It absolutely was; Teah & Charlie absolutely lucked out (and we’re certain a whole lotta’ prayer helped a lot, too!) with one of the few perfect spring Saturdays of 2013!

The dance floor flooded, my hair fell, the ceremony had to be inside the tent. But I loved every minute of it. Especially this one. We were soaking wet and cold, but it was such a fun time. We are eternally grateful to everyone who helped make our day unforgettable and especially to Little Acorn for capturing it all so well. Our main goal (other than getting hitched) was for our wedding to ‘feel like us,’ and we feel that these photos do just that.”

What a perfect kind of day for an engagement shoot this was! We met Anna & Mike (with her wonderful twin sister and her mom!) out at one of our favorite shooting spaces (The Waters, out in Pike Road) and had just a fantastic time. And hey! We shot a little film, too! We’ve taken the liberty of noting which shots here are film, if only because they look a little different (the rolls we shot with were a little older and expired). Go on, click through! Hi, guys; Luke here! If you’ve poked around a little bit, you know that for a while, we’ve been playing with shooting film. While Jackie learned & trained on film (shooting, developing, etc.), my experience previous to now can best be described as… tentative. Like most folks my age (eh hem), film isn’t an entirely foreign thing for me. And I “learned” the very beginning basics of photography years ago, shooting with my Pap’s old Nikon set (now under the care of my younger brother). And while I still prefer the world of digital for a multitude of reasons (including the ability, when shooting in RAW, to go back and re-edit from scratch whenever I’d like), film’s always held a weird, mysterious spot of curiosity for me. It’s not something I believe we’ll ever offer as a “service;” in truth, it’s more of an experimental hobby. I’m not always able to shoot it. Some days are just too hectic for my slow brain to make quick work of all the manual settings necessary. And frankly, I’m lucky if one frame out of 36 comes out “right.” Click through for more!

But some days, like for Teah & Charlie’s wedding, I was afforded a nice chunk of time at the very beginning while the girls were getting ready. And when I got the scans back on Friday, I was ecstatic that more than a handful came out looking (what I though to be) pretty darn good.

We still have some time before Teah & Charlie’s wedding day is ready (like f’real ready), but I wanted to share these now because why not? A huge thanks to guys at Indie Film Lab for doing an incredible job of developing and scanning. And for not making this total n00b feel like a total n00b in the whole process.  Tech notes: shot on Ilford Delta 400 with a Canon TX (Jackie’s very first camera).

Well, here we are, the last wedding from 2012 that we’re featuring on the blog. Already it feels like this was ages ago; it might have something to do with the fact it was warmer on this day in December than it is today in late March! Kimberly & Chase’s day was one of our favorite of 2012 for a couple of reasons. First off, look at the photos. Pretty self-explanatory. Second is the story behind how we came to connect with them. In what was very much a story of “right place, right time,” Jackie randomly met Kimberly’s mother at the local salon (Amplify, thankyaverymuch) and they got to talking about this, that, her daughter’s wedding, the fact Jackie’s a wedding photographer, bing bang boom, and before we knew it, December 8th found itself booked. Get to clickin’! Click, click, click…

“Having cotton used throughout my wedding was a dream come true! From the bouquets to the boutonnieres, Grace’s Flowers of Alexander City, Alabama did a wonderful job working with bags of cotton we brought them from Chase’s Aunt and Uncle’s farm. Using cotton from a family member’s farm made having touches of it everywhere even more special!”

“Chase made our ceremony arch and even personalized it with our initials and our wedding date! I loved the feel it added to the Spring House Lawn.”

“Right before the wedding, my mother and I shared a special moment by happenstance. We had both ‘held it together’ and were pretty calm all day… until we were left alone and she began to speak! She began to tell me ‘I hope today is everything you could have dreamed of…’ I quickly confirmed that if we had this conversation right now we would both be in tears before the ceremony! As you can see from the hug, we did not have to say anything at all. And to now answer your question, Mom, yes, it was the wedding of my dreams with much thanks to you!”

“My Grandfather has always been my escort for everything. Having him walk me down the aisle and give me away meant the world to me!”

“We knew we where taking a risk having an outside, December wedding. But who would have thought 70 degrees would happen on a wedding day in December! Only in the South! As the ceremony began the clouds moved and the sky opened up to a beautiful sunset. God could not have blessed us with better weather!”

“We feel extremely blessed to have had our Dream Barn wedding at the Stables at Russell Crossroads, complete with all of our dear family and friends. We got engaged while on a horseback ride on the beach, so it was only fitting to start our lives together with those and the atmosphere that we love best!”
