No more being the funny man, no more ripping people in your blog, no more laughing at Richard Jefferson when he gets traded to Milwaukee. No more beautiful poetry like: “Roses are red, violets are blue, and … I can’t remember the rest.” You’re not gonna be yourself anymore. In a word, you’ll be BO-RING! Who’s gonna shower in their uniform at halftime? What’ll happen to the Arenas Express Card? Who’s gonna sleep at the gym? Who’s gonna go on strike against his girlfriend? Who’s gonna out-shoot his teammate with one hand? Get ready to be sad. From the mouth of the wonderful himself:

“I do all the little things I do out there [and that] is going come to a halt, I just need to cut out some of the foolishness I do.”

Try all you want Arenas, but you can’t take the quirk out of the man. This is just another one of your schizophrenic comments. I do like Gil’s dedication though. We’re talking about a Wizards team that has 3 All-Stars, and should be banging on the front door of Eastern Conference. Maybe his new MO will take Washington where it belongs. Either way, since Captain Quirk probably won’t be yelling Hibachi! anymore, it’s time for a new nickname. The top 5 suggestions in the comments will receive a Schick Quattro Titanium Trimmer. Contest open till 11:59 pm EST, Sunday, July 27.

The headlines will read CANADA COMES BACK FROM 18-POINT DEFICIT TO REACH QUARTER-FINAL, but they did it playing an absolutely horrendous game. I’m pretty angry I woke up at 6am EST to watch that brand of basketball. A repeat of that performance will not beat the Croatians in the next round. Rowan Barrett and Jermaine Anderson continuously bailed out the Canadians’ broken offensive sets. The Koreans were basically able to shut down the red and white until either a foul call, or until one of those two gunners created a shot on their own.

Canada jacked up bad attempt after bad attempt, but they also jacked up the intensity in the 2nd half, leading to a total of 18 offensive boards and a +19 in rebounds overall. The boards were their savior in this one, but that is highly unlikely to happen against the Croats. They will not be able to muscle around an experienced Croatian squad that overcame a 17-point deficit of their own today against Puerto Rico. Canada will need to be crisp and fluid on offense and they gave no indication of that as they bruised the Koreans. I imagine I’ll be opening my eyes to a brutal beating on Friday. And, hey, Carl English, you’re not being scouted any more, stop shooting and make the right play. OK, I’m done.

LA. Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it. If Los Angeles can swing Lamar Odom for Ron Artest and Kenny Thomas’s contract, they should do it in a heartbeat. Ron Ron has gone a little nuts the past couple weeks, as he always does, but this was a far more mature temper tantrum. Artest is older, wiser, and ready to contribute to a championship team. As far as I’m concerned, Ron Ron’s head is on pretty straight. Throw him in with the respected Phil Jackson and a player he would obviously give his left arm to play with in Kobe Bryant, and that spells S-C-A-R-Y.

This interview was conducted a couple months ago and may have had a hand in all the Artest to LA talk. I just think this is more about a guy wanting to be in a winning situation, and less about bitching for the sake of bitching.

I was surfing the web, trying to find out a little more about Jerryd Bayless. I wanted to know why the kid slipped so low, getting snatched by the Pacers at 11 and immediately getting shipped to the Blazers. I know this is just a short YouTube clip, but you can tell, from scalp to sneakers, he’s a Kevin Pritchard kinda guy. Bayless is well spoken, seems grounded, and makes me feel like he sweats character.

It sort of makes me sick. Portland continues to add both incredible people and incredible athletes. I can’t help but feel Pritchard pulled the wool over the eyes of other GMs. They did send a character guy in Jarret Jack to Indiana, but character means nothing if you can’t play. And, not that Jack is a stiff, but Bayless seems to offer more. He seems to totally compliment Brandon Roy in that back court, and vice versa.

I’m swayed as to how good this Bayless deal is because of this ridiculousroster. We’re all at the feet of Pritchard as he compiles this masterpiece. Are we all giving him too much cred? Don’t think so. This offseason has been great for the club formerly known as the Jail Blazers. (see: the signing of the remarkably humble Rudy Fernandez).

Talent + Character = Frightening

I don’t smile very often. I mean, what’s the point. Your mouth is just gonna come back down to it’s normal position anyways. But this, a little comment from Knicks Head Coach Mike D’Antoni, made me lift my lips:

D’Antoni also said he was “extremely pumped up” about the potential of Wilson Chandler, the Knicks’ first-round pick in 2007. “He’s got a lot of skills…”

So, he’s excited to see the more talented people on his roster play? Instead of giving minutes to an overweight Quentin Richardson or an even more overweight Eddy Curry, we might see some skill on the floor? Say what you will about D’Antoni, but he’s going to put the most skillful players on that Garden wood. He’s going to do exactly what every fan and media member was begging Isiah to do last season. Now, we’ll see what kind of talent this roster has. New York deserves that and I like it too. No matter how good or bad this team is, we’re forced to hear a billion stories re: the Knicks. At least this way, there will be some talk about good players making good plays.

The Basketball Jones is giving away a pair of Adidas basketball shoes to the person who can put together the longest streak of picks during the postseason. The best streak, shared by three, is three. And now, the series long tiebreaker begins. Each member of the threesome will pick the winner of each game, and guess how many points they’ll win by. The person with the smallest difference of points, added over the course of the series, will win the shoes. Also, Baron sits at 1 correct pick and will continue his streak. If he passes the big 3, he’ll make the tiebreaker void. He’ll also participate in the tiebreaker just in case there’s a 4-way tie (we didn’t plan this well, did we?):

No, you can’t afford them, although, they are pretty sweet. If I bled green, I could, just maybe, go loony for 5 minutes and order me a set of these thousand dollar shoes ($1017.00). Yes, you saw that right. The 17 extra smacks represent Boston’s push for Championship #17. Despite the price, you know there are some “out-there” Celtic fans who are beyond geeked for these Finals. There will only be 8 of these produced for each game. Some rare touches in these Adidas: the KG profile, the Larry O’Brien, the embroidered game number.

Now, how long has KG been practicing in these bad boys? Are they the exact same mold as his regular Adidas kicks? Will they affect his play? This is what the hardcores want to know.
