         <title>It's Monday, here's the 'Airwolf' intro</title>
         <description>Monday is the most painful reminder of Monday. That's how I think about it. 

With that being said, what's a better way of nixing those Monday morning blues than listening and watching to the intro of a great 1980s TV show. In this case "Airwolf." 

For those of you who might not remember, "Airwolf" followed the adventures of Stringfellow Hawke (Stringfellow?) and Dominic Santini. From then on, it gets really, really complicated. More complicated than I remember it being. Long story short, they fly a supersonic helicopter developed by an arm of the CIA.&lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

         <title>Gaggle of folks lift car to save man's life</title>
         <description>This video may not be funny and it isn't a hilarious meme like &lt;a href="http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/35350i/#by=ad"&gt;this one&lt;/a&gt;, but it is exciting and inspiring. 

According to the &lt;a href="http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/09/13/utah.motorcycle.crash/index.html"&gt;CNN story&lt;/a&gt;: "Police said the BMW pulled out of a parking lot and in front of the motorcyclist. Curtis said the motorcyclist tried to avoid the car, which resulted in him laying the motorcycle down.

"After crashing, gas spilled out of the motorcycle and ignited, engulfing both the motorcycle and the front end of the car in flames, Curtis said. The motorcyclist became lodged underneath the burning vehicle."

         <title>Holy expletive, it's a goth dance-off</title>
         <description>I can't really write a cogent treatist on this goth dance party, mostly because it’s a goth dance party. The construct in itself is enough to make my head explode.  Goth kids congregating together is about a razor’s edge away from being a cosplay convention.          <title>World Cup to Qatar, Russia:  Can we blame Morgan Freeman for this?</title>
         <description>As you probably know by now, &lt;a href="http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/nationworld/wire/sns-ap-soc-wcup-bids,0,5617040.story"&gt;we're not getting a World Cup&lt;/a&gt;.  Not in 2018.  Not in 2022.  Not ever again.*

This is terrible news, and, as with all disappointments, we could really use a scapegoat.

Morgan Freeman, one of our nation's most beloved actors and &lt;a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0428803/"&gt;penguin-documentary narrators&lt;/a&gt;, may be just that.

If you skip to the seven-minute mark, you'll see, during the United States World Cup bid presentation, Freeman skips a page in his speech and momentarily stops, potentially losing the audience he may have had eating out of his palm.

Sure, none of us could pull off a speech on that level and this is a ridiculous, unrealistic assumption, but who knows what that World Cup committee was thinking when they voted us out:

         <title>In memory of Leslie Nielsen:  The hilarious intro and ending to 'Police Squad'</title>
         <description>Like many of you, I was saddened to hear about &lt;a href="http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/broward/sns-ap-us-obit-leslie-nielsen,0,640864.story"&gt;the passing of actor Leslie Nielsen&lt;/a&gt;.  Predictably, I immediately started thinking about the great comedies he was involved in.  One personal favorite has been "Police Squad," the short-lived television series that led to the "Naked Gun" movies.  

This show has one of my favorite opening credits of all time, and definitely my favorite convention for showing the closing credits in a TV show.

The intro, for 50 seconds, had so many great visual jokes:  The fact that every character was involved in a shootout, the random guy on fire, the guest star being murdered within seconds of their introduction (the star and murder method changed every week), the announcer's title and the displayed title never matching and, of course, Abraham Lincoln:

         <title>Why are there so many Tommy Seebach video remixes?  (Or:  Why are there not more Tommy Seebach video remixes?!)</title>
         <description>When the Tommy Seebach Band produced a video for their song "Apache" (yes, it's the original &lt;a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWiqnPIxIdM" target="new" rel="nofollow"&gt;"jump on it"&lt;/a&gt; song), I highly doubt they knew they were molding the &lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego" target="new" rel="nofollow"&gt;building blocks&lt;/a&gt; for a music video for pretty much any song ever made by anyone.  

But, somehow, they did just that.  Watch the cheap, cheesy (in hindsight, at least) original below:

         <title>Today in history: The Gettysburg Address</title>
         <description>On Nov. 19, 1863, Abraham Lincoln gave one of the most famous speeches in American History, the Gettysburg Address. As described on the Library of Congress' website: "Abraham Lincoln was the second speaker on November 19, 1863, at the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery at Gettysburg. Lincoln was preceded on the podium by the famed orator Edward Everett, who spoke to the crowd for two hours. Lincoln followed with his now immortal Gettysburg Address. On November 20, Everett wrote to Lincoln: 'Permit me also to express my great admiration of the thoughts expressed by you, with such eloquent simplicity &amp; appropriateness, at the consecration of the Cemetery. I should be glad, if I could flatter myself that I came as near to the central idea of the occasion, in two hours, as you did in two minutes.'"

It's worthy to note how incredible it is that a two-minute speech, given 147 years ago, could have such an impact on American history.

Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting-place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground.          <title>World Toilet Day:  Squatting for a safer world</title>

Today is &lt;a href="http://www.worldtoilet.org/wtd/index.asp" target="new" rel="nofollow"&gt;World Toilet Day&lt;/a&gt;, folks. You know what that means!

What's that?  You don't?  Okay, I'll explain.

In short, World Toilet Day is a day dedicated to generating awareness of those who don't have access to those wonderful porcelain gods in all their glory (treated sewage, proper sanitation, etc.).  That's 2.6 billion people, &lt;a href="http://www.worldtoilet.org/wtd/understand.asp" target="new" rel="nofollow"&gt;according to the WTD site&lt;/a&gt;.

         <title>Bristol Palin + 'The Situation' in a safe sex commercial = magic</title>
         <description>Bristol Palin, daughter of former Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin, and Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, of "Jersey Shore" fame, are together in a new safe sex commercial. This PSA is nothing short of just strange. This tapestry of awkwardness is only exacerbated by "The Situation's" elegance in displaying the strip of condoms he apparently carries around on his person at all times. 

Despite the fact that Palin is one of the finalists on "Dancing With the Stars" and that Sorrentino was on the show earlier this season, there's no real reason why they would actually ever be together, much less throwing around nicknames for one another (B-Pain and Sitch, in this case).
