Hikasa Youko, a fairly new seiyuu with a not-so-long list of shows she has voiced in, her most notable role is as the voice of Akiyama Mio in the K-ON series. She is also an excellent singer, just listen to her K-ON character songs or any songs she has sung. She has a voice that can be easily recognised, like Kugimiya Rie, Noto Mamiko and Itou Shizuka, just to list a few.

Rising to prominence in the recent seasons of anime, she has gotten more and more leading roles, e.g. Akiyama Mio in K-ON, Kumashiro Maya in Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin, Amakusa Shino in Seitokai Yakuindomo. Compared to her past roles of side characters.

For the Summer Anime Season line-up, she voices 3 leading roles. Namely Akiyama Mio in K-ON, Kumashiro Maya in Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin and Amakusa Shino in Seitokai Yakuindomo. That’s some achievement.

Kumashiro Maya

Ranging from Akiyama Mio — a shy girl, to Kumashiro Maya — Principal of a huge Academy/school who also deals with the occult and is trying to save the world, and Amakusa Shino — President of the Student Council, serious and diligent, and talented in most subjects, she is almost always thinking of perverted things. That’s a whole range of different personalities being portrayed. That goes to show how versatile Hikasa Youko can be.

Hmm, it seems I might be watching 14(!) series this coming season. Well, HOLIDAYS for me so, time much.

So, what are you gonna watch?

Natsu Matsuri – 夏まつり – is held yearly at the Japanese Primary School (Changi) Campus, and this year is the first time I’ve been to such a festival.

There are a wide variety of stalls at the Natsu Matsuri this year. Ranging from food & beverage stalls, games stalls, accessory stalls and even stalls selling clothes. There were bins everywhere to ensure that people don’t little and have a place to throw their unwanted stuff after eating/drinking. Every inch of area is put to good use.

There were people/volunteers around to guide and help the visitors.

There were also a couple of performances at the main stage area before the Bon-odori.

There were loads of people when the Bon-odori started. Everyone is all excited and the atmosphere is all energetic.

Overall a very very well-planned and executed festival, with something for everyone to take part in. All the festival-goers were all very lively and energetic even though it’s at night and a weekend too. This experience I had at Natsu Matsuri is a very epic one, something you don’t get to see everyday or that often.

At the end of the festival, the volunteers were all busy clearing litter around the area and also the bins. They did their jobs enthusiastically too. Kudos to them.

Cosfest IX, the 9th year this event has been held just ended about a week ago. Held at Downtown East on the 3rd and 4th July, it’s the first time I’ve attended Cosfest. Having attend both days of Cosfest, I’ve noticed that the crowd in Day 1 is way less than that in Day 2. The venue was packed with people on Day 2, people had to squeeze in and out of the tent area.

There were performances on the stage throughout both days, there was something to do every second of the time. There were booths circling the event area offering artworks and stuff, I didn’t really go round the booths to see what they have to offer though.
