically “fill in the blanks”. This is especially useful if you are very busy and want to speed up production when you have a large number of clients to juggle at one time. You may want to make this an option to all new potential clients.

Enhance & Build Your Portfolio
Whether you have no portfolio at all or have one bulging with samples of your work, adding templates is a great way to show people that you have the talent to give them what they want. This is particularly important to new web designers who usually have few samples to show clients. By using web page templates, you are building credibility and interest.

Providing More Options and Weeding Out Clients
Filling up your website with web page template designs gives potential customers a reason to stay and thus increases their interest in your services. Some people create entire directories of web page templates which clients may browse through to pick and choose which design they would like for their website. This way, they not only see samples of your completed work, they are presented with ideas and choices. This removes all the guesswork in trying to figure out what kind of design your client wants. And we all know how frustrating it can be building a site from scratch, then modifying this or that, tweaking here and there until the client is satisfied. Some clients seem to never be happy. To be blunt - offering templates is a good way to weed out the fussy ones.

So What If You’re No Picasso
Maybe you don’t have fancy graphic design skills or courses. Maybe your artistic ability extends no further than drawing a circle which looks more like a depressed square. No problem. With web page templates, most of the work is done for you and the majority of your customers are going to have basic web site needs anyway. If you do get stuck on something, there are 1000’s of tutorials & forums where you can get help. I remember tutoring one young fellow starting out who didn’t even know what meta tags were. But, he was full of ambition and drive and now runs a quite successful web design business of his own using templates as the base of his work. He has happy customers and that’s really what is most important.

An Extra Source of Income
You don’t have to use just other people’s templates. You can create your own and may want to consider selling copies to other web designers as a source of extra income. This can be quite profitable if you’re any good at it.
Most web designers I’ve known tend to use both their own web page template designs and ones they purchased from other sources, along with designing some web sites from scratch. Suprisingly, I’ve often been asked BY web designers how to make a web page template. It’s very simple I say…. “Design the graphics and layout of the page and then stop. Don’t add text, don’t add content, don’t customize the logo. There you go - you’ve got a template!”

Things To Consider:

Not all web page templates are equal. Some use CSS, some don’t. Some are in .psd format, others are in .html format. Before purchasing templates, make sure you know what you’re getting.

Watch out for stolen templates! Some sites steal web page templates or purchase large collections of templates which supposedly have “resell rights”. It can be hard to spot these stolen copies and most people don’t realize it until it’s too late and they can’t get a refund. Don’t put money in the pockets of these thieves if you can help it. I recently had someone contact me stating that she found my email address in one such collection (I put my contact data in the meta tags of every template) and she had some questions about using the templates, but the person she bought them from was ignoring her. It didn’t take me long to figure things out. I’ve been fighting template thieves for years. Yet again, some moron had hijacked my templates and was trying to sell them as their own. And yet again, my lawyer had his hands full.

Always read copyright information and terms of use documents before purchasing. Every web page template source has their own set of rules for how their templates can and cannot be used. If in doubt, ask questions.

Royalty free? Maybe not. While some web page template developers offer you the ability to re-use the same template over and over again without having to pay extra fees, some aren’t so generous. The ideal web page template is one which can be purchased for a one-time fee and used as often as needed. Again, if in doubt, ask questions.

While there is much more I would have loved to include in this article, I’m afraid there just isn’t enough room.

On a final note….. Have fun with your web design business, and it will never feel like work.

The acceptance of website templates as an alternative to website designing can be attributed to the ability of templates in improving the work efficiency of the webmaster. Of course, they also reduce the costs involved in setting up a website.

Website templates have evolved over the years from simple HTML web page templates to the Flash template designs that allow for dynamic and customized websites. Getting a website designed from scratch is an expensive and time-consuming process. Moreover, it is not easy to get the right web designer, very often projects get delayed because of difference in opinion between the web designer and the webmaster and delay usually implies escalating costs. Website templates help to solve this problem by offering a selection of web page designs at a fraction of the cost of a professionally designed web page.

Multimedia Flash and other professionally designed templates enable webmasters to select from millions of permutations and combinations without having to approach a web designer. Inexperienced webmasters benefit more from using website templates as it frees their time and allows them to concentrate on other issues regarding the development of their website. There are many websites that offer templates that can easily be customized to a webmasters requirements.

Arriving at the right website design can speed up the website development process as after freezing the design, adding content to the website is not very time consuming and can be accomplished relatively easily. Website templates allow webmasters to pay more attention to this critical aspect of website development, and thus are more likely to receive traffic from search engines.

As website templates provide a readymade and consistent design for each page; they help in binding a website together, giving it uniformity and coherence, and in facilitating smooth browsing. Templates are available with editable and uneditable regions so chances of content getting erased are reduced. An important advantage that website templates offer is the ease with which they can be modified, the HTML and CSS components are not very difficult to master and once the basic website is in place and online, a webmaster can crystallize his concepts and customize the website to suit his business needs by fine tuning the content or adding JavaScript, if required.

Thus, website templates, that cost round $50 - $200, are of great help to webmasters in running the website more efficiently. They also allow the site to generate revenue quickly by allowing the webmaster to sooner focus on producing content, and implementing marketing activities such as web page optimization and competitor analysis.

Gone are the days when you had to rely on a web-designer to design your websites. New technologies with innovative ideas have brought out a new variant to this trend in the form of ready to use website templates.

So what are web templates?

Well, to put it in a simple way, web templates are nothing but ready made web-pages that can be used to create websites in seconds! How you ask? Web templates act as html coded dummy web pages that contain model content. Now these templates can be edited with ease (to add content, graphics, logo, pictures etc) to create professional web pages in less time.

How to edit web templates

Now the next possible question that arises is as how to edit the web templates; isn’t it? That’s simple! Most web templates are editable and can be edited using popular html editors like FrontPage, DreamWeaver, GoLive and Photoshop. These html editors are easy to use and have a friendly interface. You need not be a pro to use them. Anyway in case anyone finds the editing part difficult they can always go for template customization services that are provided by most web template providers.

Are web templates really that green?

As a matter of fact, web templates can really help you save up lots of money and time and best of all help you do professional work. Just imagine hiring a web designer to design your website. As most of you must be aware, a web designer can charge you anything between $50 to $200 for designing a single web-page! And then there is the time factor. Usually web-designers take a minimum of 10 -15 days to complete a website. Here’s where web templates come to the rescue.

Using a web template to create a website would cost you anything around $20 - $40 and that’s not all; websites designed using web templates could be over within a day after editing and pasting graphics and will look professional too! So now it doesn’t take an extraordinary mind to figure out which is more lucrative.

What about Flash websites?

Designing a flash website is a real pain and might take lots of time and money. But in case you believe in playing it smart your best bet would be to go for flash website templates. There are many template websites that offer flash website templates of high quality at low costs. All you need to do is insert content and you are ready to go!

Hey wait a minute I need to create a copyrighted website!

No problem! Almost all website template providers offer an option of copyrighted to non-copyrighted templates. The major different between a copyrighted and a non copyrighted template is the fact that copyrighted templates are sold only once and the purchaser of the copyrighted template gets all user rights over it whereas in a non copyrighted template the rights of usage stays with the template ownership company and can be sold again and again. So in case you need to create a copyrighted website that is unique be sure to go for copyrighted website templates.

How do I find out a quality template from an inferior one?

Quality web templates have the following features:

Web-templates should be editable

Web templates should be compatible with popular html editors

The coding should be such that there is no alteration in the structure of the template on content/graphic insertion

The web template should be easy to upload

A webpage generated by a web template should download with ease in any browser

So in case your templates don’t comply with the above, you can be sure they are of inferior quality. Website templates are a great and easy way to host your website. So in case you are game, go for good web template providers. Some good online website template provides are buytemplates.net, freewebtemplates.com, dreamweaver-templates.net and trendytemplates.com.

First off, I am a designer. Now you’re thinking, here’s this guy trying to convince me to hire a designer costing a few hundred to a few thousand dollars instead of buying a pre-made web template for about $60. Well, these days most companies don’t have the money to invest in a costly web site and there are thousands of hungry web designers out there, plus now there are web template resources. These resources can equal great value and effectiveness for the customer as well as increased business for the web designer.

For the customer it is important to be prepared. They need to know what their website should look like, how it will perform, the ability to update and add to it easily, so as not to be held hostage by a design firm’s technical code talk.

Now for the reality of web templates. There are hundreds of web templates and many web sites offering the same hundreds of templates. There are templates for a wide range of business types: from agriculture to wedding sites. Depending on the business category you may find 20 to 400 hundred different template packages to choose from. Most look quite good, but remember you may not be the only company that buys the template. There could be sites that look the same as yours unless you buy an exclusive on the design. The price for an exclusive design ranges from $800 to $3000, meaning you must be the first customer to purchase the template to be used only by you. On the other hand, prior to your purchase of a particular template, several customers may have bought that same template and can use it as well, and as a result will have made this template non-exclusive.

Ok, here is where I come in, as well as my fellow designers. The times for web site design are changing as competition grows daily, not just from low-cost template designs but from low-cost designers. I am not going to list any particular template design company as there are only a few choice ones. Templates are an excellent resource to offer your customers as you are showing your willingness to work with them for reasonable costs. You can fine tune the design, whether it be graphic changes as well as text. As a rule, many companies do not have the software to perform modifications to the web site template or they have the software but not the time or expertise. The template is a good starting point and can save costs, but modifications are usually needed as one size does not fit all. This way the customer gets good value and you get new business.
