With little Phinehas taking his time to arrive I have been working on a few little projects for him. One of those was taking the wicker bassinet my mother had for me and converting it to a moses basket of sorts.

I’ve always loved this little basket but it didn’t exactly scream “me” if you know what I mean. The light wood with the green and pink stripe was definitely from the era of my birth.

At first I thought I would just spray paint the bassinet white and see if I could use it to contain blankets or something in Noah’s room.

At that point I decided 1) the white color wasn’t my favorite and 2) the hood had to come off. At this point I stalled out for a number of months in indecision. Painting a passed down bassinet is one thing…..chopping it in half and hoping I could get it back together was another thing all together.

But I finally mustered up the courage and chop away I did, carefully cutting the basket along the line I wanted.

<a title="bassinet to moses basket" href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/49745524@N04/8740744845/"

The post Bassinet to Moses Basket appeared first on The Adventure Bite.

You may have noticed over the last week or so that there has been lots of new changes on the blog visually speaking! While I am always tweaking things here and there I decided a few things really needed some attention this last week.

So here are some of the highlights and perhaps more importantly why I made them:

I shortened up the header to make a bit more space “above the fold” which basically means what you see when the page first loads. This enabled me to add our welcome message and still have our ads start “above the fold” which is a requirement for our new ad company.

Then I added some new pretty social media buttons and pushed them up into the header image to save more valuable real estate on my sidebar.

I changed our photo from this one:

to our engagement photo. My reasoning is that you can’t actually tell what we look like in the old photo and we want to make people feel like they know who we are when they first arrive on the blog. You wouldn’t hang your head when you are introducing yourself to someone new would you?

Next big changes are going to be in the Category pages. These are the Food, Design, etc.

If you scroll down a bit you will see
Keep Reading...

The post Refreshing The Blog Design appeared first on The Adventure Bite.

So excited to share with you our work in the master bedroom!

It’s been a few….ok quite a few weeks since we got started on this project. Living in the living room is always a strain on the mind more than anything but with all the garden projects going on we just couldn’t stop long enough to get this project wrapped up.

Finally I decided I had the time and energy to spend over the course of a few days and got the room cleaned up and vacuumed under the baseboards. Then sweeping and mopping to get it nice and clean.

The next day I did the base priming with a roller on a long stick. Getting on my hands and knees anymore is becoming quite the chore so I left the edges for Kevin to hand brush later that weekend.

Finally it was time to tile! The transition around the corner out of the kitchen was by far the trickiest and took most of one evening for Kevin. After that though it was easy sailing! Nothing like peel and stick tile to make you feel super satisfied with how much flooring you can lay in an hour or two!

We knocked out the first third
Keep Reading...

The post Master Bedroom Update! appeared first on The Adventure Bite.

We started the master bedroom project several weeks ago, understanding that it probably would get stretched out a bit with all the spring garden craziness. Our theory was that it would be best to get it underfoot while I was still not so large that I could help if needed or at least have the energy to keep up with Noah solo for several days or knock out other projects if we got some help.

Some of you probably already know this but we have decided to have a home birth with our newest addition. We are very excited about this! We are really pushing to finish painting and flooring our master bedroom beforehand so it can be a nice relaxing area to setup the labor pool and escape from the rest of the household if/when I need it during early labor.

Kevin gets a personal day once a quarter which we hadn’t used up yet and we knew we could combine that day and take a paid vacation day to extend our weekend into four days of projects.

We had some amazing friends volunteer to help out with Noah on various days which was incredible. Who knew how much you can accomplish without a toddler underfoot and a strong focus!

Kevin was able to (with the help of our good friend Jordan) knock out all the prep work in the bedroom, clean, mask and spray two coats on the trim before the end of the weekend. They rocked
Keep Reading...

The post Painting Our Master Bedroom appeared first on The Adventure Bite.

It really was only two months ago which, in the grand scheme of things isn’t that long ago. The last two months have been a whirlwind of trying to get the garden and animals up to speed before the oppressive summer heat hits and this little baby is here. As such most of the interior projects have gotten put on hold until we can breathe again after we get the watering system in place and the summer seedlings in the ground in the next month.

But before all that craziness started I did actually get one more step finished in the light project that I haven’t had a chance to share.

I am happy to report that I was successful in stripping all the paint off of our crazy looking half finished light shades:

And getting them frosted and rehung:

After a few more sessions with the paint stripper on some of the tougher spots of red, I used Rust-oleum’s Frosted Glass Spray Paint to frost the glass:

Lots of thin coats resulted in a quite satisfactory outcome.
