One more week

So about the interview--I didnt get a chance to post after it, ive been pretty busy with homework and stuff.

It went "ok". Not great; I didnt feel like I had that "wow" effect on the interviewer. Although I think I made a good impression, I have no idea how other people did who were in the same room as I was. They made us take an "ungraded" test to serve as a benchmark (>.>) so that was a little bit harrowing, because last year in bio we totally like skipped the whole chapter on genetics and reproduction so when they were like "name the 5 stages of cellular division" i had some idea of the names, but no idea what was happening. they also made us pointlessly tell them which graphs had the tallest bar (lol) and some random multiple choice that was mainly common knowledge.

so in general, it honestly could go either way and Im not exactly sure how I did. I find out on april 8th or around that time, and that day is also the first night of passover so I hope it comes before then.

So this week I got a letter telling me that I was accepted into the next level of the internship hiring process, and I have to take an interview on monday. So I get to come to school in a suit and leave in the middle of the morning ;)

I sort of have an idea what the questions are going to be like, because a friend of mine took hers a couple days ago, and theyre just stereotype interview-ish questions, but Im not a great public speaker, i get choked up a lot and have trouble being fluent, so Im probably going to have to prepare a bit beforehand. Im sort of nervous about this because If I dont get in, that means Ill have to go back to hunting for a job AGAIN and this time it wont be so pretty, being so close to the summer and all.

So ill keep you guys posted, wish me luck!

So the chemistry test went *decent*, just found out that I got an 81 on it. Not terrible, but I would have liked to do better.

anyway, I applied to this science internship at the Cleveland Clinic, its like a real job for 9 weeks during the summer, and I would get paid pretty well. The only problem is that I dont find out if I had gotten accepted or not until the late spring, so in the meantime I have to apply for stuff, even stuff that I might not want, in case the internship thing doesnt go through. so Im going to apply at a local bookstore, several different jobs involving being a counselor at a day camp, and a few other things that Im forgetting at the moment. This is basically my first real job summer, the first summer for a while that I havent been going to camp or doing anything else except working and chilling ;) so ill keep the *counts on fingers* 5! faithful readers of this blog posted on how the search is going.

nothing much else is new, ill try to get some pictures of the upcoming spring weather here for the next few days :D

this darn subject is making me soooo frustrated. The fact that I know some of what we have to know for the test and that I'm semi-decent at it means I have to answer everybody elses questions as well and help them until Im ready to scream. AAAAARGH!

Le chautlier's principle (or whatever the heck its called) makes me want to shove somebody out an open window and frankly the worst part is the teacher doesnt teach this in a way that normal people can understand. Wish me luck on this test, ill definately need it.

A loaded gun

so I just turned 16 about a month ago, and got my license (which i still cannot spell correctly without a spellcheck) on the day after that. It was really exciting, and its so cool to have all that freedom. We drove to starbucks after that, it was way in the negative degrees that day, so far the coldest day of the season, and there was ice everywhere, and it was pretty bad driving conditions to have to take the test in.

I banged 2 cones on maneuverability and got 10 points off out of the 26 points alloted, so it wasnt too bad. lined up badly to start with, sorta threw me off for the whole thing. Anyway though, I got no points off on the road test, which was over in like 3 and a half minutes.

totally got sidetracked there :o so we went to starbucks, got the apple cider caramel thing, which was wayyy too sweet and quite delicious :D Mind you, this was all of a month ago, but I found this beastly pic on my phone of a big, half-broken-off sheet of ice on the window of the store, which had the shadow of a tree being cast upon it, almost perfectly in the lines. It was just like, whoa! in your face, haha. (and this was a pain to upload, had to send it to tinypic from my phone because I no longer have a memory card adapter to put them directly on the computer.)

And as for the title of this post, I have this extremely annoying teacher at school whom I happen to despise, who likes to sneak life lessons condescendingly into her lesson plans, who tells us that a car is a loaded gun, which I suppose does have some truth in it, so this post is dedicated to her, "the robocop", who taught me why guns are bad and why I shouldnt use them.

Revelations

Ive sorta come to a conclusion about blogging. Its something that I enjoy doing, its really fun corresponding with people about their own lives, and I hope its fun for people to read this. Looking back, Im disappointed with my on-again-off-again relationship with this blog, and now im realizing that Im sorta afraid of commitment. If blogging is something I have to force myself to do, I just will end up dreading it.

On that note, I wont say that "im back", but I do hope to start posting again, and start catching up on the blogs that I follow.

Ive spent a good long while away from this baby, that I spent hours editing the html of to make the columns fit just right...Im sort of considering changing the color scheme, or even just doing a fresh start, and scrapping this one entirely, and turn over a new leaf. but for now, ill try to consistently-ish post in here, and I do find that its helpful, to have an outlet to pour out your day and feelings and stuff where theres nobody you have to worry about judging you, or making you feel weird, and its great to have the support of the people who have faithfully commented here, whether Ive been keeping up with my blog or not.

so, heres hoping that Ill keep returning to this place where I am never judged or looked down on, and that you all come back too :)

Retreat

well, at the beginning of this week I came back from my high schools retreat; we all checked in to some random hotel and did like team-building and self-finding programs all weekend. It wasnt bad, I got to hang out with all my friends rather more than I cared for, and it wasnt as good as last years. But still...its a chance to connect with other people, and "find out about yourself" (cliche, obviously...but that was the theme of the entire shebang >.>) I hope its better next year, The hotel was fine but the content of the programs needed some work, along with the structure of our stay there. It was the first time of the guy who planned it, because the previous one who had been doing it for years moved at the beginning of the year. Next time it will probably be better, once he becomes more experienced.
All in all, it wasnt any sort of unforgetable experience, but it was an escape :)

maybe Im just being a little bit paranoid, but I feel like Obama's going to be an all-or-nothing president. I mean obviously the majority of the people want him in office, but the question is will he preform to expectations. My prediction is that he will definatly not be some mediocre nobody; he has too much to live up to to just fizz out. I think that some of his issues (iran negotiations) might be a little bit too much for some people, although I think it is time for some change with the way that the US deals with hostile nations.

In english today we talked about how Obama made references to the getteysburg adress and Lincoln's inaugural speech when he got re-elected. He never once said "I", but reffered to the nation as a whole. For a time when there was a civil war going on, there was remarkably little southern-state-bashing. It was very bipartisan and very powerful. Theres no doubt the two of them were both brilliant orators, and I hope that his actions speak as loud as his words. Dont get me wrong, I support obama, but now that its a done deal, but before he starts making policies, its all speculation...time tells, right?

Drawing

I think I should take up drawing. Its always been really cool for me to watch other peoples art progress and take shape; there are lots of heavy doodlers in some of my classes. Its such an amazing thing to be able to do, and Im sure If I worked at it I could get better...for now the extent of my skill is just scribblings that dont look like much of anything.

Last year I was in a painting elective for a semester, but I never ended up with actual paints, I just sketched stuff the entire time. It would be interesting to try to learn how to shade online or something...who knows, maybe Im a hidden artist...

I find it weird that his new title is "president-elect". Like seriously, whats the point in even having a lame duck president in the first place? you elected a new leader, why give the old one another 2 months to do whatever presidents do? Ive also been reading various stuff recently talking about how messed up the electoral college system is. Maybe it would make more sense if the proportions in terms of votes were even, but its not. there was this new york times article that showed all the states, and how much impact each vote has in that state. for example in cali cali, where they have 55 electoral votes, each electoral vote represents in the neighborhood of 400 thousand people, while in vermont, each electoral vote represents 130 thousand. Your vote has more impact there...but why? why dont they just adjust the number of seats in congress and the amount of electoral votes, so that each state has a proportional amount of electoral votes to population? so messed up...

well, gotta get back to antigone, got a big essay on it due tomorrow.

yeah, im not actually 18 so I cant vote obviously...we had this program at school that was about the election and the media and the electoral college and whatnot. We talked about the Murphy effect (i think that was what it was called) where black candidates are predicted to win by landslides in exit poles, but it turns out that the opposite is true. Im rooting for Obama, but im just cautious and a little bit worried.

my dad did early voting, and apparently he was waiting in line for longer than my mom, who actually voted today. So many people flocked to the voting booths in the 4 days prior to the actual event, it took a huge load off the day itself. any readers I still may have could go here for pretty up-to-date results of both candidates' popular vote percentage and electoral votes as well (kudos lydia ;))

Finally back

well, Im finally back from my 1-month leave of absence away at camp....and my 1 month break after that. I dont know reallly why i took it, i guess i just needed a break from the pressure of constant updates and having to watch for comments and stuff... it was all just getting so stressful. And then school started and it was just like there was too much stuff going on.

Camp was good, I had a lot of fun and it was really intense. ill try to post some pictures and stuff when i feel up to it.

Hopefully, Ill be back into blogging and Ill start back up watching the blogs I support, and posting in my own :)

Heat wave

Its so hot today. Probably not by any southern state standards, but definately up there for ohio. I went today with my volunteer group to cold stone creamery but it wasnt the one closeish to my house, it was the one thats pretty far away. And since our entire group had to order, which was like 20 people, I had to wait like 10 minutes in the not-so-well-air-conditioned store for my cream de menthe shake. But it was fabulous. And then we went outside, and I failed to claim a chair under one of the umbrellas, but good thing i put on some of that continuous spray sunscreen on my neck (yes mom and dad, it really does work).

And, da return of da pics =)

Anyway, I've forgotten how much I hate pop radio stations. our local hip/hop pop whatever station we always listen to on the car ride to the volunteer place. And the same 10 songs come on at the exact same times every tuesday and thursday, every week. Like we hear that one rhianna song always without fail, every time just as we pull into the parking lot. The only perk is that during that hour that we're on our way back, its commercial free every day. So at least its not bad songs peppered with bad commercials.

I'm counting my blessings.

Well, its official. I'm officially a driver. After successfully applying and owning that touch-screen test (only 6 wrong ftw!), I got that little laminated piece of plastic of my dreams...except for the fact that I look like a complete creeper on it. But all is well. My dad and I went on a few test drives, wasted about a quarter tank of gas, and gained the very valuable knowledge that I have a tendency to go too far to the right of the road... I'm just afraid that im to close to the center line, and that Im going to hit the car coming from the opposite direction. I very nearly missed scraping teh side of an old chevy....my dad says i must be a conservative, because Im always bearing right. Very funny.

But still. Im leaving for camp in a mere 5 days, and pretty much nowhere near to being done with shopping/packing. We got a really really warm sleeping bag that is WAY to much trouble putting away and taking out, but is quite the cozy. Oh yeah, on my permit I accidentally signed my name a little bit under the line, so that its drooping into the barcode....I wonder if that will run me into trouble someday. meh.

Mary Worth: Falling apart

I was reading the comics today, and what on earth is up with Mary Worth???

I never really liked it to begin with; its too soap opera-y, and each strip really accomplishes nothing on its own. Every day theres only like 2 boxes, and something only really gets done once a week. And then there's her recent fight with Jeff or whatever his name is. She would never do that, and the entire thing is so very predictable. Im tired of reading mediocre comic strips with typical, predictable plot lines. Maybe its time to get some new writers...

Wow,its been a while...

Like always, I apologise for the absence (which seem to be getting more and more frequent). I've been semi-busy.

In an attempt to knock out some of my community service hours for school and busy myself with something, Im volunteering at this thing called Youthabilty, which is like working with disabled kids. So I do art with them and things like that, and we talk about the struggles we've had.

I half-heartedly tried to find a paying job, but acting to late and complications in the family prevented that from happening. Also, the fact that I'm leaving for camp in 2 weeks until like the end of August. So when that happens I might schedule some posts to be posted phantomly....spooky!

And even though its like 2 months away, already were preparing hiring caterers and stuff for my sisters Bat Mitzvah, so that should take up lots of time also. But I will try to be more diligent with my blogging in the next 2 weeks.

Finally, Im back from my extended "vacation" from the blogosphere. I know that its been a long wait for all you faithful blog readers (all 5 of you...) but finally, I have returned.

Finals were pretty good. I think that all in all they were better than the first semester. I guess i just knew more of what to expect; most teachers dont really change the format from the first semester, just the material that was on it. I think, but im not exactly sure, that I did better overall, because while some faithful teachers already put our grades up on the online grade service, others probably wont end up even grading them at all. And in the meantime nobody is even pushing or pressuring them, as final grades arent due for another couple of weeks. So thats probably going to turn out ok anyway.

We had a spell of ridiculously hot weather here, and it was really crazy. But now thats over and were back to the dark, dreary wet normality of the midwest. It was such a day today, (this needed a little modification, as I wrote this last week but never published it) and it was raining like mad all day, and even hailing a little bit. Ill put the pictures of it up tomorrow.

I saw "Get Smart" with my dad today, and it was pretty good, and I've never seen the origional series and my dad said they changed the dynamic of it. But as somebody who had never seen the origional I thought it was decent. It manged to be funny at times and serious at others. It wasnt too badly done. 3.5 stars. I feel so critical :-)

So Im hoping, after this year's community service hours scare, to be able to plan out and wipe some of next years out this summer. I was looking for opportunities at my local library, but they had none but i got a reference to this nonprofit that I guess matches up teens with younger kids who have disabilites or are "at risk". So hopefully I can get my maximum of 7.5 hours off that, and the other 7.5 off PEI, the tutoring program with inner city schools during the school year. So this way I dont have to be, um, "creative" with my hours.

And its cool because even though the stuff for "teenability" (as its called) is like 15 or 20 minutes away by car, they have an intern who lives really close to me so I can get rides with her, which should make it really easy.

Ill keep you posted and post all the pics ive been meaning to post (phew--so many "post) hopefully tomorrow.

Well, its going to go up past 90 for the first day this year, and tomorrow also.
What a perfect setting to have the first day of finals in; our unairconditioned school with too many windows that conduct heat.
