Thanet has been waiting a very long time for this but it has been announced that the Turner Contemporary Gallery will open to the public on 16th April 2011, just over 3 months away.

I’m excited about it finally opening considering the costs and effort involved in getting it to this stage, but only time will tell if this will be the success story that Margate needs to fuel its redvelopment.

There have been a lot of negative views regarding the project but now that it’s here it must be something that the people of Thanet and the local council get behind 100% and this cannot be done half-hearted.

OK we have quite a lot of old buildings in London but I was amazed that in Rome it seemed that every street has this amazing history and today I’m putting the focus on the Pantheon, a building dating to the 2nd Century BC.

The dome is the worlds largest unsupported concrete dome and if we were to try and build it today then it would probably only last a few years before falling down, so it’s amazing that this has remained here for nearly 2,000 years and is a credit to the Roman architects.  To find out more about the Pantheon see here.
