Pillar illusion

Everyone takes pictures of these pillars at Pioneers Park in Lincoln, NE. When there are landmarks like this I usually shy away from them. However, I'm not sure anyone's done this...at least with these pillars. It makes me think of looking through books of optical illusions when I was younger. Do you see the shape of another column in the "empty" space? Yeah, I did that.

This is a not so well know, but a very fascinating "water hole" near Cape Perpetua on the Oregon coast. Quite a dangerous place to shoot, especially during high tides!

Optical Art ist eine Stilrichtung der Malerei, die um 1960 aufkam. Mit Hilfe von geometrisch abstrakten Formmustern und Farbfiguren sollen im Auge des Betrachters Bewegungs- und Flimmereffekte hervorgerufen werden, die zu optischen Täuschungen führen können.
Wichtigste Vertreter der Op-Art waren Victor Vasarely, Bridget Riley, Jesús-Rafael Soto, Richard Anuszkiewicz, Julian Stanczak, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Julio Le Parc, Youri Messen-Jaschin, Agam und sind, in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Volker Bussmann, Wolfgang Ludwig, Almir Mavignier.

Op art, also known as optical art, is used to describe some paintings and other works of art which use optical illusions. Op art is also referred to as geometric abstraction and hard-edge abstraction, although the preferred term for it is perceptual abstraction. The term "Op" bears resemblance to the other popular movement of the 1960s, Pop Art though one can be certain such monikers were invoked for their catchiness and not for any stylistic similarities.
"Optical Art is a method of painting concerning the interaction between illusion and picture plane, between understanding and seeing."[1] Op art works are abstract, with many of the better known pieces made in only black and white. When the viewer looks at them, the impression is given of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibration, patterns, or alternatively, of swelling or warping.

The Chicago Fire Department, also known as the CFD, is the principal fire suppression, prevention, and rescue agency of Chicago, Illinois, under the jurisdiction of the mayor of Chicago. The Chicago Fire Department is the largest fire department in the Midwestern United States and is one of the nation's largest departments after the New York City Fire Department, Los Angeles Fire Department, and the Los Angeles County Fire Departments which all have more stations than Chicago. It is also one of the oldest major organized fire departments in the nation. Concurrently, some firefighters serve as paramedics with the Chicago Emergency Medical System. The Chicago Fire Department cooperated with film director, Ron Howard on making the 1991 film, Backdraft starring Kurt Russell, William Baldwin and Robert De Niro. That film was inspired by firefighter turned writer, Gregory Widen, who made a cameo appearance in the film.
The Chicago Fire Department is led by the Commissioner, who is currently Robert Hoff . The Commissioner is appointed by the mayor. He is assisted by the First Deputy Commissioner, who oversees the department's bureaus. There are five bureaus under the First Deputy Commissioner: Administrative Services, Fire Prevention, Operations, Support Services, and Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Services.
Until December 2006 Chicago firefighters donned the famous three-quarter boots and jacket, instead of the now generally accepted bunker gear worn by many departments, especially those of the suburbs. An example of the boots and jacket can be seen in the photo below.
A unique feature on the apparatus of the CFD is the green emergency light that is typically found on the right front of the apparatus, in addition to the red light on the left front. This tradition dates back to the 1930s when a fire commissioner, formerly in the Navy, adopted the port and starboard naval light scheme for all apparatus.
