In this article we&#8217;ll get to know the muscles that make up the lower body.</p>
<p>This is where you&#8217;ll find the big, strong muscles that allow us to get around. The main muscles found below the waist are as follows:</p>
<p>1. Quadriceps femoris &#8211; this is a group of four muscles found at the front of the thigh. These are the vastus lateralis on the outside, the vastus medialis on the inside, the vastus intermedius between them, and the rectus femoris above them. The role of these muscles is to extend the leg from a bent position.</p>
<p>2. Hamstrings &#8211; these are found to the rear of the leg and consist of the biceps femoris, semitendinosus and semimembranosus. The hamstrings are used to flex the knee in the act of pulling the heel towards the buttocks.</p>
<p>3. Gluteals &#8211; these make up the buttocks and consist of the gluteus maximus covering the hip joint and the gluteus medius and minimus on the outside of the hip. The gluteus maximus facilitates hip extension while the other two lift the leg to the side in an action called hip abduction.</p>
<p>4. Hip flexors &#8211; these are found opposite the glutes on the front of the pelvis. Consisting of the psoas major and iliacus they raise the leg to the front.</p>
<p>5. Calves &#8211; these consist of the gastrocnemius and the soleus. Their role is to extend the foot at the ankle.</p>

As we age, we become more susceptible to such things as heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, and arthritis. <p>It is estimated that nearly one half of all health problems in the elderly are directly related to poor nutrition. The elderly are by and large some of the most poorly nourished people. Some reasons for this are as you age your sense of taste and smell decreases, it is harder to chew, and you just don’t feel hungry.</p>
<p>In some cases, financial reasons may affect the food choices made and it may be harder to get out and shop for food due to various physical factors. On top of this, as you get older your body may not be able to absorb some of the nutrition from food as well as it could when you were younger. In some cases a good multi-vitamin (preferably in liquid form) could help offset this. Your doctor can help you find one that’s right for you.</p>
<p>Here are a few things that you can do to plan for better nutrition in your diet and a healthier life as you get older:</p>
<p>Plan out regular meals for each day and try to include vegetables in at least 2 of them every day. If you must snack, use fruits and vegetables rather than junk food like potato chips and candy.</p>
<p>If you have problems chewing meat, try going with things like fish and ground meats. Also try to eat more soups as they can have plenty of nutrition in them and they are great choices if you are on a budget.</p>

<p>1. The first thing you have to do is create the right atmosphere or ambiance. This means finding a cozy, quiet and warm room. You can even use aromatherapy oil or light a scented candle to make the place smell good. It is best to close the curtains so nobody will see that you are giving a massage.</p>
<p>2. You then prepare the massage oil. The best one to use is Jojoba oil but since this is too expensive, you can try almond oil or lavender instead.</p>
<p>3. The best place to give a massage if you don’t have the massaging bed is on the floor. So it is not too hard to lie on, you should spread linen and then cover it over with a blanket.</p>
<p>4. When the room is ready, you tell the person to take off their clothes and lie in between the blanket. If the person is shy, it is okay and let them just lie down in their underwear. Make sure to cover them up to keep them warm.</p>
<p>5. The proper way of giving a massage is by working from right to left. So, you should sit on the right side of your partner on the thigh or between the legs.</p>
<p>6. You then use your flat hands to smoothly slide from the foot to the bottom on top of the back of the right leg and slide again down. Knead the right leg from the bottom to the top in 3 parts by working inwards then outward and then start over. When you are done, the same thing will be done to the opposite leg.</p>
<p>7. Once you are done with the legs, it is time to work on the back by placing yourself at the head facing the legs. Again, you use your flat hands to smoothly slide from head to the bottom with each hand close to the spine. Slide over the edge of the bottom to the side and then slide on the sides upwards just underneath the scapulas, you slide back and move the rest back up to the beginning of the shoulders. This should be done 3 times.</p>
<p>8. You then move over to one side and then use your left hand to do a full circle on their back. With your right hand, you do a half circle beginning away from your left going clockwise. This should be done very slowly, smoothly and sensitively starting at the bottom and then moving all the way up to the shoulders and the back again.</p>
<p>9. Now that you have finished working on the back, it is time to work on the front by letting the person lie down on their back. But before you do that, the steps taken to massage the legs should also be done on the left and right arms.</p>
<p>10. Next, you rub your hands and then place these slowly over your partner’s eyes. This must be placed inches away from the face for about 1 to 2 minutes before you slide your thumbs from the part between the eyebrows to the point where the hair starts.</p>
<p>11. You place the thumbs a bit higher then move it apart. This should be repeated until you reach the beginning of the ear then you move on to the nose, cheeks, upper and lower lip.</p>

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)says that &#8220;a diet based on the Food Guide Pyramid provides adequate amounts of all the vitamins a child needs.&#8221; But then, there are a lot of other factors that decide whether your child is getting adequate amounts of vitamins, such as the child&#8217;s eating habits, composition and quality of the diets, etc.</p>
<p>One important thing to note here is that the quality of most foods available now has declined. The only good ones available now are organically grown food. Just look at these figures: the amount of calcium in broccoli has fallen by a whopping 50 per cent, the iron content in watercress is down by a steep 88 per cent, the vitamin C in cauliflower has fallen by a huge 40 per cent&#8230; You may not be giving your child the usual fare of refined food spiked with sugar and fat and carbohydrates. Yet, there is no guarantee that he or she is getting her required daily dose of children&#8217;s vitamins.</p>
<p>Still experts disagree much on this subject of children&#8217;s vitamins. The AAP advises giving your child a vitamin supplement only if your pediatrician recommends it. That is because most of the daily foods are fortified. However, the AAP acknowledges that a daily dose of children&#8217;s vitamins won&#8217;t hurt your child unless it exceeds the recommended daily allowance for any vitamin or mineral. Also, such a daily dose of children&#8217;s vitamins help fill in any gaps in a child&#8217;s nutrition, and also helps children who are sensitive to certain foods. What is to be borne in mind here is that children&#8217;s vitamins cannot replace good food. They can only supplement your child&#8217;s food. If your child is not eating well, you should not only give him children&#8217;s vitamin supplements but also take steps to improve his eating habits and his diet.</p>
<p>Oh yes, there is one more reason why you should be giving your children a proper diet. Recent research says diet and behavior are interlinked. The Appleton Central Alternative High School replaced vending machines with water coolers and started offering fresh vegetables, fruits, whole-grain bread and a salad bar in place of the hamburgers and french fries. The result: No longer does a police officer patrol the school&#8217;s hallways, there is no vandalism, there is no litter.</p>
