Walter, 50s-60s, a formerly successful businessman, who, twenty years earlier, disappeared, re-appears on his deathbed in a hospital in the middle of the California desert. His two sons – Cliff, 20s-30s; Travis, 30s-40s – are notified, and they converge upon the desert to say their goodbyes and make peace with their father. Travis, after his father ran away, ran away, too, so the reunion at the hospital is multi-faceted. It is soon revealed that Walter is schizophrenic. The play moves back and forth in time, dramatizing the beginnings of Walter’s illness, the violent outcome, and the generational and genetic risk that it carries for the two sons.
