Another one of my Dad’s faves, this has an epic lead in. The build up is massive. It gets more echoey and you hear more guitar stabs the further you go. A lot of NFL players love this track and play it before a big game. It’s all suspense and emotion until the drums (BPOTS) kick in.

Picture Ray Lewis stretching at the 50 listening to this.

Wayne is off to jail this week so I took a look through some of his old material. This one never got released, and it’s a heady track. The sample as is is pretty twisted, so he must have started there, but he takes to a hazy drugged out dreamland.

Violets are blue
roses are red
daisies are yellow
the flowers are dead

He’s right in the pocket flow wise too… this is the type of track you don’t hear too often. Take a listen.

Originally this caught me because of the amazing sample. You hear it a lot on the album. It sounds Native, but who knows what Madlib chopped or looped. This part of the song though, also rolls into the extro which I love, and is another rare find record Madlib plays through. It’s a 2fer, enjoy!

This one was fun because originally I was going to go with Masta Killa’s verse. It’s so measured, precise, patient. He just sticks it. But Ghostface, who comes in right after is pure fire. The verse is raw, and this is at the 4 min mark of a hip hop track after having 6 MC’s come before him. The heat is still there. Sure he’s benefiting from the way the bars of the beat line up with the strings coming in late, but this can’t be denied. Also, whoever directed the video chose to show the part where RZA is playing this for Quincy Jones during Ghostface’s verse. Respect your elders.

Side 2, track 6. I’ve been saving this one. It would have been nice to see if Jeff from Legends could have written it up, but considering it’s the 1 year anniversary of this blog (to this day), I figured I should do it. A big thank you goes out to all my readers. I’m gonna start doing 1 min. podcasts soon, so look out for those.

I won’t pretend to be a Beatles superfan, and some may say the part where Lennon goes “i looovee toooo turnnnn yoouuu oonnnnn…” is the best, but for me I like the old timey piano and the shaker action in this part.

Don’t you hate it when you’re at the bar with your buddy and you hear some footsteps, and you’re like “Oh yeah, you know what that sounds like…click clack click clack… a lady”! But then it turns out it was just a man with petite feet. The man had petite feet, and a feminine step, he sounded like a lady when he walked into the room. Oh well.

2nd post from this album, hey I’m getting excited for the 3rd one! Madlib has records for days, I can only imagine how extensive his collection is. When I interviewed him back in 2005, he said it was even better than DJ Shadows’. At the beginning of this song, he just lets a few of them play. They’re pretty weird, radio commercials and what not.
