The 2013 Kia Rio till now continues with a small change and the SX trim today receives a standard steering wheel paddle shifters.

The Kia Rio has an interior with a leather finish. This adds to the elegance and style. There are also models that have a cloth finish. This also looks impeccable inside. The driver’s seat has a six way adjustment. So you can accommodate yourself according to the way you want the seats.

Introduction

2012 Audi A7 is an all-new model and is being touted by the automaker as a next step in the evolution of automobile, being a saloon, which looks like coupe with functionality of estate. Filling the gap between a 5-door Sportback and hatchback in Audi parlance and a 4-door coupe or fastback sedan, it offers practical utility, sumptuous luxury and elegant design all in one package. The automaker’s sleek new A7 is a luxury sportback along the same lines like the BMW 5 Series GT. The difference here is that design is instantly captivating, as compared to BMW. Slotted between the recently redesigned A8 Saloon and the revised A6 Saloon, the all-new A7 Sportback is a distinctive choice in upper reaches of luxury car segment. Highlights include Quattro four wheel drive system, a 3.0 liter supercharged V6 powerplant, an array of safety, cutting edge technology and luxury features and comfortable seating for 4 passengers.

The Audi A7 Sportback is an executive vehicle designed, developed and introduced by Audi in the year 2010 in 5-door hatchback body style at Paris Auto Show. It’s based on Volkswagen Group MLB platform that’s shared with 2011 4th generation Audi A6 and marked the company’s return to executive hatchback market since 1977 100 Avant 5-door and 1970 Audi 100 3-door Coupe of ‘70s. It was announced at Pinakothek der Moderne art museum on 27th July 2010 in Munich and introduced in 2010 at Paris Auto Show. The A7 was introduced at New York Auto Show in 2011 in United States as 2012 model. It was preceded by concept vehicle, the Audi Sportback concept showcased at Detroit Auto Show in 2009. The concept vehicle originally spawned Audi A5 Sportback that was launched as 2010 model in September 2009.

An astonishing tech powerhouse, the 2012 Audi A7 fuses an impressive navigation system and sport capabilities with luxurious driving. In style, it follows the form of Aston Martin Rapide and Porsche Panamera with a hatchback cargo area and a sedan like 4-door passenger compartment. Nevertheless, the automaker managed to keep its looks tame enough not for inspiring the same sort of negative reaction stirred up by Porsche Panamera. Its fastback design doesn’t look awkward or bulky. The Audi xenon plus headlamps with signature LED daytime running lights not only enhance visibility while using half of the energy of traditional bulbs, but also add a distinct look to the vehicle.

The luxurious appearance of 18 inch wheels with all-season tires provides a refined complement to the style of 2012 Audi A7. LED lamps are better as compared to traditional conventional bulbs and offer bright light emissions and faster activation speeds. Emotion packed, athletic and aesthetic design, innovative technology and sporty character: the automaker is entering a new market class with A7. The large 5-door hatchback with dynamically flowing rear end brings together the best of 3 vehicle concepts: comfort of sedan, practicality of station wagon and sporty elegance of coupe.

The 2012 Audi A7 has a wide ranging, entire technical expertise of the automaker. Its lightweight body features a number of aluminum parts, while the stylish cockpit shows a workmanship of craftsman’s level. The infotainment, safety and assistance systems come from the luxury segment, while 4 V6 powerplants fuse refined power with innovative efficiency. The 3.0 TDI generates 204 horsepower has CO2 emissions of only 139 grams per kilometer. The sporty chassis provides attractive new solutions like electromechanical power steering. The differences the production and between this model were slight, lying mainly in the single frame grille, the headlights, the exterior mirrors, the rear end and the air inlets. Plenty of details inside the A7 are reminiscent of Detroit concept vehicle.

The 2012 Audi A7 is a moving sculpture – a five-door large coupe with harmonious proportions and a sporty body, a long wheelbase, short overhangs and a long engine hood. It marks the next step in evolution of Audi’s design language, the leading marque for automotive design. The latest full size A7 measures 4.97 meters long and features a 2.91 meters of wheelbase. The automaker provides a choice of 11 colors for A7. 2 solid colors include Brilliant Black and Ibis White; 6 metallic colors include Ice Silver, Dakota Gray, Moonlight Blue, Havanna Black, Quartz Gray and Oolong Gray; 3 pearl effect finishes are Garnet Red, Impala Beige and Phantom Black. The company also provides a tailored paint finish according to personal wishes of the buyer.

Trims and Features

The base trim level of A7 comes standard with automatic triple-zone climate control system, leather, aluminum or genuine wood interior trim, power front 12-way heated seats and a power sunroof.

The Cold Weather Package is offered on all trim levels and includes a heated steering column and heated rear seats. All A7 can be equipped with summer performance tires, a 19-inch Sport Package with a distinctive wheel design, a 3-spoke sport steering column with paddle shifters and a sport suspension. The Audi Side Assist Package gets power folding side mirrors, an Audi PreSense Rear system and Audi Side Assist blind spot monitoring. Extra options for all trim levels are rearseat side impact airbags and metallic paint.

Opting for the Prestige and Premium Plus trim will get you 20-inch Sport Package or 19-inch wheels as a separate update. The Driver Assistance Package is also offered that adds Audi Side Assist, Audi PreSense Plus and Adaptive Cruise Control. Unique to A7 3.0T Prestige, an Innovation Package adds all the features of Driver Assistance Package and gets full LED headlights, Night Vision Assistant with Pedestrian Detection technology and a head-up display.

Beneath the 2012 Audi A7’s Hood

The 2012 Audi A7 is propelled by a 3.0 liter V6 supercharged engine that generates 310 horsepower and 325 pound feet of torque. The engine is paired with Tiptronic eight-speed automatic gearbox with Quattro four wheel drive system. It goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.4 seconds with the top speed of 130 mph. The Quattro all-wheel drive system of Audi is the next-gen system with torque vectoring varies the power split from standard 60% rear and 40% front distribution. Audi Drive Select is standard on A7 and tailors steering, transmission and engine calibration to Auto, Comfort, Individual or Dynamic settings.

Safety

Luxury vehicles tend to be equipped with abundance of safety features, and the 2012 Audi A7 is no exception. 8 airbags, including knee airbags for front passenger and driver are combined with ventilated 4-wheel antilock disc brakes with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution, an anti whiplash Audi Backguard feature, stability control and traction control. The Premium Plus gets parking sensors, while the Prestige adds active headlights.

Interior

The interior of 2012 Audi A7 is lovely, as one could expect from a vehicle in this segment. The dashboard suggests a wide horizontal arc, wrapping into front doors and around driver. There are 2 kinds of standard perforated leather, the Valcona or Milano with aluminum trim. The standard wood ash trim with brushed aluminum or dark walnut are optional. The heated, six-level power front twelve-way seats including 4-way lumbar support enable the passenger and driver for electronically adjusting seats’ backward and forward position, angle of seatback and seat cushion and height. Audi music interface with iPod/iPhone integration is a connective technology that provides intelligent integration with iPhone and iPod. Any iPod Generation 4 and higher can be connected via glovebox, offering full iPod controls on MMI display.

Driving Characteristics

Acceleration of 2012 Audi A7 is quick amongst large saloons in its segment, however not at the expense of fuel economy. The Drive Select feature of Audi enables drivers to select from 4 unique modes (Auto, Comfort, Individual and Dynamic) to suit their particular tastes. As compared to Audi A8 sedan, its suspension response isn’t tailored by Drive Select. The Audi 3.0 liter all aluminum TFSI V6 powerplant benefits from the fusion of supercharging and FSI direct injection for creating imposing torque produced over a wide range, making full power usable at any speed. In total, the all-new 4-seater 2012 A7 is a 5-door Sportback that achieves its goal of sedan convenience, wagon functionality and coupe elegance.

Good fuel economy; upscale cockpit, brilliant automated manual gearbox, standard four-wheel drive system.

Dislikes

Oompa-loompa size rear seats; pricier; performance not that sharp unlike few rivals.

Introduction

2012 Audi TT is an entry level sportscar in the Volkswagen/Audi AG selection of performance vehicles and is aimed directly at the class leading vehicles from Porsche and BMW. While the 2012 TT may not offer all of the thrills of its competitors, it is still a solid choice with its well rounded nature. With enthralling performance, exemplary efficiency and dynamic design, the Audi TT Roadster and the TT Coupe are now more attractive than ever. The lightweight bodies’ design constructed mainly of aluminum and the interior have been redesigned with great attention to detail, whereas new technologies lower the fuel consumption of the small sportscar. The high intensity headlights and signature LED daytime running lamps not only enhance visibility while using half of the energy of traditional bulbs, but also add a unique look to the vehicle. They get 24 piercing LED daytime running lamps, which indicate the Audi domination at 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The 2012 Audi TT’s appearance is improved with specially designed air inlets with sharply drawn out, 3D edges. This design feature emphasizes the extremely assertive look of Coupe. The TT Coupe design provides numerous features. Amongst them is an assertive front bumper that frames High Gloss Black Singleframe grille and the air inlets. Besides the front, the rear bumper has also been engineered for enhancing its overall aesthetic. The whole thing comes together for creating a classic Audi design. The instantly recognizable profile of TT is complemented by the distinctive rear diffuser with dual exhaust. The fusion adds an exclusive and aggressive look to it.

For several years, the Audi TT has been widely known as a design icon and now it looks even more assertive. Feature highlights include chrome foglamp grilles and High Gloss Black Singleframe grille that adds a unique element to its exterior. So as to enhance vehicle downforce, its retractable rear spoiler mechanically retracts at 50 miles per hour and extends at 75 miles per hour. This feature also integrates a manual override mode for activation at all speeds.

Vorsprung durch Technik are the 3 words, which express the very essence of Audi. Vorsprung durch Technik is not just a slogan. It’s the company’s way of seeing the world. It is a driving force behind their history of innovation, which continues into the 21st century. Indeed, plenty of technologies which Audi founded remain in their vehicles today. Some are milestones in the history of motorcar. From their beginnings in 1899 to Grand Prix successes of Auto Union team in ‘30s and their more recent wins at Le Mans, the automaker has always been at the forefront of the automotive industry. The 2012 Audi TT is one of the most iconic vehicles in the company’s lineup. Both the Roadster and Coupe are offered with a fuel-efficient TDI powerplant and road holding Quattro four wheel drive system, the same technologies which have given them unprecedented success in Le Mans 24-hour race. You will also find a wide choice of optional upholsteries and alloys for ultimate comfort.

When the automaker designed and engineered the Audi TT, they gave it a smooth flowing shape. Consequently, its coefficient drag, a measure of aerodynamic resistance that affects both CO2 emissions and fuel consumption remains surprisingly low. The 2nd gen TT Roadster and TT Coupe have made a name for themselves as design icons, identical to previous models. Awards like 2007 ‘World Car Design of the Year’ document this status. Powerful shoulders, a flat roofline and a broad, brawny foundation – 2 small sportscars have interestingly masculine lines. Their dynamic stance is now even more expressive unlike before. A key factor for excellent driving dynamics and innovative efficiency of TT is its body that features hybrid Audi Space Frame technology. Lightweight aluminum is used at front back to B-pillar with steel panels used at the back.

There are sporty cars and there are sportscars. The 2012 Audi TT falls into the latter segment, but that is really not a bad thing. While most sportscars compromise quite a few aspect of their nature so as to provide high performance, the TT benefits from a philosophy, which highlights the large picture. The small Audi offers more than enough thrills for most of the drivers. Acceleration from 4-cylinder 211-HP engine will be enough for raising your pulse rate, whereas the four wheel drive handling instills confidence in curves. Additionally, it’s an easy car to live with, fusing a ride quality which is comfortable enough for everyday commuting and good fuel economy.

As either a 2-seater convertible or 2+2 coupe, the 2012 Audi TT widens its appeal with its feature-rich content, an impeccably presented interior and distinctive exterior styling. The interior features all the hallmarks, which characterize the luxury class and shoppers, can ratchet it up even more with offered dual tone color schemes. The TT is priced higher unlike you may expect. For about the same value like the new TT, the BMW 1 Series offers superior driver engagement and also benefits from more cabin space. You can also consider the latest pony cars from Detroit (Challenger, Mustang and Camaro) that have gotten astonishingly good the past couple of years. It could be seen as stylish yet a less expensive alternative to more luxurious sportscars including the Mercedes Benz SLK, Porsche Boxster and BMW Z4.

Trims and Features

The 2012 Audi TT is offered as a 2-seater roadster or a 2+2 hatchback coupe, both of which are available in Prestige or Premium Plus trims.

The Premium Plus comes standard with an automatic rear spoiler, 18 inch wheels with summer tires, adaptive automatic xenon headlamps, foglamps, exterior heated mirrors, LED daytime running lamps, an auto dimming mirror, rain sensing wipers, a split folding 50/50 rear seatback, power front 10-way seats, faux suede and leather upholstery, a telescoping and tilt steering wheel, Bluetooth, a 9-speaker CD/MP3 audio with an auxiliary audio jack and satellite radio and automatically controlled climate system. The convertible includes a power wind deflector, a power soft top, a cargo pass through with a removable ski bag and roll hoops.

The Prestige trim gains a MMI dash mounted electronics controller, rear parking sensors, a cabin ambient lighting package, updated leather upholstery, front heated seats, a navigation system with real time traffic, a 6-CD changer and an updated Bose 12-speaker audio system. The heated seats and navigation are also available as an option on Premium Plus. Other features include different wheels, leather upholstery with baseball glove type stitching and adaptive suspension dampers. The S line package includes distinctive exterior trim and elements, 19 inch wheels, a sport steering column, headlamp washers and special upholstery. An iPod interface can be substituted in lieu of 6-CD changer.

Performance and Powerplants

Motivation for the 2012 Audi TT comes from a 4-cylinder turbocharged 2.0 liter engine, which is good for pulsating 211 horsepower with 258 pound feet of torque. The engine is mated to dual clutch 6-speed automated manual gearbox and four-wheel drive system. The transmission works like a conventional automatic or enables manual operation through paddle shifters on steering column or shift lever on center console. In performance testing, the TT accelerated from 0 to 60 miles per hour in the time range of 6.3 seconds. The EPA estimated fuel economy for TT is 31 mpg highway, 23 mpg city and 26 mpg in combined driving.

Safety

Standard safety features on 2012 Audi TT include stability and traction control, antilock disc brakes, front knee airbags and side airbags. In brake testing, the TT Roadster came to a stop in 111 feet from 60 miles per hour.

Interior

Driving Characteristics

The turbocharged 4-cylinder engine of 2012 Audi TT makes more than enough power for a daily driver and proves jut lively enough to have some fun on twisting back roads. Nothing handles like the Audi TT and nothing looks like it either. It is the only vehicle in its segment to be equipped with Quattro four-wheel drive system as standard. On basically any road, it provides superior traction, creating a feeling of confidence. Quattro distributes power between rear and front axles improving its driving dynamics while maintaining optimum control. Constantly assessing grip, Quattro helps to make sure the best possible fusion of handling and traction, irrespective of the road situations.

The 2012 Audi TT not only provides exceptional performance and styling, but also offers 29 MPG highway and 21 MPG city fuel economy. With figures like that, it is no wonder why the TT leads its segment in fuel efficiency. The segment-best fuel economy is thanks in large part to the efficiency and performance increasing Audi FSI or Fuel Stratified Injection. The 2.0T powerplant gains a variation of FSI known as TFSI. TFSI-equipped powerplants take benefit of drastically higher cylinder pressure and compression ratios, thus completely optimizing boost response and atomizing fuel. The beauty of TFSI is that it works at any RPM, generating optimal and responsive power and maximizing efficiency during all driving situations.

Available coupe body style; responsive steering; many available electronic features; quiet ride; capable chassis.

Disadvantages

Complex options structure; smaller rearseat unlike competitors.

Introduction

The Nissan Altima is basically a midsize vehicle produced and introduced by Japanese automobile manufacturer, Nissan, and is arguably a continuation of Nissan Bluebird line that began in 1957. It has historically been more powerful, more luxurious and larger unlike the Nissan Sentra but less so than Nissan Maxima. It is offered in North America as well as other markets and the company markets a related midsize sedan known as Nissan Teana, built on the same FF-L platform used by 2002–2006 Nissan Altima. The term Altima formerly referred to a trim line of Nissan Laurel midsize vehicle marketed in the Caribbean and Central America before 1992. In the year 1993, the automaker discontinued its much criticized Stanza, replacing it with United States-made Altima, while remaining a compact car. The very first Altima was rolled off the assembly line in 1992 as a 1993 model. All Altima models had been built in Smyrna, Tennessee till June 2004, when the company’s Canton, Mississippi, facility started producing additional Altima models to meet high demand.

Like Stanza, the original Altima was based on Nissan Bluebird SSS; however its original styling hailed from the company’s California design studio. Originally, its official name was Stanza Altima that appears on the early owners manuals. 1993 models can be seen with a sticker reading Stanza in small lettering to the left of the ALTIMA emblem on trunk lid. The GLE’s enhancements included a digital headup display that displayed speed in km/h or mph, various warning lights on a unique mirrored patch made into the windshield and turn signals. The 1989 to 1994 240SX and Maxima had similar technology but only showed speed. Other features included adjustable lumbar support on front seats, a coin holder built into the fuse panel cover (1993 and 1994 only), keyless entry with alarm (optional), automatic digital climate control, color matched side mirrors, floor mats, sunroof, cornering lights and six-speaker higher powered cassette/CD stereo that included metal color matched “active speaker” grilles for front door speakers (1993 and 1994 only), a pair of A pillar tweeters all powered by two factory amps mounted beneath the rear deck and 6×9 rear speakers with black metal “active speaker” grilles.

The 4th generation Nissan Altima was introduced in the month of April 2006 at New York Auto Show. It is the first vehicle to use a smaller Nissan D platform with an upgraded rear and new front suspension. The wheelbase is 25 mm shorter unlike the 3rd generation Altima, but cabin space is mostly unchanged. The Murano and Maxima also used this new platform starting with 2009 models. The 2007 Nissan Altima used redesigned versions of powerplants from the 3rd generation model. The 3.5 liter VQ35DE V6 engine generates 201 kW, while the QR25DE 2.5 liter straight-4 churns out 130 kW. A six-speed manual is standard and a continuously variable transmission replaced the conventional automatic as optional transmission.

The 2007 Altima boasts some more recent innovations in the market, including Bluetooth capability for cellphones, a parking camera and standard “push-button start” (Called “Intelligent Key”). The dashboard has a total of nine cupholders, two in the rear armrest, one 20-ounce cup holder in each door, three hidden beneath the center console and larger buttons for easy readability. Several hidden compartments have been added as well as doubling the glove compartment space to 0.46 cubic feet (13 L). For 2008, all Altima models received ABS with electronic brake-force distribution.

The 2002 Nissan Altima has recorded lap times at Virginia International Raceway, logging a time of 3:09.75, the 48th quickest time recorded at the track by driver Matthew Dula. 2010 Altima got the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Highest Front-Impact Crash Safety Rating. While both the midsize 2012 Nissan Altima coupe and Altima sedan are handsome automobiles, that is only part of their appeal. Choose the V6-powered 3.5 SR model, for instance, and you will get both a firmer suspension which makes Altima feel more like an expensive sport sedan and a robust 270 horsepower V6 engine. Even without these updates, the midrange 2.5 S and entry-level 2.5 models provide a decidedly more engaging driving experience unlike you would expect from such practically oriented automobiles.

Inside, the 2012 Nissan Altima sports a comfortable and attractive cabin. The interior can also be fitted out with upscale options like Bluetooth streaming audio, a rearview camera and a hard drive based navigation system with music storage. These and many other high end goodies are combined together in numerous different packages, which means some shoppers will be forced to shell out money for features they don’t really want in order to get those they do. The Altima is one of the better choices in the crowded midsize segment, although many rivals are newer designs. We would also recommend having a look at the roomier Honda Accord, the similarly sporty Mazda 6 and the well-rounded Ford Fusion. Other top choices include the European influenced Volkswagen Passat and the very impressive Hyundai Sonata (and related Kia Optima). While it is impossible to go wrong with any of the above, few provide the combination of everyday practicality and driving enjoyment provided by 2012 Nissan Altima.

Variants, Body Types and Features

The 2012 Nissan Altima is available in sedan and coupe body styles. There are three trims: 2.5 S, 3.5 SR and 2.5.

Standard features and equipments on 2.5 base model include keyless entry, 16-inch steel wheels, cruise control, air-conditioning, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, a trip computer and full power accessories. There are no options available here, not even a stereo, though the cabin is pre-wired with 4 speakers. Opting for the 2.5 S trim will get you keyless ignition and entry, a six-speaker sound system with an auxiliary audio jack and a CD player and 17-inch alloy wheels (coupe only).

Available options include a new Value package that comes with Bluetooth, automatic headlights, a leather wrapped steering wheel with audio controls and an auto dimming rearview mirror. The Special Edition package adds automatic headlights, alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, a leather wrapped steering wheel with audio controls and foglights. Many of the following optional packages serve as needs for more expensive packages, making getting what you want a bit tricky. The Convenience package includes much of the equipment from Value package but also gets a power driver seat, while the Convenience Plus package adds a sunroof, dual zone automatic climate control and mirror mounted turn signal repeaters. The Premium Audio package adds a nine-speaker Bose stereo with an iPod interface and satellite radio and a rearview camera. The Premium package fuses all the options above.

The 2.5 SL package for the sedan adds heated front seats, leather upholstery, rear A/C vents and an auto dimming rearview mirror. On coupe, the SL package is basically known as a Leather package; it lacks rear A/C vents but includes xenon headlamps. Standard equipment on the range topping 3.5 SR model includes 17-inch alloy wheels (18-inch on coupe), a V6 engine, heated side mirrors, the contents of the 2.5 S Convenience package and a sport tuned suspension. The 3.5 SR Sport package gains foglights, xenon headlights, dual-zone climate control and a sunroof, while the 3.5 SR Premium package (available on both sedan and coupe) fuses all the items in 2.5 S coupe’s SL package, Premium Audio package and Premium package.

The Technology package can be added to all 3.5 SR and 2.5 S models and includes a hard drive navigation system with digital music storage, Bluetooth streaming audio capability and real time weather and traffic updates.

What’s Beneath the Hood of 2012 Nissan Altima?

Motivation for the 2.5 models of 2012 Nissan Altima comes from a four-cylinder 2.5 liter engine, which is good for pulsating 175 horsepower with 180 pound feet of torque. The engine is mated to six-speed manual transmission and accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in the time range of 8.5 seconds. The estimated fuel economy for this engine model is 32 mpg highway, 23 mpg city and 27 mpg in combined driving.

Powering the sportier 2012 Nissan Altima 3.5 SR is a 3.5 liter V6 engine with maximum output of 270 horsepower with 258 pound feet of torque. This engine is teamed up with the same transmission like the above and goes from 0 to 60 mph in 7 seconds. The rated fuel economy is 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway and 23 mpg in combined driving.

Safety & Reliability

Standard safety features on 2012 Nissan Altima include stability and traction control, antilock brakes, side curtain airbags which cover both rows and front seat side impact airbags. In brake testing, the Altima came to a stop in about 130 feet from 60 miles per hour, a figure, which is slightly longer than average for the segment.

In government testing, the Altima sedan got an overall safety score of 4 stars with a 4-star rating for frontal impacts and 5 stars for side impacts. The Institute for Highway Safety gave Altima its best possible rating of Good in side crash and frontal offset tests.

Special Features and Cockpit Design

The 2012 Nissan Altima once again highlights attractive appearance, passenger comfort and refined workmanship. It uses soft materials like stylish chrome accents and padded armrests with complementing finishers and fabrics for all interior colors (both leather and cloth appointed). Its instrument panel features a Fine Vision gauge display for precise readability, while the L-shaped flow of instrument panel to the center console adds to a driver oriented cabin feel. The center console includes a triple front cupholder design amongst the many convenient bottle and cup areas (up to nine total, including 20-ounce bottle holders in door panels) and storage compartments. The volume of glove compartment is accommodating and substantial, measuring 0.46 cubic feet.

Along with driver-oriented cockpit, the interior of 2012 Altima is improved with available Premium Audio Package, which includes a Bose AM/FM premium surround sound audio system with 4.3-inch color display, nine speakers, Bluetooth Handsfree Phone System, USB port with iPod connectivity, XM Satellite Radio and MP3/WMA CD-ROM playback. Also available is the advanced Nissan Hard Drive Navigation System with advanced map data including Zagat Survey restaurant guide, speed limit advisories, XM NavWeather and XM NavTraffic, Bluetooth Streaming Audio, 6.5-inch VGA color display, an RCA input for auxiliary audio/video connectivity and DVD player.

Driving Impressions

Which 2012 Nissan Altima model is right for you, depends a lot on your expectations. Its exhilarating driving pleasure comes from a tuned combination of responsive handling, dynamic sound and strong acceleration offered by the proven Nissan front-wheel drive ‘D’ platform and advanced engine designs. Both engines are once again available in 2012. The iconic VQ35 3.5-liter 24-valve DOHC V6 provides a tuned, resonant sound quality and strong acceleration. Both powerplants feature modular engine design, continuously variable valve timing, molybdenum coated lightweight pistons; electronically controlled throttles and microfinished crank journals and cam lobes. The standard dual exhaust system includes dual chrome tipped exhaust finishers and uses large tube diameters.

The independent front suspension of 2012 Altima with shock absorbers and advanced geometry with rebound springs helps offer a comfortable ride and responsive handling. The subframe mounted front suspension makes extensive use of lightweight aluminum components, while the X-type upper cowl structure helps establish front body rigidity for suspension mounting. Its rear multilink independent suspension design separates the rear springs and shock absorbers for minimized friction and the shocks are inline with the center of the rear wheels, offering almost no harshness and excellent damping. Rear and front stabilizer bars are standard. Altima 3.5 SR provides unique spring rates and strut damping and larger diameter stabilizer bars along with P215/55R17 Bridgestone Turanza EL400 tires and 17-inch cast aluminum alloy wheels. So, those who are in the market looking for a sedan or coupe with a truly powerful, satisfying V6 and a strong four-cylinder engine, 2012 Nissan Altima is a wonderful choice.

Well designed and elegant cockpit; excellent front seats.

Disadvantages

All wheel drive is not available; not quite a luxury vehicle in spite of premium pricing; handling falls short of true sport wagons.

Introduction

2011 Volvo V50 is a straightforward wagon extension of the V40 and continues to enhance the company’s reputation as a manufacturer of superb sports wagons. It is a voluptuous and stylish premium wagon, however there are better choices offered. For 2011, the T5 trim replaces the base Volvo V50 2.4i, which is identically equipped, but provides a turbocharged powerplant. A manual transmission and four-wheel drive system are no longer available. Strange as it sounds, designing and developing a V50 Sportswagon began with some rather unexpected matchmaking. Unlikely couples such as form and functionality, power and subtlety and aesthetics and athletics were introduced and with over a little encouragement, these relationships blossomed into something truly distinctive – a vehicle, which leads the way through the beautiful application of untraditional wisdom. It could be said that what you see before you is the result of instincts being followed.

Something happens when you climb into the 2011 Volvo V50 Sportswagon. Almost like you know that you are about to experience something new something special. With a healthy dose of pure fun and more than a hint of sport, this car stylishly, emphatically and simply mirrors the versatility of modern life – your life. So as you pull away, what you have been feeling will suddenly becomes clear. With numerous seating configurations and its extra wide tailgate, the Volvo V50 Sportswagon accommodates friends, cargo and any combination of the two with consummate ease. Thanks to smart ergonomics and design with a human touch, your luggage is always carried securely without sacrificing rear seat passenger comfort and safety. Just load up and let everyone enjoy the ride.

Starting with an electronic immobilizer and theft protected door locks; the 2011 Volvo V50 is a thief’s worst nightmare. When approaching the car at night, you can light up the car’s immediate surroundings and the interior at the touch of a button and with optional keyless drive, just step into your Volvo and drive away without removing the key from your pocket. Looking for peace of mind? You will find it here. Ergonomic design in driver’s environment and seats makes you relaxed and helps maintain your concentration on driving. Inspired by fighter aircraft technology, the IDIS (Intelligent Driver Information System) can help reduce your workload in stressful conditions. For reducing energy loss from wind and roll resistance, the company uses light weight materials, low friction technology and advanced aerodynamic design. Alongside state-of-the-art engine technology, this lowers your CO2 emissions and helps you travel further on fuel. If sporty and stylish looks get your pulse racing, this might be the Volvo for you: The V50 T5 R-Design. Special R-Design upholstery in off-black interior with leather clad steering wheel with aluminum inlay, aluminum door panel inserts and center stack, sports pedals and leather gearshift knob with aluminum inlay. The exterior color of Passion Red with an R-Design color matched roof spoiler, 17-inch Crater silver Bright aluminum wheels and body kit finishes up a very neat package.

The 2010 Volvo V50 was motivated by a 5-cylinder 2.4-liter powerplant, however but it didn’t offer the premium experience you would expect from a Volvo. Now the base V50 shares the turbocharged powerful, inline five-cylinder 2.5 liter engine found in the expensive T5 R-Design trim level. With this update, it is now more affordable than ever to get your hands on a very nice V50, plus the price of speed is more reasonable than before.

One of the strong points of the 2011 Volvo V50 is its spaciousness. A wagon version of S40 sedan of Volvo, it boasts an impressive 63 cubic feet of cargo space with rearseats folded, placing it ahead of crossovers including the Mercedes Benz GLK-Class and Audi Q5 and wagons including the Audi A4 Avant. Fuel economy is another strength with V50 being more frugal at the pump unlike many competitors in the premium crossover and wagon segments. Reflected in both its cabin and its sheet metal is a minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic, which sets the wagon apart from the rest. The thin “floating” center console looks as modern and chic today as it did when V50 was originally introduced in the year 2005. In true Volvo fashion, it provides comfortable and supremely supportive front seats, as well as the latest in safety technology.

Within the small wagon class, there are very few rivals. The Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen is not that quick like the 2011 Volvo V50, however delivers superior fuel economy and comparable interior quality and costs less. The BMW 328i wagon and Audi A4 Avant, in the meantime, cost more than V50, but are more engaging and sportier to drive. The spacious Subaru Outback is another solid pick. On the whole, it combination of comfort and style makes this wagon a respectable choice, but we recommend looking around before making a final decision.

Variants, Body Types and Features

The 2011 Volvo V50 is a compact wagon that offers comfortable seating capacity for five passengers and is available in T5 R-Design and T5 trim levels. Standard features and equipments include heated side mirrors, 17-inch wheels, steering wheel mounted audio controls, cruise control, an eight-way power driver seat with memory settings, an auto dimming rearview mirror, neoprene-like T-Tec upholstery (also called Dalaro), a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, an eight-speaker stereo with auxiliary audio jack, USB/iPod audio interface and CD player and Bluetooth.

Opting for the T5 R-Design will get you a sunroof, aluminum roof rails, a sport tuned suspension, sporty exterior trim, a power passenger seat, special R-Design steering wheel, floor mats, shift knob and gauges and partial leather upholstery. The Preferred package is available for the base T5 and gets a power passenger seat, leather upholstery and a sunroof, while the Climate package is offered with both trim levels, and includes automatic wipers, headlight washers, heated front seats and automatic climate control. The Multimedia package adds a 12-speaker premium surround sound audio system including satellite radio and a navigation system. Standalone options include adaptive bi-xenon headlamps, a blind spot warning system, keyless ignition and entry, integrated rear booster seats, rear park assist and satellite radio.

What’s Beneath the Hood of 2011 Volvo V50?

Motivation for the 2011 Volvo V50 comes from an inline five-cylinder 2.5 liter turbocharged engine, which is good for pulsating 227 horsepower with 236 pound feet of torque. The engine is mated to five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift capability and front wheel drive system that sends power to the front wheels. In performance testing, it accelerated from 0 to 60 miles per hour in the time range of 6.8 seconds. The estimated fuel economy for V50 is 30 mpg highway, 21 mpg city and 24 mpg in combined driving.

Safety & Reliability

Standard safety features on 2011 Volvo V50 include stability and traction control, antilock disc brakes, side curtain airbags, whiplash reducing front head restraints and front side airbags. Optional features include a blind spot warning system and integrated rear booster seats.

Special Features and Cockpit Design

There is only one seating position in the 2011 Volvo V50 – comfortable. Likewise, every item of equipment has one common characteristic – intelligence. This is achieved by only thinking of one thing when the company designed it – you. There is one sure way for transforming a journey into an event – add some good music. If you can do this through a system, which leads the way in audio excellence, all the better. The Premium Sound system of Volvo offers a seriously moving aural experience and gets 12 loudspeakers, a new digital class D amplifier, is fully compatible with your iPod or MP3 player and Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound. With its smart ergonomics and design with a human touch, your luggage is always carried securely without compromising rear seat passenger safety and comfort.

The 2011 Volvo V50’s interior is inspired by Scandinavian product design with emphasis on honest materials, functionality and uncluttered surfaces. Alongside the S40, it was first models of the company to be equipped with a free-floating, ultra-slim centre console with illuminated storage compartment at the back. The iconic centre console is offered in various decor versions including Nordic Light Oak real wood inlay, and the theme that flows smoothly with similar stylish soft curves all the way to the backseat. Storage space between the seats has also been engineered with the help of most renowned hallmark of Scandinavian design tradition, smart functionality. The sliding cover over bigger storage compartments, in which there are also two holders which offer secure support for small and large cups, is complemented by flexible armrest for the driver. With rear seats folded down, the load compartment floor is completely flat.

Driving Impressions

The turbocharged powertrain is a good performer, and it makes the 2011 Volvo V50 a kind of Mazdaspeed3, only with a more refined powerplant and chassis. This engine makes efficient use of every drop of fuel and provides the security of instant response, with its modern management systems and low-friction engine technology. It is a product of forward-thinking design, concern for the world around us and embody the company’s commitment for delivering power with consideration. Probably its irresistibility comes from the fact it exhilarates as effectively as it accelerates. What is beyond doubt is the fact that the application of features such as electro hydraulic steering, a torsionally stiff body and Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) unite adrenaline with safety. Not to mention a rather thrilling fusion of control and performance. Altogether, the V50 remains a good, high value alternative to entry models from BMW, Audi, Mercedes Benz and Lexus.

The mighty sport utility vehicle and 2 luxurious eight-cylinder roadsters distinguish themselves with emotion charged design, effective drive system and breathtakingly dynamic performance. The latest variant of high-performance convertible impresses on several counts: increased output, enhanced driving dynamics and systematic lightweight construction, all fused with 30% reduction in fuel emissions and consumption. With its all-aluminium bodyshell, similar to that of SLS AMG supercar, it has shed 125kgs.

With curb weight of 1845 kgs and output of 537 horsepower or 564HP, the new model boasts perfect ingredients for a sublime driving experience and unparalleled dynamism, which is truly distinctive. A further boost in performance comes courtesy of winning combination: new AMG speed-sensitive sports steering, a further enhanced AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission and the AMG high-performance compound braking system; an enticing combination of extensive standard equipment, high level of safety and stylish design.

The 8-cylinder engine with abbreviation M157 offers a combination of scintillating power delivery and ground-breaking high-tech components for high power output on one hand and remarkably low fuel consumption on the other. Apart from spray-guided direct petrol injection, the powerplant also gets twin turbochargers, all-aluminium crankcase, air-to-water intercooling, four valves per cylinder with camshaft adjustment, ECO start/stop function and generator management. The weight optimized AMG sports exhaust system with 2 sets of chromed twin tailpipes creates a unique soundtrack.

The all-new Audi RS6 Avant has been spotted lapping the Nurburgring circuit in Germany, and appears to be just as powerful like the super estate it replaces. We have spotted RS6 Avant before, and its 20-inch alloy wheels are a giveaway that this is a performance flagship. The RS6 Avant is considered to be a cargo carrying supercar that wears a new front bumper with LED daytime running lamps and gaping air intakes, plus xenon headlights. You will also find LEDs at the back, where there is more muscular bumper and a rooftop spoiler with a pair of massive oval exhausts.

Motivation for the Audi RS6 Avant comes from a twin turbocharged V8 4.0 liter engine that’s also used on Audi S8 and S7 and Bentley Continental GT models, generating 550 horsepower. It will be much lighter, that’s because it is based on the new A6 that is up to 70kg lighter unlike its predecessor A6 and uses more aluminium body panels. The V8 is lighter unlike the V10, so the RS6 Avant will be accelerating from 0 to 60 miles per hour in the time range of 4.4 seconds. A lowered ride height, Quattro all-wheel drive system and adaptive suspension mean it should be just as capable in the corners, too.

On top of its performance attributes, the powerplant will be providing start-stop technology, active engine mounts and cylinder deactivation for isolating vibration from the interior, this means more performance and enhanced efficiency, but let’s hope it has more character unlike other current RS models that have been a little too clinical in their approach. The RS6 Avant will be available for the price of 80,000 Euro and will be marketed in 2013.

Swoopy sheetmetal is not the only thing to be found at 2012 Beijing Auto Show, FAW Hongqi; a Chinese automobile manufacturer launched its L7, a retro inspired luxury saloon. In true mash-up fashion, the luxury sedan looks to be a combination of 1959 CA72 sedan of Hongqi, a Chrysler 300 and a Rolls Royce Phantom. It is the first automobile manufacturing firm in China to develop and design passenger cars. The term Hongqi means red flag that’s interesting for various reasons. China is communist for one, and also due to purchasing a Chinese Rolls Royce is positively a hazardous suggestion.

Motivation for the Chinese L7 luxury sedan comes from a V12 6.0 liter engine, which is good for pulsating 402 horsepower with 428 pound feet of torque. It rides on a platform borrowed from Land Cruiser model of Toyota that’s designed and engineered by FAW-Toyota joint venture in China. The Hongqi L7 is considered to be one of the best Chinese retromobiles at the Beijing Auto Show.

The road racing stimulated Camaro 1LE performance package returns for 2013 with suspension tuning, tires and unique gearing, which makes the model capable of a sub-three minute lap time at Virginia International Raceway’s Grand Course and more than 1G of lateral acceleration. It is available on Camaro SS coupe models featuring manual transmissions. Mr. Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer stated that the all-new 2013 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE fuses best elements of ZL1 and SS to take road racing performance to a complete new level. It starts under $40,000 making the Camaro 1LE one of the most capable and most affordable track day cars available by any manufacturer.

All 2013 Chevrolet Camaro SS models including 1LE will be equipped with an available dual mode exhaust system and standard electric power variable effort steering. Both features were originally found on ZL1. In addition, the 2013 Camaro SS, ZL1 and LT models are offered with the company’s color touch radio with MyLink infotainment system. Mr. John Fitzpatrick, Camaro marketing manager said that with 2013 model year, the Camaro provides something for almost every driver, such as: the all-new, 580-HP supercharged ZL1 cabriolet; the 323-HP, 30 mpg 2LS; the new 1LE for amateur track days and the COPO Camaro for drag-racing. They expect the range of choices, and improvements for 2013 will help Camaro remain one of the most popular sportscars of America.

Motivation for the 2013 Chevrolet Camaro comes from a 6.2 liter LS3 V8 engine, which is good for pulsating 426 horsepower with 420 pound feet of torque. The engine is mated to six-speed manual transmission. The Camaro 1LE features an exclusive Tremec TR6060-MM6, while the Camaro SS features a Tremec TR6060-M10 for all-around performance. Combined with numerically higher 3.91 final-drive ratio, the transmission’s close ratio gearing is tuned for road racing performance. The 1LE also features exclusive, monotube rear dampers rather than twin-tube dampers on SS models.

Other changes for optimizing the 1LE include Higher capacity rear-axle half shafts to cope with increased levels of traction; larger, 27-mm solid front stabilizer bar and 28-mm solid rear stabilizer bar for enhanced body control; ZL1-based 20 x 10-inch front and 20 x 11-inch aluminum wheels; Strut tower brace for improved steering feel and response; ZL1 wheel bearings, toe links and rear shock mounts for enhanced on-track performance; 285/35ZR20 Goodyear Eagle Supercar G:2 tires front and rear (identical to the front tires for ZL1) and ZL1 high-capacity fuel pump and additional fuel pickups for enhanced fuel delivery during high-cornering.

The company’s color touch radio with MyLink infotainment is offered on all 2013 Camaro SS, ZL1 and LT models. The color touch radio with seven-inch touchscreen can also be paired with available in-dash GPS navigation system, a first for the Camaro. Both features provide the customers a higher level of customized infotainment options and in-vehicle wireless connectivity, while building on the security and safety of OnStar. It flawlessly incorporates online services including Stitcher SmartRadio and Pandora internet radio using touchscreen controls and hands-free voice through Bluetooth enabled phones.
