/>
Today, there are several radio stations around the world playing Christian music for everyone to enjoy. There are those who play Christian music 24 in major markets across America. Based on the latest estimates, there are more than 1,500 Christian radio stations in the United States. In view of the huge offer of stations serving the Christian community, spectators can expect a few changes in the programming of each station, as each tent to capture their share of the target audience.

Christian music radio stations are generally classified as traditional and commercial.

Traditionally, Christian radio stations programs focus to Christian messages in their music. The music is limited to the Gospel or worship, and the main goal is to strengthen the faith of the listeners and to attract non-believers by combining the power of the words and the music of God. As most traditional radio stations is held or sponsored by Christian organizations, the concern of the profit not is not clear. Even traditional radio stations conduct and support events in their Department as a way to reach out to their audience. Some radio stations involved new policies or talk shows in their programs to keep more interesting.

Commercial Christian music radio stations are more selective in the type of Christian music they play. They decide to play the music of the most popular Christian artists to attract more advertisers. They tend to ignore the new artists who cannot appeal to their listeners. The increase in advertising led to a higher value of the market for the station and the superior earnings growth. These radio stations play all sorts of current Christian music, including folk, country, alternative, pop, rock and roll, punk, hip hop / rap or heavy metal.

If you are a traditional or a Christian music listener, always there is a radio station that will satisfy your listening needs.

Christian music provides detailed information on Christian music, Christian music lyrics, download Christian music, Christian Sheet Music and more. The duo performed together for only two years but in that short time made a lasting impression on millions of contemporary Christian music fans with their musical style typifying hope and spiritual redemption, in a fusion of rock, contemporary pop and American folk music.

Ben Kolarcik is a multi-talented self taught musician from Louisville, KY. His early music was heavily influenced by the Christian schools he attended. Justin Unger was born and raised in Phoenix Arizona and like Kolarcik, had strong exposure to Christian music during his formative years. Unger began to play the piano by the age of 9 and seven years later began to write musical pieces for his grandfather, a pastor in their local church. Soon after, Unger formed and became lead vocalist of a Christian band which he named Emmaus.

Kolarcik and Unger first met while in their early twenties in 2002, both separately signed up as solo artists under the Word Records Label; and quickly formed an inseparable bond. Following release of their eponymous debut album Across the Sky in 2003, the duo began to tour extensively throughout the United States and internationally, regularly touring with well known contemporary Christian musicians including Avalon, Mercy Me, Michael W. Smith and other popular artists. In 2004, a year following the release of their debut album, Across The Sky received a Dove Award nomination for New Artist of the Year.

Surprisingly, despite their rapid rise and success, in 2005, both Kolarcik and Unger decided to disband and pursue their careers separately, a mere 2 years following the formation of the duo. Today, Unger lives in Prescott, Arizona with his family and performs as music minister at his local church, The Heights. He still spend much of his time writing songs and in 2007 released a solo CD. Ben Kolarcik continues to both write and compose Christian songs and now lives in Los Angeles, California with his wife and son. Like Unger, Kolarcik actively pursues his musical career and continues to perform throughout the country.

During their short time together, the duet were driven by a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of others and succeeded to a large extent. Even though their union has was one of the shortest among Christian artists, in the two years of their existence, Kolarcik and Unger made Across The Sky a household name among Christian pop fans, bringing a unique and refreshing new dimension to the contemporary Christian music scene. Evidently, their early disbandment has left a void that will be hard to fill.

There are great contemporary Christian lyrics online. Despite their popularity, there are some groups and musicians who are reluctant to make their music labelled as "Christian".

Christian music has always received a somewhat negative connotation in traditional music fans. For some people, it is nothing more than music to convert people to Christianity.

However, the truth is that there are a lot of Christian musicians out there that produce a public music. They do not necessarily create content filled songs "Christian", but nonetheless, they are firm believers in Christ.

On the other hand, there are also musicians who choose to submit their love for Christ through the blatant Christian songs. You will find musicians, creating songs like these in various genres of music. There are pop singers who sing their love for Christ.

Rock musicians, who, despite the opposition of some fundamental believers, continue to praise the Lord through their strong songs. And then there are country crooners who no doubt have their faith with their country roots in music.

The most obvious indicator for most people, to determine if a group, musician or their song is inspired by Christian would be the words. Lyrics often tell the experiences or thoughts of the author and often they say much about what is in the mind of the person or of the singing act or run it.

One of the lesser known genera in country music is Gospel country or otherwise known as the Christian country music. He is identified as any song that contains words that express a wholly or partially the singer or writer Christian faith and beliefs.

While the type of music may vary a little, it is an alternative to regular country music you hear on public radio. Christian music of the country is derived or a subgenus of Country music and Gospel music.

The origins of this type of music has come to a mixture of mountain music, cowboy, Sung music of planting from the South. It is this mixture of music Gospel is the result of. Then slowly incorporated in the singers from the country and enough music little Christian country music was born.

These songs often focus on the problems that Christian life or even their struggles in the search for God. Even those who would not be Church-viewers or even Christians, may be spreading and uplifting songs.

For musicians of Christian countries, this type of music has become an excellent way to evangelize and to know the Lord. In fact, many churches have incorporated music as some of their activities and events.

There is no doubt that this type of music is a great way to introduce someone to the Lord. Sometimes, a Christian music and country song might be what it takes to help a person to take a step to know Christ.

You can get Christian music country 15% off Christian Book Store.

Don't try to kill body, you need to read this for your good health

Contemporary Christian Music 2000-2007 - By The Numbers

Contemporary Christian music charts in the 1980's were dominated by the likes of Sandi Patti, Amy Grant, Twila Paris and the Imperials. In the 1990's, Point Of Grace, DC Talk, Steven Curtis Chapman and Michael W. Smith led the way. But what about this decade? A look at the chart data reveals an interesting landscape in contemporary Christian music from the years 2000 to 2007. The following information was compiled from the CCM Update and Radio & Records Christian AC airplay charts:

MercyMe, Steven Curtis Chapman, Third Day, and Mark Schultz have all charted seven number one songs so far this decade. Avalon and Casting Crowns are right behind with six number one songs apiece. "East To West", the latest release by Casting Crowns looks to be a lock to reach the summit, thus moving them into a 5-way tie at the top. Finally, Jeremy Camp, Chris Tomlin, Rachel Lampa, and the Newsboys round out the top ten with four number ones each.

When analyzing the number of weeks spent in the top spot, Casting Crowns is currently on top with 48 weeks notched in the top spot so far this decade. MercyMe is second with 39 weeks at number one. "Bring The Rain" is currently holding down the top spot adding to their total each week. Next in line is Jeremy Camp with 33 weeks at number one. Steven Curtis Chapman has spent 32 weeks in the top spot and may soon add to the total with "Miracle Of The Moment". Rounding out the top ten are Third Day (28 weeks), Mark Schultz (25 weeks), Chris Tomlin (22 weeks), Avalon (17 weeks), Newsboys (12 weeks), and Rachel Lampa (8 weeks).

Jeremy Camp has scored the longest running number one song so far this decade with "Take You Back". It spent a remarkable 15 weeks at number one back in the spring of 2005. Chris Tomlin's "Made To Worship" topped the charts for 14 weeks last fall. By 1968 the drug branch of hippie culture had separated from the peace and love branch and that branch itself split into secular and Jesus people wings.

Church kids had been singing "camp songs" since the 1940s, either acapella or accompanied by acoustic guitar. With the rise of new folk music in the early 1960s, leaders of church youth and camp programs capitalized on this cultural phenomenon by structuring youth programs that included 20-30 minutes of singing of Christian choruses. The most effective youth ministers started services with fast songs and gradually slowed down the rhythm as the song lyrics moved, in relationship to Christ, from praise to devotion and holy living. But what went on in the youth services was not typical of the "adult" worship services. At successful churches, the adult service began with an organ prelude, continued with a 40-60 voice choir singing a hymnal "praise" composition, continued with 20 minutes of congregational singing of doctrinally-rich Christian hymns from the 1700-1800s, and ended with a stirring Bible message preached by a good pulpiteer. The doxology was often sung and usually some song of recession was played after the pastor pronounced the benediction and dismissed the adult congregation.

The Cultural Position of the Evangelical Church in 1970

At a typical evangelical mid-western church in the late 1960s, if a kid with long-hair responded to the message invitation, the first thing the deacons did was cut off his offending locks. What was it about long hair on a man which so offended? The church and conservative American politics were blended together in a cultural message that equated Christian holiness in dress and culture with early 1950's American clothing and grooming style. Furthermore, I Corinthians 11:14 stated, "Doth not even nature itself teach you that, if a man have long hair, it is a dishonor to him.?" Seizing on apparent New Testament support for conservative American dress, church leaders initially denounced hippie dress, style, and music, even that of the sincere, but un-churched, Jesus people.

But this backfired. By 1969 evangelical church pastors realized that the youth ministries of their churches had been impacted by the Jesus movement outside the church. Church teenagers saw what appeared to be more love and acceptance among long-haired iconoclasts outside the church than among staid congregants within the church. Church emphasis on maintaining the superficial values of dress, style, and traditional Christian hymnal music seemed at odds with the emphasis of Jesus people on sincerity and devotion of the heart as the primary Christian concern.

The Evangelical Solution

The most thoughtful pastors and Christian leaders knew something had to be done. The static Christian church was in crisis. The less thoughtful pounded the pulpit and shouted, "'As for me and my house...' we will remain where Jesus stood," confusing status quo American culture with Biblical principles.

What did the evangelical church do to stop the flight of Christian youth and evangelize the un-churched in the early 1970's? They took the historic Christian youth program and moved it from the church camp and an audience of teenagers to the 11:00 am Sunday adult worship service. The choir was disbanded, vocal soloists were condemned as self-glorifying, the organ and grand piano were pushed to the side and teenage musical guitar players replaced the classically trained pianist. The adult congregation began singing youth choruses all the time! The 11:00 am Sunday adult worship service began to resemble a service at a teenage Christian youth camp in the early 1960s. That's what happened!

The Place of Contemporary Worship Music in the Church

If your church has a contemporary worship service using a rock band singing rock anthems and choruses as worship staples, where do we go from here? Consider the following:

Over 30 years have pasted since the church adopted contemporary Christian music as standard Sunday adult music. At least three new generations of children have been introduced into the church since then. These new generations know nothing of the cultural struggles of the 60s-70s. Most of today's young adults who attend church have never heard a traditional hymn sung by a 60 voice choir (except at Christmas) and they've never seen a hymnal. Just as fashion style-setters and Disney movie producers re-release something from the past every 7-10 years, the evangelical Christian church is now justified in deviating from a musical standard set 30 years ago in response to a specific cultural challenge that is long gone.
The original use of Christian choruses in church was based on an evangelical program for church and un-churched youth. Like the 11:00 am adult church service, if the church offered an AM Sunday youth service, the attending kids sang the upbeat songs from the hymnal. Choruses were used primarily at evangelistic children's services outside the church. Why not move the Christian rock band from supporting adult worship at 11:00 am to outside the church, as a way to gather a crowd in public parks or at evangelistic events? This use of rock music would be consistent with historic Christian missionary activities and would actually make the thin Christian messages supplied by the lyrics serve as an introductory theological thought to a non-christian audience. Of course, evangelism means giving the audience gathered for the music a brief message from the Bible designed to speak to the hearts of those seeking forgiveness of sin and a new life in Christ. The fact that a church sponsored the concert would not be lost on those looking for community.
Two music legalisms have afflicted the church for the last 30 years: contemporary versus traditional Christian music. Some felt that anything that was not contemporary was unchristian. Why? Because it had a formalistic scent tinged with the dusty flavor of history. Contemporary meant unconnected to church history. Traditionalists either railed against compromise or ignored non-traditional musical trends. Both streams are no longer convincing. The Sunday AM service is free to use any music, played well by accomplished musicians who want to glorify God (not themselves) on any instrument, sung by individuals, choirs, quartets, or congregation in any musical style. It's music, not theology! It's about style and taste, it's not about supralapsarianism.

If every doctrinal argument raised in the past to condemn Christian rock were proved true, it doesn't matter. The church either embraced youth culture and made it the central program of church worship or rejected it. That is a fact of history!

Don't congratulate yourself if your church never brought the rock band onto the Sunday morning platform and you are still singing out of hymnals, as your denomination did in 1960. If the contemporary evangelical church reaches into the back of its closet and retrieves a piece of antique culture (a hymn) for modern use, traditionalists should not rejoice that hymnal music has returned to vogue..

The Way Forward

The evangel of the Christian faith remains the same in any age. However, in our post-modern, post-christian culture, churches need a new path forward in the twin goals of making disciples and growing Christians in the New Testament life. The key questions to answer are as follows:

How do we present a post-christian world culture with the always relevant call of Jesus Christ? This is evangelism.
How do we teach those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour to live for Him as their Lord and Master? This is holiness.

Both evangelical and holy living messages must be a part of the total Christian word spoken to the modern world. Every local church has a personality. Every church has a pastor and Christian leadership who should connect with the twin goals listed above and find means to accomplish them in their own Jerusalem, Samaria, and to uttermost parts of the earth. Those who share similar philosophies of ministry can associate in denominations. The key ingredient in musical choice is motive, not style and taste. Any style of music can glorify God, what matters is the hearts of the players and the listening audience.

Why not use various music styles evangelistically? The old joke applies here: What do you call ten banjos at the bottom of the ocean? Answer: A good start! Every church music director has seen that style and taste in music varies greatly among church people. So, have a "Country and Western" Sunday, a "Classical" Sunday or a "Choir" Sunday and use style and musical taste as a way to get folk under the sound of Gospel preaching. Why exclude people by banishing their musical taste and style from your church's music program? Why drive people away or silence their praise by insisting that the same rock choruses be sung every other week played by a 3-guitar electric band? Why not have some Sundays when there is no music at all! Or some Sundays when all music is vocal and musical instruments of any kind are not played?

This is the essence of a post-christian presentation of the Gospel message. Christianity should no longer be identified by anything as superficial as musical style. We play every kind of music on every instrument, only asking that it glorify God. We can dress in any color using any fabric, we only ask it be modest. We do not have to attend church dressed in our "Sunday Best", we can come as we are. If your church encougrages casual dress, why not have a Sunday where everyone is encouraged to dress in suits and ties as a special way, that day, to honor God?

Summary

Worship leaders, be advised: 1968 James Taylor-esque soft rock is no longer "contemporary" pop music. Christian worship cannot be "contemporary" with the music of the world. You might get away with "Christian rap" in a black church (probably not), but you won't in a white, suburban church. The church is not about mimicking the hottest musical sensation or the latest pop musical style. The church is about Christ, eternal life, forgiveness of sins, holy living, and evangelizing the lost. Music is only one channel through which any of these things can be advanced. Having only one style of music in church "traditional" or "contemporary" limits your audience for the Gospel. Do something with your music program, don't just stand in place.

The Apostle Paul said, when speaking of his own position regarding cultural issues and the church, "I also please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved." 1 Cor 10:33. I don't like banjo music, you say. Then be sure to have a bluegrass music sunday. After the banjo pickers re-case their instruments, preach the Gospel. You my be surprised what God will do.

http://timeoftheheathen.blogspot.com/

Don't try to kill body, you need to read this for your good health

Tell the world of his love - the most popular bands of Christian never

Christianity is the largest religion in the world for many different reasons. One of the reasons is that the promise of salvation is very welcoming for many of his followers. Despite the absurdity of this world and all its problems, people still have the grace of God and the promise of the resurrection in haste. Another reason could be the incredible art that inspired this great religion, which is evident in almost all Renaissance and Baroque piece that you see. And the third reason would most certainly because of the beautiful music.

The Christianity and Jesus Christ inspired the best music of all time. Bach and Mozart, a new race took on the mantle of the worship of the Holy Trinity with their music. It's major Christian bands of our time. Some examples of them:

-Switchfoot: this San Diego alternative rock group has taken the world of music by the late storm with their catchy melodies single race and Christian feelings. They reached the status of general public with a bang with their original band 'A Walk to Remember' 2002. Their album entitled "Great disappointment" was released shortly after much to the delight of fans from around the world.
-Sixpence None The Richer: that on this world does not recall the foudroyant, known as 'Kiss Me' success that propelled the group to the role? With their heritage of Nashville and a name inspired by the Lewis CS immortal, it appears very little in intelligent pop music that this group cannot do. That the Grammy nominated group proved to be just their success they and Christian music are here to stay.
-As I Lay Dying: another native group of San Diego, but this time with a much heavier sound is the metalcore Group As I Lay Dying. They overcame rock charts with their single "An Ocean Between Us" and do not seem to stop anytime soon. The unique combination of melody and cumbersome makes a final favorite of the band.

These are only a few of the many bands who brought fame to the Christian religion with their unique brand of music image. Didn't Christian rock die a couple of years ago, you ask? Christian rock music is growing faster than ever before with Daily News of Christian Rock Music, new artists & albums streaming across the Internet and pumping the airways continuously every day. So where did this God Rock come from? I mean this is new right?

This type of rock music wasn't around 20 years ago, was it? Well I didn't think so until recently, the reality is Christian music or should I say Christian rock music has been around apparently from the dawn of creation! So why seeing it today all the time? Where were they hiding and what happened to the voice of damnation for those participating in anything other than a church hymn or Sunday school choir? Well the chastity belt of today's Christian rock is alive and well. There are many religious organizations who oppose this form of music, I will talk more about this opposition later.

Most Christians are in favor of this "movement" feeling that Christian rock music is another way to reach people with the importance of the Christian faith. So why the controversy?, what is so different about Non-Christian rock music in comparison to Christian rock? Many have asked this question and instead of quoting Mr. Bob Dylan "the answer is blowing in the wind", I thought I would look into this more closely and check out the facts and see why there is so much "opposition" to the sounds of "thumping grace". After reviewing many rock & heavy metal music bands and performances and then compared them to their Christian counterparts, I did see differences but not many! The stage performance was very similar with the exception of Non-Christian heavy metal revealing more of a dark or sadistic side at times in general there was little if any change in production or presentation from Christian rock to standard or Non-Christian music. The only real difference I could find was the lyrical content, with Christian rock music quoting words from the Bible and preaching family values.

So why was Christian rock music inward for so many years, seemingly hiding in the shadows from more conservative members of the Christian community? Well apparently they weren't seeking refuge in some dark cave at all, it's just that I like many people didn't even know they were around back then! Good old fashioned Christian rock bands like Petra, Stryper, Bloodgood, Whitecross and Tourniquet have been rocking Christians and secular music lovers alike for generations.

The voice of rock damnation is still screaming louder than ever in some Christian circles although seemingly falling on deaf ears of a Christian Rocker community that grows bigger every day. Who opposes this Christian liberation? Who else but other Christians! It seems some segments of who have not advanced to modern day sounds are Bible bashing these Christian rock music enthusiasts with eternal consequences for their "lack of understanding". The most dramatic example I came across was the seventh day adventist (SDA) church who proclaim that Christian rock music is quote "Devil music". The SDA church preach that all rock music has the "beat of the devil" borrowed from primitive heathen rituals, beating in time with the body's "natural rhythms". I found it hard to understand that anyone could think this way at first, but indeed it is true and they are very serious about stamping out any and all rock music, or anything for that matter that has a drum beat!

Sam J Wilkinson works as a volunteer webmaster of the Christian Rock Music Site [http://www.ColdandUgly.net], which has the latest information about the Christian Rock industry, as well as other Christian music scene news & events.

Don't try to kill body, you need to read this for your good health

The sounds of Christianity, the music of life

How many of us know a few Christian sounds, the music of prayer and songs to lift the heart, the most I would say. But how many of us take the time to really listen to take advantage of the Gospel or contemporary Christian sounds which are all around us.

Today, the society is changing, the pace of life is so fast that we can just take the time for ourselves and for giving us the music that is all around us. The music of life, which can be Gospel, contemporary, rock, soul, Jazz, Pop, even has a message if we want to hear. The style of music we listen too may be different for each of us, but the message remains the same, that our heart of lifting to the sky and sing.

Christian music has changed over time to bring back us some great songs from some great artist over the decades. Soul and gospel have their roots in the church music, a reggae song and sounds are almost directly from the bible, and therefore is the style of music to listen to us.

In fact, of the description of all Christian sounds are gaining in popularity, and is therefore the number of styles available to those who are interested in listening. ROM Gospel to Rock, soul, rap, Jazz, classical, all have a mode of heart lifting and, in turn clarification of the soul to bring joy to our lives.

Then, where we begin to seek our own specific kind? You have an open mind? Are you ready to experiment with different styles? Do you know even what you like if you have not tried different styles? This article examines the different sounds of the Christianity of the language spoken in the music that accompanies the word.

Contemporary music, by its nature, suggests a popular movement and can cover all areas and styles. This can be times of original songs chorus to shout the word, as they wish in their hearts of rock bands. In short, almost any style of music, that you can think of can be used to praise our Lord.

The speed of life now also means that we can listen to our music at any time. On how to work in the car, on the bus via MP3 or iPod to work through the stereo that we do our work to help lift the State of mind and to make our day more enjoyable.

There is now also the availability of audio books so that we can listen to our stories favorite Christian anywhere without interruption or someone looking over our shoulder to what we read. Our faith helps us through the day, the trials and tribulations of daily life. With the technology we have today we can now take our faith with us in the music that we listen, the stories we can listen as we work and the knowledge that he is still with us.

The growth of the Christian and Christian audio books music becomes stronger as each generation acknowledges and accepts the word of God. Groups such as the Black eyed peas, Mary Mary, had two hits of mass with songs based on praising the Lord and identified the need to love your neighbour.

Is more Christian sounds are relegated to a niche, more people are coming out of the closet every day and accept that there is a better way, and we can see in the world around us if we are willing to look at.

Thus, if your spirit takes you to the Hip Hop Gospel, Rock Reggae, books audio or or the written word, choose in your kind and lift your heart through the day by keeping your faith with you and worship you get through your day.

This article gives a very brief view in music and the sounds of Christianity. Over the years, I have found only a handful of quality resources on the subject. CCM has really taken off in popularity over the last 10 years. But what about all the great music from the early 1970's through the mid-1990's? As more and more people enjoy the likes of Jeremy Camp, Relient K, and Casting Crowns, a growing crowd of people will want to know the history of the movement.

This has prompted me to launch a new website that seeks to bring back the classics by analyzing the airplay and sales charts from 1978 to present. One might call it an objective overview of the past. What were the top ten songs of 1979? Who had the number one album of the 1990's? Who were the top 100 artists of the 1980's? (By the way, DeGarmo & Key came in at #18). The site is still in its infancy stages and begins as a part-time endeavor. However, I would love to see it grow into a full-time ministry of bringing Christian classics (and ultimately, the gospel) to the masses. I'm a stats guy, so I love digging through old charts and tabulating the various rankings. In fact, I am currently publishing a weekly Christian Top 40 chart on the website that combines a variety of airplay and sales charts into one composite chart.

Just today I was listening to some old cassettes and enjoyed "Shotgun Angel" by Daniel Amos, "Did I Forget To Say?" by Tim Miner, and "Watercolor Ponies" by Wayne Watson. I have to admit, I hadn't heard the Wayne Watson classic for quite some time and it moved me. Now that my kids are growing up, the song touches me in a very different way than it did when it first came out.

All this said, I invite you to check out the website and enjoy the journey with me.

Nate Ohman has been a longtime fan of Christian music and statistics. He has combined the two on his website http://www.topchristianhits.org He currently resides in West Michigan with his wife and two children.

Don't try to kill body, you need to read this for your good health

Brenda Lee Gospel Duets With Treasured Friends Contemporary Christian Music CD Review

Not sure what's happening with me on this one, but it seems like the more I listen to it, the better Gospel Duets With Treasured Friends gets. Gospel Duets With Treasured Friends put simply is one of Brenda Lee's best CDs to date.

Refreshingly, this was one of those CDs I was able to just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

These days it's a very rare CD on which every single song is good or better than the one before it. This CD is certainly one of those rare CDs.

Overall Gospel Duets With Treasured Friends is an outstanding release. What I call must have music. I give it two thumbs up and is most definitely a worthy addition to any Contemporary Christian Music collection. Truly an outstanding Contemporary Christian Music CD. One of those that is completely void of any wasted time, as each track is simply superb.

While the entire CD is outstanding the truly standout tunes are track 2 - Have A Little Talk With Jesus, track 5 - Jesus Loves Me, and track 10 - Where Could I Go But To The Lord.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 8 - This Little Light Of Mine. But tonight, as I was driving my daughter home from school, I was listening to a Christian group that she introduced me to that sounded anything but like what I'm used to hearing. Yes, we've come a long way.

In case you're wondering, the group is Relient K. I don't know if you've ever heard of them but they kind of remind me of Wheezer complete with the power pop fuzz guitars, breakneck beat and tinny vocals. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, but this isn't anything like the Christian music that I grew up with. And the Christmas album my daughter played really rocked. It was...different.

And all this got me thinking. This stuff is being played on Christian radio stations. There was a time when loud guitars and drums was anything BUT Christian. You couldn't get a Christian station to play this stuff if you put a gun to the program director's head. So what happened? How did this rock and roll become acceptable?

Well, in my opinion, it's simply a reflection of the changing times. It seems we've become more tolerant of a lot of things these days, not just with music. TV shows are using words that, back in the 50s and 60s you would have never heard. What was an R rated movie back in the 70s is now PG 13 and can been shown on TV. Patton is a perfect example of this. In fact, they even changed the rating of the movie to PG 13 for TV viewing. And that's with NOTHING cut out.

If you turn on the radio in my neck of the woods, you'll find Star 99.1 was the Christian contemporary station of choice. Well, it's the only one actually. And if you listen long enough, you'll almost believe that it's anything but a Christian station, even though they do portray themselves as family friendly. And in a way, maybe they are. At least there are no obscene lyrics in any of the songs. But I have to wonder what my grandparents would have thought had they turned on Star 99.1 today and listened to what they were playing.

Is this a glimpse of things to come? Will standards be lowered even more? I don't want to turn this into a religious debate but like I said...Christian music isn't what it used to be.

Not saying that's a bad thing either.

To YOUR Musical Enjoyment.

Steven Wagenheim

Don't try to kill body, you need to read this for your good health

Enhance Your Christian Music Ministry - Five Vital Tips

In this article my desire is that you will get greater insight and have a fuller more fulfilling worship experience. I am going to talk about five tips that will enhance your Christian music ministry. These five tips are basic to understanding the worship experience. What I desire to achieve with this article is to examine five distinctive fundamentals in worship.

Here are the five things I will cover in this article Singing, Preaching, Communion, Giving and Prayer

Worship Tip 1 - Singing

Read: Ephesians 5:19

Most would concur that worship integrates the act of singing. Singing is the physical act that allows the worshipper to express though song what is their heart. Although singing is using our voice, singing is different than just talking. Singing as a group allows the church to sing in unison an expression of worship. That is powerful. Singing as group we can say to God our expression of praise, gratitude, and thanksgiving. Everyone can at the same time communicate to God. Singing can provides us with a greater ability to use our emotions. Music has the most distinctive ability to set up emotions and moods though the words, melody, and rhythm.

Worship Tip 2 - Preaching

Read: 1Timothy 3:16-17 and 2 Timothy 4:1-5

Preaching is an element of worship where the Word of God is revealed. Hearing God's word is vital to the growth and development of every Christian. It is vital to hear the word of God. It is vital to understand that preaching is also a way to worship God. God wants you to have a relationship with Him. He wants you to know him in a deeply intimate way. God wants you to understand as much as you can about Him. How can you worship or love someone you don't know? This is why God appointed preachers. Preaching is your opportunity to dive into the scriptures of the Bible, and discover who he is and to learn how He operates.

Worship Tip 3 - Giving

Read: 2 Corinthians 9:6-7

The Christian life is not about receiving. It's about giving. We need to have a perspective of giving and to do it with all our heart, mind and soul.

When it comes to giving most people first think about the subject of money. It is true that tithing to the church is a privilege we all called to do. But, there is so much more. God really wants you to give your entire life to Him.

You have the awesome opportunity to give all your resources to God. This includes your time, your body, and your mind. When you give to God all the resources available to you, it is at that time a true sacrifice of praise and worship.

Worship Tip 4 - Communion

Read: Matthew 26:26-29

Communion is a time for true intimate relationship with Jesus. It is time for the believer to bond with our Savior. It is an act that identifies the believer with Christ. Communion allows us to focus on the greatest gift ever given to mankind. It is a time to remember that Jesus death on the cross is the ultimate and final sacrifice for the sins of the world. Communion is the greatest privilege a Christian can experience.

Worship Tip 5 - Prayer

Read: Matthew 6:7-15

It should be noted that prayer can be a type of worship. Prayer is basically conversation with God. I say 'with' God because it is a two way communication. God love to hear from his children and you need to hear what God has to say. This type of communication fosters a fuller relationship. Prayer is the chief way for you to speak to God directly. Prayer is an opportunity for you to communicate with God. The act of prayer can be done in silence; it can be spoken out loud so that other believers can be in agreement with the prayer. Therefore prayer is an important part of worship.

In Conclusion

As you can see there isn't just one way to experience worship but several. Each one is vital. The real key is balance. These words hardly describe radio (or TV) today. A quick scan of the moral wasteland that is radio today reveals that it is not a place that can be described in any of the fore mentioned terms. I don't believe that Jesus would listen to most of what's being aired today.

There is one exception - Christian radio. Christian radio provides the perfect safe haven on the radio dial for you and your family. Christian radio has developed over the past decade to include various formats. No matter what your favorite style of music may be, there is a Christian radio station playing it.

My teenage daughter enjoys harder rock and even Hip Hop. Fortunately she doesn't have to listen to secular radio to hear this type of music. She listens online to a station that plays a Christian version of this music. The sound is the same - the lyrics are Christian, promoting Christian values, giving me and my wife peace of mind. (Teenagers need to hear encouragement. Its hard enough being a teen and staying pure without the constant bombardment that modern society throws at them).

My wife enjoys Praise and Worship. She's a Chris Tomlin and Rita Springer fan. I enjoy coming home and hearing her sing along to her favorite songs such as "Holy is The Lord". Its a blessing to know that her mind is thinking on this that are "praise worthy". I can't imagine coming home and hearing her singing a "Somebody done somebody wrong song" with Willie and Waylon and the Boys. Yikes!

I Like it all. I enjoy Christian radio in all formats. I enjoy Christian Rock groups like Reliant K and Switchfoot. I like to sing along to the David Crowder Band and DecembeRadio. I have learned alot from Christian talk radio with programs such as "Point of View", "Parent Talk On-Call", and "Focus on the Family". I especially enjoy Southern Gospel music and groups like the Crabb Family, Ernie Haase and Signature Sound and the Perrys.

The next time you get in your car and turn the radio on, listen to what you are hearing, really listen. Where is it taking you? Does it help you to think on things that are true and pure? Do the lyrics and commercials point your mind to things that are honorable and right? Does the announcer say things that are excellent and worthy of praise? If not you need to find a good Christian radio station and stay there.

Tim Eutin has been hosting the Morning Show on the He's Alive Radio Network for almost a decade. First let me begin by saying that there is a lot of new music I like, but I must admit that the majority of it isn't that exciting. If you are like me, you probably have thought, "why can't Christian artists hold up quality wise with some of the top secular artists/bands?" I don't really want to listen to secular stuff because the message just isn't there, yet outside of a few Christian acts like Mercyme and Casting Crowns, I just get bored rather quickly. The lyrical content is usually spot on, but I'm just not inspired by the music like I am when listening to the classics like The Beatles or any great secular act.

When it comes to new releases, I find that on the first few listens I am fooled into thinking that it's new and improved, but then it wears off on me quickly. Again, there is a lot of stuff for sure that is very cool and certainly creative, but if this is God's music, it should be far better than that. I can assure you that I have listened to a majority of all the new music out there and have a very good grasp on what's hot and what is mere window dressing. There are so many bands and artists out there fighting for airplay and it is usually the case that the ones who are outside of the main CCM circuit hold more depth.

2010 has seen one album in particular that truly blew me out of the water- dare I say it is a classic album. The artist was part of a classic Christian band called Burlap to Cashmere. Without over hyping this amazing singer, stop whatever you are doing and go listen to this now: John DeGrazio.

Don't try to kill body, you need to read this for your good health

Pre-Christian Music - The Egyptians

In the sculptures, wall paintings, and papyri of the Egyptians, we are presented with another glimpse into the obscurity of early musical history. Among the ancient Egyptians we find music at a similar level of development to that of the Assyrians, technically, that is, but also having a far grander spirit, at least so one would imagine by comparing such works as exist of the musical life of the two nations.

The Egyptians regarded music as of sacred origin; they employed it largely instrumental music, for the most part in the services of their religion, and, together with astronomy, regarded it in a vaguely philosophic way, fluctuating in their conceptions, between the mystical and the scientific. Judging by the size of the instruments depicted on the monuments of ancient Egypt, their music must have been of a deep and sombre cast than that of the Assyrians.

Many of the Egyptian harps were twice as large as the largest of those of the Assyrians. This is in the illustrations of the obelisks, temples, and tombs of Egypt.

Its fascinating to think that they designed their instruments and musical composition according to there influences at the time. But maybe it's no different to how we in the 21st century design and create new musical instruments. It seems that all musical instruments are still evolving and will continue to do so.

Of the spirit animating the musical art of the Egyptians, we can only guess; but there must have been something fine in the music existing in the days when the priest Taphesumnes wrote this hymn to the setting sun :-

"Gracious be to me, Thou God of the rising sun, Thou God of the evening sun ; Lord of both worlds; Thou God, who alone in truth dost dwell, Thou who hast created all, Revealing Thyself in the eye of the sun. At eventide I praise Thee, Peacefully dying to begin new life, 'Midst hymns of praise sinking into the sea, Where jubilant Thy bark awaits Thee."

In today's modern music, hymns like the above are seldom used if ever, and for many years have only been heard in a church or religious setting. But we must conclude that in the early times of the Egyptians, the above hymn would have been part of their top twenty songs, and if indeed it was then we have to accept that in some way, that maybe invisible for the time being, the above hymn and hymns like it, have had a direct or indirect influence on the modern music of today.

Michael David Shaw is a musician and music teacher. I will cover these five phases. Starting with the first phase where you will pray for direction. Next you will want to seek advice from with the pastor. Then you will need to locate the songs that reinforce the message. Once you have the songs you will need to arrange them in an organized list. Finally, you will then consolidate the list and firm up the results. Let's start with the first phase.

First you need to seek God's direction and guidance. When you are given the task of picking song for a worship service, it's a good idea to pray. Let the Holy Spirit to show you what to do. Now that you have prayed, let's continue with the next phase.

You will want to talk to your pastor about the worship service. By doing this you will understand the direction the pastor is going. In your discussion find out what the theme of the message will be. If the theme is about "The Resurrection of Jesus", this will provide you with guidance as to what kind of songs to pick. In this case you want to find songs that deal with the theme of "Resurrection". Also, you will also want to know about any unique Bible verses that will be used in the message. By knowing what Bible verses are being used will assist you in finding the right songs. Use a song book that has Bible verse references in it. Sometimes you will find a Bible verse that fits verse or verses picked by the pastor. Also, the pastor may have a song in mind want included. Now that you have a good idea of the message you need to find the right songs.

Use your music library to find songs. There are probably hundreds of hymnals and song books you can use to find songs appropriate the worship service. Another option to consider is using the Internet to locate your songs. Simply use your search engine of choice and begin browsing for songs. Now get a notepad and pencil to write down all the songs that fit the direction of the message.

Now that you know what the message theme is and you've picked several possible songs, you will need to narrow down your list of songs. In this phase you will want to form a worship flow. Here you need to use your musical experience to make sure that the songs fit well together. You will need to consider things like the key, tempo, similarity.

To start the worship service you will need to pick a song that will get the congregation's attention. This will most likely be an upbeat song. Once you have their attention you will need to bring a song that will help the congregation focus. Then once the congregation is focused on worship you can now present songs of praise, worship and celebration. Next the music can flow into the offering. Follow this with special music. The special music can be the most powerful moment in the service. It should reinforce and prepare the congregation for the message.

Now that you have prayed, consulted, researched, organized, it is time to finalize your song list. There you have it five steps to selecting songs for your church worship service.

John Pape wants to help worship leader build their music ministry. The Comparison of Today's Top 10 to Christian Music

On a recent road trip through the long, lonely roads of west Texas, I searched through the radio dial and found a country music station. First, there was a song about a girl who was hit by a car on prom night and learned to walk again-- down the aisle at her wedding. Next was a disgusting one about band members being encouraged by the leader to play a certain song well-- for the express purpose of lusting after a girl (it was her favorite song) who danced in super tight jeans. Then came a terrible song about a guy who was dumped on a sunny day at a red light. Then, an upbeat one about a girl who runs off against her mom's advice, lives with a guy and then runs off from him, leaving him alone on the front porch. On and On. It was awful.

But it reminded me how broken and sad our world is. These lyrics on the country station are reinforcing to the listeners that life sucks and there is no hope. Even the prom-night car-wreck song, which had a happy ending, was depressing and regretful (if only he hadn't let her out of the car!). The lustful one-- totally upbeat and easy to sing, and you hardly notice that you're singing the phrase "slap your grandma" and "you can look but don't touch."

One song in particular was so heartbreaking that I was going to type it all out for you. It's by Kenny Chesney and it's called "The Woman with You." I think it was supposed to be about a woman who finds solace at her husband's side... but it was really a tragic song about a woman who bought the feminist platform and felt cheated when it wasn't as advertised. It starts by describing a woman unloading groceries. A bag rips open and spills everywhere, and her husband helps her pick cans out of the gutter. She collapses on the porch swing beside him and says

"I've gophered and chauffered,

been the chairman and copier repairman

made coffee and

danced backward in high heels all day

but here on this porch I'm

glad to be your woman with you."

Does that speak to the heart of a woman or what?

"You can have it all," "You can do whatever he does," "Your kids will be fine," "You will be happy when you achieve X." We buy into it and spend our whole life on a twisted lie. Genesis 3:13 says "Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."

I don't know if I seem like a culture Nazi or what, but I just can't listen to it anymore. It started when my daughter was sick as a newborn. I was racing from the hospital to see the older kids for a minute, and a song came on the car radio with the lyrics "I'm dying inside, and nobody knows it but me" and I was just mush-- it felt so true. I had heard of Christian radio before, but that night, after that song, I've never really 'gone back' to regular music, except for little forays like today. I may have felt that night that no one knew that I was dying inside, but that is only how I felt. The God who created you and I knows how we feel, and longs to comfort us. On a Christian radio station such as K-LOVE, the music is all true- it just speaks to the joy we need to remind ourselves of, not of the suffering that we're going through. Look them up online to see if they have a local FM station near you, or listen to them through your internet connection.

You know, the music is true on both sides of the street. The thing to remember is that one kind of music is what we live and feel, and the other is our hope and assurance. John Piper says "Stop listening to yourself and start talking to yourself!"

Teresa Dear is a homeschooling mom of four kids. Some of these fragments are still sung as hymns today in the Orthodox Church, including "Awake, awake O sleeper" on the occasion of someone's baptism.

Being Jewish, Jesus and his disciples would most likely have sung the psalms from memory. However, without a centralised music industry, the repertoire of ordinary people was much greater than it is today, so they probably knew other songs too. Early Christians continued to sing the psalms much as they were sung in the synagogues in the first century.

Aside from hymns taken from the Bible itself, the earliest hymn still in use today is probably O Gladsome Light (Greek, Phôs Hilaron). In the fourth century, Basil the Great referred to it as already being a rather old hymn.

Some of the popularity of Arianism in the fourth century can be attributed to the catchy songs that the priest Arius composed in its support. The popularity of the songs helped increase the popularity of his teachings. Ephrem the Syrian composed a number of hymns later in the fourth century that supported what eventually came to be recognised as more orthodox doctrines.

Troparia and Kontakia are two early forms of hymns that became incorporated into the Church's worship.

At the conclusion of the Fifth Ecumenical Council, Emperor Justinian I is reputed to have composed a hymn summarising the council's conclusion, Only begotten Son. That hymn was since incorporated into the Divine Liturgy of John Chrysostom and is still widely sung today.

The tradition of Christian hymns in the English language is closely tied to Protestantism. Protestant hymns can range from the Reformation organ pieces of J. S. Bach to the American folk hymns found in The Sacred Harp. Martin Luther composed a number of hymns in the 16th century, reportedly borrowing some of their melodies from popular tavern drinking songs of that period.

Another famous hymn composer is Charles Wesley, brother of John Wesley. Some hymns, particularly Christmas carols, are widely embraced by various denominations while many hymns are restricted to certain religious traditions. In some cases this is due to doctrinal differences reflected in the words of the song but in many cases it is the result of tradition and the use of denominationally-produced or -approved hymnals.

The use of hymns was a factor in several historic schisms among Protestant denominations with more traditional members insisting on the use of only the psalms in the service.

Don't try to kill body, you need to read this for your good health

Contemporary Christian Music: Is It the Tune That Can Vibrate Your Heart?

Music is a universal vibration that can make every body sing and dance. It's a beautiful medicine that can treat any disorder. It helps you to get out of depression, stress and other negative feelings of life. People feel a different world around them when they tune into some best music.

Music has different genre and each genre has its own group of listeners. Here we are going to talk about music. Some people love to listen religious songs when they start a new day. It brings positive energy in them and they feel recharged to start a new life. That is the power of music.

When we are particularly talking about Christian music, what comes to your mind first. Of course soothing melodic tunes! However, this picture has been changed now, music is now playing on guitars and drums. There was a time when rock and roll kind of music was not allowed as religious tunes.

Time always keeps on changing and with this, taste of people also get change. This new beginning in the field of music is sounding like a great change in the music lovers and now they prefer to listen Christian music in different forms. People listen to music because it is very cool and creative. However, if you take a long run from the past of music, you will find that it has lowered in it's standard. God's music should be something more attractive and sophisticated. Contemporary music is fleshly and it does not convey the message of holy spirit.

Rap and rock style Christian music is killing the soul of old style music. If seriously looking, you will hardly get a couple of albums throughout the year that can drive you to the world of heaven. Artists like Larry Norman who set the way for other artists, are hardly found. Songs like 'Put your Hand in Hand' really praised Jesus and conveyed his message in an awesome manner.

God knows the heart of man, and music is an art that comes from heart. For the last quarter of his life he taught thousands how to praise God. He started his emphasis on praise and worship in the church at a time when the praise and worship element of the music industry was still in its infancy.

Sometime before this grand old gentlemen of faith died I heard him tell a story I have never forgotten. He was called to a Christian home to counsel with a family that had been experiencing a great deal of discord among them. He advised them on several levels on how to deal with their problems. Finally he said that he noticed that all the time he was in their house that he could hear the TV playing in one room and from the other rooms came the sound of the radio with rock and roll, loud hype and advertising clamor.

He told them to shut off all the noise and replace it with praise music, gospel songs and hymns. They took everything he said to heart and replaced the sound clutter with good Christian music. On his next visit to their house he found a peaceful setting where each family member conducted themselves quietly, courteously and with respect. Sound too good to be true? Make no mistake, it is true and it will always work. It is the combined power of the gospel and of music.

The Bible says that just a few things from this present time will cross the great divide and traverse to the presence of God. They are the souls of men, the product of loving deeds, and yes, music. We will be making music and singing for all eternity. What does all this say about music? Simply put music, anointed Christ honoring music has connected to it an eternal quality. It is with good cause that those who are gifted with the power to communicate Gods message with musical craft call their work a "music ministry."

Those who labor in a music ministry today have more tools and opportunities available to them than at any other time in history. Modern technology has spawned electronic production and replicating devices that can host an entire orchestra in a tiny bit of circuitry.

Even with just traditional acoustic instruments the means of publishing and distributing the sounds of the many Jubals God has raised to serve him with music can be spread around at the speed of light. MP3s, hi-tech digital editing gear, and the means of publishing and reproducing the sound by almost anyone even at home has nearly transformed the old lumbering and hapless kind of promotion known in the past.

So what's going around these days? It is an understatement to say that the best is getting better and the fledgling sounds of the newbies is bringing up the rear with great promise and skill.

Cross genre is becoming mixed genre in gospel music. Seeing Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver appearing with Bill Gaither was only the beginning. Bluegrass gospel is being woven into the fabric of Southern Gospel and old time quartet gospel music harmoniously, to borrow a musical term. Hillsong is now in the good company of dozens of great contemporary praise groups and the sounds of worship are popping up in country gospel and Southern gospel as well.

Perhaps only a musician might notice that there is a kind of admixture of instrumentation going on these days. I have played five string banjo for thirty years and guitar for over forty years and I listen carefully to instruments and their places in the overall presentation of any particular piece of music.

It is not uncommon today to hear instruments once reserved for a specific genre being incorporated into the new sounds of ecleticity's finest productions. Celtic and British Isles instruments like the penny whistle are carrying melodious strains in the backgrounds of many of today's praise songs. The mandolin and the hammered dulcimer normally associated with Appalachian mountain music are showing up in every genre both as studio instruments and stage accompaniment.

Christ has promised that he would pour out his Spirit in the last days to aide all those who labor to get his gospel out to the world. (Joel 2:28) There is little doubt that Christian musicians and artists are experiencing some of that outpouring and it is readily apparent that their music is rising to meet the day.

This great company of music makers perhaps will lead thousands in music for ages to come. We have so many of them we expect to hear once again as they bring us a new song in a new and wonderful time. Who are they? The names are far too many but for a cross section just look at the names I found on just a couple of CDs featuring Christian music from various genres in my own recently purchased collection.

You can imagine the songs; I'll give you the names. The Chuck Wagon Gang, Porter Wagoner, Tennessee Ernie Ford, George Beverly Shea, The Lewis Family, The Oakridge Boys, The Statler Brothers, Bill Gaither, Dottie Rambo, Wendy Bagwell, Melanie Walker, Suwannee River Boys, The Ruppes, The Melody Trio, Keith Green, Hillsong, Amy Grant, John Michael Talbot, Jeremy Camp, The Katinas and many others.

Most of us in the Body of Christ cannot imagine our worship experience in or out of our respective churches and gatherings without the sounds of these wonderful artists and musicians. I hope I may speak in some small way for all of us in offering our thanks to you all and this bit of encouragement. Keep up the good work because as the Lord pours out his Spirit you will see the best is yet to come.

Rev Bresciani is the author of two Christian books one that is entirely on the second coming of Christ.
