Today, he is estimated to have a net worth of as much as $200 million. He’s an actor, a businessman and a professional poker player. But, how did he really make his fortune that he flaunts to his millions of social media followers? Let’s take a closer look.

Not-So-Humble Beginnings

Dan Bilzerian had money from a very young age, and it was thanks in large part to his father, Paul. His dad was a venture capitalist who invested lots of money buying up stocks of various companies.

Paul graduated from the very prestigious business school at Harvard University, and eventually founded a robotics company. That company took off and led to a lot of money coming into the Bilzerian family.

However, Paul went bankrupt thanks in large part to a fraud case that saw him pay a $1.5 million fine and spend 13 months in jail.

Luckily for Dan, his father placed a lot of money in trust funds, which is where the Bilzerian children got their financial start. This, in part, allowed him to become the professional poker player he is, who gambles at the best online casinos for US players.

After graduating high school, Dan Bilzerian joined the US Navy Seal program in 1999. He wasn’t able to complete the school, though, because he fractured his leg.

His first role was in the 2013 film Lone Survivor, in which he played the character Daniel Healy. A year later, he was in the drama movie The Equalizer, as well as two other films – Cat Run 2 and The Other Woman.

In 2015, he appeared in the movie Extraction, followed by a role in the film War Dogs and then a TV series called Risk Takers: Reality Show.

He also made some money as an executive producer for an animated cartoon TV series that was called the Blitz Real Hollywood Stories.

His Business

Dan Bilzerian built a lot of his fortune from a public company he founded in 1985 called Ignite. Based in Toronto, Canada, the company sells CBD oils, vodka, electronic cigarettes and water bottles.

In 2020, he launched a new division of the company called Ignite Cannabis, with a focus on legal marijuana production.

While the COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on his business – as it did on many businesses around the world – the company actually turned a profit of about $3.1 million in just the fourth quarter of 2020. Today, the company is valued at a little more than $14 million, which certainly contributes to Dan Bilzerian’s fortune.

Professional Poker Player

Most people came to know Dan Bilzerian as a professional poker player. He made a name for himself playing at big tournaments such as the World Series of Poker but has also made loads of money playing at USA online casinos.

Dan Bilzerian is obviously a sucker for high-stakes, adrenalin-inducing events. That’s why it makes sense that he has also abled in racing.

In 2011, he participated in a speed war drag race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He faced off against Tom Goldstein, racing in a 1967 AC Cobra. For winning that race, he brought home a very impressive $385,000.

He has also competed in drag races, and won a lot of money in side bets for riding his bicycle from Las Vegas all the way to Los Angeles. He took home $600,000 in a “friendly bet” with Bill Perkins for completing the 300-mile trip in less than two days.

All in all, there are a lot of sources to Dan Bilzerian’s wealth. His beginnings getting money from a trust fund from his father certainly helped. But, today, Dan Bilzerian makes it on his own as a professional poker player, a keen businessman and the “King of Instagram.”

Robert Lacey’s new book Battle of Brothers: William and Harry – The Inside Story of A Family in Tumult continues to bring up controversies about the royal couple from the not-so-distant past. The author suggests that Meghan left a Fiji market in 2018 in an act of revenge.

We’ll tell you everything about this spicy story, and we’ll throw in another old controversy that escaped the scope of eagle-eyed journalists.

Fiji Market Controversy

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were on a royal tour of Australia and Oceania in late 2018. One of their engagements included a visit to a local market in Fiji, which was cut short. At the time, the official reasoning behind it was security measures – there were more people in attendance than expected, so Meghan had to leave for her safety.

Robert Lacey, however, thinks otherwise. The author cites royal aides who claim there was a selfish reason behind this decision. Just to remind you, there’s an ongoing investigation into bullying claims brought up by ex-royal aides against the Duchess. This explains why these stories keep popping up.

The royal aide (informant) was present at the scene and says that Meghan ‘hissed’ at a member of her staff and demanded to leave immediately. This staff member was later seen crying. Although this story first emerged in March 2021, shortly after the bullying investigation was opened, this was the only bit of information (Meghan hissing, aide crying) that came out at the time. Lacey dug deeper and supposedly uncovered why the whole controversy happened.

Why Did Meghan Leave

Meghan was tasked to visit ‘Market for Change’, a UN Women project, aimed to better the working conditions of female vendors in Fiji. She only spent 6 minutes there, which left many female vendors disappointed as they were promised to meet the Duchess. But why would Meghan, a lifelong advocate for women’s rights, do that on purpose?

Lacey claims that the problem wasn’t the lack of appropriate security or the type of event – it was the organization which created the project.

Meghan first advocated for women’s rights back in 1993 when she asked Procter & Gamble to take down a sexist ad about a dish soap. Her plea was successful, and she later recalled the event during a speech about gender equality at a UN Women conference in 2015.

However, despite her powerful speech, Meghan was not made an ambassador, but only a UN advocate – a lesser position. This was likely because of her popularity at the time – she wasn’t as well-known as other ambassadors such as Emma Watson. One of her acquaintances claims Meghan couldn’t deal with this ‘snub’ and rejection in general. This lesser position prompted her to remove all references to UN Women from her blog, and the organization responded by removing all references to her.

Before leaving for the event, the Duchess apparently told her staff that she’d only go if there was no UN Women marketing. Once there, she got mad that there was, so she ‘hissed’ at her staff for leading her on and left. If these accusations are true, it’d mean that Meghan disrespected her royal duties in an act of revenge. Her lawyers denied the claims. It’s unclear, but possible, that these accusations will be brought up in the bullying investigation.

Why Did Meghan Go

In the spirit of old controversies, we wanted to bring you a lesser-known story, which is arguably more controversial than the previous one. The story didn’t attract media attention, which is odd, but it’s very popular with Meghan and Harry’s gossipers.

The story alleges that Harry broke up with Meghan in 2016, after a few months of dating, and that he didn’t think their relationship was serious. Before that happened, Harry and Meghan were invited to Tom Inskip’s wedding (Harry’s best friend). Meghan wasn’t expected to attend the Jamaican wedding, since her relationship status changed following the invitation, but she still went.

The bride and groom were shocked to see her, and so was Harry. Photos from the occasion show Meghan looking frustrated while talking to Harry, who appears to be uninterested. Moreover, it’s said that she was rude to the waiting staff.

Certain media reports allege that Tom, or ‘Skippy’, was mad at Meghan for stealing the spotlight by virtue of attending, but other sources claim she didn’t attend as Harry’s girlfriend, but crashed the wedding as Harry’s ex-girlfriend. Media outlets haven’t reported on their alleged break or the possible wedding crashing.

However, critics of the couple support their arguments by tying their theory to proven facts. Skippy attended Meghan and Harry’s 2018 wedding ceremony, but he wasn’t invited to the private party at Frogmore. This is a fact as the guest list is public knowledge, and while it included celebrities such as Oprah, it mysteriously excluded Harry’s best friend.

At the time, media outlets reported the snub, but they didn’t give a reason behind it. Critics say he wasn’t invited, because he voiced his concerns about Meghan after his infamous Jamaican wedding. Allegedly, Skippy tried to dissuade Harry from rekindling his romance with the American actress. She apparently didn’t take it well, so she was blacklisted from the wedding party.

It’s unclear what happened and this story might be a strawman based on awkward pictures of the couple, but the royal snub of Harry’s best friend is still bizarre.

The singer behind hit songs such as ‘Summertime Sadness’ is seeing her reputation worsen lately due to public statements she’s made in the last two years. There would always be critics when you’re as famous as Lana is, but lately, even her devoted fans have turned against her.

Pre-Scandal Scandalous Lana

Lana Del Rey shot to stardom in 2012 with the release of her hit album Born to Die, which revolutionized the music industry and influenced pop culture. Her vintage style, combined with her nostalgic lyrics, made everyone long for the old times and dress accordingly.

However, even before the latest scandals, Lana was a controversial artist. Some of her songs like ‘Ultraviolence’ are said to glamorize abuse, others – drugs (‘American’), or generally taboo topics like homewrecking (‘Cola’).

The Open Letter

Despite receiving glowing reviews for yet another album (Norman F****** Rockwell), Lana felt the need to defend her music. She posted a lengthy letter on her Instagram account denouncing her critics who claim she’s working against women’s interests. She rightfully asserts that female artists shouldn’t be constrained by culture, and should instead explore whatever they want in their art. If that was the whole statement, people would have likely praised it. But as you might have guessed – it wasn’t.

The letter starts with name-dropping other female artists such as Beyonce and Cardi B, who, Lana claims, are applauded for singing about ‘being sexy, wearing no clothes, f******, cheating’, while she’s supposedly being crucified for doing the same.

Critics quickly responded by saying it was rude and unnecessary to drag other women down. Others noticed that 6 of the 7 singers she mentioned were women of color. Moreover, Lana seemed to suggest that while her songs’ topics resembled those of the artists she mentioned, she was different from them – ‘delicate’ and ’embodied’ with her’ voice taken away…by stronger women.’

Lana was thus blamed for promoting negative stereotypes about WOC, for pinning her gentle ‘whiteness’ against them, and for pointlessly complaining there’s no space for (white) artists like her. Critics soon reminded her that the women she name-dropped have been receiving the same type of backlash for years. Her statement was called tone-deaf, with some comments also claiming she’s jealous of the singers’ current success.

Curiously though, some people claim her statement was calculated, not misinformed. Lana’s next studio album was coming up, and people like YouTuber D’Angelo Wallace, suggested she profits off ‘Black outrage’. This is also supported by the fact she mentioned her upcoming poetry books in the letter.

Lana Strikes Back

Lana immediately responded to the accusations of racism in another Instagram post. She said she mentioned those female singers in a ‘complimentary way’, and that she simply advocates for ‘the more delicate and often dismissed [women]’. She criticized the press and people who want to ‘make it a race war’.

The response was swift and merciless. Critics said that she should have simply apologized, but instead doubled down on her tone-deafness. Others thought her statement and the consecutive Instagram comments portrayed her as a victim, which fuels the narrative of the fragile white woman who should always be protected from negativity, thus shielding her from criticism.

Yet another Lana rebuttal came out a few days later. In an Instagram video, Lana again defended herself, but then likened herself to FKA Twigs (another WOC) who is praised for pole-dancing, while Lana is vilified for it. Fans commented that Lana was dragged not for pole-dancing, but for portraying a Latina stripper, thus showing how she’s ignorant of appropriation. Some went as far as to say that Lana’s glamorization of pre-Civil Rights America implied she was racist.

The video ended with the announcement of her upcoming album, which further reinforced the argument that she is stirring up controversy for profit.

Lana Pre-emptively Strikes Back

After posting the cover of this new album, Chemtrails Over the Country Club, Lana made yet another controversial comment. The cover depicts Lana and her friends, and there didn’t seem to be any issues with that until she commented on her post. Although her comment looks like a response to something, it was a standalone comment in which Lana said that some of the people on the cover are POC.

Moreover, she said that she was best friends with rappers and had rapper boyfriends. The comment was a pre-emptive measure as most of her friends on the cover are white, but nobody seemed to mind that.

Critics soon called this an unnecessary controversy and denounced her ‘white fragility’. They also found the rappers comment problematic as it implies the term is interchangeable with ‘black’. Many also said that having friends of color doesn’t absolve one of responsibility and doesn’t make them not racist.

What Now?

A little bit later, Lana also claimed Trump didn’t know he was inciting a riot (referencing the January Capitol Riot). This statement, combined with the other, made the media portray her as a white conservative who is either explicitly or implicitly racist.

Many fans have turned against her as they believe that to be true. On the other hand, some think these scandals were orchestrated to promote her music and poetry, which is still bad. Others have forgiven her but expect her to do better in the future.

Kim Kardashian filed for divorce in February 2021 after almost 7 years of marriage to Kanye West. The reality star had continuously shut down divorce rumors, but they never quite ceased to appear in the tabloids. Many fans weren’t even sure whether Kim and Kanye were actually getting a divorce, but they have both since confirmed the news.

The now ex-couple had always had issues, some of which they made public. When Kanye infamously said ‘slavery was a choice’ on TMZ live, Kim was outraged and made it clear. Soon after there was a Keeping up with the Kardashians episode detailing their marital problems, and even an episode which showed them fighting over Kim’s clothing choices.

Apparently, Kanye disliked how revealing Kim’s dress was for the 2019 MET Gala, and she responded by saying that he used to like that about her. She also seemed to reference Kanye’s religious transformation, which put another strain in their relationship. Kanye’s new opinions were in stark contrast to Kim’s liberal views.

Kanye’s public outbursts were naturally another reason why their marriage ultimately failed. The rapper would often go on twitter and post hundreds of tweets, some of which were insulting to Kim and her family. Kanye’s run for president in 2020 produced even more bizarre and controversial statements.

The last straw was Kanye’s confession that he asked Kim to abort their firstborn – North during one of his presidential rallies. Although Kim stood by Kanye and explained his outburst was the result of his bipolar disorder, things were not the same afterwards.

Kanye moved to their Wyoming ranch, and a few months later Kim filed for divorce.

Kim Who

Kanye was spotted with supermodel Irina Shayk in Paris on his birthday (June 8th) this year. This immediately sparked dating rumors as the duo looked happy to be together, and Shayk is definitely Kanye’s ‘type’. Many people, however, criticised the rapper for finding a new beau so soon after he officially split with Kardashian.

The rapper and the supermodel immediately started trending on social media with some claiming Kanye looked happier with her. Many articles were written about the new couple, but the latest developments suggest they aren’t a couple to begin with.

Shayk did spend Kanye’s birthday with him in Paris, but so did 50 other people who were also invited. Moreover, sources claim that Shayk is now purposefully avoiding Kanye as to shut down dating rumors. The supermodel is supposedly not looking for a new boyfriend after splitting from Hollywood actor Bradley Cooper with whom she shares a daughter.

New Album, New Beginning

Personal life aside, let us now discuss Kanye West’s upcoming projects. Kanye is teasing a new studio album, which would become his 11th. Here are all his studio albums so far:

The upcoming feature will be called Donda, in memory of the rapper’s late mother. Donda West tragically died on November 10th, 2007. She had three plastic surgeries the previous day (liposuction, tummy tuck, and breast reduction surgery), which went well, but things turned to worse when she decided to leave the hospital and go back home immediately afterwards.

Donda was not only Kanye’s mother and manager – she was his best friend. When she died, Kanye was heartbroken and entered a long cycle of depression and drug abuse. Donda is mentioned in many of his songs (e.g., ‘Clique’), but Kanye felt she deserved a whole album.

This is also his way to reconcile with the past, and he even said that he forgives the doctor who performed his mother’s surgeries. He also had to forgive himself. Despite not being in any way involved in his mother’s death, he blames himself for moving to L.A. Kanye believes if they’d both stayed in Chicago, none of that would have happened.

The rapper chose a touching cover for the album – an abstract painting of a woman – drawn by an artist who had also lost her mother and paid a tribute to her. Apart from exploring his relationship with his mother, Kanye will also examine his divorce from Kim and the relationship with his four children. There are some lyrics such as ‘I’m losing my children’, which sadden fans of the rap star.

The album is also highly anticipated due to the many collaborations on it. Kanye is set to share the scene with Jay-Z, Travis Scott, Pusha T, Playboi Carti, Lil Baby and others. What’s more Kanye appears to tease a full-length collaborative album with Jay-Z. A sequel to their successful feature Watch the Throne (2011).

Donda is set to be released on August 6th, 2021, but knowing Kanye, there might be delays. However, the rapper revealed that he won’t leave Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta, GA), where his listening event occurred, before finishing the album. Funnily, the musician was spotted watching a Major League Soccer game at the venue wearing the outfit he picked for the pre-release event. A representative of Mercedes-Benz Stadium confirmed the rapper was indeed staying there.
