Newcomer Jenna Leigh has made her New York City-based collection the most wanted for the Fall/Winter season. Her designs are practical enough to wear daily, but sexy enough that they make you feel like a vixen-in-hiding. Perhaps her inspiration came from far away destinations, her items have names like: Malawi, Namos, Capri and Notting Hill.

The Malawi collection offers a gorgeous black lace and aubergine satin collection, perfect for vamping it up. The Capri collection offers a seamless strapless bra and the Notting Hill romper promises to provide comfort and seduction all in one.

The iconic womenswear designer Phillip Lim has expanded his portfolio to include swimwear and lingerie.  His debut collection was released just in time for the 2009 Summer season.

True to his design aesthetic, his pieces are classic with playful feminine details.  It includes simple, understated pieces with gorgeous embroidery, beading and embellishments. There are chemises, bra and panty sets, boyshorts and bralettes in the lingerie collection, and they will be sold under the name ” 3.1 Phillip Lim Initials.” When asked why he chose that name, he responded, “Because it’s the initial thing you put on, before you put on clothes.”

His Spring/Summer collection was so perfect, I can’t wait to see what he dreams up for Fall/ Winter!

We just saw on What Katie Did’s blog that Victoria Beckham is wearing a WKD bullet bra in the opening page of a fashion spread in this month’s Harper’s Bazaar. This is the first time the brand has appeared in a Harper’s editorial – congratulations, What Katie Did!

I just came across Calvin Klein Underwear’s new Japanese Blossom collection, and I am smitten! The collection is small (a contour bra, hipster, and chemise) but gorgeous. The graphic blossom print is accented by touches of black and it looks like it would be perfect for any season – the colors suggest the fall, but the flowers bring warm summer days to mind!

The Daily Mail recently declared that pointy bras are making a comeback. Citing recent Louise Golden and Jean Paul Gaultier catwalks, DM claims that the surge in sales “is indicative of a desire to celebrate women’s curves that has followed previous periods of economic turmoil.” A spokesman from John Lewis said,

“Sales have shown that women are no longer hiding their breasts under minimiser bras but embracing their assets and using them to their advantage….Throughout the last century the trend for feminine pointy shaped bras experienced a renaissance following times of a toughened economy, marking a return of unabashed femininity as women seek to have more fun with fashion as a form of escapism.”

John Lewis also reports that some of their best “pointy bra” sellers are Fantasie’s Belle range and Triumph’s Doreen bra (both of which can also be found at Figleaves).

Personally, I’m not entirely sold on the idea that this is all a result of the recent economic turmoil. I think retro styles in general have been becoming more popular in recent years, so it only follows that more vintage-style silhouettes would also come into popular fashion. The hit television show Mad Men has also definitely done its part to glamorize these classic underpinnings to perhaps a whole new group of shoppers. But whatever the reason, I think we can all agree that it’s a fun silhouette to add to your lingerie drawer, and any trend that helps diversify the lingerie available to us is a good thing!

If you’re interested in trying out this trend but the bras pictured above aren’t pointy enough for you, you may want to consider a bullet bra. Bullet bras are the attention-grabbing, conical bras that you might think of when you conjure up images of Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell, and other “sweater girls.” You might be able to find authentic vintage bullet bras if you’re an adept second-hand shopper; otherwise, What Katie Did and Secrets in Lace both have good new versions modeled after vintage bras.
