Stanley Cup Season is Here!

The Stanley Cup finals are well underway, and even though my favorite Dallas Stars aren't in the playoffs this year, I'm closely following the league and even watching a few games.

Dallas has replaced their general manager, so hopefully they'll have a turn around soon and make the playoffs next year.

So who is your pick to win the Stanley Cup this year?

Musicians take their equipment seriously, because that is something that needs to work as it should for your music to sound like you want it to sound. And with instruments, just like anything else with moving parts, sometimes they go bad or get broken.

This sounds like a crazy topic, but curiosity is getting the best of me on this question: "Does a shelf help create more space than stacking?"

I believe the answer is yes. Yes, it is true, simply stacking items on each other can cram more in. But it's my opinion, strictly non-scientific of course, that a shelf will help give more space when things won't stack. How many times, realistically, do things we own easy stack on each other?

I think the best option, whether in a closet or pantry or other place, is a shelf.

Dallas Stars out of the playoffs

It's a sad time in Dallas, as once again the Dallas Stars failed to make the post season. Now, with the general manager replaced, they are hoping going in a new direction will do the trick.

The Stars lost their final game but it really didn't matter. Detroit's win guaranteed them the spot in the playoffs and the Stars were out in the middle of their second period.

Maybe next year it will be better.

The Company Men movie review

You'll recognize a lot of faces in The Company Men. Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones, Chris Cooper, Craig T Nelson, and Kevin Costner, just to name a few. The sad part is you'll also recognize many of the characters in the people in your own life, even the unfortunate Bobby Walker, played by Ben Affleck.

Bobby Walker lives in an upscale Boston neighborhood and has everything most people ever want. A beautiful house, a luxury sports car, a wife, and a son. What he doesn't have, after he is introduced to corporate downsizing, is a job to pay for all those accommodations any longer.

The movie's pace is fast enough to keep it interesting, but to me it never gave the same sensation as Wall Street or Boiler Room. But that was not the idea, the idea was to show how things go from not only the perspective of the person laid off, but the corporation.

It's a good rental and most people should not feel they gave their money away in paying to watch it.

Annie Lou and Irish met me at the sub courthouse today to officially register Lobo Sisters with the county.

It's been several years since I've had to do an assumed name certificate, and as expected the price went up a crazy amount. The last one, about 10 years ago, cost me $11 for a ten year registration. The one today- $20. Nearly a 100% increase in the last 10 years.

Has my income doubled since 2003? Not even close.

On the plus side, the form was short, to the point, and easy to fill out. Also, the clerks that work at this particular courthouse are gracious, polite, and good at their jobs.

When you’re a musician or booking DJ shows, you need equipment that will be there when you need it, provide quality, and give the show you what to happen. The Strangers (2008)

I couldn't wait to see The Strangers (starring Liv Tyler) after seeing the previews. So as soon as it went on sale at the video store, I grabbed the DVD and headed home. That night, as usual, I got my bowl of Chex Mix (bold party blend), turned out the lights, and started it.

While in many ways it was quite frightening, overall to me the movie was boring. The suspense was broken up too much by boring dialog, and while it helped set the mood of the characters, I believe it was just too much. It was like watching a Kubrick film without any interesting characters. If the characters are interesting, you can tolerate a little too much off-topic dialog because its interesting to see how their minds spin. But when its just two boring, regular people, it turns out to just be regular, and boring.

While I'm all for a plotless braindead zombie massacre, when it comes to a movie about real people, events, and situations, I want to know who did it, why, and what happened to the characters afterwards. This movie set out with obviously no intent on sharing such information, instead it was supposed to make you realize that sometimes bad things just happen and there is not really a "why" and you may never know who did it. But unlike something interesting, such as the Zodiac killer, this have-no-idea plot really tanked with me. I was left utterly disappointed and with questions I feel they should have answered-

What happened to the woman afterwards?
Did they have any suspects?
Were there other crimes that match the M.O.?

If you want to get spooked by something other than monsters and goblins, then this might be a good movie to watch while cuddled up under a blanket with your partner. But if you are looking for something more, it ain't here.

Baltimore Ravens win the Superbowl

I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan, but even though I didn't have an interest in either team playing in the Superbowl for 2013, I tend to pull for the underdog. With roughly four out of five sports analysts giving the game to San Francisco, I jumped at the chance to cheer for the Baltimore Ravens.

What I never expected was the slaughter that took place, at least until the lights went out. Baltimore came out strong and San Francisco was never able to get their game to the level to which they usually play. Until the power outage.

The end had some questionable calls that might have helped nudge Baltimore to a win, but had it not been for the power outage that lasted half an hour, San Francisco would have just been beaten worse than they already were.

The Superbowl is only a few more days away, and it's going to be a great matchup. According to the countdown clock at nhl.com, there's 11 days, 23 hours, 2 minutes, and 7 seconds until kickoff.

Baltimore has been putting on a top game throughout the playoffs, and San Francisco is consistent in executing their game plan.

The game is February 3rd at 6:30 PM Eastern time.
