Unbeknownst to me, Vlog 32 was released on my 4-year YouTube Anniversary and I forgot to talk about it! Whoops!

I can’t believe that it’s been four years since I signed up for YouTube! A lot has changed in that time, and I hope that the quality of my videos has gone up with the times.

In the near future, I plan on getting an HD camcorder so that you guys can see me in HD as well as the surrounding areas. I’m also planning on continuing to vlog while I’m in the Navy and in Japan as much as I can and hopefully let you guys in on the scenery.

Well, it’s been fun looking back on these past four years. Here’s to many more!

My mom was talking about redoing the bathroom so I looked up on Google for some sinks. I might be getting a new guitar or a camera soon, depending on how much I get back from my income tax return.

If I’m able to get a guitar, I’ll be getting a PRS SE One in Antique White. I want to add a neck humbucker to it as well as change the positions of the volume knob and the 3-way pickup selector switch that I’ll need.

If I’m unable to get a guitar, I’ll just get a Sanyo Xacti VPC TH1.

I’m also getting close to raising the amount for keeping TheAndySan.com online for another year with only about $20 left to go!

As far as my weight goes, I finally reached my goal of losing 15 lbs this past Friday! My Navy recruiter decided to reschedule when I go back in to MEPS for this Thursday-Friday so I’ll just be doing more situps and running outside to shrink my waist until then.

Even though I lost over 15 lbs and can fit into Size 34 jeans again, which I haven’t been able to do since high school, I’ve only lost an inch around my waist. It’s certainly not bad, but I expected to lose more inches along with the pounds.

Well, it’s been fun, but I’m gonna hit the sack soon so I’ll see you guys on the flipside! Have fun!

While I was doing my warmup for my first run of the day, I decided to record a vlog to tell you guys why I’m joining the Navy.

You see, the other day, I received another email from Leo, who you might remember from Vlog 11. In his email, he basically says that he thinks going into the Navy is a really bad idea. Instead, he suggests that I should just sell some of my things in order to rent an efficiency apartment in the city, look for a full-time job out there, and save up for a year without buying any non-essentials (like guitars lol). That way, I have a nice fat wad of cash and my own pad again.

I haven’t emailed him back, and I’m not going to because I think it’s pointless to focus my energy on people who are basically trying to run my life. I know he means well and his heart’s in the right place, but ultimately, I make the decisions when it comes to my future and I think that the Navy is the right place for me, at least for the next four years.

I know that I’ve touched on why I’m joining the Navy, but I haven’t dedicated a whole post/vlog to it, which I think it deserves. There are several reasons why, but most of all I’m joining to start a new life.

I’m also joining the Navy to gain life experience. I’ve noticed for a long time now that the quality of my blog has been going down (I’m sure the sponsored posts haven’t helped the quality either), and because I haven’t been doing anything exciting like traveling or just living life, I think my blog as well as my life would continue to go downhill if something drastic wasn’t done.

Earlier this year, I sat down one day to look at what I’ve done with my life so far and where I’m going and to be honest, I didn’t like it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had some fun times and I’ve gotten past some pretty nasty things too; but I felt that I’m not really going anywhere.

I started thinking about what I want to do, like visit Japan and finishing college, and it became clear that I wouldn’t be able to do that without making a big change. Although visiting Japan and recording all my exploits there might seem like a really low goal to some, I think that if it’s that important to me, I should do it no matter what and by any means nessicary.

This became all the more relevent with the passing of Rodger Swan, one of the most watched (and universally liked) j-vloggers from YouTube. Although he was only a year younger than me, he had already done what I want to do and so much more! He had gone to Japan (twice!!), recorded what he did there for others to see, and just plain had fun with his life.

When I die, I want to look back on the fun times and be proud that I got myself out of my parents’ house and where I want to be, surrounded by good friends and family. I also want to leave something for my friends and family to read and watch after I’m gone, which is another reason I like to blog and vlog. It’s sometimes fun to look back at what I’ve recorded and/or written and try to get into my headspace at that point in time.

With my joining the Navy, I’m keeping my goals to a five-year maximum and I don’t want to plan beyond that simply because I tend to overcomplicate things when I do that and even the simplest changes now could have dramatic effects in the future so I would have to replan everything all over again, and I just don’t want that headache. I want to keep myself open to possibilities, but I need to stay focused on my goals as well.

So what would I say to Leo if I were to write him back? I’d thank him for the long and thought-out email, but I’d also say that the Navy is right for me and would help me reach my goals of graduating college and going to Japan.

In the meantime, I’m gonna be training for the Navy as well as looking for a job for some spending cash. Thus far in my training, I’ve lost almost 14 lbs. In order to keep my weight down, I’m gonna focus on not eating after supper because I’ve noticed that I tend to gain weight or stay the same weight whenever I eat after supper, especially if it’s late at night. I go into MEPS this Thursday-Friday so I’m really excited/nervous about it!!

After I get back from that, I’m gonna focus more on performance instead of just weight loss. You see, I have to take a physical test before I even go into boot camp and my goal is to do at least 60 pushups and situps and run 1.5 miles in 12 minutes. I times myself on Sunday, and I got 16 minutes and 24 seconds, which is not bad, but I still have to train myself to lower my time as well as be able to do the situps and pushups.

Well, I’m gonna go eat my dinner so I’ll see you guys later!!

Hey gang, it be TheAndySan here with a brand spanking new vlog!

I wanted to give you guys an update on how I’m progressing as far as my weight loss goes. It’s been 23 days since I started seriously working out and dieting, and I’ve lost a total of 12.4 lbs (that’s about 5.6 kg for my international audience) and I have a 36 in waist (that’s about 91 cm)!! My overall goal is to lose at least 15 lbs overall in the next 10 days. I can now fit into my old size 34 jeans from high school!! At this rate, I should be definitely qualified for the Navy when I go to MEPS next Thursday!

I wanna apologize for not blogging/vlogging for awhile, but I’ve been pretty busy working out and shoveling all this snow that’s hit the region and everything.

As I had said in my previous video, I hope to get stationed in Japan for my first overseas assignment. I’m also considering South Korea as an alternative if for some reason I can’t get on any base in Japan. If I do get stationed in Japan, I’d really like to be at the Yokosuka base. The late great J-vlogger Rodger Swan made an excellent video of his visit to Yokosuka back in 2008 when he was still Tokyo Swan. Check it out:

The really cool thing about my time in Japan is that I’ll be one of the few J-vloggers that live in Japan that isn’t in college, teaching English, has a 4-year bachelor’s degree, or married to a Japanese citizen! I can’t wait to be able to give you guys my rather unique view of Japan!!

So here’s the basic rundown of my life plans so far:

1. Continue to work out and lose weight.

2. Get qualified for the Navy.

3. Once I’m qualified, find out when I go to basic training aka boot camp.

4. Work out to get my body in shape for the rigors of basic training, and possibly get a job during this time if I can.

5. Go through basic training for 8 weeks (9 if you count the processing week).

6. Go through A-school, which takes between 3-4 months.

7. Hopefully get shipped out to Japan, preferably on the Yokosuka base,  and try to serve as much of my 4 years of active duty there.

8. Go back to college after my 4 years of active duty are over and get my 4-year bachelor’s degree.

9. Go back to Japan as either a exchange student while I’m in college or get a job when I finish college (ideally, I wanna work for Danny Choo aka Tokyo Stormtrooper).

Well, it’s been fun, but I gotta go and work out since I missed my regular time because I was putting this vlog together. See ya next time!

Vlog 30 – Navy Weight Loss Update

01 – What’s Up With All These Short Posts?

In short, it’s because I need the money in order to keep TheAndySan.com up and running. Once I’m in the Navy, I’ll be able to easily make the payments. Heck, I might even splurge and go for DreamHost’s 10-year hosting!

At this rate of writing sponsored posts, I should be able to save this site before the May deadline, but I’m not for certain. Here’s the basic breakdown of my website’s annual costs:

It’s not impossible to reach that amount, but it will take some effort. 02 – How’s The Weight Loss For The Navy Coming Along?

In a word, great! For the past 16 days, I’ve been running A LOT on the treadmill as well as doing situps and all that fun stuff. Shoveling snow also helped me lose a couple pounds.

I’ve also been eating healthier too and I’ve cut out eating bread (except for flaxseed bread) and drinking pop. I’ve cut back on some other things, but those are the basics.

In 16 days, I’ve lost 9.4 lbs! I had a couple of weight gain setbacks, but I’m working through them one day at a time. My goal is to lose at least 15 lbs by February 25th so that I can pass my weight inspection for joining the Navy.

03 – When Will You Be Blogging & Vlogging Regularly Again?

That’s the big question! I’m trying to take it all one day at a time so it’s very difficult to write posts on a regular basis. With my online time continuing to be erratic, it might be awhile before I’m able to post regularly again. Of course, I will be able to do it again eventually, but I have no idea exactly when. As my situation changes, you guys will be the first to know about it.

While I can write and schedule posts ahead of time, it’s impossible when it comes to vlogs. Vlogs take up a lot more time than a written post (usually around 3 hours from start to finish, compared to an hour or so of just writing), which can get hectic when you’re trying to get everything done on time.

With that said, I’m gonna go and eat supper. See ya next time!
