Ocean Moods thirty five is coming off the easel today. The ever changing moody ways of Mother Nature and the Gulf of Mexico mirror my emotions this week. OM 35 is a 30x30x1.5 on canvas.

HORSE, new work

I’m in love with horses, always have been, would so love to have another horse, but sadly where I live won’t allow it. So this collection of new paintings was inspired by my passion for horses, my first love as a young girl. There’s another reason for this new series, HORSE, it is to hopefully raise funds for Alaqua Animal Refuge. This no kill rescue located near Freeport, Florida is a 10 acre healing safe sanctuary for all kinds of animals. I plan on donating 50% of profits to the refuge from the first 6 paintings sold , so if you love animals and especially horses when you adopt one of these six HORSE paintings you will also be helping save a horse and supporting the many other animals at the refuge.

When asked in an interview what happens when she paints, Joan replies, “nothing”,”I paint”, “I don’t think”, “sometimes my hands get all dirty”.

I love Joan Mitchell’s work, her words and her paintings resonate deeply in this artist, dog lover, woman, human.

Others, it’s what I’m naming the collection of posts I’ll be sharing once in a while from other artist’s words and works as I find them. There’s not much original thought anymore but sometimes I find other artists interpretations to be really interesting. Watch as artist Sandro Kopp using Skype in a novel way, allowing him access to sitters for his portrait work in any part of the world.

canvas therapy…these paintings are about VENTING

it’s cheap therapy…well, maybe not so cheap a therapy because they used to be lovely paintings I loved
hanging in my gallery. Then I made them all white, I erased them…but WTF…they are mine and I can do what I want with them…right?
My usually maintained ZEN mindset blew out the door on a fucking cloud… Yeah Yeah…I get how we don’t have any control over most things…yada yada yada. This action of belligerent reaction to a crappy hand of cards felt so good!!! no regrets! bye bye lovely paintings, you were sacrified to the gods of sanity. Does that make any sense? probably not.
It was a day of madness… literally….a day of being MAD. A day of trying to cope with the sadness from watching My Mother’s life slowly unraveling from the affects of Dementia . And dealing with the grievous interaction from a relative who doesn’t relate well, not with me anyway.

the paintings are not for sale. I am sure there ‘s lots more to rant about before this chapter of my life is done…and somehow this helped let off some pressure.

Next time you hit the wall I highly recommend this form of therapy… there are no calories, no hangover and it’s not illegal.

BLOG BLOCK?

Do I have a blogging phobia? Been mulling this possibility over recently because when I sit down to add a post to my blog my mind goes completely blank!
It’s not like I don’t have a few good ideas but most often they only come to me when I can’t immediately write it down, like running errands or on a morning bike ride. Then when I sit down to blog, nothing happens. I go completely blank!
Looking for answers this morning I turned to the Google gods with the inquiry “how to blog when I cant think of what to say”. It appears this is a common problem in the blogging world. Most of the advice though is about why blogging is a good thing with info about how regular blog postings can be advantageous to your online presence. Lots of ideas about how to promote your business and making your product buyer user friendly. That sort of thing, all good I’m sure, but this didnt help me with my problem.

I’m kind of thinking it might have something to do with personality types. As in I believe there are basically two types of people, “listeners” and “talkers” and I have always been a “listener” type. Not to say that one type is better than the other but the listener type really doesn’t get much practice in taking the lead position in conversation because the talker type so loves to own the stage. I’m also wondering if the listener types aren’t more introverted by nature as well. If my supposition is right that might explain why I have a blog block. It also follows along with a little bit of a phobia I have with being the center of attention. Truth time here: this is one of the reasons why I just cringe at the thought of being in an art show where I am the center of attention. but I certainly don’t have an issue with people looking at my art…I love that! I also have to admit I was the quintessential wall flower as a child…I wanted to be present just not visible!
I was painfully shy as a child and maybe on some level I never completely grew out of it. Maybe, unconsciously, blogging feels too much like giving a speech in front of a large crowd and I liken this act to having a root canal without pain meds! So that’s one idea…the other possibility for BLOG BLOCK could lie within the creative process itself. To prep myself for a day of painting I purposefully remove distractions, turning off the phone, and emptying my mind of all monkey chatter. I strive to enter into a space of quiet nothingness, letting intuitive directives guide my process. Words and thoughts are not part of how I paint. Because I view writing as an art I am probably trying to approach the act of writing with the same methodology I use as a painter…to get as empty as possible. Duh… probably not the best approach! How can one commit the act of writing without using the tools of thoughts and words! I need to ponder on this dilemma for a while. Maybe a writing class….hmmm.

National news: The winner for the annual BP Portrait Award 2011..( Yep that’s right…BP AS IN BRITISH PETROLEUM ).

The National Portrait Gallery in London holds a portrait painting competition every year. As it’s currently sponsored by BP (British Petroleum), the award is known as the BP Portrait Award.

I really love second place winner Louis Smith’s painting “Holly”. I’ve always admired the intensity and drama of human emotions displayed in paintings from the Baroque period.
