New York vs. Dallas: Nightlife

Soooo I know I have been neglectful but here's a nice thought I just had.

New York's nightlife couldn't compare to Dallas. The bars here are much, much smaller, and there's much, much more.

Anytime people ask me "what's a good bar in NYC to go to?" I always say, "what kind of guys do you like? Big, small, young, old, black, white?"

Cause that's how NYC is. The bars are very compartmentalized and spread out, depending on what "scene" or crowd you want to visit.

Dallas has such a huge gay bar scene because there are fewer bars that are bigger, so the crowds get meshed a lot more.

But the best part about this way is that you don't have as many "cliques" or "scenesters," because there are just too many people always going somewhere different for that kind of setting to take place.

No one knows you, with exception of certain bearish events like Sunday beer bust, and even then no one here cares who slept with who or who did what.

It's just a much more positive community I have found, and it's nice to be welcomed into the fold so readily.

There are definite things about Dallas that I may miss, but New York is now where I call home, and thanks to some wonderful people and some wonderful places, it has made the transition so much easier.

Sooo I went to the New Jersey shore over the weekend and had a great time. It's actually quite beautiful out there and my opinions of Jersey were slightly altered.

But can I say that the state is not what you would expect to find in the north?

Seriously, it is Oklahoma of New England.

First of all, it is the most racist state I have ever been to. The people are a bit rougher around the edges than in NY, and while they have the down home sensibilities and attitudes of my former home of the south, they also have the habit of voicing opinions that no one would dare beyond the Mason Dixon.

You see in the south people have white guilt. Sure they feel the same way as their forefathers did of other races and cultures, but they dare not voice such opinions in public.

New Jersey doesn't have that problem. I have heard some pretty crazy things in the past month every time I cross the Lincoln or GW. It's fairly offensive but also quite fascinating in its own regard.

Is it because they didn't witness the back of the bus mentality that people suffered from so much? They can spout their racist opinions freely because they didn't feel how awful it was?

I am not quite sure, but either way it is an eye opening experience for a southern liberal.

They also don't pump their own gas in Jersey (it's a law).

Weird.

Glee Creates Greatest TV Moment In History

If you don't watch Glee, you should be ashamed of yourself. It is probably the best new show in the last forever many of years. And last night's episode was no exception.

First of all, everyone knows I have a thing for the single ladies dance. I think it is magic. So imagine how amazing it was to see an entire High School Football team do it on the field.

Fucking awesome.

Jordan Wins Big Brother!!!!

After a long harrowing season, we FINALLY have a winner that I actually liked the entire game. Kevin got close to being the first gay winner of the series, but his betrayal to Jeff and loss to Jordan in the final round guaranteed his fate as the final jury member.

America's vote as the 7th juror was overwhelmingly in Jordan's favor, and even Natalie's BFF Jessie voted for her. The final count was 5 - 2, with bitter Kevin and Russell going for Natalie.

Jeff won America's vote for best player and walked with the $25,000 prize, plus all that money he won in the house.

So congrats to my girl Jordan, winning the $500,000 (and she needed it the most).

Big Brother 11 Starts With A Bang

Soooo Big Brother 11 started last week. And my first impressions were quickly changed after I have been watching the back end stuff online.

First of all I thought Russell was a COMPLETE douche the first time I saw him, and I kind of liked Jeff, Jordan, and Lydia, with Kevin (the gay) rounding it out for my top four.

The first couple of episodes didn't give me much except for the biggest douchenozzle in BB history, Jessie, came back to join the "athletes" click.

Then over the weekend Braden, the surfer boy, got into a huge fight calling Kevin a beaner and all kinds of racist trash talk.

These fucking people! Seriously.

And now, updates have shown Jeff calling Russell and Jessie fags, and using several homophobic remarks, which then created this response from Russell:

"Hey, why do you hate on gay people, one? Why do you hate on gay people? If you want to call me a bitch, call me a bitch, but that’s just kind of stupid."

This coming from the guy I just lumped as a muscle bound asshat.

But no, he fucking stood his ground. Bravo Russell the love muscle. Not sure how my favor towards you will last, but I definitely compliment you on being so cool about it, when Jeff is showing what a fucking dick he can be.

Like seriously? And Kevin/Lydia are cool with that? I understand they are working together, honestly like I said, the four of them were my favs from the start, but seriously, someone just say "look dude, we are with you, but the use of fag and faggot and shit isn't fucking cool."

Jordan still is my fav. Bitch is sweet and genuine, but she will fucking cut you!! Love her.

Dallas Eagle Closed Via TABC Harassment

The Dallas Eagle was raided by the TABC last night, which also happened to be the grand opening of their new building.

I was actually on my way to the club around midnight when I felt a little tired and just went home. Too bad I would have taken several pictures. Luckily Chaser Ricky got some, and I am still waiting on a few friends who might have gotten snap shots as well.

Apparently the TABC came in and harassed the bar about their licenses because the new building was 100 yards from the old one across the parking lot.

They came in wearing ninja masks and fortunately no one was "roughed up" like the incident in Fort Worth.

--UPDATE--

The licensing issue is currently being worked on, and The Eagle will hopefully reopen the new building ASAP.

Also the TABC denied wearing any ninja masks and blamed it on Dallas Police, but this finger pointing between the two agencies doesn't really hold up when we have pictures of cops in said masks raiding the bar.

The owners have issued a statement claiming the TABC and DPD were just doing their jobs and that it was a competitor who reigned them in on the Eagle's big opening day:

The problems at the Dallas Eagle on Friday night, July 10, 2009, were predicated on misinformation, and/or lack thereof, we received from the agent we had hired to expedite our licensing process. Regardless, the permits were not in order; and we take full responsibility for this. We would like to apologize to or customers, our employees, and the community at large. We would also like to extend our sincere apologies to the employees at TABC and the Dallas Police Department for the adverse press they have had to endure for simply doing their duty. Neither of these agencies, in any way harassed or threatened us. Their behavior throughout was polite and organized. They were acting on a compliant, which by law, they are required to do. Sadly, we were informed these calls were placed by a competitor. The calls were placed through Austin (for TABC) and through the District Attorney’s office here (for DPD) indicating someone with well placed connections. Once again, this was a licensing error on our part, nothing more.

On a broader note, it is enough that our community has to deal with discrimination on a daily basis without having to worry about elements within our own community. This, to our minds, is the real story here.

We thank all of you for your love and support.

We are open for business at the old location until ALL appropriate documentation is in hand.

Yet again progressive society is pushed back via the act of some ignorant ass Texas. This time a gay couple was harassed by security at a Chico's Tacos for doing "gay stuff."

We went, sat down to eat our food and security guards came and said that if they kept doing that, they were going to throw us all out of the restaurant."

Carlos said he then asked them why? Their response, according to Carlos: "They said 'we didn't allow that gay stuff to go on here.

Appparently the police chief also thought that being gay was "against the law" (guess he doesn't know too much about that old Supreme Court thing that got rid of discriminatory sodomy laws back in 2003).

"It was against the law for two males and two females to kiss in public, that they could cite us for homosexual activity."
