Howard Homecoming Take 1: Greek Life

2012-10-22T18:06:00.004-07:00

Because Howard's Homecoming is a grandiose thing to all who know it and those who don't I decided to break it up into parts. Howard University, which is the founding place for 5 of the Divine 9 Fraternities and Sororities, has a rich legacy and abundant amount of Greek pride. Howard has always been nicknamed the Mecca or Capstone of Black Education because of it's elite education in literal studies and African history. The community of Howard University strives to cultivates young Black minds in knowing their past to encourage a prosperous and enlightening future. With that being said, I give you only a glimpse of Howard Homecoming: Greek Life.

Well it has been a long time coming you all. Sorry for the delay but college is OFF THE CHAIN!!! As some of you know that I attend Howard University as a Musical Theatre major. My major is a bit demanding due to the fact that we are FINE FINE FINE Arts. It is a great program and strongly any performer of color to definitely attend. Notable alumni like Debbie Allen, Phylicia Rashad, Diddy, Ossie Davis, Donny Hathaway and a host of other entertainers that are on your TVs, Stages, and radio right now. Aside from the entertainment business, Howard is the leading University in producing the world's best Black engineers, businessman, physicians, and everything. It is so lonely at the top and hope all of you can understand that it is one of the best opportunities you can make as a college student. If you want a University with culture, diversity, truth, and service I strongly encourage you to attend HOWARD U (THE REAL HU if I might add) Stay tune for the next post about DC THEATRE SCENE AND ALSO HU HOMECOMING. Until the next post MARVEL out..

Happy Black History Month!!!

2012-02-04T20:03:00.001-08:00

Tonight was the final night of my final Black History Month Program as a high school student. It brought me immense joy and truly reminded me how lucky I am to be amongst a thriving community of artist. Our show's theme was the Evolution of Black Music. It showed how our how our music has evolved and influenced the music of various cultures. It gave our audiences as well as our cast a better understanding of our culture.. As the director and choreographer I am thrilled to see how the people I had the privilege of working with make their mark in our history and the world's history. Until the next post Marvel out.

The Apparel oft Proclaims the Man Part 1***

2011-12-09T16:11:00.001-08:00

As I said in the last post, I was going for a modern take on Shakespeare and it went really well. I am thrilled to show off my cast and the costumes that I picked for the crew. I did Timon of Athen and made Timon a fallen rockstar that just can't seem to get it right with anyone. It was a tedious journey but we did well and our audience loved it (not to mention the instructors) so without further adieu the costumes. A lot of piece work enjoy. The story goes as follows, once of a hot New York Night a drunken Timon runs into trouble with his bandmate and best friend, Al who brings with him a groupie Timandra. Al tries to speak sense into him but he doesn't listen. After that goes wrong Timon doesn't know what to do and decides to commit suicide until ... (Check out the rest in the part 2 post ***)

Today I was browsing the web, I came across my daily dose of fashionology. The Sartorialist is a fashion blog ran worldwide, it gives the public an inside look of fashion around the world. The reason for this post was to forewarn all my followers that they will be expecting a post from me about the importance of dress in the world of entertainment. The next few post will be about how the apparel oft proclaims the man in the world of entertainment. I am presently directing a Shakespearean show and I am making it in present time. It has something to do with New York alleyways and Rockstars. Pretty interesting take on Shakespeare and I plan on keeping you in the LOOP. My show I am directing is The Life Timon of Athens. So until the next MISANTHROPES' post. Be fashionable and MARVEL out.

A reader is an active learner. And seeing as though I learn each and every day. I guess that qualifies me to be a reader as well. I love to read and learn something you didn't know about grammar, culture, or just a leisurely reading of a play all these things are great ways to build your humanity chakras and to really open the mind to the possibilities of the world. Its a beautiful thing. Until next time MARVEL out

So I just finished up a killer run with MCAT with Camp Rock the Musical where I played the smooth hip hop dancer with a killer voice, Sander Loya. It was such a fun experience and I got my first mohawk for the show. Pretty awesome. I am just loving it and really assessing my wardrobe with the new cut. It took some growing on me to truly like it but I am digging it right. Now. In rehearsals for Stage Door where I have to grow my hair out. Wow. Fun. Until Next time MARVEL out

Broskies and Betties

it has been way too long since I last updated the blog. Been super duper busy with all things SENIOR. Last year in high school and looking to do profound things. I just truly love the way the year is working. Looking forward to my abundant amount of blessings that will come my way and all the people I will hopefully inspire very soon ;) This post is only the beginning in my Wait I'm a Senior* Series. Its Hairspray*

2011-07-27T13:37:00.000-07:00

So this summer I have the opportunity to perform with some extraordinary people. Here in Birmingham I am doing Hairspray with Red Mountain Theatre Company. The cast, production team, and direction was all superb. I truly couldn't ask for a better experience. Our 4 week run is coming to an end on August 7th, 2011. Our houses have been packed and they have been enjoying the show from the classic opener "Goodmorning Baltimore" to the closing number "You Can't Stop the Beat". Before this I did the advanced Musical Theatre Workshop with RMTC as part of my Hairspray contract. Choreography, Music, and last by certaintly not least ACTING classes were all really helpful in my development as a talent. I just wanted to "check in with my peeps" more pictures to follow in the next post. Just continuing to give all Glory to my Lord. This summer will be deemed one that I have experienced higher levels of performance, FAITH, and HUMILITY. One of my favorite to this date. I will be coming back to you from LA very soon as I try myself out on the west coast market. LOVE YOU all stay BLESSED and MARVEL out.

We Rise Bham Anthem*

Whats going on Broskies and Betties. Just wanted to let you know that everything has been going really well this past month. As you know Birmingham, Al was hit with a pretty severe tornado the evening of April 27th 2010. Since then our town has been doing everything we can to bring awareness to the situation because we are in desperate need of help. So why not help out by the thing I know how to do best, Perform. I was blessed enough to be invited to participate on the John Lennon Education Tour Bus, which is a tour bus that brings awareness to situation. My friends and I made a song, recorded it [thanks to AVID. :)], and shot a music video all in the same day. This was a remarkable experience. Since the time of the recording we have been offered to be featured on artists upcoming cds and been ask to perform the song for the City Council. It doesn't take money to help out it takes your voice and your special abilities after that nothing matters. Without further adieu, We Rise by our group The Inspirators. MARVEL out!

Performing for City Council

2011-05-03T22:30:00.000-07:00

I was blessed enough to be given the opportunity to work with the Birmingham City Council. I was granted the opportunity to perform a monologue for their City Council Meeting in lieu of Black History Month. I was asked not anyone else to perform for them. It was truly an awesome experience one of the best feeling I have ever had. Enjoy. Until next time Marvel out
P.S. There was a standing ovation that shortly followed, in the condition of the sound equipment they turned it off. Had to save the equipment. :)
