High Five For Friday!

It's finally Friday.

Amen. Amen. & Amen.

Last night after work our office got together at Alice's house. Her husband used to work in our office...but died suddenly last year :( She is the nicest person and she seemed to be doing really well!

These are some of the fab ladies I work with and some spouses of co-workers as well.

Alice has an AMAZING house. She let us all walk around and tour it. One of my favorite things was this GIANT pencil in the corner. Their style is so eclectic and modern, everything flowed so nicely together.

Thoughts: I have this mirror that has been sitting in a closet for a couple years now. I wanted to turn it into a chalkboard for Connor. Can you spray paint on top of a mirror? What color should we paint the frame?

We got our Citrus Lane box in yesterday as well. This month's theme was "fun in the sun". I am loving getting our box of goodies every month and so is Connor boy.

Knot Genie

To say that my kid has a fro would be and understatement. His curls are precious, but so hard to brush and tame. He screams every time I try and comb his hair because it gets so tangled! It just breaks my heart.

This is my view every day in rush hour DFW traffic. Mr. Whiny McWhinester. I mean seriously....this kid beats all in the whining department. Is this what they mean when they say "terrible twos"??? Oy...I need a chill pill every day when I get home.

Thank you all for your kind words and prayers from yesterdays post. If it's meant to be it will happen, but I know God always has us right where He wants us!

Can we talk a minute about Smash. OMG....the season finale was everything I thought it would be and I'm so glad Karen didn't back down. Karen had her moment to shine and I was SO happy about that! I can't wait until next season starts back up again. Smash was probably my favorite new show this fall.

The drama, the singing, the dancing, everything was so fun to watch. If you haven't seen Smash I'm sure you can watch it online or Netflix it or something....

I'm actually sort of caught up at work. That is unheard of for me. I'm finally starting to feel comfortable in my new position and I feel like I have a good grasp on things. I work with an amazing group of folks and I'm so thankful! Speaking of work....I better get back to that.......

A bunch of random randomness today. I have a lot going on right now...I'm sort of stressed out and my anxiety level has been teetering on overload. At least I didn't get barfed on while walking out the door for work this morning right?

Anyway- Got my much hyped about Gossip Girl Birchbox edition in the mail. I liked most of what I got. I don't really understand the body lotion. It's tinted. Is it supposed to give you color or something or is it lotion? eh. I do LOVE the Stila sparkly eyeliner. It's very easy to apply and it's much more fun than regular ole eyeliner. It's does have a copper sparkle to it.

Mother's Day 2012

We didn't have a very traditional mother's day this year. I picked up Connor on Friday after work and he was burning up. When I got home we took his temperature and he was running a really high fever. He was pretty whiny and cuddly all weekend. Saturday Terence took him to the pediatrician. He did a strep test and we got some antibiotics. Yesterday morning he finally started acting more like himself and we were pretty happy about that! :-) Poor kid hardly ate anything...that is the only thing that worries me when he gets sick, I worry he's getting enough to eat. It was hard to get him to even drink water.

On Sunday we finally got out of the house and we took a few pictures outside:

Oh Lord thank you for this child you've so lovingly given to me....I pray I can raise him right...and his life is used to honor you.

Terence & Connor got me this sweet Willow Tree figure.

I also got a Godiva cheesecake and just about made myself sick. It was worth every.single.calorie. Ha ha ha! I'm sad we didn't make it to church, but they don't like sick babies in the nursery :/ I love my little family so much, through the good times and in bad. I have the most loving husband who keeps me in line & loves me with all my faults and I have a precious son. I'm thankful to God every day.

My sister in law makes these really good pancakes with nutella in the middle. It sort of looks like this:

You can do this with pancakes, bread, or whatever you want. Just fill the inside, then cut and seal it and you have what the kids call a "happy cake"! It's a lot of fun and really easy to make with the cut-n-seal.

Dressing for your Shape

I'm no fashion expert, but I do know what I like and what is comfortable. I'm not exactly where I want to be right now as far as weight and how I look in clothing. I tend to gravitate towards lose pants and blousy tops. They are very forgiving, and thank goodness they are in style right now. But I've also been asked if I'm expecting before....by the way....NEVER ask that. Ever.

That's why you have to be careful when wearing stuff like this! I don't want to wear skin tight tops that show my muffin top, but I don't want to look like a tent either....
Blousy tops are in. It doesn't mean you are about to pop out a kid yo!
I have a curvy figure and unfortunately a Kardashian booty. (Without the itty bitty waste) :/

Below is a style board I created. It's things I would probably pick out while shopping. It doesn't necessarily mean I would get THESE items. I usually shop at TJMaxx or Marshall's to try and get the "look for less". If I want to splurge I'll go to the Anthropologie sale room. Everything goes on sale people...everything. It will eventually go on sale, and trust me you'll be kicking yourself when you see a top you go 2 weeks later for 50% off. Soft, flowy,and breezy describes my summer style. And a little bit of stretch in a pant never hurt either ;)

Also-pairing with a statement necklace or fun colorful jewelry is fun too!

Have ya'll seen the TV show Shark Tank? It's on Friday nights and it's one of mine and Terence's favorite shows. A couple weeks ago they had a toddler sippy cup on called "Lollacup".

Oh my gosh the idea is ingenius! It's a sippy cup with a flexible straw & has a weighted end that anchors it in the liquid, so young children can drink effectively even when the cup is tilted. Why can't I think of things like this???

Anyway, after the show ended I got online and ordered one. We love it so far and it works perfectly. The straw stays weighted in the water, so no matter how your child tilts the cup they are able to drink every last drop! Amazeballs!

I know a lot of seniors who are graduating this year.  They are ready for the summer of their lives and then they'll be off to collage in no time! Lets just not think about Connor doing that for awhile eh?
I remember starting my first year of college. It was overwhelming, exciting, and I was in a place I'd never been before. It's a fresh start!  A place to make new friends and memories for the next four years.  College is also extremely expensive these days. I shutter to think of what the cost will be when Connor is in school....sigh....

Mayfest Fun!

Here in Fort Worth they have a weekend festival the first weekend of May called "Mayfest".

It sort of reminds me of Toad Suck Daze back home in Conway :-)

We had a great family day out yesterday...of course I was sweating like a PIG! It's already so hot here in Texas....I need to work out and get a hot bod so I can wear some shorts and not be ashamed of my white legs :P Of course there were lots of people there wearing crap they shouldn't have been wearing so that made me feel better, but seriously. This may be a sundress summer because I don't like shorts????

I am going on a juice fast starting today so we'll see how it goes. I say a fast...but really I think I'm going to have a juice for dinner every night and eat a light lunch mid day. I'm just not happy with my muffin rolls and I want to feel better about myself. Especially now that summer is here.

Excuse my hot and tired looking self... we had worked the early morning Sunday school class at 8:30. We had EIGHT two year olds! God bless all you Mom's with multiples...I just don't know if I could do it! I was beat! Then we stopped for a Starbucks and Connor dumped it all over the back seat of my car and onto the carpet....sigh...just another day! Pick and choose your battles. He's becoming and very opinionated and defiant two year old some days...but other times he just melts my heart and is so loving.

Thank goodness for child leashes...especially in places like this!

We had a great weekend. I spent most of my free time devouring the ever popular "50 Shades of Grey" series everyone is talking about....and let me just say it did not disappoint! But now I am left hanging and I must read the 2nd one asap! This book as pulled me in hook, line, and sinker.

I love a good romance .....and this is WAY more than a romance let me say...blushing red romance. I wish Terence would read it. I think most women wish their men would read it. My husband is not a reader, but dang...I wish he would, it might inspire some spice in our 11 year marriage....you know what I'm saying??? ha ha!!! I really loved KLaw's review. She's the funniest writer and as blunt as I'll get out...but she doesn't hold back and that is why I love her blog :-)

Okay enough about that...have you read the book? What do you think about it?

Connor right now you are every bit a 2 year old.

You run and jump off things. It scares me to death....but you are all boy! You've also been rambling a lot. Although I don't understand what you are saying half the time it's fun to see you get so excited about things. I wish I had more time with you during the day, but I do enjoy our evenings together and we have so much fun!

I’ve lived in the great state of Texas for almost five years now. My husband is from Fort Worth. We met and married in Arkansas, then he moved me here to the “big city." Everyone back home likes to come to Texas to shop and check out all the attractions. I had always loved to visit, so I knew I would love living here too!

Texas has a wide variety of museums, shopping and restaurants to choose from. There is so much to do here it’s almost impossible to get bored. In our area of DFW (Fort Worth) we like to go hiking and be outdoors. We also enjoy visiting Cedar Hill State Park & Dinosaur Valley State Park. It’s so nice to get out in nature and clear our heads. Connor LOVES being outside and the lakes are just gorgeous!

It doesn’t take long to feel that Texas pride!

Fort Worth also has one of the best zoos I’ve ever been to. There is a choo- choo train that goes all around the zoo and it’s perfect for kids. A must-see in the city is the Fort Worth Water Gardens. It’s a manmade waterfall paradise. It's also where Terence proposed to me almost 12 years ago!

The Botanical Gardens is one of our favorite places to picnic and take pictures. The Japanese garden is so beautiful -- the plants and flowers are breathtaking. If you're looking for the Old West, you've come to the right place, partner! The Fort Worth Stock Yards feature a winery, the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and lots of Mexican food! You can take in a rodeo and spot more cowboys than you’ve ever seen in your entire life.

Downtown Fort Worth is a hopping place to be as well. At Sundance Square you’ll find live music and lots of great BBQ & Mexican restaurants. Fort Worth is a fantastic place to live and it has a wonderful down-home feel.

When we want to escape our city for a bit we always head to our neighboring city Dallas.

Dallas has some of the best shopping you’ll find and a wide variety of restaurants. The Galleria and North Park Mall are two great places to shop. One of my favorite places is Sprinkles Cupcakes. I’d drive 100 miles to get one of those!
We’ve also been to the Dallas Aquarium and it was a blast! You’ll see all sorts of sea life and other animals up close and personal.

Dallas hosts so many great concerts and sporting events. It’s the home of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys. Texans are some of the proudest people I’ve ever met and I’m starting to understand why. They have so much to be proud of! Texas is such a huge state that some say it’s almost like its own country. There is so much to do here and so much variety. And you know what? I am starting to believe everything is bigger and better in Texas! Texas has been good to me and I’m proud to call it my home. Our pastor told this story a couple weeks ago and I thought it was funny....yet so true!

There once was a rich man who was near death. He was very grieved because he had worked so hard for his money and he wanted to be able to take it with him to heaven. So he began to pray that he might be able to take some of his wealth with him.

An angel hears his plea and appears to him. "Sorry, but you can't take your wealth with you." The man implores the angel to speak to God to see if He might bend the rules.

The man continues to pray that his wealth could follow him. The angel reappears and informs the man that God has decided to allow him to take one suitcase with him. Overjoyed, the man gathers his largest suitcase and fills it with pure gold bars and places it beside his bed.

Soon afterward the man dies and shows up at the Gates of Heaven to greet St. Peter. St. Peter seeing the suitcase says, "Hold on, you can't bring that in here!"

But, the man explains to St. Peter that he has permission and asks him to verify his story with the Lord. Sure enough, St. Peter checks and comes back saying, "You're right. You are allowed one carry-on bag, but I'm supposed to check its contents before letting it through."

St. Peter opens the suitcase to inspect the worldly items that the man found too precious to leave behind and exclaims, "You brought pavement?!!!"

A humbling reminder you can't take it with you. It's funny how something we find so valuable on Earth has absolutely no value in Heaven. It's what the streets are made of! Can you imagine???

Teething babies are for the birds.
Most moms can tell when their child is teething because they are cranky, drooling, have a runny nose, and even have a fever. Connor just turned 2 years old, and we are still dealing with teething issues. It’s not as continuous as the first year, but cutting those molars is a bear!
