Four Second Firestorm

Four Second Firestorm is the third sequel in the "Four Second" series, which are made up of a collection of creative minigames, WarioWare style. You are given 4 seconds to complete each minigame, which can range from closing pop-up windows to cleaning a bike. The games are very simple but fast paced, requiring you to be quick-witted: short instructions telling you what to do are shown before each game, and you have to figure out yourself how to complete them. You can choose between using the keyboard or mouse: personally, I would recommend the latter simply because the mouse games are a lot more creative and tricky.

Four Second Firestorm was put together as a collaborative effort between 56 flash developers, spanning over 20 countries. Those who are avid flash-game players will probably recognize a lot of the art and designs from flash games they have played before. With over 175 different minigames and 4 modes of play, Four Second Firestorm is definitely a game worth playing over and over.

Hot Air

Old school gamers will probably find this game reminiscent of Bubble Ghost on the Commodore 64: however, instead of blowing a bubble through obstacle-ridden haunted house halls, you control a hot air balloon through different stages with a fan. The whole game feels very Nintendo-like, with the pixel art and colorful stages, and the controls are as simple as they can be: you use your mouse to control a small fan that blows your hot air balloon around. You must guide your balloon from the green platform to the red, while avoiding obstacles and collecting keys along the way. There are 25 stages in total (5 bonus ones which are unlocked by collecting stars in the game) that have to be unlocked in order.

Here's a quick and fun IQ test to challenge your word recognition skills. You are only given numbers and the first letters of the words to common phrases like "24 Hours in a Day". The phrases you have to guess are all amounts of things we see everyday (cards in a pack, days of the week, etc.), making it simple and challenging at the same time. There are 33 questions in total and if you score above 19 the creators consider you to be a genius. I'm stuck at 18!

Tontie

Tontie is a flash game that will surely frustrate people with slow fingers. Played entirely on the numberpad, the concept is simple: press the corresponding keys to destroy enemies who appear on screen in a 3x3 grid. I found this game to be very enjoyable, as it takes you through many levels with different enemies who have to be killed in a variety of ways. You can buy upgrades with the money you collect, and this adds an almost RPG-like quality to the game. Things are mixed up every few stages with boss battles and new targets to attack.

Even if you don't enjoy the game, it's still great practice for the fingers on the numpad. Aspiring cashiers, rejoice!

Samegame

If you’re like me and you find games that use color themes strangely enjoyable then you will definitely like Samegame. The objective is simple: clear all the blocks from the screen. Clicking on a group of 3 or more same-colored blocks will remove them, and you get bonus points (as well as that nice feeling you get when you know you’ve accomplished something great) for clearing large groups of blocks. The blocks are affected by gravity and will shift to the left when adjacent blocks are removed, so planning your moves is important. You are given tools to help when you’re stuck, and these include: a column remover, a row remover, and a ‘bomb’ that removes a 3×3 square. Extra points are awarded for completing a stage quickly, using less clicks or clearing a stage without using any tools.

Innovative mouse flash game

Here's a pretty interesting 'next-gen' flash game that involves drawing with your mouse. It's one of those easy to get, but difficult to master flash games: you basically draw a path for your dot to follow. The stages become increasingly difficult as the levels progress, forcing you to become better at coordinating hand and eye. It gets frustrating at around level 15!

I have arrived.

Okay, seriously, this is my first time blogging, so bear with me. I will basically be posting reviews on flash games/casual games (because console games require too much real skill and thought) every few days. I know there are a lot of people out there like me who tend to procrastinate a lot, so I figured, why bother trying to curb your procrastination? If you want to be playing flash games instead of doing work, then you shouldn’t stop yourself from doing so. Time wasted while having fun is not time wasted.
