Cuteness overload!

Filmmaker and new dad Karan Johar had so far kept the identity of his twins hidden from the world.

In fact, on March 5, when the 44-year-old filmmaker made the official announcement of the arrival of his twins Roohi and Yash, he did not share their pictures.

Johar who became a single father of twins, via surrogacy also kept them away from the paparazzi while he was bringing them home from the hospital.

Johar babies are here!

But now it seems he has done what any excited new parent would do. Johar finally shared the first ever picture of his twins and they look gorgeous.

The filmmaker shared a candid photograph of his mum Hiroo holding his babies on his Instagram account. And he also made an important announcement with it.

A post shared by Karan Johar (@karanjohar) on Aug 7, 2017 at 2:56am PDT

Along with the photograph, Johar captioned it: "6 months old today....#roohiandyash #happyrakshabandhan #lovesofmylife."

For the uninitiated, Karan Johar's twins were born premature and had to kept under observation for more than a month.

In fact, he shared a note about his premies and stated, "My children were born two months premature and worryingly underweight. Like any person in this situation and on the brink of fatherhood, my heart sank."

The director added, "Knowing that there were complications with my babies' birth owing to how soon it was, I was terrified. All I wanted to do was hold them and protect them but they needed to be in the NICU. It was painful to see how tiny they were... Thankfully, I had a great support system. Roohi and Yash were in the hands of the most competent and patient doctors. Something that had its roots in an ordeal, soon turned into an experience that I will never forget."

Karan designed a special nursery for his twins

But thankfully, by March end he was able to bring them home, where he along with Bff Gauri Khan designed a nursery for his babies.

@gaurikhan designs my baby nursery with so much love and care!!
A post shared by Karan Johar (@karanjohar) on Mar 30, 2017 at 9:58pm PDT

With whites and pastels as the primary theme, she decorated Roohi and Yash's nursery with a gorgeous crib, lots of fun toys and storage for their designer baby clothes!

With her own personal touch and quirky design, Khan made the new dad super happy. But even after that Johar had to remove a few things from the nursery, owing to his superstition.

Some news reports suggest that Karan's astrologer asked him to remove pictures of cow's skull and birds such as vultures, which as per him shouldn't be in a baby's room.

Either way, the newest picture that Johar has share is an indication that all is well and that Johar is clearly enjoying his time as a new parent and couldn't hold back to show his babies to the world.

But we are sure, he must have had to work hard to care for his premies, as any normal parent.

And if you also happen to be parents of premies, here's what you need to know about the time they may be kept under observation.

3 things to know if your baby is in the NICU

Most premies are kept in neonatal intensive care unit or NICU. And while at first the place might scare new parents with its tubes and high-tech nursery, rest assured your baby will come out healthy and stronger once through there.

But here are a few things you must know about an NICU.

Importance of NICU: If your baby is born prematurely or suffered complications during delivery or is showing any signs of health issues during the first few days of birth, they will be kept in NICU based on the doctor's recommendations.

Equipment used on the baby: This depends on the health problem your baby may have. However, there are five primary equipments used in an NICU such as monitors and alarms to respond to the baby's needs immediately, isolettes and warmers to monitor the baby's body temperature, phototherapy machines to treat jaundice and respiratory equipments as well as machines and tubes to be used as IVs.

Personnel who will care for your baby: There are specialised personnels who care for the babies in the NICU and these include neonatal nurse practitioner, nurses on shifts, a neonatologist, a respiratory therapist and a nutritionist among others. Basically, there are a lot of specialists who are responsible for your baby in the NICU.

You'll be surprised at the remarkable health benefits this gives your little one.

For most moms, memories of their baby soon after birth involve blood, vernix and baby being whisked away to be returned pink, clean and swaddled.

A newborn's first bath is routinely carried out in most hospitals around the world soon after birth. But now this trend is slowly changing.

Here's why delaying your baby's first bath might be the healthier option for both him and you:

1. Vernix is good. Really good.

You know that white, cheesy substance that covers your baby's body at birth? That is vernix and it's not dirty and meant to be washed off immediately.

Vernix, which is composed of your baby's skin cells shed early in his development, contains proteins that literally turn it into an antibacterial cream.

During birth, your baby is exposed to bacteria such as Group B Strep and E-coli, which can cause serious infections in a newborn, if they enter his body. Vernix helps to protect your baby from such potentially lethal infections.

Leaving the vernix on your baby's body without washing it off immediately after birth has many benefits.

2. Baby's blood sugar is stabilized

According to pediatric experts such as Dr. Jack Newman, bathing a baby too soon after birth can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). This is why: soon after birth, a baby has to adjust to life outside the womb. This includes being separated from what was his main source of blood sugar in the uterus - the placenta.

Bathing often causes stress in newborns, releasing stress hormones, which cause a baby's blood sugar to drop. This drop can make baby too sleepy to breastfeed, causing a further drop in blood sugar.

3. Breastfeeding is improved

Breastfeeding a newborn can be quite difficult for some moms, especially when it comes to getting baby to latch. When baby is whisked away for medical procedures or a bath soon after birth, breastfeeding for the first time becomes even harder.

But experts point out that babies who get skin-to-skin contact with mommy immediately after birth and are allowed to breastfeed at that point are much more successful at latching on properly.

This is because their memory of sucking and swallowing amniotic fluid while in mommy's womb is still fresh and they remember how to do it. Any longer than an hour, and the tendency is for them to forget.

Allowing baby to remain with mommy soon after birth promotes better bonding and breastfeeding.

4. Better temperature control

There's nothing like mommy's warm, bare skin to give comfort to a newborn baby and importantly, help regulate the little one's temperature soon after birth. However, giving baby a bath too soon can cause hypothermia, and if baby gets too cold, this may result in his blood sugar dropping and other issues.

5. Better bonding

Dr Kathleen Berchelmann points out that in their first few minutes of life, babies are not meant to spend this time with a nurse, midwife or doctor. This time should be spent with mommy and daddy, where precious bonding takes place. Dr Berchelmann says, "as long as the baby does not need help breathing or immediate resuscitation, babies need to be held by their mother."

She also points out that little ones who have this immediate one-on-one time with their mommy show better blood sugar levels, temperature control and find it easier to get that first precious mouthful of mommy's colostrum.

6. Natural moisturization

If vernix is allowed to remain on baby's skin, not only does it contribute to his better temperature regulation, but it also acts like a natural moisturizer. You could gently rub the excess into your little one's skin, like nature's finest body butter!

Reports say that Rituraj Sahani had not been in touch with his mother, Asha Sahani, for the last one year.

In a shocking piece of news, an Indian IT professional, who was working in the US, returned home only to meet his mother, but only found her skeleton there.

Reports say that Rituraj Sahani had not been in touch with his mother, Asha Sahani, for the last one year. The Sahanis lived in Oshiwara, Andheri and when Rituraj returned home on Sunday he was shocked to find his mother's skeleton at home.

Rituraaj also told the police that his father, Kedarnath Sahani, died in 2013 and his last conversation with his mother was in April last year. At that time she had told him that she is not capable of living alone anymore and would soon move out to an old age home. That was the last time he spoke with her.

And when he did return to check on his lonely mother he couldn't open the door as it was locked from inside. He called a key maker to get the door opened.

"On Sunday, Rituraj landed in India unannounced. He reached Lokhandwala complex in Andheri, where his mother lived, around 4.30pm and rang the doorbell. But the door was locked from inside. He then called a key maker. A hole was drilled in the door and the latch was opened. On entering the flat, Rituraj found his mother's skeleton. She was fully dressed," a senior police officer told The Times of India.

The body had fully decomposed and police say that the woman must have passed away at least a few weeks ago.

“In the bedroom, Rituraj found the body of his mother, which had decomposed to such an extent that only her skeleton remained. We suspect she must have passed away at least a few weeks ago,” said the police.

When living away from home

It's saddening that Rituraaj couldn't even check on his mother from time to time. Maybe he could have saved her or at least done something for her before she passed away. The butter reality is that in today's times almost all children are living away from their parents in cosmopolitan cities for better living, education and job opportunities.

However, checking on your parents from time to time, calling them on occasions and even otherwise and being with them at least once a year would not only make them happy but also leave you satisfied as a child.

Only if Rituraaj had done the same, would he had been spared of this lifetime guilt that would haunt him forever. We wish him peace and hope that God gives him strength to bear the massive loss.

Want to raise well mannered kids? Here are etiquette practices to encourage as they grow!

Raising well-mannered kids means encouraging them each day. It's a constant process that requires discipline and loads of patience.

We previously explored things to avoid if you want to raise well mannered kids, but now let's take a closer look at specific manners your kids must learn from age 2 until they reach the age of 9!

Saying "please" and "thank you"

As soon as they master the art of conversation, they must also learn the value of being polite. Saying 'please' when making a request and saying 'thank you' is an important good habit to encourage as early as possible.

Not interrupting a conversation

Once kids learn to communicate, parents must guide them to wait until they can speak up, unless it's very important.

Saying "excuse me"

To enter a conversation, they should learn to politely say 'excuse me.' This rule of etiquette also applies if they want to request to pass or if after they burp or cough.

Not commenting on someone's physical appearance

Though the bluntness of kids can be endearing, it can often offend others. They must learn that it's not okay to call someone fat, for instance, even if it's behind their back.

photo: shutterstock

Knocking before entering

Even if a door's not locked, kids must learn to knock before opening a closed door. Teach them to wait for someone to respond before entering.

Avoiding foul language

Kids are like sponges. They imbibe expressions from whatever TV show they're watching or from grown-ups. Sometimes, they don't even know an expression is foul. So, do your best to correct them and discourage cursing and foul language before it becomes a habit.

Not making fun of others

Teasing or making fun of others is simply bad manners. Parents should also discourage name-calling, no matter how rampant it is on the playground.

Covering their mouth when coughing or sneezing

Out of consideration for others, kids must form the habit of covering their mouths when coughing or sneezing.

Not picking their nose in public

The same goes for nose picking. Teach them to wait until they're home, or excuse themselves to go to the bathroom.

When someone is in need, offer to help

For instance, their aunt is working hard in the kitchen during a family gather, remind them to offer to help. It's the polite thing to do.

Not pouting when something is boring

Kids have to sit through class or church services, and they're not always fun. But teach them it's polite to sit properly and be patient. This may be tough for younger kids, but constant reinforcement will surely help in making this a habit as they grow older.

Ask nicely if you need something

When dining, for instance, teach them not to reach across the table. Instead, encourage them to ask nicely if they need something handed to them and saying 'thank you' afterwards!

What other good manners would you add to the list?

You might be ready to get pregnant and take care of a child, but how can you be sure that your husband is ready for the responsibility?

For a lot of parents, the question of starting their own family is a no-brainer; especially since having a child is one of the biggest joys of being a parent.

However, it's just as important to know that your husband is prepared for the immense responsibility of raising your own little human.

Here are some questions that your husband should be able to answer before having a child:

1. How sure are you that you're ready to be a dad?

Truth be told, no amount of preparation can get you ready to become a parent. Even if you do all the research and ask for tips from everyone you know, chances are, you'll still have a hard time taking care of your child. And that's totally fine; taking care of a child is a huge responsibility, and it catches everyone off-guard, even the most prepared moms and dads.

However, if you want to start a family, your husband should be prepared for the responsibility. It isn't enough that your husband says "Yes, I'm ready," it's also important that he knows that having a baby means a lot of stress, sleepless nights, and the occasional diaper changing.

Then there's the matter of your pregnancy. He should be able to take care of you, take you to your weekly checkups, and take you to the hospital if you suddenly go into labor. Having a husband that you can depend on while your pregnant would also significantly help reduce the stress of your pregnancy.

It's a big responsibility, and if you're husband is confident that he's ready, then you've got nothing to be scared of!

2. Why do you want to be a dad?

There's a lot of reasons to want to be a dad. As a wife, it's important for you to know why your husband's reasons for wanting to have a child, and would help you know if your husband truly is ready for a baby.

Having a child isn't a solution for a feeling of emptiness, or being unsatisfied with his life. If those are his reasons, then you might want to talk things through, since maybe the solution to his problems doesn't have anything to do with having a child.

Either way, the important thing to remember is that the both of you want to have a child because you want to bring life into the world, and take care of your child so that they grow up to be a wonderful loving, caring, and beautiful human being.

3. What do you think makes a good dad?

Asking your husband this question lets you know what values he wants to teach your child. It also lets you get to know your husband even more. Because even if you're already married, the dynamics of your relationship would definitely change once you have a child, and you'll see a side of your husband that you've never had a chance of seeing before.

You should also ask him what he thinks makes a 'bad' dad, and what he can do himself in order to avoid those negative traits. You could also ask him how he thinks your relationship will change once the both of you become parents.

4. What kind of father do you think you'll be?

This question gives you an insight into what roles your husband thinks he'll be doing once he becomes a dad. It also lets you know if he's aware of the different things that parents need to do when taking care of their kids, as well as how he'll discipline your kids, and teach them what they need in order to grow up well.

5. Will you constantly try to be a better father?

Your husband should always be looking for ways on how he can become a better father to your child. Parents don't know everything about having a child, so when you choose to have a child, everything should be treated as a learning experience.

That's why it's important for you to know that you're husband is willing and able to constantly change his parenting style, and learn from his experiences as a dad in order to take better care of your child.

Having the assurance that your husband will do his best in order to become an amazing and responsible parent should be the signal that your husband is indeed ready to be a father!

My name is Nikita Aggarwal and I come from a small town called Hapur near Delhi. When I got married in a family in a posh Delhi locality 3-years ago it became the talk of the town in my little native place. Everything went on smoothly and after a year of marriage, I was pregnant.

The day things changed...

When I was five months pregnant, one day my brother came to pick me up so that I could spend a few of my maternity months at my parents' place. I clearly remember that day I was feeling uneasy and giddy and exceptionally low on energy.

My mother-in-law who generally has a problem every time I go to live with my parents was sullen and even passing snide remarks that how in her village people would mock at the idea of letting their pregnant bahu travel.

I was smiling and ignoring and blamed my uneasiness on this stress. When my brother came he was not even offered a cup of chai. He sensed the tension and even asked me if I would want to cancel the trip.

By now I was feeling quite unwell but I told him to go ahead with plan. I reached my parent's house in an hour and by now I was still feeling unwell but was excited to be with my mother.

That night something tragic happened. As I went to the washroom I found myself bleeding profusely. I was rushed to the nearby hospital where the doctor informed me that I had a miscarriage. My world came crashing; my husband came soon after and decided to take me back home.

As was expected after a day of rest my mother-in-law began accusing my brother of coming and picking me up in such a sensitive state. I tried to reason with her that may be it was not the journey but the loss happened even before I left home. My doctors too were of the same view but she was not the one to listen to anyone.

Luck smiled again

However, God was kind and after six months I fell pregnant again. Now I am well into my second trimester. My pregnancy is going smooth, touchwood. And my doctor has given me permission to travel by road.

Just a week before Rakhi I told my husband that he should be taking me to my brother’s home in Hapur just like our routine for the past two years has been and he seemed as excited as me.

But soon as my mother-in-law got to know our plan all hell broke loose. She has been repeating my last years’ misfortune and cursing my brother for what happened last year. She has also been bad mouthing me that I am such a careless mother-to-be. My father-in-law too agrees with her and so do my sisters-in-law.

The truth is for all of them this is a perfect opportunity to deny me something that is so important for me emotionally. What happened last year was unfortunate but neither my brother nor my decision to visit my mother had anything to do with it.

The taunts continue

My sisters-in-law who came home early today have been smirking and I even overheard them saying ab maza aaya and ab pata chalega sasural kya hota hai.

My parents have advised me to listen to my in-laws, as they do not want to take responsibility. My husband says that God forbid something happens my parents and I will be blamed forever and hence I should compromise. But it breaks my heart because I know the reason is not really my well-being.

It is a way for my mother in law to show she has an upper hand. My brother offered to come but I advised him not to because every year in the morning after I used to tie him rakhi he used to take my bhabhi to her brothers who live at a distance of three hour drive from Hapur in the interiors of U.P. I didn’t want to be this selfish and deny her of the opportunity to meet her brothers.

I am dying inside and wondering if emotionally torturing an expecting woman not mean? My in laws in the garb of being caring are denying a pregnant woman her happiness as my husband sits mute shying away from taking responsibility.

If this is what being married is all about then well, it doesn’t feel too good.

Without any consequence!

We send our kids to school believing that they are safe with their tutors. But this school teacher has clearly broken that trust and done the unthinkable.

In an act that can best be described as 'shameful,' a school teacher in Assam took obscene pictures with his female students. And to top it all, he then posted them online.

Naturally, this act has received backlash from concerned parents and citizens alike.

In the creepy images that have now gone viral, one can see the teacher reportedly identified as Faizuddin Laskar, posing obscenely and even kissing and groping the young adolescent girls.

Laksar is a serial offender

The incident took place at Model High School, Katlicherra in Hailakandi district of Assam. According to reports, this man has been identified as a 'serial offender,' which means this is not the first time he has attempted such an act.

He earlier (allegedly) molested a woman and was roughed up by the mob. In fact, a local news channel, DY365 reported that the mob severed one of his fingers as a punishment of his crime.

But is roaming scot-free!

However, no strict action has been taken against him for this inappropriate act.

As soon as he posted these pictures on his Facebook page, the parents of the girl filed a police complaint against him. Laskar was routinely questioned but not arrested.

This incident has heightened tension in the Hailakandi district of Assam. People are questioning the role of the police in shielding this 'monster' who clearly coaxed the young girls into participating in this photoshoot, which clearly took place in the class.

But the bigger question is: where were the authorities when Laskar was busy taking these horrible peodophile-like pictures? Shouldn't they have done a background check before hiring this man as a teacher?

Either way, one thing is clear, this peodophile and serial offender is not scared of the law. He molested a woman once before and found nothing wrong in groping and taking obscene pictures with young girls, again.

Sadly, this is not the first case of abuse in school.

Every second child is a victim of sexual abuse in India. According to the 2013 statistics shared by the National Crime Records Bureau, of all rapes, 12.5 percent of the total of 3,125 rape victims in India were minors.

Rising cases of child sexual abuse and what parents must do!

This news also highlights the necessity of informing our children about child sexual abuse so they are aware of their surroundings and are able to raise an alarm on time.

As parents, it may not be possible to helicopter your child all the time, and that is why it is all the more important to make them aware. Here are a few things you can do:

Notice warning signs of sexual abuse such as frequent injuries

Also notice if your child is always on the lookout for somebody or shows signs of fear

Keep a tab on any lacerations on the body especially on private parts

Notice if your child shows signs of aloofness or is scared of strangers

Notice if your child shows aggressiveness and does not want to attend school anymore

All these are signs of sexual abuse and you must keep a tab on them. Read this article to know what you should do if you notice your child being sexually abused.
