Over the holidays I completed my latest portrait commission. My client found an old photo for me to use of her father in law who had passed away some years ago. The painting was to be a surprise for her husband's birthday. Although I never knew him, I felt very connected to the sincere and peaceful nature of the photo. Hopefully his spirit came through in the painting.

I just started a new blog called the Old Fashioned Artist. I'm doing a lot of cocktail and bar scene paintings now so I thought it would be nice to have a page dedicated to that. New Studio

My new studio is all set up and I love it! I've got a lot of space, a new desk, my trusty easel and an old, beat up folding chair, what could be better. The extra space makes such a difference, I can finally step back and look at my paintings without tripping over supplies. I look forward to creating paintings here for many years to come.

My wife and I recently moved into a new home so the last couple of months have been non-stop craziness. This is the first weekend that we can finally sit back and enjoy all of the hard work. So in honor of the new house and new art studio I thought I'd post this little painting and say cheers! Lots more paintings to come including brand new cocktail paintings.

I just got back from a great trip to Sedona, Arizona. The weather was beautiful and the red rock landscape was extremely inspiring. I was lucky enough to go out and do some plein air painting at Slide Rock State Park. Everyone else at the park was busy splashing around in the river so I felt like I had the whole place to myself.

Over the last few years I've become what you might call a cocktail enthusiast. I buy the specialty cocktail books, have amazing drinks at speakeasy style bars in LA and NY, and then recreate these drinks for friends and family.

Naturally this led me to my latest series of paintings depicting the classic drinks and culture surrounding them. I can't think of a better way to share this old world revival than with classically painted oil paintings, using traditional materials.
