Anthropologie has recently started doing “pre-orders” on select items; the Amalia Tulle skirt that I am wearing below being one such item. It actually came into stock earlier than expected, but I was pretty surprised when I opened the package to find the poofiest of all poofy skirts alive.

It looks so sweet and well-mannered on the website, after all:

But in real life, the skirt fits more like this:

And I must admit, I was slightly horrified when I first put it on because it was so unexpectedly…big. The layers of tulle on this thing are endless. Endless! This skirt has a poof-factor that goes above and beyond what the Minaj-i-Gaga scale can even register. The Minaj-i-Gaga scale is like the Richter scale, only for overly-dramatic and out-of-control poofy skirts that I totally didn’t just make-up right now as I am typing this out.

So anyway, the skirt is poofy. But I kind of like it! Actually, I really like it. It reminds me just enough of the mid-length, oversized floral skirts from Dior S/S2013:

And like most women, I will always secretly be a sucker for overly-voluminous, poofy skirts.  This skirt runs pretty true to size if not a little large–but consider purchasing it in your normal size if you will be tucking bulky sweaters into it this winter.

(I snapped these pics last week during a day of thick smoke and thunderstorms, so I apologize that they turned out a little dark and contrasty. I tried to get the color of the skirt as true as possible in my edits–swish, swish.)

I received a fun surprise from Charm & Chain a little while ago–a statement-making rose gold cuff by Jules Smith. I will always be a sucker for rose gold (so whoever picked it out, job well done!) and it also fits and stays secure on my wrist. Like many areas in Colorado, the Black Forest is also home to LOTS (and lots!) of pets, equine, and wildlife that also now need shelter and in some cases, veterinary care for injuries. Please visit hsppr.org if you wish to donate directly, or check facebook.com/humanesocietypikespeakregion for up-to-the-minute updates and information on other ways to help all the furry friends impacted by this fire.

And if you would like a more specific way to donate or volunteer on a more local level, please visit the Colorado Springs Gazette for an extensive list on ways to help. They also reported on the local news tonight that there is  a need for mental health professionals to volunteer their time to help those coping with loss from the fire; if you happen to be someone with those credentials please contact the Red Cross or some of the local evacuation centers for more information on how to help. The Colorado Springs Gazette has a great list of all of those facilities (along with contact information) as well.

Last but not least, below are three photos we snapped Tuesday only hours after the fire first broke out. In the first photo, we are about 25 miles away from the fire. In the second, we are about 30 miles away from the fire. And in the last, we are about 35 miles away (and roughly two miles out from where I live). They are sobering visuals as to just how big this fire is:
