No one knows the real reason celebrities decide to publicly renew their vows. Are they trying to prove their commitment to each other? To us? Or do they just want an excuse to throw a big party?

One thing is for sure: renewing your vows in Hollywood is no guarantee that the relationship will last. No matter how often you renew them – or how soon after you’ve wed.

Seal and Heidi Klum

Before they announced their split earlier this year, Seal and Heidi Klum were the heavyweight champions of vow renewals, turning each annual ceremony into a carnival sideshow with increasingly elaborate themes and costumes. From masquerade masks to “white trash” mullets and cornrows, Klum told Redbook in 2010, “We love to renew our vows. It’s our time — a lovely family time.” (*Ed. note: they must have a lot of professional photographers in their family.)

Leann Rimes and Eddie Cibrian

Considering they were both married to other people at the time, Leann Rimes and Eddie Cibrian’s pairing scandalized Hollywood – which might be why they were in such a rush to get to the altar. One year later, they seem to be in a rush again – to reaffirm their love to the world on their first wedding anniversary. On April 27, Rimes Tweeted from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where the couple was renewing their vows, “It’s incredible to thank each other for the past year as husband and wife. Here’s to another great year!”

Jon and Kate Gosselin

Nine years and eight kids after they first said “I do,” Jon and Kate Gosselin renewed their wedding vows on a 2008 trip to Maui. The awkwardly televised vow renewal ceremony, which was featured on their show, “Jon & Kate Plus Eight” seemed to be more for the cameras than the couple. Kate admitted,

“Our first wedding was for us…. This time it is also for us, but mostly to publicly promise our children that we will always be together, complete as a family always.”

Considering the nasty public split that followed just one year later, Jon’s vows now seem especially cringe-worthy: “I am the happiest father and husband knowing that you are by my side always. I will always be your partner for life.”

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon

Married since 2008, Mimi and Nick make a habit of renewing their vows once a year – in style. This year, they said de ja “I do” at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. In 2011, they renewed their vows at the NYC hospital where their twins, Monroe and Moroccan were born, with Rev. Al Sharpton officiating. Cannon told Us Weekly, “I have to do it every single year. If you were married to Mariah Carey, you’d want to marry her every year too! I just have to keep doing it to make sure it’s real.”

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott

Hard to believe, but these two have been married now for six years – which is equal to at least 25 years in Hollywood. Spelling and McDermott decided to renew their vows in 2010 – in a sandbox. The couple thought it would be cute to recreate their original nuptials on a beach in Fiji, so they climbed in the sandbox with their children and called it a “rebirth.” Coincidentally (or not) the couple was combating rumors of marital problems at the time, but today they’re still going strong.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony

Four years into their marriage, J.Lo and Marc Anthony decided to renew their vows at a double ceremony in Las Vegas in 2008, alongside famous friends, Carlos Beltran and wife, Jessica Lugo. Unfortunately, the couple that renews their vows in a 2-for-1 Caesars Palace’s special doesn’t always stay together, and J.Lo and Marc announced their split three years later. It wasn’t the first vow renewal for Anthony, who had previously said “I do” twice to ex-wife, Dayanara Torres during their three-year marriage.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries

Ellen DeGeneres no doubt thought it would be funny and ironic to host a vow renewal ceremony for Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries on her show, considering they were just a few weeks into their marriage at the time. But no one knew then just how ironic the ceremony was, considering the marriage only lasted 72 days total. At the 2011 renewal ceremony, DeGeneres professed, “We are gathered here today because we are the only 300 people who weren’t invited to Kim and Kris’ wedding.”

In addition to their earnings, the following country stars also made the cut based on their press coverage, social media, and web stats. Some are mainstays in the spotlight, while others make their millions off of past projects that continue to rake in residuals.

#11 – Taylor Swift

As of May 2012, Grammy award-winning country crooner, Taylor Swift, raked in more money than Justin Bieber, Rhianna, or Lady Gaga this year. Much of the 22-year-old’s$57 million earnings came from her world tour, which brought the singer-songwriter over $1 million per concert on 65+ tour dates. She’s also a spokesperson for CoverGirl cosmetics and continues to reel in revenue from the sales of her 2010 album,“Speak Now,” which sold more than five million copies across the globe. Even more earnings are in the near future for Swift, whose fourth album is set to hit stores this fall.

#49 – Toby Keith

The 50-year-old Oklahoma native, Toby Keith, is a perfect example of cross-country branding. He’s parlayed his no-nonsense persona into a promotion deal as a Ford Truck Man, which is now in its second decade.  His restaurant chain, I Love This Bar and Grill, is also going strong and complemented by the sales of his new drink, Wild Shot Mezcal. But Keith’s success is still based on a firm country music foundation. His gold record, “Clancy’s Tavern,” and platinum single, “Red Solo Cup,”certainly helped sell seats on his cross-country tour this year.

#53 – Kenny Chesney

Kenny Chesney hauled in $44 million this year, mostly thanks to his 48-stop tour across the U.S. and Canada. Sponsored by trusted brands, Corona and Hooters, the tour nearly doubled the 44-year-old’s on-the-road earnings for last year. The profits from Chesney’s solid song publishing catalog continue to earn revenue for the country superstar and Tennessee native, despite his lack of recent album releases. Chesney’s 13th studio album, “Welcome to the Fishbowl,” is scheduled to hit stores this June and feature a duet with Tim McGraw.

#68 – Brad Paisley

In 2012, charismatic country singer, Brad Paisley out-earned stars such as Kim Kardashian, Will Smith, and even Brad Pitt. The 39-year-old’s $32 million earnings had a lot to do with his 2011 record, “This Is Country Music” going gold and reaching number one on Billboard’s country charts. HavingChevrolet as a solid sponsor on his Virtual Reality tour hasn’t hurt Paisley’s net-worth, either.

#91 –Larry the Cable Guy

Larry the Cable Guy, whose real name is Daniel Lawrence Whitney, proves that you don’t need to be a crooner to be considered a staple in country culture – you can also be a country comedian. Along with his stand-up performances, DVD sales and popular History Channel show, “Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy,” the 49-year-old Nebraska native’s Blue Collar Comedy Tour contributed to his $18 million earnings this year. The “Git ‘er done” star also earns big bucks with his heartburn humor as a spokesman for Prilosec OTC.

Between their own lines of beverages and restaurant chains,toendorsing products like trucks and heartburn tablets, country stars are adding to their fame. Would you say country stars with side-ventures are sell-outs or simply savvy cross-branders?

I’m feeling all kinds of crazy, stupid, love for Ryan Gosling’s upcoming fall movie, “Gangster Squad.” Having recently watched the movie’s first trailer, I only have one thing to say to “Zombieland” director Ruben Fleischer: “Please, sir, I want some more.”

Fleischer’s 1920s mob fantasy swells with all-star cast, including Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, and Emma Stone, each with a seemingly gripping role.

Kicking the trailer off is a voice-over from Sean Penn, “I’m not an educated man,” he says roughly, “but I’ve read some history. Every kingdom comes up bloody; every castle is built on a pile of bones.”

Okay, you’ve got my attention. Who is this guy?

Mickey Cohen is a retired professional boxer turned mobster who recently moved to Los Angeles to elevate his status from gangster to god. Using any method necessary to achieve this goal, Cohen is the main target of the Gangster Squad.

The Gangster Squad

Ah, the Gangster Squad, our untouchable law men. Check out this heavy-weight cast: Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Peña, Anthony Mackie, and Robert Patrick.

All you have to say is Ryan Gosling’s name and I’m sold. I can’t think of a single film he has appeared in that I have not liked. He consistently surprises me with his uncanny ability to meld into a role. In “Gangster Squad,” Gosling plays an LAPD officer who’s not afraid to thrown down the badge and gets the job done.

The first time I caught a glimpse of Brolinin the trailer, I immediately linked him to his role of a young Agent K in the upcoming movie, “Men in Black 3.” Looks like Brolin is going to have a good summer.

Giovanni Ribisi is one of those actors whose name I never remember but every time I see him in a movie or on TV, I like him. You may remember Ribisi as Phoebe’s younger brother, Frank, on the television series “Friends.” He also played the putting company man Parker Selfridge in “Avatar.”

I’m looking forward to seeing what Michael Peña does with his role. Hopefully his character will be a mix of badass and that new-cop charm that made him likable as Mark Wahlberg’s unwitting partner in the 2007 movie, “Shooter.”

Anthony Mackie may not be a name you know now, but you mostly will in the months to come. He appeared as the burned out agent in “Adjustment Bureau” before appearing in a string movies such as “Reel Steel,” “What’s Your Number,” and “Man on a Ledge.”

Known for playing corrupt, homicidal characters, I wonder if Robert Patrick is going to be true to form and portray the mole of the group or if he’ll break away from the expected and play a good guy?

Every great gangster flick features a hot woman draped on the arm of the mob boss. In “Casino” it was Sharon Stone, in “Scarface” it was Michelle Pfeiffer, and in “Gangster Squad,” it’s Emma Stone. Stone plays Grace Faraday, Mickey Cohen’s off-limits moll. Off-limits until Gosling appears, that is. Gosling and Stone only have a few scenes together in the trailer, but it’s enough to show us the chemistry between these two is undeniable, which we already knew from “Crazy, Stupid, Love.”

“Gangster Squad” looks like it’s going to be a solid mobster film, secured by strong performances and plenty of illicit action. Even though no release date has been named yet, I still can’t wait to see it. How about you?

When Britney Spears signed on to be a judge on “The X Factor,” she demanded more than a $15 million paycheck; her rider also spelled out the exact food and beverage requirements for her dressing room. These demands included 10 bags of Doritos a day, 12 snickers bars, and tubs of potato salad. This isn’t all for Ms. Spears, she is a generous lady and shares it with her entourage. What other bizarre demands have celebrities made before they will agree to grace us with their presence when on tour?

Van Halen

The ‘80s rock band made a stink if the bowl of M&M’s they required in their dressing room had any of the brown pieces left in. Who knows, maybe they only like their chocolate candy coated in a colorful way.

Beyonce

This diva demands her dressing room be kept precisely at 78 degrees. And don’t even think about putting a Coke in the room. For contractual reasons, she can only be seen with Pepsi products.

Adele

The British singer predictably asks for the fixings needed to make tea, but specifically states that the honey cannot be organic. Another ordinary gone crazy is that she wants assorted fresh fruit at all times with NO CITRUS FRUIT! The caps are hers, not mine.

Rihanna

Rihanna apparently wants to make a little bit of home while she’s on tour by being very specific about how her dressing room is decorated. She requires blue or black drapes layered with icy-blue chiffon. She also wants an animal print throw rug that has to be clean and ready for her bare feet.

Katy Perry

The Teenage Dream singer has a pretty typical list of requests for food and flowers in her dressing room – it’s specific, but nothing too strange. That is, until you get to the end of the acceptable flower list, and she states, in caps, absolutely no carnations!

Sir Paul McCartney

The former Beatle and animal rights activist specifies that no fur, leather or meat be in his dressing room. He also requests 6 floor plants, but has something against tree trunks because his rider specifically sates that the plants must be bushy and trunk-free.

Eminem

This bad boy rapper unsurprisingly asks for somewhere to work out. Somewhat more surprising is his request for Lunchables. I thought Lunchables were something your mom usually packed for you in grade school, but apparently it’s a staple for rappers.

Will Ferrell

The comedian has probably the strangest list of requests for his tour. He wants a flight of stairs on wheels, a fake tree on wheels, and a rainbow on wheels. He does say the rainbow may be painted canvas, though. He’s not unreasonable.

Mary J Blige

There will be no hovering in Mary J Blige’s dressing room. She requires a brand new toilet seat be installed in her dressing room before she appears. Apparently she won’t put herself down anywhere that is less than pristine.

Dustin Diamond

Whatever you do, don’t call him Screech. The former “Saved by the Bell” star, who took his career in a very different direction, does not want any “Screech-centric” billing or advertising. And he means business – each infraction will result in a $100 fine.

Who needs the Avengers or the Amazing Spiderman when your friendly, neighborhood celebrity seems just as equipped to save the day? The days of stars just sitting back on their nicely toned asses while being fed hand peeled grapes are over. Today’s celebs are all about rolling up their sleeves and making a difference in the lives of lesser beings everywhere. If your life hasn’t been saved by a star recently, then you must be doing something wrong. Here’s a look at the superhero antics of some of our favorite celebs.

Mila Kunis

Being friends with Mila Kunis has more than just sexy-time benefits. It could also save your life. Recently Mila helped save the life a man who had a seizure while working in her home. The man started choking and coughing up blood before collapsing to the ground. Even though the stunning “Black Swan” star has never played a nurse on-screen, she definitely picked up some Florence Nightingale skills somewhere. Mila turned the man’s head to the side so he wouldn’t choke and even made sure a wallet was stuffed in his mouth to prevent him swallowing his tongue. When the ambulance arrived, Mila’s work still wasn’t done – she offered to ride to the hospital with the unfortunate man. Thanks to Mila’s kind heart and quick thinking the worker made a full recovery.

Ryan Gosling

What can’t the gorgeous Gosling do? This tasty man-treat has donned his hero skills not once, but twice, on the streets of NYC. The first time he dove into the middle of street fight and broke it up, all while wearing a very non-heroish striped tank and clamdiggers. His next display of life-saving bravado was when he saved a woman from getting mowed down by a speeding cab. The pink-haired recipient of Ryan’s bravery tweeted her delight at being saved by the Hollywood hunk, “I literally, LITERALLY just got saved from a car by Ryan Gosling. Literally. That actually just happened.”

Kate Winslet

She might not have been able to save Jack in “Titanic” but Kate Winslet was able to save billionaire Richard Branson’s 90-year-old mother from a fire that burned Branson’s multi-million dollar Virgin Island estate to the ground. Kate was staying at the estate as a guest of the British mogul when the house was struck by lightning. After making sure her children were safely outside, Winslet rushed back into the burning house and carried the Branson matriarch outside to safety. Apparently Kate’s toned arms aren’t just for show – those muscles have super-hero strength!

T.I.

Rapper T.I. used his velvet tongue to literally talk a suicidal man off the ledge. After the rapper heard a news report about the man, who was threatening to fling himself off a 22-story building in downtown Atlanta, T.I. went to a radio station and recorded a video for the man. The video, which featured T.I. telling the man, “Nothing is that bad. Nothing in life is worth taking your life. I’m here to help you. Please come down to talk to me,” was apparently the extra dose of love this fellow needed to abort his plans to take the suicidal plunge. The man stepped away from the ledge, chatted briefly with the rap star, was promptly taken into protective custody and checked into a hospital to receive additional help that T.I. wasn’t quite qualified to give.

Vin Diesel

It must be all those fast car chases and spectacular explosions in Vin Diesel movies that spurred the star to run straight into a burning car to save the lives of three people who are now obligated to be the biggest Vin Diesel fans of all time. Diesel was riding his motorcycle through Hollywood when a car in front of him lost control, rolled and burst into flames (just like in the movies!). Without hesitation, the action star jumped off his bike, pulled two children from the backseat and instructed the driver to climb over the backseat and out to safety. Moments after all three were safely removed, the car was completely engulfed in flames. Nice reflexes, Vin!

Which Hollywood hottie do you hope saves you next time you’re in trouble?

Ten years after the release of “Men in Black II,” director Barry Sonnenfeld, producers Laurie MacDonald and Walter F. Parkes, and stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, created a third installment in the Men in Black franchise. The third installment, “Men in Black 3,” hit theaters over Memorial Day weekend. With an estimated $70 million in box office receipts, “Men in Black 3″ knocked claimed the number one box-office spot from “The Avengers,” leaving us wondering if “Men in Black 3″ is deserving of its number one slot or is it merely franchise fodder disguised as a box office smash.

Picking up (almost) where we left them at the end of “Men in Black II,” Agent J (Will Smith) and Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) are still part of a top-secret organization responsible for monitoring alien activities on Earth. This time around, an alien criminal known as Boris the Animal (Jemaine Clement) escapes from prison, travels back in time to 1969, prevents Agent K from apprehending him in the past, and alters the course of history. Agent J (Will Smith) is somehow immune to the effects of the timeline change so he travels back in time, teams up with a younger version of Agent K (Josh Brolin), and attempts to stop Boris, while consequently saving the world.

If this plot sounds like an echo of the first “Men in Black” film, it’s because it is. The script, while entertaining, doesn’t really introduce us to anything new: Agent J still has his swagger, Agent K is as surly as ever, and the protagonist is an exaggerated alien whose only motivation is to destroy Earth. It all feels so familiar. Neither Smith’s nor Jones’ character has evolved much from the first two films, leaving me with the feeling that the two stars were simply going through the motions.

Just when I was getting ready to write “Men in Black 3″ off as a complete failure, Brolin appeared on the screen as a younger Agent K and the movie suddenly takes a refreshing turn. Brolin is truly outstanding as a young Agent K – his mannerisms and speech pattern are so spot-on, it’s kind of eerie. However, what makes Brolin’s K stand out is his youthful optimism. Unlike Jones’ world-weary Agent K, Brolin’s version of K is far more enduring.

While I didn’t necessarily miss Frank the Pug and Jeebs, I did miss seeing Rip Torn as Zed, head of the MIB organization. His successor, Agent O (Emma Thompson) didn’t bring anything noteworthy to the film, which is a real shame because Thompson is a solid actor. There was a hint of O’s romantic history with Agent K, but the storyline wasn’t developed, leaving me wondering why the subplot was even introduced.

Unfortunately, an underdeveloped subplot is the least of this film’s problems. The plot is filled with holes and the time-travel elements are flimsy at best. Luckily, the film’s rapid pacing pushes the story forward quickly enough to keep anyone from pondering the film’s missteps. The special effects, makeup, and set designs are everything you would expect from the MIB cash cow: eye-catching, original, and immersive, and 3D effects even add to the movie.

“Men in Black 3″ is better than “Men in Black II” mainly because of Brolin’s stellar performance, but it still doesn’t live up to the original film. Overall, “Men in Black 3″ is an entertaining popcorn flick that contains some exciting action sequences and a few laughs.

Williams may not be a total dead ringer for Monroe in the 2011 biopic “My Week with Marilyn,” but she crawls into Monroe’s skin so successfully that you begin imagining her as the legend herself. Williams’ transformation worked for most of the critics; they lauded the film, and “Entertainment Weekly” movie critic Lisa Schwarzbaum called Williams “a wonder.”

Leonardo DiCaprio as J. Edgar Hoover

Leonardo DiCaprio’s turn as the troubled ex-president J. Edgar Hoover in the 2011 film “J. Edgar” made him the antithesis of the “pretty boy”—his jowls shook, his forehead wrinkled when he spoke, and his hairline was thinning. The film was a dud for the most part, but DiCaprio still made a convincing Hoover.

Reese Witherspoon as June Carter

Reese Witherspoon gave her all in 2005’s “Walk the Line” where she portrayed country star June Carter. While there are some instances where Witherspoon simply looks like herself with brunette hair, she does have the same forehead and heart-shaped face as Carter, making Witherspoon a great choice. The film was a success at the box office, and Carolyn Arends of “Christianity Today” wrote “Witherspoon delivers a full-bodied, note-perfect performance as sassy, no-nonsense June, and proves herself an able singer in the process.”

Amanda Seyfried as Linda Lovelace

“Deep Throat” star Linda Lovelace is now a new biopic, “Lovelace,” starring Amanda Seyfried. Who knows if Lovelace, who eventually railed against the porn industry, would approve of a biopic, but Seyfried channels Lovelace very well in the film’s promotional poster. Lindsay Lohan was originally supposed to play the role, and, to be fair, her face might fit the Lovelace mold better than Seyfried, but Seyfried is sure to give the depth the role needs.

Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor

Many have cried out against Lohan playing movie legend Elizabeth Taylor in the 2012 Lifetime movie, “Liz & Dick.” However, in terms of facial appearance alone, Lohan can possibly pull off Taylor’s signature smolder surprisingly well. Lohan can even draw from her past record of partying and law troubles to bring out the turmoil Taylor experienced with her own self-destructive habits.

Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg

The 2010 film “The Social Network” put many young stars on the map, including Jesse Eisenberg. Eisenberg, who played Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, is extremely convincing, bringing Zuckerberg’s college boy-meets-ruthless businessman quality to the role.  It also doesn’t hurt that they share similar facial features. Critics loved the film and Kam Williams of NewsBlaze called Eisenberg’s Zuckerberg “[t]he scariest villain since Psycho’s Norman Bates!”

Hilary Swank as Amelia Earhart

There is probably no one better to play Amelia Earhart than Hilary Swank. Both women have strong, boyish faces and slight bodies, making it easy for Swank to look exactly like Earhart in the 2009 biopic “Amelia.” In fact, she looks so much like Earhart that you would swear they’re related. The film didn’t do well with critics, but at least the problem wasn’t with Swank’s appearance.

Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II

Helen Mirren wowed audiences as Queen Elizabeth II in 2006’s “The Queen.” Unlike Swank as Earhart, Mirren doesn’t look completely like the monarch. However, she does look like a slightly younger, more glamorous version of Queen Elizabeth. Queen Elizabeth should be very pleased to be represented so well in film.

Jennifer Lopez as Selena

It was only a matter of time that a biopic about the life and sudden death of Tejano music star Selena would be made, and in 1997, Jennifer Lopez starred as the singer in “Selena.” Lopez was the correct choice for the role—not only can she sing, but she heavily favors Selena’s looks. Compare Selena’s picture on the cover of her cd “Amor Prohibido” and Lopez posing as Selena in the same manner for the film; they look like sisters. Fans of Selena love the film, and while the critics merely like “Selena,” one can’t deny how right Lopez is for the role.

Kristen Wiig took her final bow as a regular on “SNL” last Saturday night. Her seven years as a cast member delivered some of the most unforgettable characters in the show’s 40-year history. What better way to bid the regular access we had to Kristen’s comedic genius farewell than to pay tribute to the iconic characters and impressions we’re going to miss the most?

Target Lady

If Heaven does end up having a Target, then I sure hope Target Lady is working there. Kristen’s portrayal of the overly helpful and frighteningly enthusiastic checkout girl was an instant classic.  And who wouldn’t love the character that also made way for the immensely enjoyable portrayal of JT as Classic Peg?

Kathie Lee Gifford

The damnedest thing is that it’s almost impossible to tell the difference between Kristen’s over-the-top portrayal and Kathie Lee’s over-the-top Kathie Lee-ness. That woman is bona fide crazy – three sheets to the wind or not. Kristen’s ability to capture that crazy and channel it into side-splitting hilarity is a rare gift and one that I hope we get the chance to see again.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck

Kristen perfectly captures the vacant stare and empty beauty of the hysterical, conservative “View” conspiracy theorist. In fact, her funny take on the offensive TV personality is the only thing that makes Hasselbeck, in any form, palatable.

Dooneese Maharelle

Those tiny, tiny hands have haunted my dreams since Dooneese first introduced herself in song behind her pink and frothy sisters. Only a sick mind could have come up with this disturbing character and I thank God for giving us the madly comic mind of Kristen Wiig. And, since I find myself unable to turn away (no matter how hard I try) I must agree with good ol’ Lawrence Welk when he says, “I really think that girl should consider bangs.”

Suze Orman

I think Kristen is more Suze than even Suze Orman herself. This impression is so spot on, and I just can’t get enough of the completely unveiled references to Suze’s presumed sexual preferences that just roll off Kristen’s tongue without the slightest hesitation.

It seems like Lady Gaga spells controversy in every language. Since kicking off the Asian leg of her Born This Way Ball Tour, the mama monster has been at the center of massive protests thanks to strict morality standards and zealous religious fanatics in countries like the Philippines, Indonesia and South Korea.

From threats of violence to the denial of permits, Gaga’s bold costumes, lyrics and stage shows have been rankling everyone from Islamic extremists to Christian fundamentalists – and those groups never agree.

Last week, the AP reported the permit for a June 3 show in Jakarta was denied due to concerns that the mama monster’s “sexy clothes and dance moves would corrupt the youth.” The Islamic Defenders Front said that if the show went on it would bring “the faith of Satan to the country and thus would destroy the nation’s morals.”

They went on to threaten to send 30,000 members to the airport to keep Lady Gaga from even exiting her plane adding, “We are ready to be thrown in jail and be killed – we will do anything to stop [the show].”

In an effort to allow the concert and appease the rabid Islamic Defenders Front, Jakarta officials asked Gaga to tone down the show to better fit in with the country’s moral codes of conduct. But Gaga won’t compromise her craft, with her team reporting that she’d rather cancel a show than change it to suit local morals.

“We play the show as it is,” Gaga’s manager Troy Carter said. “It’s a very specific show, it’s a very specific audience.”

Little monsters who find themselves in danger of missing their chance to see their mama monster in action are disappointed and worried about the singer’s safety – showing their concern, support and outrage via Twitter. But they’re not Gaga’s only defenders. Indonesian activists have called the denial of the permit a sign of Indonesia’s “Talibanisation.”

Carter seems to agree, saying, “I don’t think this has anything to do with Gaga as much as it has to do with—you know, it’s just a big cultural and generational gap that is happening over there. You are dealing with a few different things: you are dealing with politics… with religion. It’s a little bit more complicated than her changing her outfits.”

While she wants to maintain the creative integrity of the show, Gaga is trying to throw some negotiations into the mix, offering to perform solo to protect her crew from any violence or other repercussions. The mama monster turned to Twitter, saying, “The Jakarta situation is 2-fold: Indonesian authorities demand I censor the show & religious extremists separately, are threatening violence. If the show does go on as scheduled, I will perform the BTWBall alone.”

Whether born that way or not, it seems that even though all her dates have been sold out, Asia isn’t quite ready to embrace the mama monster and her fierce devotion to artistic expression and, let’s face it, causing a bit of a ruckus.
