I just hope they do not have the diminishing returns during the audition rounds like they did last year - when I got tired of the gimmick after three (3) episodes.

Also, this show has a huge pool of professional singers who have flirted with success one way or another. So, it makes for a totally different level of entertainment. However, where are the not so pretty/handsome contestants? Yes, The Voice is NOT about looks, but everyone "casted" so far have little to no problems in the looks department and the few who might be considered on the lower end, didn't get picked. Haha.

Anyway, let's start..

The Line
American Girl
TEAM CHRISTINA

Didn't they learn anything from the duo last season? Haha. To be fair, this country duo is a lot better in terms of voice, dynamics, harmonies and overall chemistry compared to Elenowen of last season. Individually, their voices are pretty solid. I'm just not sure if a duo can actually win this whole thing. 6/10

Jamar Rogers
Seven Nation Army
TEAM CEE LO

Look, it's Danny Gokey's buddy who also auditioned for American Idol Season 8. Haha. I didn't think he was anything special three years ago, but his voice improved tremendously. I hate to admit it, but his audition was fantastic. Nice raspy tone, good range and he's actually pretty engaging. He also picked a great song that highlighted the strengths in his voice. As for his back story, let's not get into that. Haha. 8/10

Gwen Sebastian
Stay
TEAM BLAKE

At first, I didn't really like her tone, but she got me to enjoy the audition nonetheless. I like her country inflections and she seemed very genuine. I guess, Blake is a good fit for her. 6/10

Kim Yarborough
Tell Me Something Good
TEAM ADAM

Of course, she sang Chaka Khan. Of course! Haha. To be honest, I wasn't really impressed with her audition. I mean, do not mess with the Chaka if you're not going to rock it and yes, Kim just came off like a mediocre impersonator. She didn't bring anything new to the song and everything was just way overdone. Sorry. 5/10

Angie Johnson
Heartbreaker
TEAM CEE LO

True, she was off pitch a couple of times and maybe the song was too big for her range, but she worked it out and I kind of enjoyed that. Plus, with a military background, her vocals weren't too shabby. As for you Cee Lo, don't wear those glasses, it makes your hands look even smaller - if that's possible. Lol. 6/10

Lindsey Paveo
Say Ahh
TEAM CHRISTINA

It's pretty impressive how she changed that song to fit her style. I thought that was a smart move and it showed how knowledgeable she is about music. She was high on the quirky meter and that I guess would appeal to the same people that liked Lana Del Rey. I just don't think Christina has an idea of what to do with that kind of voice. We'll see. 8/10

Jermaine Paul
Complicated
TEAM BLAKE

His version of this Avril Lavinge song was a little overwrought and I wasn't really sure if I like his shrill tone. The voice was there.. but then he started talking and he annoyed me! Really? Just be glad somebody turned around for you! You weren't ALL THAT! Blech! 3/10

Angel Taylor
Someone Like You
TEAM ADAM

I wonder if Angel's family was this excited when she was signed to a major label contract just two years ago, or when VH1 highlighted her for a year. Haha. Yes, she's no Adele. But her raspy vice and style appealed to me. If only she could relax a bit more and fix his affected phrasing, she'd be fine. 7/10

Smash Season 1: Episode Downloads

Yes, just like every other show I cover in this blog - Glee, American Idol and The Voice - I've decided to do the same thing with this new NBC musical-drama series, Smash, which stars American Idol Season 5 Runner-up, Katharine McPhee.
I admit, their first season was quite refreshing - and by some standards relatively successful - with a good set of contestants last year and a panel that's ultimately better than the X Factor judges. Haha.

So, aside from Christina Aguilera's annoying silliness and the fact that Adam repeatedly bragged about how "he won" the show last year - and I though it was Javier Colon - this was actually a fun episode. Most of the people featured can actually sing and the nervous guy who did not get picked wasn't THAT bad. So yes, the level of talent on this show is very strong.

However, these contestants aren't amateurs anymore. Heck, most of them are professionals already and not just people off the street. How I wish the show would be more upfront about how most of the auditioners have had record deals in the past and a lot of them have solid careers, even if they never became stars. And that the blind auditions really aren't blind, since they have been hand picked, for the most part. You know what I mean?

Anyway, let's start..

Raelynn
Hell On Heels
TEAM BLAKE

Yes, the girl can definitely sing, but there's something about her that's kind of forgettable. She started out obviously nervous - her goaty vibrato in the first verse gave it away - and although she somehow pulled it off towards the end, I just don't think it was enough to make a big impression. Unless the show is trying for a Lauren Alaina, I don't see Raelynn going that far. 6/10

Jesse Campbell
A Song For You
TEAM CHRISTINA

Not going to lie, this audition was quite good. Lovely tone. Good vocal control. Decent stage presence. However, I felt like he's just a generic Javier Colon (The Voice Season 1 Winner) with all those unnecessary vocal runs. I don't question his talent, but when he did too many of those liberties, his tone suddenly turned shrill. But we'll see. 8/10

Juliette Simms
Oh Darling
TEAM CEE LO

I love the grit in her voice, but her lower register sounded very weak and I think that will be her downfall. I admit, she's kind of interesting - as any other "rocker" chick joining a reality singing competition - and may give the show a little diversity, which is good. I just hope she'll work on the ungravelly part of her voice. Just saying. 7/10

Chris Mann
Because We Believe
TEAM CHRISTINA

Wow. An ex-Glee Warbler is in the house! Haha. Chris is definitely talented, but he's probably not pop-relevant enough to last. Sure, Josh Groban or even Susan Boyle created amazing careers out of their genre, but that's like very rare. That said, what do I know right? Haha. 6/10

Tony Lucca
Trouble
TEAM ADAM

The former Mousketeer and a relatively famous indie artist who was featured on TV shows such as Brothers & Sisters, Shark, Felicity and even did the Devil Town song for Friday Night Lights. I guess the judges/mentors aren't indie rock fans? Haha. To be fair though, I immensely enjoyed his audition. I thought he brought a more pleasant and upbeat energy to the song and he's got a certain appeal that would work on a certain group - yet powerful - viewers (or voters!) Haha. 9/10

Glee Music 3: Heart

Last week, the songs were a tad underwhelming. Good thing, Glee somehow recovered this week with a pretty solid set of songs for their Valentine episode, Heart. I have to say though, Glee is always too much! We had our "Too much Rachel" time in Season 1 until the beginning of Season 2. Then, we moved to the "Too much Blaine" in halfway to Season 2 and Season 3 - Santana did share the spotlight for a few episodes. Now, welcome to the "Too much Mercedes" era. Haha.

Cherish/Cherish

I admit, this mash-up didn't quite work for me at first, but the nice dynamics between Quinn and Mercedes make the song a little dramatic - a good thing. Quinn sounds lovely and this subtler side of Mercedes' voice is just beautiful. Surprisingly good! 8/10

DOWNLOAD

Home

I'm IN LOVE with this song, you people have no idea! Haha. So yes, I figured that if Damian ruins this song, I'll probably fly to America and ring his neck. But, to my surprise, his version is actually quite good. It still has that heart-wrenching feeling to it and the vocals are pretty clean. Very nice. 7/10

DOWNLOAD

I Will Always Love You

A more subtle and sweet rendition to the song that may not be as powerful as Whitney Houston's version, but vocally quite good. Her key change is superb and the way she hits those high notes are impressively clean. That being said, I'm done with Mercedes' ballads. I miss the days of Hate On Me and Bust Your Windows. To me, her uptempo covers are WAY more impressive. 7/10

DOWNLOAD

Let Me Love You

Not a fan of Artie's voice - not even his character - but this is outstanding! He sounds wonderful in this song. I'm not sure why they had to change the tempo of the song - way too fast, I think - but this song does things to me and Artie's version is no different. Haha. 9/10

DOWNLOAD

L-O-V-E

Quite adorable! Mike Chang sounds really good on this! So much improvement! Tina, on the other hand, proves once again how great and how technical of a singer she is. GIVE HER MORE SONGS!! Good. Cute. Nice. 7/10

DOWNLOAD

Love Shack

Great to see just a silly, fun song for this episode, which also sounds really good. True, their version is a little lightweight compared to the original, but it still has that energy that's infectious. I just can't wait for the performance! Oh, and Kurt's TIN ROOF.. RUSTED is just too funny to ignore! 8/10

DOWNLOAD

Stereo Hearts

This quartet is very interesting. Quinn and Sam proved that they have some palpable vocal chemistry in Season 2 and the same thing can also be said with Sam and Mercedes. I think Sam's rapping is shockingly great - I didn't expect that - and Samuel, though a little generic, gives the rendition a different dynamics. Plus, Quinn's softness compliments Mercedes' power. Awesome. 8/10

DOWNLOAD

You're The Top

Not my up of tea. Sorry. 6/10

DOWNLOAD

*For those asking, I can't upload a different file with all the songs in it just because I don't have time to do it and upload it - my internet connections been acting up lately. So, if it's too much of an effort for you to download this one by one, look for a site that has everything in one file. I don't want to get any feedback about "getting annoyed" by this development. I'm doing everyone a favor already, and I don't understand the whining I get. :( Thank you.

Smash Music: Pilot

I'm not sure if I'll be posting this weekly just because I still don't have a constant contributor/source of songs from this show unlike Glee. I'll do my best to somehow find a way on how to work around this, but for the meantime enjoy the Pilot Episode Music.

Katharine McPhee just didn't go all out especially towards the end and that's what I appreciate about this version. Not so much of the vocal theatrics, but the feeling. 8/10

DOWNLOAD

National Pastime

This song has really grown on me. I enjoy that there's character to this tune and it's undeniably Marilyn Monroe, thanks to Megan Hilty's solid vocal performance.7/10

DOWNLOAD

Let Me Be Your Star

Wow. This song blew me away. Seriously. Both Katharine and Megan gave brilliant vocals. The orchestration was outstanding, which sounds every bit Broadway. Katharine McPhee has a modern R&B almost pop flair in her phrasing, but that somehow worked in this song. Amazing. 10/10

DOWNLOAD

Glee Season 3: The Spanish Teacher Episode Review

The Spanish Teacher
Season 3, Episode 12

This episode was all kinds of filler, but because I came into this episode with EXTREMELY low expectations - I didn't really care much about Ricky Martin and I don't understand Spanish - I found the episode somewhat entertaining. It's not great and possibly nowhere near my favorite, but it was still better than some of the episodes from Season 2.

THE GOOD:

- Surprisingly, I found Nene Leakes' character kind of refreshing. Yes, she's basically playing with her own swag, but that attitude kind of worked for her character. Plus, that smackdown with Sue was pretty epic!

- Not into the whole adult storyline, but this one had a nice balance between drama and comedy. Nice!

- Ricky Martin hasn't lost any of his appeal. I was impressed with his acting skills and his hair. Haha. Should Glee give him another episode to appear? I'm not sure, but he pretty much nailed his guest appearance with this episode.

- I did love Emma's pamphlets. I thought ALL of them are pretty hilarious - if a bit offensive at times. Oh, and I love how she stuck by them and how Coach Bieste stood up for Emma. The dynamics was pretty nice.

- Sue Sylvester was just endearing in this episode for some odd reason. Her storyline of wanting to have a baby was hysterical especially everyone's reaction to the idea. Yes, I can't help myself to feel sorry for her sometimes - imagine how lonely she must be! - but her new "character" is working a little better now because of two things - her relationship with Becky and Nene Leakes. Haha.

- I was glad that Kurt's advice was towards Finn - about the need to figure out who he really is. So far, what everyone has been telling Rachel is that marriage is going to hold her back. Well, it' nice for Kurt to actually got to the real reason why Finn made the decision he did. That conversation was actually pretty great.

- Watching Santana stick it - and rightly so - to Will Schuester was probably the BEST part about this episode. Hey, her speech - no matter how hurtful - was justified. Santana, Marry me already!

THE BAD:

- A couple of things: How could Will possibly get hired as a Spanish teacher and maintain his job for years if he didn't understand Spanish? How can he suddenly transfer to a history teacher position? Why did Figgins even consider him for tenure - along with Sue - if he was doubting their abilities as teachers? Dumb.

- Will Schuester's character is just getting sadder and sadder. I don't know, but I'm starting to see parallels between him and Finn. It bothered me that he didn't care that he was totally unqualified for his job teaching Spanish. Plus, how he treated Emma and her precious little pamphlets were kind of annoying.

- Ok. The Sam-Mercedes storyline is now becoming a little pointless. Why is Mercedes still with Shane? Is she incapable of breaking up with someone? Really?

- Not a fan of most of the performances. Just saying.

THE MUSIC:

LA CUCARACHA was eh. Pretty funny, but I just can't get into the whole Will Schuester storyline. Sorry.

SEXY AND I KNOW IT was fun and awesomely performed by Ricky Martin himself. The giddy enthusiasm made the performance more entertaining than usual.

DANG DIGGY DIGGY. Yes, it was just the Cheerios dancing, but the routine was hilarious! Haha. And the smack down after that was delicious! Nene Leakes you rock!

DON'T WANNA LOSE YOU was vocally great, but I just got bored with it. Hmm. A little dynamics on the editing or something would've helped this to be a total snoozefest.

BAMBOLEO / HERO. Pointy shoes notwithstanding, I thought this was a good mash up. Sam sounded terrific and the choreography was "interesting". That is all.

LA ISLA BONITA. Wow. Those lasers! Haha. I'm more and more impressed with Santana - if that's even remotely possible with all her awesomeness. Riveting. Sexy. Lasers. Haha. Enough said.

A LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION. Thank God, this performance was meant to be awful! But still, I wanted to punch Will for ruining this precious Elvis classic and for making Brittany and Mike look like idiots. *pukes*

Glee Music 3: The Spanish Teacher

I know. I know. This post is a tad too late, but at least I tried to upload the song before the actual episode airs. Oh, and the song selection this week is kind of 'meh' at best. I mean, the music is doing nothing to get me excited for an episode. I honestly don't expecting any of the songs in this episode to sell well, but what do I know? Haha. Be the judge?

A Little Less Conversation

Wow. What did they just do with this Elvis classic? I don't usually say this towards Glee's covers, but they just butchered this song. Seriously. This is absolutely unforgivable. Not a happy camper over here. 2/10

DOWNLOAD

Bamboleo/Hero

On paper, this should've been a hot mess, but I think they made it work. It's an interesting arrangement and Sam has never sounded this good. Plus, he's great in singing the Spanish part. The Hero part made me wish he did the whole song though. 7/10

DOWNLOAD

Don't Wanna Lose You

It's kind of boring, but there's no doubt that Mercedes sounds really good on this. Her Spanish doesn't feel cringe worthy as well. Somehow, this reminds me of her other song Don't Make Me Over. 6/10

DOWNLOAD

La Isla Bonita

This is the best one of the episode, but it doesn't have much competition to begin with so whatever. Haha. The production is a little too heavy handed drowning both Santana and Ricky Martin's voices - and it's a little too fast for my liking - but it's the most enjoyable despite the flaws. 8/10

DOWNLOAD

At least, the actual performance is fun and that actually makes this quite enjoyable. Enough said. 7/10

DOWNLOAD

Movie Review: Chronicle

DAM
[The DAM Nation]
Chronicle was a pleasant surprise. The story in itself was nothing terribly new or original, but it was incredibly compelling that it seemed fresh relative to its contemporaries. The execution was utterly realistic, the writing was witty and there's a delightful balance of humor, drama and suspense. Plus, there's a good amount of character development, which was shocking, and the three unknown main actors pulled off their roles quite impressively. Not the best film I've seen EVER, but what it sets out to achieve, it does brilliantly. 8.5/10

KITTY AYA
The superhero genre has been explored in so many ways in the last decade that there’s nothing really new in this movie. The found footage approach was well-played considering the main character has telekinesis, but also brought lots of plot holes and unsolved endings. I had fun watching it, and the motion-tracking was superb but be warned, in the tradition of The Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity (aside from halfway to it you'll get a bit bored), the movie ends in... 10/10

KITTY AYA
Just as good as the Swedish version, yet personally, I like this one a little better. Maybe because of Fincher's work, which reminds me of "Se7en". Some parts are really slow, but then the story builds-up and takes your breathe away. Just like in the book. Rooney Mara as Lisbeth steals the whole movie and Reznor's music is just awesome. Well worth watching. 9/10
This Pepsi commercial was part of the Superbowl Ad line up, which is also one of Melanie's prizes.

Well, there's no denying that Melanie can really sing, but somehow she just doesn't have, ironically, the X Factor. Plus, I actually found her voice surprisingly shrill on the actual song, but I admit, I could see it getting some club play. Anyway, enjoy!
Oh, and this will be competing directly against American Idol. Is there really room for two singing competitions?

Back to the ad, I think this is executed brilliantly. Not really a big fan of the show - I'm an American Idol loyalist and the first season was just all about the judges - but damn I love that commercial. I, however, think that the name of the show should be "The Battle of the Judges" to find a voice. Now, that's a more accurate promo! Haha. Enjoy!

I actually like this video. It combines the Adam of For Your Entertainment and the Adam of Whataya Want From Me. It's beautifully conceptualized and well-executed. Plus, the production and cinematography are fantastic. Enjoy!

No, this wasn't the best episode of the series, but this Michael Jackson tribute wasn't really bad. The narrative was a little thin and some of them were actually a bit disjointed, but it was still a very enjoyable episode. Plus, the musical numbers were seriously great. If it weren't for these performances, this whole episode would suck!

THE GOOD:

- I said this a couple of times and I'll say it again, Burt is the best father EVER and this whole Burt and Kurt scene just proved that they are indeed the best TV parent-son ever.

- There's a quiet chemistry between Rachel and Kurt that I love. Really hate to see it end this year for them.. or maybe not?

- So, Quinn turned from the craziest person on the planet to the "sanest" in the course of, what, four episodes? Haha. I'm all for that though. I thought her closing story was well executed and more poignant than I expected. Her last line just pierced me straight to the heart, "You can't change you past, but you can let go and change your future". It's sad though that this seemed like Quinn's farewell to Glee. Oh no.

- Artie's speech, though came out-of-nowhere, actually made sense. It's a lame context for his performance of Scream, but I didn't mind as he delivered his lines with so much emotions that I somehow wanted to clap after that. Haha.

- Hats off to Sebastian! What a villain! Haha. He's actually more evil than a dozen of Sue Sylvesters. Just saying.

- Whew! Sebastian and Santana have a shockingly good chemistry - or was it interaction? Oh, and Santana was awesome. Don't anyone try to argue with me on that point! Haha.

THE BAD:

- Kurt was such a Disney hero character. Blech! Seriously. How was it a wrong thing to turn someone in for physically hurting someone else? Someone was physically assaulted with a weapon, hospitalized, requiring surgery - but they're not doing anything about it? What, because it "wouldn't be fair" to compete against the Warblers without some sociopathic criminal on the team? Are you kidding me? That's not a harmless little prank. Turning Sebastian in for putting rock salt in a slushee (sp?) is not sinking to his level, it's just how things should really be. Sebastian committed a crime, and he needs to be punished for it.

- As for you Will Schuester, you're a teacher! What have you taught the kids? Do not go to the police when someone physically attack you. Shut them down in your own way! Well, I think Sebastian should kill someone first no? Foolish.

- Rachel saying yes to Finn's proposal annoyed me! I didn't understand the despair. She didn't know about NYADA until the start of this school year, and she's had Broadway plans since she was a fetus. She should have had back-up schools. Plenty of them. And even if she doesn't go to college at all, she can still pursue her stardom dreams. Most performers don't even go to college - not that I'm saying that it's ok. But both of them agreed to get married just because they think it's the only thing good going on for them, and yes, that's a BAD reason to even go there! Ugh.

- The missing song (Warbler's I Want You Back) ruined the continuity of the story. The scenes before and after really created a bit of disconnect about the Bad performance. It just made it seem really out of nowhere. Haha.

- Anybody else wondering where the hell Sugar was? HAHA.

THE MUSIC:

WANNA BE STARTIN' SOMETHIN' was pretty rad. Yes, it's not their best performance ever and it actually left a lot of good moments "unseized", but I enjoyed it. Blaine sounded incredibly good and his tone worked well with the song. Plus, the production was awesome complete with those Michael Jackson's iconic costumes.

BAD. The editing was a little messy, but that choreography was pretty nifty. Seriously. I can't believe New Directions pulled off something as complicated as that. Oh, and when Santana started to sing the chorus with those stylish moves from both groups.. GOOSEBUMPS!

SCREAM. Artie and Mike Chang are probably my last favorite characters on Glee, but I thought this performance was actually good. Of course, the dancing was sensational. But Mike Chang being in Artie's "dream land" was a too random. Haha.

NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE. It's official, I love myself some Quinn Fabray. This solo was stunning! I just can't even.. Yes, she have often taken criticism about her vocals, but I thought she acquitted herself very well with this number. I hope this is not the end of Quinn. Really!

HUMAN NATURE was too random for the whole storyline of the episode, but this was cute and that's all I have to say about that. Haha.

BEN. The combination of this "rat song" and Blaine's pirate patch was just hysterical. BUT NO!

SMOOTH CRIMINAL. Sensational. Everything was AMAZING from the arrangement to the incredibly palpable chemistry between these two characters and even the cello players. Dare I say, one of Glee's finest! Enough said.

I JUST CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU. I thought both Rachel and Finn were effective in expressing the emotion of the song. I could see Rachel throw her caution to the wind in the course of this heartfelt expression of overwhelming feeling. I thought it worked beautifully for both of the characters in terms of development. Besides, this is like one of my favorite Michael Jackson songs.

BLACK AND WHITE was a good old Glee fun performance, but if I'm being honest, the face morphing creeps me out EVERYTIME! Argh.

Movie Review: Haywire

SANRIEL
[Another Sani Day]
We got this to kickstart our year in film - and no one should complain. During this time when all we get are residuals of sappy Oscar films, we get this new Soderbergh film. People have tremendous concern about its assassin plot - but who cares about the plot? Plot is never relevant anyway. The filmmaking in this film is what stands out. It means serious business. This is how you film your action scenes - static, raw, without those prerequisite shitty epic scoring. I found myself little distracted at times by some of the jazzy scoring but that's nothing but a minor issue. That, and Gina Carano tends to be awkward at times, but she's got some serious thighs so who'd notice that. Soderbergh's last film, Contagion, pretty and beautifully shot. But this new one is really really REALLY well-shot and made great use of digital photography. 2012 off to a good start 7.5/10

KOAXE
[Krazy Koaxe]
Acting: Star of the films acting seems very forced. Story: The way the story unfolds is where the film begins to unravel itself. 2/3 of the film is being told like a story to one of the characters, which I never have a problem with. I do have a problem when the character that is being told the story has NOTHING to do with the rest of the film. Choreography: A lot of the fighting scenes were extremely fake. Score: Amazing, the best thing about this movie. In all, Haywire is just ok. 4.5/10

DAM
[The DAM Nation]
Sure, Haywire had that usual story of betrayal and revenge, but it somehow didn't matter as this one had some serious spunk. It's brutal. It's mean. It's a no nonsense, kick the crap out of everyone who gets in your way action film. Plus, there's Gina Carano who played the lead role with great authenticity. I mean, when I saw her throw some punches and kicks, I really felt bad for that poor sap on the receiving end. She may lack a certain degree of emotional depth in some of her scenes, but for her first featured film, this was quite impressive. Oh, and the lack of scoring especially during the fight scenes were incredibly refreshing. If I have one gripe about the film, it would have to be the uneven pacing as some parts became a little dragging and dull for my liking. Nonetheless, this was NOT a bad film. 7/10
*2012 DAM NATION movie reviews will be a consolidation of capsule reviews from people who signed up before the year started.

DAM

[The DAM Nation]

Take a slightly interesting premise, add competent actors, and some decent special effects and you get The Darkest Hour. I admit, the first half was quite intriguing, but as the movie progressed, everything just became silly - even dumb. No character development. Amateur script. Annoying conclusion. The only good thing I got about it was the fact that there were a couple of character fatality twists that's quite unexpected - though all of them were seriously disposable. Oh, and I appreciated the fact that they had Moscow as the setting instead of the trite New York City or Los Angeles. 5/10

BENJ

Intriguing and engrossing plot that continues to deliver twists and turns, whether you are at the beginning, middle and end. Some characters lack a quality in the acting normal,y required for these sort of movies and with this affects the pacing of the movie. Overall a movie worth seeing. But ditch the 3D if you can. 7/10

HOSHIZAOLDYECK

Completely lacks of story telling and character building. I don't even care who's gonna die next and the relationship is not well-built. The alien form is cool by the way, but only until they reveal their true true form, not terrifying at all. But I do like the scenery, it is refreshing to see another part of the world getting invaded. 2.5/10

Look at this sensational cover of Smooth Criminal by Santana and Sebastian!! Everything was AMAZING from the arrangement to the incredibly palpable chemistry between these two characters and even the cello players. Dare I say, one of Glee's finest!

I'm not a big fan of tribute episodes - Madonna and Britney episodes were a bit of a mess - but I'm strangely excited for this one. This performance is actually good. The music, the hallway strut, plus the library needs a serious shake up since Can't Touch This and this is just the ticket. Haha. Oh, and the choreography at the beginning and later on stage was pretty entertaining to watch. Enjoy!

I'm just not sure how they will fit in these 10 songs in one episode. Haha. Let's see. Enjoy!

Bad

Yes, there's too much going on with the song, but that layering actually gives the song enough spunk to stand out. Plus, I think Santana, Artie, Sebastian and Blaine killed the vocals. 8/10

DOWNLOAD

Ben

Hmm. NEVER liked this song and I don't think the show did anything to appreciate it, but their version sounds decent if a little dull. Oh, and Finn sounds weird on this one. I don't know. 5/10

DOWNLOAD

Black Or White

Fun song. Great voices. Possibly one of the best New Directions numbers we've gotten this season - of course, based from this recording alone. I like that there are little bits for most of the performers. I'm looking forward to see how it fits into the show. 9/10

DOWNLOAD

Human Nature

Again, another solid duet from Mercedes and Sam. I love the slow bongo type of beat in the song, and the overall arrangement is quite nice. It's much "sweeter" compared to Michael Jackson's original and this well sung. It's pretty impressive if you ask me. 8/10

DOWNLOAD

I Just Can't Stop Loving You

Cheese-tastic!! Say what you want, but I'm really digging the cheese in this song. Not my favorite Michael Jackson song, but both Rachel and Finn sold this song to me. Also, Finn is obviously not the best singer in the bunch, but I like what he did with this. 8/10

DOWNLOAD

I Want You Back

First few seconds of the song and I'm hooked. I wouldn't say that Sebastian is a strong vocalist, but he pulls this song off quite nicely. I like the arrangement and there's a fun spirit to it. 8/10

DOWNLOAD

Never Can Say Goodbye

Finally! A Quinn solo! Nice vocal for a nice song. Sure, there's nothing groundbreaking about this cover, but it's soothing and quite pleasant. I think this is another one that might come off better with the context of the show. 7/10

DOWNLOAD

Scream

It's full of energy and doesn't sound bland like so many Glee covers, but I'm just not that big of a fan of the song. I don't know. 7/10

DOWNLOAD

Smooth Criminal

Can I say EPIC? Seriously. The cellos. Santana. Sebastian. Wow. My favorite Glee songs are when they twist the original version and make it sound fresh and with the addition of cellos in this rendition makes it a cut above the rest of their Michael covers! The arrangement is sensational, the vocals are flawless and there's character in both voices. LOVE IT! 10/10

DOWNLOAD

Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'

Hmm. Part of me likes it and then part of me doesn't. It feels like there's something missing but can't really put my finger on it. I must say though that Blaine sounds fantastic and Glee's cover is somewhat more punchy than the original one. 8/10

DOWNLOAD

American Idol 11: Galveston Auditions

Everything about this episode was pure sameness - if there's even a word. Haha. Rehashes of the same old joke auditions, rehashes of the same old sob stories, rehashes of the same old types of contestants. Can we fast forward to Hollywood Week already? Good thing, there were a couple of contenders in this episode's crop of singers. And that's the only thing I'm holding on right now.

If one thing can come out of this disaster of an audition season, though, is that maybe they'll do some enormous revamp of how they'll handle auditions episode next year. Cutting back on the boring and bad ones is a start, but maybe they should just cut back on the number of audition episodes, period. We'll see..

Here's my review on the people who got featured on today's episode:

DISCLAIMER: Just an opinion based on the auditions. It may change as the season progresses so haters back off. Haha.

Skylar Laine
Not a fan of this girl, but I must admit that there's something striking about her voice. She even sounded like Miranda Lambert - just not as good yet. But yeah, she could lock up a lot of the Lauren Alaina fans with that country sound. 7.5/10

Baylie Brown
.. and she's back! I remember her audition back in Season 6 (Jordin Sparks) and I was really expecting her to go far, but alas, she got eliminated during Hollywood Week group rounds where she was paired up with the infamous Antonella Barba. Haha. Yes, nothing really makes her stand out versus all the other pop country blondes the show has seen, but she has a strong vocal pipes with incredible charisma and spunk. Plus, she just killed her Season 6 audition. 8.5/10

Kristine Osorio
Her audition sounded a little shouty, especially when she powered through those high notes, but I love her soulful tone and there's character to her voice. I'd like to see more from her. 7.5/10

Linda Williams
Seriously? Those girls Jennifer liked prior to Linda were good! Linda, on the other hand, either overdid it or was really just terrible. What was Steven and Randy smoking? 4/10

Cortez Shaw
Personally, I didn't like his take on Adele's Someone Like You just because the tempo change was a little strange for my liking, but he can sing if not a little generic. That is all. 7/10

Ramiro Garcia
Aside from his backstory, there's nothing remotely remarkable about this guy. He has a decent voice and could actually be a great church singer, but I don't see anything beyond that. Sue me. 7/10

American Idol 11: Aspen Auditions

Wow. Just when I thought San Diego was boring, this one was even worse! I mean, I'm all for a kindler and gentler Idol, but give me some really good voices - not just marginal singers! Love the beautiful sights n the audition shows, but this just didn't excite me.

They need to hurry up and get to Hollywood week, and hopefully that will bring some awe inspiring performances, and interesting people who can also sing. Of course, I'm still watching, but I'm hoping things will get better with the live shows, when we assume the cream will rise to the top.

Episode Summary: Judges overpraise people who won't make it very far in Hollywood. HAHA.

Here's my review on the people who got featured on today's episode:

DISCLAIMER: Just an opinion based on the auditions. It may change as the season progresses so haters back off. Haha.

Jenni Schick
I wasn't really sure if I liked her audition. Her vocals were fine, but it somehow was too loud for my taste with no finesse whatsoever. Plus, her personality kind of grates. Haha. 6/10

Curtis Gray
Average singer at best. Sorry. 5/10

Richie Law
A less charming and attractive Scotty McCreery? Umm, no thanks! 5/10

Devan Jones
Impressive vocal control. Nice tone. Good voice. I want to hear more!! 7.5/10

Mathenee Trego
Gawd! You need to calm down! Haha. His voice is undeniably strong if a bit affected and verging on annoying. 7/10

Haley Smith
Wow. Very interesting audition. I enjoyed the rawness of her vocals, her unique tone and kind of offbeat - in a good way - phrasing. She sang that Chaka Khan ditty like I've never heard before. 7.5/10

Shelby Tweten
She's probably the best one in Aspen, but that's not saying much. Although I must admit that she actually reminded me of Lauren Alaina in terms of tone and phrasing - and yes, that's not something to sneeze at. Shelby's a little folksier though, which is quite interesting. 8/10

Jairon Jackson
Eh. He was decent and his original song wasn't bad at all, but that vibrato annoyed me! If he'd be able to dial it down a notch, talk to me again. Haha. 7/10

Angie Zeiderman
Oddly fascinating! Haha. Her first song was completely odd but entertaining. It was too over the top that I was trying to figure out if she was a joke contestant or not. But when she sang Blue Bayou, she was actually pretty good. I didn't think she'd hit those high notes, but her voice was surprisingly solid. 7.5/10

American Idol Season 11: San Diego Auditions

Was this episode a total waste of time? Not sure. I must say though that the vibe of this episode was so good, I was actually laughing at the atmosphere and not at the joke contestants, which was a pleasant change. Heck, some of Steven Tyler's remarks were golden! "I can't wait to see people sing the same Adele song for 6 f*kin' hours" Haha.

That's it, I guess.

Here's my review on the people who got featured on today's episode:

DISCLAIMER: Just an opinion based on the auditions. It may change as the season progresses so haters back off. Haha.

Ashley Robles
Technically, she's a pretty strong vocalist, but I somehow found her way too robotic as every note seemed too calculated. Plus, she did do too much with the melody. Of course, that's something she could "unlearn" - if there's such thing - but at least she has the talent and her audition was really good. Let's see if she'd be less stiff during the Hollywood week. 8.5/10

Jayrah Gibson
Seriously? Not sure what the judges were thinking, but I honestly didn't like the audition. He ran through the whole song so fast that I couldn't even figure out if he could actually sing. I mean, he just didn't let a note hang for more than a half a second. What was up with that? 4/10

Aubree Dieckmeyer
Look! The judges actually gave some good constructive criticisms! It's about time no? Haha. Aubree, to me, was refreshingly real and upfront. I wasn't sure if the edit she got before her actual audition would hurt her chances, but I found it to be quite endearing. Her voice, while not the strongest, is really nice if a little thin when she goes up into her upper register. Other than that, I actually like her. 7.5/10

Ali Shields
.. and with that, we remember why Ellen DeGeneres is no longer a judge on this show. Haha. Sorry. Ali has a great - or grating? - personality, but I don't think she's a good enough singer to be on American Idol. Her talents, in order: Dancing > Rapping > Singing. 6/10

Kyle Crews
Eh. This guy was so delusional of his suave-ness. I don't know. I usually like these type of vocalists, but with the overpraise and all, I just didn't think he was anything special. His vibrato was annoying and the runs were a little overwrought. Yes, I did think some of the liberties he took with the melody worked, but not all. 7.5/10

Jane Carrey
Hmm. Not to be mean or anything, but people wouldn't care about her voice if she wasn't related to Jim Carrey. I admit, she has a pretty voice, but there's nothing incredibly spectacular about it. Maybe if Randy didn't cut her singing after 10 seconds, I would've appreciated more of her talent. To me, she's just there to make for a moderately interesting audition show. 7/10

Jason Hamlin
Not for me. I'll pass. Next! Oh, he's the last? Until next episode then. Haha. 6/10

I've never been a fan of this franchise, but I must admit that this film was way better than I thought it would be. Sure, the storyline was a bit lacking, but it somehow made up for it with some incredibly swift action sequences and great visual effects. I would even say that this one had a stunning stylistic flair. It was solid and punchy at every second and the action was intense. Plus, Kate Beckinsale!! Just saying. 7.5/10
*2012 DAM NATION movie reviews will be a consolidation of capsule reviews from people who signed up before the year started. Ratings will change once the reviews start to come in.
