It has come to our attention that some of our books have been made available as .pdf downloads. In every case, these downloads are illegal. We do not currently offer any of our books in downloadable .pdf format. Be aware that if any website tells you that you can download our book, for free or otherwise, you will be participating in a copyright violation and helping some very bad people get away with a crime.

Of particular concern is one website which portrays to offer our books, for free, via a simple download. However the file that is downloaded is an executable (.exe) file which may contain a virus. This particular website is operated out of China and portends to have thousands of books available for free. However, the site is completely fraudulent, complete with fake, inactive links to non-existent facebook & twitter accounts. It also uses a fake McAfee security seal and has a “Contact” form that always appears to be broken. By outward appearance, the website uses professional graphics and is quite deceptive.

I have chosen not to identify this website so as to not provide them with any sort of backlink or advertising, and I mention it here only to illustrate the great lengths that hackers will go to gain access to your computer.

The rule of thumb is this … Never download a book from someone other than the original copyright holder or from a legitimate source such as Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

How to give a password notice to my loved ones after my death? It is something we all hate to discuss, Estate Planning. Let’s face […]

How to give a password notice to my loved ones after my death?

It is something we all hate to discuss, Estate Planning. Let’s face it, planning for our own death is just plane creepy. Just the same, it is something that all grown ups eventually have to face, especially if we have children. While there is plenty of information on the internet about estate planning in general, there is very little in specifics about how to give a password notice.

For a moment, think about how difficult it would be for you to have to recover all your passwords. Now imagine how difficult it would be for your loved ones if they didn’t even know what online accounts you had in the first place.

So we have created a free, downloadable password notice for users of the 5th Dimension Password Keeper that you can include with your estate planning documents.

Click Here to Download Password Notice to Estate Executor

The “Password Notice to Estate Executor” document contains a place for you to note where your password book is stored, a blank password grid that where you can number the characters in your password key and a place for you to sign & date the document.

You should keep the estate executor password notice in a safe place such as your home safe, lockbox or with your estate attorney. You should never store any estate documents in a bank safety deposit box.

You will note that we have repeatably stated that you should never write down your password. Ok, we admit that “never” was probably too strong of a word. So we now clarify that there are situations, such as planning for our estate and allowing our successors access, in which it is ok to write down those passwords. JUST MAKE DARN SURE that they kept in a safe place where your loved ones will find them only AFTER you have passed away.

Note: The document is not intended to provide any sort of legal advice or direction. You are required to check with your own estate planning attorney for the suitability of the password notice for your unique condition.

Is the NSA Hacking into your computer and stealing your passwords?

In March of 2012, CIA Director David Petraeus made a startling revelation at a summit for “In-Q-Tel”, the CIA’s technology investment operation. He stated that Americans are voluntarily assisting the CIA in bugging their own homes through the use of new “smart” technology hidden within their own appliances.

“Items of interest [ie: American Citizens] will be located, identified, monitored, and remotely controlled through technologies such as radio-frequency identification, sensor networks, tiny embedded servers, and energy harvesters — all connected to the next-generation internet using abundant, low-cost, and high-power computing,” Petraeus said.

Meanwhile, the NSA is building a Fortified Data Mining and Storage Facility in the Utah Desert which is scheduled to go online in September 2013. According to high level sources, the data center will be tied in to every listening post, spy satellite and resource available by the NSA and will make it the most powerful spy agency in the world.

CIA Hacking Americans?

It turns out that the term, “Hacking” is relative. When foreign agents in China, or other nations infiltrate American computers it is indeed called “Hacking”. When U.S. agents do it to their own citizens, it is called, “Surveillance” and thanks to new anti-terrorism laws most of this “surveillance” can be; and is often; done without a warrant.

Most people correctly associate “spying” with the word “surveillance” but few understand fully that the concept of surveillance not only includes peeking in your windows, taping your phone line and looking through your credit card receipts (as citizens have already come to expect) but it also includes hacking into your computer, your Facebook and Twitter accounts and of course, securing any passwords necessary to do so.

Thanks to the Patriot Act instituted by Bush and dramatically expanded on by Obama, the government now has free reign not only to hack into your computer or online social accounts, but now may also spy on you in your own home via all those internet connected devices as David Petraeus has flagrantly bragged about … and they are literally hiring thousands of hackers to do exactly that.

In addition to hiring hackers by the thousands, the Politico reports that the Obama administration has a team of 150 “techies” whose job has been expressly created to spy on Americans that the administration deems may be a threat to the furtherance of their political agenda.

What can you do about it?

Well, you can forget about suing the government. In August of 2012 a three-judge panel for the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco federal appeals court ruled in favor of President Bush’s controversial Terrorist Surveillance Program, which allows the government to spy on Americans without a warrant. It seems that tyrannical governments are loathe to release their sovereign power to oppress.

In truth, the only thing you can do is arm yourself with tools that make it difficult for the government to access your private information.

The first thing you must do is ALWAYS use long, complex passwords for your internet accounts. This makes it increasing unlikely that anyone, including the government, can gain access to your accounts by brute force hacking.

Of course, this wouldn’t stop them from getting a warrant to search your accounts directly. But then again, that is the entire point. Such would be the proper legal means to access your information and requires the presentation of evidence before a judge. This is how our system is supposed to work.

The next thing you must do is STOP keeping your passwords in your computer. Any device which is connected to the internet is capable of being hacked. Think about it this way, if Facebook; Twitter; The White House; The CIA; AT&T; Bank of America and dozens of other Fortune 500 companies are unable to secure their computers from hackers – what makes you think your $500 desktop computer is secure?

The truth is that the only secure way to keep your password list away from hackers; be they foreign or domestic; is to have them written down in a book. Top Security experts all agree that your house is far more secure than your computer.

As for password books, there is only one book that has the ability to protect your passwords from the prying eyes of thieves, snoopers and even government spies. It is the only book that secures passwords in print form… It is the 5th Dimension Password Keeper.

The 5th Dimension Password Keeper comes in all sorts of shapes, sizes and models, but they each have a proprietary password grid system that keeps your password secure from anyone – including the government.

It is time to protect yourself and maintain your Constitutional Right of Privacy.

Hackers making fake phone calls!

I just had a personal experience from a (not so bright) phisher / hacker pretending to be from Microsoft and warning me that my computer has been compromised by malware.

Obviously, this particular scumbag had no idea who he was talking to. I decided to have a little fun with him and to lead him on a bit before dropping the ax on him. But what concerns me; and should concern you; is not only how brazen he was in making such a phone call, but that I could tell he was part of a much larger operation. Several “phone operators” could be heard in the background making similar calls. In fact, it sounded like a full fledged call center. This was not some one-off hacker trying to gather information. This was a full-on illegal syndicate.

It was a little difficult to understand the speech of this particular “service technician”, allegedly from Microsoft. The thick middle eastern accent had me asking him to repeat himself over and over, and occasionally he would turn away from the phone and talk to someone else (in Arabic) who was in the room with him. In this particular case this turned out to be advantageous for me – because it gave me additional time to get my recording device setup.

The phisher correctly recognized that I didn’t quite buy his Microsoft story so he went into his predefined narrative to “prove” he was actually from Microsoft by asking me to type in “assoc” in a command prompt. I was then supposed to be convinced that he was legit as he read the CLSID number back to me.

Of course, I had heard of this before. David Jacoby of Kaspersky Lab even wrote about this exact scam back in August of 2012. So the fact that he had repeated the registration number of ‘ZFSendToTarget’ file extension back to me left me unimpressed.

After a while I started to get a little more direct with the scumbag. He responded that he is “there to help” and that I should be a little more “cooperative”. At that point I was starting to loose interest so I told him that I have been recording the call and will be sending the recording to the FBI. Then, he can learn to be a little “cooperative” with them.

The fake phone call ended in perhaps the most comical way that I could never have imagined. This “Service Technician” started whispering into the phone how he would (sexually) service my mom & my sister, not exactly Microsoft approved conversation.

At this point I was laughing so hard that I didn’t even hear him hang up the phone.

In all seriousness, this type of scam is nothing new. There have been similar events dating all the way back to May of 2010. But the fact that these scumbags continue this type of scam indicates that it continues to be profitable. Be aware but if you ever do get one of these types of calls, have some fun with it. The longer you waste their time, the less time they have to scam someone else. Besides, there is nothing so satisfying as screwing with a scumbag.

Celebrities are learning to fight hackers with the help of a new password book.

Being a celebrity often has many perks; preferred restaurant seating (without reservations), invites to the best parties, free swag – just to name a few. But as a public figure it may sometimes feel like you are a human magnet for kooks as well as crooks.

Kim Kardashian’s Twitter Account was Hacked in 2011

Twitter accounts seem to be a common target of celebrities. Barack Obama, Kim Kardashian, Nicole Scherzinger & Britney Spears have all had their Twitter accounts hacked. Selena Gomez and Lady Gaga not only had their Twitter accounts hacked, but their Facebook accounts as well.

Each of these hacks occurred as a result of using a weak password. While it may seem obvious that celebrities, by the nature of being a public persona would be a little more careful in selecting their password, celebrities are in fact, human. And therefore subject to complacency and laziness just like the rest of us.

The 5th Dimension Password Keeper aims to change all that. Celebrities are learning that the unique password grid in the 5th Dimension system is the perfect solution for high profile people. The password notebook allows them to use safe password practices, such as using random character passwords and using a different password for each account, without having to actually remember all those different passwords. And because the 5th Dimension Password System keeps the password encoded, if the book is lost or stolen the password remains secure.

This unique system allows celebrities (as well as the rest of us) the ability to have access to their accounts when they need it, without compromising their privacy or security in the process. The 5th Dimension Password Keeper not only stores website logins & passwords securely, but also email. The book also has a place to record network settings, computer logins and even hardware purchases and software keys.

Check out the new password storage solution that gives celebrities the security & privacy they desire.

Sporting an all new, high contrast Black on Yellow look, the Mega-Password Mousepad enters into the new year with style.

Mega-Password Mousepad from the 5th Dimension Password Keeper

The new mouse pad contains 598 random characters inside a 26 x 23 grid. This translates into awesome security that is almost incomprehensible. For example, a standard 8 digit random character password can have as many as 386,962,199,654,842,000 (386 quadrillion) possible locations on the grid. To put it another way, this means that the Mega-Password Mousepad is 10 million times more secure to a thief – than that same 8 digit password is to a hacker!

The Mega-Password Mousepad is 1/8″ thick and has a non-slip backing to keep it from sliding around on your desk. The High Contrast yellow background allows for more precise movement when using an optical mouse yet still provides a firm grip for roller-ball mice.

If you already have one of our competitors ‘insecure’ password books, the Mega-Password Mousepad is a great way to add an extra level of security. Instead of writing down your password in that ‘insecure’ password book for all the world to see, write down a code location from the Mega-Password Mousepad such as “B7 – H12”.

The Mega-Password Mousepad is intended to be used to store your computer login but can be adapted for many other uses.

Consumer Alert!

Convincing Fake PayPal Email is making the rounds.

Most often, fake phishing emails can be distinguished fairly easily by their poor grammar, spelling and general sloppiness. However this new round of fake emails mimicking PayPal has many people concerned. The quality of the phish is excellent with well tailored IP masks, legitimate image links and perfect duplication of all the nuances that are part of a real PayPal payment notification.

The phish is designed to institute panic in the victim with a fake notification that they have made an extremely high payment from their PayPal account. The goal is to get the victim to click on the “Transaction ID” to verify the payment. The click inevitably leads the victim to a hacked website. Of course, we don’t click on these elements so we are unable to confirm the exact activity that the criminal conducts but it is not unusual for the link to either install a virus on the victims computer, or trick the victim into releasing more information by impersonating the real website, in this case that would be PayPal.

If you receive this email you should NOT click on any element within the email. Forward it to: spoof@paypal.com and they will take care of it with their legal team.

If it’s too late, and you have already clicked on the link, you should immediately contact PayPal to report the issue and then reboot your computer into safe mode and run a full system virus scan. If you had entered any personal or financial information, immediately contact your bank.

Below is a copy of what the fake PayPal email looks like. Note that email names, payees, dates & transaction numbers all vary. The subject line also vary and has been reported as:

Your PayPal Ebay.com Payment

Your PayPal.com Transaction Confirmation

You have made an Ebay.com Purchase
