tick, tick…Boom!

The late Jonathan Larson continued his thematic obsession with timeless stories of struggling artists and young lovers with this semi-autobiographical musical about an aspiring SoHo composer. This is the story of what happened while Larson wrote “Rent,” the breathtaking and bittersweet musical that celebrates a community of New York City artists as they struggle with the soaring hopes and tough realities of their world. Inspired by Puccini’s classic opera “La Boheme,” the hit Broadway rock musical won both the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award in 1996 and produced a slavish cult following and film adaptation. Unfortunately, Larson’s sudden and tragic death left this second musical incomplete and meant that he would never be able to enjoy his success. The Outre Theatre Company production runs through June 9.
