This post will describe one of the possible solutions, just look on the internet and you will find many others. I just want to confirm that this works great (at least on my Wildfire S, Cyanogenmod 7.2).

Briefly we are going to format part of our SD card as if it was internal memory, it’s highly suggested to have ROOT privileges and to have installed apps like Titanium Backup and ROM Manager before proceeding.

1. first backup all the content of your SD card, since we are going to format it
2. install ROM Manager and flash the ClockworkMod Recovery
3. turn off phone (remove battery and then reinsert it), and boot in recovery mode (power button + volume down)
4. go to Advanced > Partition SD set size to 512-1024MB (depending on your SD size) > set Swap size to 0 > reboot the phone
5. download http://www.darktremor.info/files/a2sd/dtapps2sd-2.7.5.3-beta04-signed.zip and put it into your SD card
6. reboot again in recovery mode, go to Mount & Storage and click on mount data and mount system until they become unmount data and unmount system.
7. go back to the main recovery screen > Install zip from sd card > select downloaded file > reboot the phone
8. once rebooted (it may reboot twice) open the Terminal Emulator (if you dont’t have it, get one) and insert the following commands:
   - su (gets root privileges)
   - a2sd zipalign
   - a2sd cachesdreset
9. done! The phone will automatically reboot, if you to enable also the a2sd extream mode (that also moves the application data to the SD) now insert:
   - su
   - a2sd datasd
10. to check the succesfull installation open Titanium Backup and in the home page you should see a SD card (a2sd) label in the space graph

Up to few days ago, the only way to root the Wildfire S was using the XTC-Clip to get S-OFF (if it wasn’t already). Now, on the 8 of December 2012, it’s not necessary anymore! Please be aware that in the next few days the following procedure may not be up to date.

1. First you need to UNLOCK the BOOTLOADER, you just follow the procedure on HTC dev website: http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader at the end of this step you should see the ULOCKED in the boot menu of your phone
2. The phone now is still S-ON, and it will remain like that but we will be able to root it anyways!
3. Then we could just use the HTC Super Tool (v3): http://barbey.me/ but in my case a little trick was necessary, so just download and unzip it for now
4. Download and install (if you haven’t already done during step 1) the android SDK: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
5. Now the trick is overwriting the file adb.exe from the SDK with the one of the Super Tool
6. Start the Super Tool and follow steps 1 and 3 or 1 and 2, the reboot!
7. To check if it’s finally rooted use for instance this app
