Hi guys

Before i begin let me just say that i am not writing this to offend anyone in anyway, if you have an opinion on this i would love to discuss it further in a civil manner. I'm only saying this because i know dating can be a sensitive issue for some people and i am not trying to belittle anyone's relationship including my own. In fact this is probably why i don't talk much about my relationship on the blog, but today i'm choosing to be brave and share a little more with you guys.

So I wrote this article on interracial dating over 2 years ago (when I was still new to NYC) where I discussed the difficulty of dating black men and why black women should not limit themselves by only dating within their race.

Well over 2 years later, now in my mid-twenties and dating in this Hipster jungle called New York City my opinion has somewhat changed, not dramatically but there is definitely a change. Before we even dive back into the “interracial” dating talk, I need to take a minute to explain to you guys the difficulty us ladies might have while dating in a big city such as New York. I read this article by an evolutionary psychologist named Satoshi Kanazawa, in which he attempted to describe the mathematically proven best way to date in a big city. He says, “If you live in Ames, IA, you can expect to meet, say, 10 men – 10 potential husbands – in your life. In that case, your optimal strategy requires you to reject the first four men (no matter who and how good they are) and then marry the first man who is better than any of the ones that you have dated before. If you live in New York (or London), you can expect to meet, say, 1,000 men. Now your mathematically proven optimal strategy requires you to reject the first 369 men (as n approaches infinity, the precise number to reject becomes n/e) and marry the first man who is better than any of the hundreds of men who came before.” Well that probably explains why people in New York automatically become serial daters.

Either way, putting aside the difficulties of dating in New York and focusing all your energy on finding a “Good Black Man” can leave you alone and bitter turning you into “The typical angry black woman”. Well trying to avoid that I decided to open myself up to interracial dating and see what else was out there. But from my years of experience, I can assure you that White Men can be just as commitment phobic, annoying and unreliable as a Black man. Ironically my boyfriend happens to be White and doesn’t posses any of those qualities. He’s a great guy and I love him but now that wedding bells are ringing all around me, I’m beginning to wonder if life would be easier if I end up with a Black Man.

A few weeks ago I caught up with my ex-boyfriend from college. Being half Nigerian and Half Jamaican; we both have very similar culture and ideas. We joked about the past while contemplating the future. I recall visiting his obnoxiously large African/Jamaican family (when we were dating) as they sat around their dinner table, passing around a delicious plate of spicy jerk chicken and jollof rice, practically screaming at each other. But yet I loved every minute of it because they reminded me of my family. The atmosphere was so familiar … so… what is the word “easy”. Unlike when I visited my current boyfriend’s family (who is of British decent): We sat around eating flavorless steak as his small family spoke idly amongst themselves, while his mother complained about the cold Connecticut weather after which I completely spaced out in the middle of our conversation. But they are good people and his mother is so sweet that I can’t help but love her and that’s what matters the most to me.

At the end of the day I would rather be with my boyfriend than with my ex, for my ex and I clashed personality wise. I still believe more black women should open themselves to all races because love is colorblind. But there is still a small part of me hoping I find someone, not so much within my “RACE”, but within my “CULTURE”.

Overall, if you find that you're regularly having problems in your relationships with Black men, dating a White one won't guarantee that you'll get a different outcome. As said by relationship expert Sil Lai Abrams “If that’s the case, it's worth considering that maybe the reason you're consistently having problems of commitment in your relationships with Black men has absolutely nothing to do with the men”.

Sexy Ciara worked the carpet in this black sequin & sparkle Pamela Rolland gown with a short train and sheer paneled sleeves. While Keri Hilson, who was a part of the Donna Summer tribute, rocked a feminine tuxedo look by Emilio Pucci. Not feeling Keri's look as always but Ciara looks stunning.

Jordin Sparks looked cute as always, Melanie Fiona looked simply beautiful in a sheen-heavy white tuxedo jacket by Tom Ford with her Preen leather pants and Louboutins. While Kelly Rowland was turned heads in this emerald green silk gown with a thigh-high slit with fringed Nicholas Kirkwood heels. Not a huge fan of the dress, it looks a little big on her.

LaLa Anthony looked edgy in this silver and broken mirrored embellished dress, while Brandy rocked another edgy origami-inspired dress for the occasion. Singer/Actress Kat Graham looked lovely in this sheer white and silver gown, finally Iggy Azalea kept it sexy in this black Pucci gown with sheer cut outs. Iggy's body is CRAZY!

While Joan Smalls attended '12-12-12,' a concert benefiting The Robin Hood Relief Fund to aid the victims of Hurricane Sandy presented by Clear Channel Media & Entertainment,

Jennifer Hudson performed at the Nobel Peace Prize concert at Oslo Spektrum in Oslo, Norway.
