Welcome to Monsters University

I have to admit: few things make me more excited than a good animated movie, and Monsters University is right at the top of my summer must-see movies list. I remember seeing the very first teaser trailer a couple of months ago, and stumbling upon the promotional website for Monsters University. Seeing courses like Intro to Door Tech and Advanced Monstriology makes me want to jump right back into the university circuit and enroll in the School of Scaring!

If there is one thing I know I can always trust Disney•Pixar with, it's their ability to put a unique and unexpected spin on the things we already know but never really think about. Monsters, Inc. was the perfect example - I mean, who knew there could be so much more to the world of the fabled monsters hiding in our closets? I love that Monsters University is a prequel that not only gives us a chance to witness the beginning of Mike and Sully's friendship, but also offers us another glimpse into the world of monsters. And what could be more exciting than a school just for monsters?

Storage Solution: Book Cases

When I saw this image from Neon Blush on my feed today, I just knew I found the solution to my growing shoe storage problem. (I know - like I needed another reason to get more book shelves.) As I'm about to hit my first ever apartment hunt on high gear, I often find myself daydreaming about all the possibilities that come with a new space. I'm down to my last two months living on-campus, and although it's been a very memorable four years, I'm more than ready to greet the real world with open arms.

It's been a while since I posted some of my work on here. The past semester of my life has been utterly dedicated to bringing one of my ideas to life in the biggest of ways. Here's a little sneak peek of the upcoming teaser that will be posted at the ADM Graduation Show website and screened at the show on the 10th of May. The full length screening for the animation department is slated for August.

There's just something so satisfying about seeing your efforts coming together.

I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this on the blog, but I am someone who is borderline obsessed with the idea of wedding planning. Now, by no means does this mean that I'm rushing to walk down the aisle (which I definitely am not), but it's always fun to see creative weddings featured on blogs and magazines.

I have seen countless of really wonderful weddings thus far, but this might be the first time I've seen a wedding of two people who work in animation (Disney). Having a boyfriend who works in the film industry like I aim to after I graduate, this strikes me particularly close to home.

Even though you are the mama for everyone, be on the lookout for dude drama this spring. Or if you have weirdo-ness with your dad, this could be a good time to put it to rest—if not with him, within yourself. Do a ritual to rid yourself of pattern relationships under his influence. If the structure of a relationship where someone exerts control over you isn’t working, it’s a good time to let it go up in smoke. If you can do that, your next relationship will be a more symbiotic partnership. (Yes, a bit of a stretch for caretaker Cancer to imagine.) Look for the Lunar Eclipse on April 25 to help bring your relationships to that level! Tip: Any ants in your pants might enjoy crumbs of research about spirituality and religion.

I'm someone who usually takes these things with a grain of salt (undeniably, they are always fun to read), but this particular one from the no.2 issue of Super Nasty gave me something to think about.

A Very Potter Senior Year

I've been a huge, huge fan of Star Kid Productions ever since the first A Very Potter Musical came out. I remember watching it back when it was not popular enough to have to be censored, and back when Darren Criss was just a student starring in an online Harry Potter musical. This past weekend I heard about AVPSY being released, and I just had to watch it as soon as I could! It was great seeing the cast again, and I would recommend anyone (Harry Potter fan or not) to watch this hilarious take on the series.

Because I thought that I should blog a tribute post to the Academy Awards that happened yesterday. The glitz and the glamour couldn't quite mask the unrest brewing in Hollywood. First it was the writers, and now the VFX companies and their respective employees. And the way the issue was dealt with at the Oscars... I know working in the VFX industry means working behind the scenes, and good VFX work means the audience not being able to notice that any work was done at all on screen, but it doesn't mean that the work done is any less valuable than that of the actors and directors who have been glorified this awards season.

And whether Argo actually deserved the Best Picture nod? That's another story.

A Working Space

My ideal workspace should not only be incredibly functional, but also aesthetically pleasing. Nothing makes me feel better than a broad, empty desk space and compartments to keep everything organised. While the desk on these pictures are by no means perfect, they come pretty darn close. Typo sure is a fantastic place to grab home office supplies and stationery at an affordable price - did I mention that they're almost constantly on sale online? I've got my eye on the chalk board storage boxes and mason jars, definitely.

Every year I look back and think that I've seen a good majority of the films that came out in the last 12 months, and then I watch magnificent pieces of editing like this, and it hits me: there is so much I've yet to see.
It's almost the end of the year and already I'm gearing up for awards season. Tons of great movies to catch in January - I can only hope that I have time for them all!

195. Five shoes in one: the Nike Studio Wrap

Over the past couple of months, I got back into practicing yoga again. Back home I used to practice pilates regularly, but have been having a tough time finding a studio that I liked here in Singapore. I'm so happy to have found a new home with Hom Yoga - I remember coming in on my first day and being greeted by the floor to ceiling windows, wooden floors, white walls. I knew then I would never look back.

And if there's anything that encourages me to continue my practice (apart from that fantastic feeling you get after an intense and sweaty work out, that is!), it's new gear. I only recently decided to invest in my first Yogitoes Skidless Towel, and I can't wait for it to come in the mail. On top of that, earlier today I saw the video for Nike's new innovation, the Nike Studio Wrap, and I must say - wow! I used to be thankful for the fact that practicing yoga meant not having to buy expensive running or training shoes, but these gorgeous foot wraps might just change my mind. They look amazingly elegant. I can only wonder how they'd feel on my feet!

194. Look for Less: Finders Keepers Moondance Tunic

I've been eyeing the Moondance Tunic by Finders Keepers ever since I spotted it on Jules (similar versions here and here). The last couple of days have been spent debating on whether I should join the preorder list, but being the student-on-a-budget that I am, I successfully managed to hesitate until the moment preorder closed.

Earlier today I was making my way through the throng of Saturday afternoon shoppers at Forever 21, and right as I was headed to the dressing room with a couple of pairs of distressed jeans in tow, I spotted the graphic printed top you see above. Sizing up an already oversized top miraculously transformed it into a tunic, but its slightly sheer material does render any hopes of wearing it as a dress moot. Though I'd say a pair of denim cut offs should do the trick!

This is a video made by my lovely friend Nicholas Benoit - he makes a video for every SIGGRAPH he's attended and they're all really great, so be sure to check them out on his channel. This video is a little bit different because instead of being the usual montage, it includes interviews with a few student volunteers and team leaders with regards to what being a volunteer is all about. Having been a volunteer for the past two years myself, I can say that it's truly an indescribable experience. The people you meet, the things you get to see first hand... the list is endless. And yes, the food! As I so enthusiastically mentioned in the video, haha.
These people will always be some of my favourites in the world.
